I almost never take any of my time to write reviews on Yelp, but I couldn't resist giving a 5 star review to Van Bakery in Glendale. Since the first time I tried their cheese rolls and khachapouri I was absolutely stunned by how good it tasted. I have been visiting this Bakery at least once a week since then. Something else I wanted to mention is that their croissant sandwiches are like no other. The cheese melts so nicely with everything and the lightweight croissant is so soft and easy to bite that it creates a craving like you've never had!!! The place is absolutely clean you won't see piece of dust or trash anywhere around you and they have recently put some tables outside so you can have a nice desert with anyone you'd like. One last thing, the service is so good because every time I'm welcomed with a smile and patience as I decide on my order. Amazing customer service is what I'm trying to say... Yes they have delicious pastries and everything on their catering menu tastes amazing... But there is absolutely no costumer service at all! The lady behind the counter is rude and talks down to costumers as if it's our responsibility to buy from them and also from people they cooperate with! We also hired a waitress for the morning of our wedding, the lady was extremely rude, ordered everyone around and at the end made a big deal about wanting to get paid for her services when we already had paid for it all when we put in our order! She started yelling and slammed the door on her way out! Worst service ever! Horrible and Embarrassing! read more

if you need a good sponge to clean your house, i have the perfect one for you. it's called the coffee roll at van bakery. yep, confused? so was i. i thought i bought a slice of cake, but instead, i must have bought a piece of sponge. it was so dry when i ate it that it sucked up all the moisture from my tongue as soon as it touched it. but you see, like a true foodie, i gave it many tries. one bite, two bites, three...almost gone and it STILL tasted like styrofoam with greasy frosting. i couldn't quite persist anymore and did the one thing chinese folks don't like to do...throw away food. i threw that shit away. was that the only craptastic baked good i had there? oh no, i also bought cheese and philly cream cheese rolls. both had super flaky shells made from phyllo dough i suspect. mmm, a good start. but unbeknownst to me, there must be a cheese AND philly cream cheese shortage in this world because the thinnest of thinnest layers of filling were in these rolls and 90% of what you ate was the crust. all three items came out to be $3. not bad at all right...until i realize that i threw most of it away. read more

Well, we ordered a "mad hatter" type of cake for our friend's birthday. The person just kind of said "sure, no problem" and pretty much blew us off. The bakery was recommended to us by a friend, so we trusted them. What we got was disgusting. Seriously. They took a butter cream cake and basically airbrushed a tie-dye type of pattern on it. We asked for a cake with fondant, and a specific cake design. We got a standard round buttercream cake with a drug-induced airbrush pattern. Do not trust them to do what you asked of them. read more

I can't say I've tried many things here, but I can't say enough about how AMAZING the "Mother-In-Law" cake tastes ("Zokanch" in Armenian). It's moist, has a 4-5 different layers with poppy seeds in one, walnuts in another and has delicious cream in between the layers. You will not be disappointed with this "sheet" cake. They also have a pretty extensive catering menu that I haven't tried. Looking forward to trying their "Honey Cake" next time. read more

Stopped in for dessert last night. Patient staff, tasty choices. They had one dish in a little cup that tasted like apple pie with cream, it was so good. Kids had a meringue cookie, a cream bar, a strawberry cream cup, and a chocolate cake round. They seem to have more cookies than anything else. My son was sad that they didn't have cheesecake lol. This bakery is a joke, numerous times I've bought Gata from the bakery but recently the pastry was undercooked. I addressed my concerns with the store manager but she was extremely rude and disregarded my concern. I work at a nearby school so i was looking for cupcakes or a cake for our valentines day party. The person was sooooo rude and disgusting with her attitude that i couldnt wait to write this yelp. Because i am an adminstrator, i definitely told my staff not to come here. I will never know if the pastries are good because I just got hit with nastiest attitude in glendale. One of my co-workers brought pastries from this bakery into the office and I was in love!!!! I had to go get some for my family. I looked it up and found the address. I finally had the chance to go today and I was greeted by the rudest customer service individual ever. She looked angry that she had customers. She was not helpful, huff and puffed as I looked for the pastries, she didn't have any social skills at all. I actually felt a bit bad for her because only a hard life can make a person as pretty as her so angry and bitter. It wasn't until I left when I realized that the reason this bakery had such a low rating was because of her. The pastry was delicious but that woman left a really bad taste in my mouth. A company is only as good as its people. I probably won't return but I do hope she finds something that brings her happiness. read more

