Unfortunately, you can't actually talk to a person, but their automated system confirmed that there were no inspection appointments, just walk in. I went to the Delmar location out of convenience and I was there for a full hour. It was an absolute shitshow! Been coming here for years - most recently this week. Staff seems to fluctuate in speed and professionalism but I've never had a horrible or unacceptable experience. As a "local", I value this business and also patron local mechanics when and if needed. I'm happy this Valvoline is here and would recommend it to anyone needing a fast (sometimes) oil change or inspection. Personally, I'm keeping the upsell services to the dealer or more experienced mechanics. Pro Tip(s): earlier the better, there are always coupons online and it's ok to say no to the radiator, break fluid, differential up sells. read more

I took my car to Valvoline in Delmar for a state inspection. Without asking, they removed my air filters, claimed they were dirty, and recommended replacing them with their filters. I declined, and they didn't push further. However, a few days later, I discovered that one of the four bolts securing the air filter cabin was missing. I had to spend $14 on a set of new bolts to replace the missing one, even though the total cost of the inspection was only $21. I'm very disappointed and will never use their services again. read more

Buyer Beware I am posting about the Valvoline store on Delaware Ave. Although the people working there are very nice, if you need air conditioning checked in your vehicle, make sure to ask what the cost will be and if a refund is available if their process doesn't work. It was 170 dollars to replace the freon liquid which worked for about two days and then stopped performing. When I took the vehicle to the manufacturer's dealership, they discovered a leaking hose and they couldn't understand how this went unnoticed at Valvoline. Upon returning to Valvoline to request a refund I was told that the work was not guaranteed. Had I known this before I would have refused the service and gone to the dealership directly. As it turned out, I did call the headquarters in Kentucky and they agreed that I should have been told about the charge and lack of guarantee, with no refund, before the service was given. The customer representative agreed I should have been told and the 170 dollars was returned to me by check within a week. But who needs the hassle. Just ask before they act on their own should you happen to go there. The fact is no one wants to pay for a service that was not successful, and for which a refund should have been provided at the shop level. read more

Oil change was overdue, mechanic backed up 3 weeks so I came for quick oil change period. They got it just right, no sales pitch for other stuff. courteous & quick. Even allowed a coupon on my phone which died just as it was being scanned. One caveat this facility doesn't have "pit service" so you have let a service man drive your vehicle in & pay in the office. read more

Came in for an oil change and tire rotation and the app said the wait was 0 minutes. When I arrived, I waited in my car for 35 minutes. After pulling into the garage, the whole process took over an hour just for the oil change. The tire rotation took an additional 40 minutes as they needed to jack the car up by hand. Overall, the business is incredibly slow and I would not recommend unless you like to spend your day at a small car garage. read more

While I'm not a fan that they always try to add on additional sales. As In, air filters, flushing or your radiator ect. What I am a fan of is how quick they get you in and out. I've never had to , or leave and come back a different day. They are organized, attentive and very professional. If you want to get on and out fast, go to Valvoline. I like the staff and find them to be trustworthy over other auto mantenence shops. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. read more

Something similar has happened here before so I should have learned the first time. Had a headlight out and was close to needing an oil change so I went in but asked first if they could do the headlight and if so I'd also get the oil change. Yes, no problem he said. When asked if I wanted Max Life Full Synthetic I said no, just the regular one. By the time I left, they had determined that they just couldn't get to the headlight bulb so they gave up, and they also filled it up with full synthetic even though the "regular" is supposed to be 1/2 synthetic and 1/2 regular oil. More expensive of course. Last time they also broke a piece of the molding on the car but still couldn't change the tail light so I guess it was better this time. I protested the upcharge for synthetic briefly but then just paid and left. I don't usually leave bad reviews but they're particularly bad and maybe a bit dishonest. This place is pushing really hard to make you buy extra service such as air filters and some kind of fluits which cost lots of money. I insisted that I only need oil change and tire rotation, guess what service guy said: " you did not buy any extra service last time as well". Firmly say NO to any extras. read more

I was in town this week visiting family and way overdue for an oil change. These guys were great. Got me in right away, showed me air filter rather than just saying it needed to be changed out. They reviewed options for different oils but didn't pressure me to get the most expensive one. I was out of there within 45 minutes. I would definitely go again. read more

If you stick to just getting an oil change you'll be fine. Generally it's pretty quick. But they push other services all the time. Recently they tried to get me to replace a cabin filter I had replaced myself only 3 months ago. Do not say yes to any additional services unless you know for sure it's actually needed! read more

So I'm very annoyed this morning I wasted coming to Valvoline. All I wanted was a simple oil change and my oil changed. I called before I showed up and asked if these services were available yes was the answer. A guy come out asked what services I wanted I told him he basically wasn't listening to what I was saying when I was trying to explain which headlight he told me to pull in. He was annoyed with me because I didn't pull in starlight WELL SORRY. Then I went into seating area with my keys oops that even annoyed him. So sitting there I feel very uncomfortable due to our initial interaction. Then the same guy asked what oil I want so say conventional it's what I get all the time, he explains I should get the higher mileage one because I just hit 100,000 miles ok thanks for the advice but I will stick to conventional. Then he says I'm 2000 miles over I explains the last place I went to did not reset my odometer. He looks at me like I'm lying ‍. Leaves then comes back to tell me about my filter NO I don't want a filter I just want an oil change and headlight replaced that's all. Then he says I need it because he's sure other places I brought my car must've mentioned it to me.. Um why is that his business? Then the at the end of my 1hrs wait I'm told he cannot change my headlight due to bumper needing to be replaced‍. This was my main reason for coming her and wasting this hour I couldn't went to Monro who do this and are very nice. But NO!! I'm so never ever coming here again . My Monday monrning is so ruined by this. read more

