    Baked goods in the evening
    Bianka G.

Made in just in time before closing on a Friday rainy evening. They still had a nice amount of baked goods/pastries left and cakes and bread in general. A couple of favorites were already gone like the cookie croissant but today I had my sights set on the Poppy seed streusel danish. It was soft, buttery, and just perfect with that streusel crumbly topping. I was excited to see they sell Princess cakes. I seldom see them and forget how good they are. They also have some coffee drinks and sandwiches. This place is a true gem.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The quiche was huge and delicious. Enough to split! I asked for a side of mixed greens - just greens - no dressing or anything (only 50 cents). Would definitely come back. Their array of pastries and breads is huge.

This bakery is sooo goood!! They have so many desserts to choose from! I grabbed a few desserts to share with my family. Anything you pick from here is good! Shop was clean and the staff were friendly and very helpful! Can't wait to go back and try their coffee!

A few years ago, I was obsessed with Swedish Princess Cake but couldn't locate a place that sold it. The obsession recently resurfaced, and a Yelp search led me here. Berolina Bakery is a family-owned business that has been serving the community since 1991. It's very much a traditional European style bakery serving freshly baked Artisan breads, Danishes, croissants, traditional European cakes, pastries, & cookies. They also offer breakfast staples, sandwiches, salads, & soup. They only allow 6 customers in at a time. However, there are a few tables inside and outside seating as well, so you can enjoy your food & beverage. I arrived just as they opened, so the display case was not completely full. I was disappointed that I did not see any slices of the coveted Princess Cake. The nice lady behind the counter told me it wasn't available yet. Instead, I got a Rum Baba and a Chocolate Kouign-Amann for a friend. The Rum Baba had a soft, dense rum cake filling. It was wrapped in marzipan and both ends were dipped in chocolate. The filling had a nice flavor. The marzipan was soft and tasty with a hint of almond flavoring. It was a delightful treat. My friend enjoyed the Chocolate Kouign-Amann. Next time I'm in the area I'll stop in a try a few pastries and, hopefully, the Princess Cake. *Small parking lot & street parking. *Cashless

Such a cute spot. Loved their almond pastries and their coffee was good, a little too much foam for a latte but still tasting good. Also loved their apple muffin. Service was good too. Will definitely be back again soon!

Somebody recently recommended Berolina Bakery to me while I was in the neighborhood. I was looking for a dark bread that was a bit lighter than what you mostly find. They have a wonderful selection of bread and the bakery in general smells great. The service was very attentive and thorough, with all my questions expertly answered. I have not tried the bread yet, but was delighted to find some gorgeous, green Princess cakes in the case that were ideal for spring. These cakes are quite difficult to find. I took a slice to go. It tasted exactly like the similar cakes I had in Europe. The cake was moist and the cream and berry preserves were excellent taste and texture. It was not cloyingly sweet. I would like to return to try the bread.

Dropped by before heading over to the Descanso gardens. It a simple bakery with a small storefront with loads of different baked goods. There were a couple seats outside for you to sit and enjoy the baked items. Danishes - We got the Custard, Apricot and strawberry cheese danishes and I had mixed feelings about them. The pastries components were okay, but some felt more fresh than others. The fillings were pretty good, but the icing sugar distributions were not equal and, at times over whelming. For example, the apricot one I had was overpowered by sweetness because it was covered in sugar. Would recommend, but really pick specific danishes that have your sugar to danish ratio. Kouignamann - I love Kouignamanns so this was great! You get crispiness of individual layers of pastries and then the crunch from the solidified sugar. Would recommend.

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place. It's only a few minutes from our house and finally had time to give it a try a couple days ago. There was a line to get in so thought, "Oh this place must be pretty good." The bakery only allows 6 shoppers at a time so it's kind of tight inside. There are a few workers there to help. The one that was helping me wasn't the friendliest person. I was trying to ask questions and the response was very "irritated and almost rude" attitude. So this kind of turned me away from asking more questions already. I got the morning bun, kouign amann, slices of the princess cake and berry tart. The princess cake wasn't "amazing" like a lot of the reviews stated. It was a little flavorless and didn't taste like anything special. The berry tart barely had any filling and the crust was pretty thick. My daughter devoured all the sugary fruit so guess that was a success. The morning bun was dry with a slight cinnamon taste. Not worth it. The kouign amann was pretty decent. My family loves these and to find a bakery that has them is a joy. Think the kouign amanns were the highlight for us at this bakery.

We stumbled upon this place on a whim! We were trying to get to a different cafe but do to heavy construction it was difficult to get in, so we pulled into this shop for a quick bite to eat. It was amazing seeing all the fresh baked bread upon entry. The workers were kind, and patient as we decided our order. The food was phenomenal! We had a sandwich, a breakfast panini, cheese danish and decided to try the princess cake upon seeing it was popular. Wow! Some of the best pastries I've had! This seems like a local spot for many folk as many people were coming in and picking up bread and pastries for their families. Will gladly be back when in the area!

I can't believe I've lived in the area for this long and have only tried Berolina Bakery for the first time recently! I came with my grandparents and we loved the sandwiches. The price is unbeatable given the insane cost of going out to eat these days. About $8-10 per sandwich. We enjoyed the pastrami panini, cold turkey sandwich, and brie panini. Highly recommend the rosemary bread for the paninis. Would love if they made a vegan tofu or chickpea sandwich! We sat outside under the shade. Fortunately found a good parking spot but it got crowded later on a weekday around 2 pm. My only complaint is that the food took a while to come out, maybe 25-30 min. Glad to see that they had a steady stream of customers though.