It is unfortunate to read any negative comments about this place, almost sounds they had some personal issues to resolve...it is one of my absolute favorite bakeries in the Glendale ,that was called number one place in the USA for number of bakeries ! More than 50 of them in the small town of Glendale! Every bakery in town is known for their own best pastry and owners take pride in what they do and make sure they do it well since they face tremendous amount of competition. Van bakeries specialty is their " ghourabia" cookies , that are great with coffee or tea. They make the very best ones in town! And those are a must try! But my new favorite is Hasmiks ( the owners) new invention -which she calls non-fryed " ponchik" ( Armenian donuts) and those are to dye for! She baked them instead of frying and they are filled with custard or Nutella and are Unbelivable! I love them as a breakfast pasty , since they are so good to eat them warm, and needless to mention that are more figure friendly than the fried ones! For my cousins wedding they have ordered catering for brides home ( before the wedding ceremony) from Van bakery and to they were all very delicious and made and played with outmost care . Great selection of finger foods, light appetizers, dips , salads, mini Armenian pizzas...and don't want to forget about their tasty cupcakes! ...Van is great, and you just need to try to find it out for yourself ! read more

Ordered a cake from them, came home cut it found hair in it. We took it back the lady without apologizing or anything takes the cake in the back (i took the cake with the hair in it) and says oh we just figured it was not hair it was a piece of thread. Great sweet cheese pastry! OMG it was delicious. Stumbled in here when killing time in Glendale today and looking for coffee and was pleasantly surprised. I believe it's Armenian owned and thus Armenian style pastries which I'm unfamiliar with and everything looked delicious. Just left the bakery and couldn't wait to try the different assortments of pastries. This place is 10 stars. Not only were the pastries melting in your mouth, the owner Jasmine was personable and took time to explain each of the pastries. The one she recommended were simply the best I ever had. If It wasn't for my appointment at Glam for my Mani/Pedi I would never know about this place. Jasmine also owns Glam next door. Just want to say Van Bakery there are 3 that I know of, North Hollywood, Los Angeles and the best of them all GLENDALE!!!! I am from Europe and I love ECLAIR but searched for years something to at least get close to the taste back home... without success! In Glendale this lady Jasmin is her name and her other workers (by the way as sweet as their sweets)... well... there I am back home for a minute!!! It smells the same like in a bakery back home and the sweets... Amazing! but the Eclairs... the Eclairs, I am just the kid I used to be 20 years ago and I go and buy at least 20 some at the time, and by the time I leave the bakery I have already eaten 4 or 5 of them!!!! The best eclairs I have eaten in California yet!!!! You need to go trust me! They are super fresh and again no possible way to describe them just, you'll feel like home again!!! Ohh God where do I start. So I came here for my wedding catering because my sister did her catering qith them and we were happy with it. Now when i came to order my catering the lady insisted that i get the 50 people catering because the food wont be enough. I told her that it will be enough and i want the 40 pwople plates. She did not like it when i said ill get the 40 people order. I pay the deposit and everything. Now we are on the day of my wedding i get a call from my sister in law saying that the food is the 30 people count. We ran out of food so quickly and some people did not even eat. Now around 4 o'clock i get a call from their driver saying that they have my order but cannot find my house. I told them that it was delivered in the morning and the driver states that it was the wrong order. After hanging up i figured that they mixed up the orders. Today, i go in to tell them what happened and the lady starts giving me an attitude stating that their 40 people catering is a 30 piece count. I tell her that we had the same order for my sister and it was 40 of each, she insists that i am wrong and that they did not mix up the orders. She said the event is over and that she cannot do anything about it now. Very disappointed and will never come here again.. heads up everyone, if you are planning tp do your catering with them. Cant trust these people. read more