I have never been a fan of these "stop and go" instant oil change service centers. But, this one in Delmar is an exception. I recently noticed my inspection sticker was well over due by 30 days. I discovered it by just passing a road block for inspection stickers. Luckily, they were just setting up. I was extremely hesitant about going to Valvoline as my experience with a competitor was not favorable. I was greeted at my car by a tech named Roger. I explained my situation to him and he took my car in immediately for inspection. My car was inspected within ten minutes. The tech, Roger, was extremely friendly, courteous and professional. He changed my negative review of instant oil change service centers to a positive experience. I will continue to service my Kia Soul at Valvoline. read more

Let me start my saying, I've been going to them since I moved to Albany three years ago and they are OKAY for oil changes. But DO NOT attempt to get a NY state inspection here, this was a mistake. For the first time i have a nice new car and I knew going in there wasn't anything wrong with it. They failed my inspection because they said i needed a serpentine belt. That is Valvoline's default up-sale item. No matter what car I've ever brought into them for an oil change, regardless of model or year i've been told I need a new serpentine belt. I've even fallen for it (twice), because why not! But to fail me over it is outright ridiculous. That wasn't the only reason they listed as failing, the allegedly needed repairs would have cost over $300. After getting that "estimate" I left and took it down the street, they passed me with flying colors. Told me absolutely nothing was wrong at with my car, I even asked them specifically to look at my serpentine belt (after they inspected it) and they told me it was fine and it would probably be a few more years before it needed to be replaced. I feel scammed. If you need an oil chance, fine, but do not waste your money on them for anything else. Also maybe it's an Albany thing, but they actually make you get out of your car for an oil change, in Syracuse they do the whole thing with you in the car, just thought that was strange. read more

I came for an oil change and tire rotation. The services were performed well enough, but the customer service was not good. The attendant came car side promptly but had a brusque, unfriendly manner. He didn't let me know the process, ask me what kind of oil I wanted, or invite me into the waiting area. The biggest issue is that I came in with 4 hubcaps, and when I returned home, I had only 3! I called to let them know about the issue and see what could be done. The man on the phone was nice but not helpful and never followed up with me like he said I would. I had to pointedly ask if there was any kind of customer service inquiry I could put in, otherwise he would've just ended the conversation. He said something during the conversation to make it seem like hubcaps are left off all the time during their service. And in fact, a day later I realized another one of mine was not put back in place correctly. Sorry to say, but I'll be retuning to Jiffy Lube for my next service! read more

Worst place I've ever been to for an oil change. They are pushy and liars. I went recently for an oil change and Roger informed me that I was 6,000 miles overdue. He tried to tell me that because of this my oil was sludgy and was going to cause engine problems if I didn't get an engine flush (which costs an additional $69.99) right away. He also told me I need a new air filter. I then explained I already purchased a new air filter, which is at home, and that I'd be putting that in later. He gave me an attitude and started grilling me asking what type of air filter I purchased. He made me feel like shit for choosing not to get the engine flush. When I went back to my car, they forgot to take out the old sticker and I noticed that he flat out lied...I was not 6,000 miles overdue, I was only 2,000 miles overdue. And technically I wasn't overdue at all because my manufacturer recommends an oil change every 5,000 for my vehicle, not 3,000. My partner went the following week for an oil change and dealt with Roger again who tried to pull the same stunt, telling him that he was 4,000 miles overdue and that he needed an engine flush. Luckily, my partner had checked the sticker before he went in and knew that was a lie, so he called him out on it. Our mechanic said we do not need an engine flush. Needless to say, we will not be going back there ever again. Don't waste your time or money...the little bit of time you save going to Valvoline for a quick oil change is not worth the hassle. read more

Terrible service. Like the others I chose valvoline due to a coupon. Valvoline changed the oil and tried to up sell 4 maintenance services that were not necessary and tried to get me to buy an air filter for 7 times higher than I can buy it online. Then the technician came back in and said they couldn't do the inspection. He said they couldn't get the tires off and that whoever tightened them last tightened them too much. When I told him that valvoline (same store) was the last place to do anything to the tires the story changed to a new reason why the lug nuts wouldn't come off. Now it was because the owner of the car (family member) never rotated the tires and they rusted on. Nice switch! Anyway long story short I took the car home, got the jack out of the storage compartment and proceeded to remove all of the lug nuts without much trouble at all. I will never use valvoline for another service!!!!! Extremely disappointed. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. DO NOT GO HERE! My fiance went here for an oil change. Before we left I decided to pop the hood and make sure that in fact the oil change was done. I no sooner lifted the hood and one of the mechanics, if you even call him that immediately came out to the car to question about whether there was a problem. Needless to say after checking the oil I noticed the oil was very dark brown, not the light golden color you'd expect after a vehicle is properly drained of its oil and new oil is put in. I went in to question them on whether the oil was even changed, because I did not believe they changed it. The employee that confronted me in the parking lot got extremely nervous and threatening. He stated there were several cameras in the building and threatened to call the cops. Because I asked a question you threaten to call the cops on your customers? A phone call to the manager yielded similar results. All the employees we dealt with including the manager were rude and not helpful at all. Like many other places this place is full of scam artists and people who tell their customers they completed a service that has been payed for which is either not done right or not done at all. A phone call to the better business bureau is in order. This is the first review I have ever written, but was worth warning people to avoid this place! read more