I went to order online and realized there is the common convenience fee tacked on. I decided to order the old fashioned way, go there in person. Then I can browse the store while I wait. It has the usual stuff you'd expect to find in mini markets. But there are hidden gems in the dusty corners like a vintage bottle of Trader Vic's Mai Tai cocktail mix. I didn't check the price but I'm wishing it still had the price tag from 1975 on it. Made me think of the Werewolf of London drinking a Pina Colada and his hair was perfect. Another good find was a dusty bottle of Crème de Menthe. It made me want to look up the recipe for a Grasshopper. I don't know if these old mixer's are for sale or just museum pieces. The sandwiches look pretty good, I'll have to try one another time. Overall the veggie pizza was pretty good, but a bit heavy on the veggies. I generally like fewer toppings, but everyone is different. I suppose in the future I could ask to go light on the toppings. But I'd rather they be generous rather than skimpy.

I looked at the menu and honestly all the sandwiches looked so good that it was hard to just choose one, but I wanted breakfast so I went with the Plain Breakfast Sandwich. I was asked how I want my egg cooked and I chose sunny side up. Options for cheese were swiss or provolone and I couldn't decide and I was able to get a slice of both on my sandwich! I also ordered a bread pudding on the side. After ordering I was given a little buzzer that would go off when my food is ready. I hung out and didn't wait too long until my buzzer went off and it was a nice loud beeping that would be easy to hear if I had left it in my pocket. After the food is ready then you pay. When I went back to my car and I couldn't help myself I ripped open the bag and I was in awe of my sandwich. Look at my photos, do you see that melty stretch of cheese that is so perfect??????????? The brioche bun is soft and fluffy, the egg seasoned with salt and pepper perfectly and cooked to perfection, and the cheese is stretchy and gooey and so delicious. Was I licking the wrapper when I was done? Maybe! If I could give more than 5 stars for my sandwich I would! I love me a banana pudding and I thought I was going to wait to eat it at home, however I could not control myself I popped it open and I gobbled it down. After placing an order on their website, you would park in the back lot where it's free parking, and enter a tempt room of lockers. I wish they included this in the text where you are to CALL THEM to let them know you've arrived so they can bring your order out to you. It's not like the other establishment in this shared kitchen where they just leave it in one of the order cubbies to pick up. So here I am like an idiot just standing and waiting in the empty room for my order. I didn't know until I checked my email and it said to call them in my receipt. Oh well. Anyway, here's what I ordered: BASTURMA BRISKET - $29 Hand Carved Basturma Brisket, Pickled Persian Cucumber, Chaman Spread, and Swiss Cheese. Served in freshly baked pita bread. Yes, it's a bit on the saltier side, but that's why you have the cucumber to balance it out a bit and the warm and soft pita bread. The brisket was tender and I loved the spread (which you can buy!). It's such a unique take on the common pastrami sandwich. So remember: 1. Order online (no phone calls) 2. Park in the back 3. CALL THEM, letting you know you have arrived. 4. I ordered the Basturma Brisket Sandwich which is their most popular item. I am a big fan of both Basturma and Brisket so this sounded like a match made in heaven. And I was right!!! This sandwich was epic!! The meat was tender and smoky. The spices were perfectly balanced. It had a delicious Chaman Spread, a slice of Swiss cheese and housemade pickled Persian cucumbers. The acidity of the pickles helped to balance out the rich meat. It all came together like magic. The sandwich is quite large, which justifies the $29 price. I only ate half and saved the rest for later. It was just as good cold as it was hot. I can't wait for my friends to try it. They will love it!! Great job III Mas!

I recently went in and ordered a Philly cheesesteak over the counter. I waited patiently, tipped well, and about 20 minutes later an employee looked me directly in the eye, handed me a sandwich, and told me my order was ready. I got home, opened the sandwich, and found a turkey sandwich. Completely different order. I immediately called the store and explained what happened. Instead of an apology, I was told I needed to bring the sandwich back and that the entire sandwich needed to be there. Of course the entire sandwich was there. I hadn't touched it. I was also told they would start making my correct sandwich while I drove back. When I returned, the person I spoke with, who appeared to be a supervisor, manager, or owner, told me, "You must have taken the wrong sandwich." No. Your employee handed me the wrong sandwich and told me it was mine. When I explained that, the response was essentially, "Well, I was on break, so I don't know." That attitude bothered me far more than the original mistake. Mistakes happen. Handing someone the wrong sandwich is an easy mistake to forgive. What isn't so easy to overlook is treating the customer as though the mistake was somehow their fault, requiring them to drive all the way back, and showing virtually no apology or concern for wasting their time. Then came the replacement sandwich. The original cheesesteak I watched them prepare went through the pizza oven. The replacement did not. They also used American cheese instead of the cheese I ordered, and the sandwich was noticeably underbuilt, with very little meat, as shown in my photo. After the interaction I had just experienced, it was difficult not to view the replacement as passive-aggressive. What should have been simple was, "We're sorry. We handed you the wrong sandwich. We'll make this right." Instead, I felt accused, inconvenienced, and then handed a lesser sandwich as though they were doing me a favor. I've been coming here since the previous owners, going back to the late 1980s. Unfortunately, this also isn't the first time recently that I've received substandard service or a substandard product. At some point you have to stop judging a place by what it used to be and judge it by what it is today. For me, this experience did exactly that. I'd keep the photo of the underbuilt cheesesteak attached. It supports the part of the review people might otherwise dismiss as subjective.
