The famous Porto's. Everywhere you go in Glendale, you see people with Porto's boxes. Of course I had to go there. I found it right down the street with ample parking on the street. Once inside, it is huge with seemingly 2 areas that look similar, although one side says "Bakery". The bakery side is even bigger with more choices. In the middle is where you can order coffee. In the bakery, you can can choose breakfast sandwiches and I ordered a chorizo breakfast sandwich which was very good! We also got their famous potato balls which have meat and cheese inside. The tricky part is that they give you a buzzer and you actually have to go to another part of the store (the other side and toward the back) to pick up your sandwich. I found this place to have beautiful looking pastries which taste very good. It's convenient and the entire place is a machine with very efficient workers that get you in and out. One of my all time favorite bakeries, and Porto's locations. Always very crowded, but worth it for the food. We sat outside because there was no indoor seating available. It was quite hot and close to the road, but there weren't other options. Very lively ambiance. I usually don't come here to dine in, just order bakery items, but their bakery and fresh food is both equally good. We ordered the ropa vieja plate, a sandwich and matcha latte (the jasmine blue one). The ropa vieja is one of my favorite things to get, the meat is incredibly tender and juicy. I love their rice as well, which pairs well with the meat and beans. I'm not a big fan of the plantains or caramelized banana that comes with it, just because I cant get used to the texture and sweetness. Their sandwiches are top tier, I usually get the Medianoche which is excellent ! The matcha was also pretty good, more milky and not a strong tea flavor. Still a good drink! Recommend Porto's for everyone! For bakery items, our favorite is the cheese rolls and the potato balls. They also have excellent cakes. Really sad to see the original location not on par with West Covina. West Covina is the more premium experience. They know how to run their business and stand on business. The scones were not the same size as display and I asked for the scone to be swapped. Yes, those scones are my mom's favorite, and the one you picked out was mini. Overall 3.5 stars I had heard amazing things about this bakery so while we lived in LA, we had to try this spot! The parking wasn't too bad, and this spot was crowded! I mean the line was about 40 mins or so, but we were determined. Inside gets loud and busy. We tried a few of their baked goods, the smaller cakes (tiramisu and something with guava), along with their potato balls. The food didn't live up to the hype in my opinion. A lot of the pastries are displayed for you and come out hot and/or fresh. A breakfast and lunch menu as well. My beautiful, delectable Portos... Where do I even begin. I am a regular at this bakery and I cannot recommend it enough. The pastries are affordable and never lacking in quality. My go tos are the chicken croquette, cheese rolls, and the chocolate chip cookie. The chicken plate and Dulce de Leche latte are also stellar. This is the first place I take friends that are visiting out of state and they love it every time! Service is top notch. Even with a line out the door, you never wait longer than 25 minutes. In the rare instance that there is a mistake with your order, they are quick to make it right and offer a refund. Staff are always efficient and kind. The service setup is fairly streamlined - a bakery half and a cafe half, but both effectively offer the same things - food, baked goods, and seating. I waited in a queue for only a few minutes, which was still a bit surprising considering it was late on a Monday evening; seating was basically maxed out as well, again given it was a Monday night. I did a wide breadth of a trial - guava strudel, pineapple empanada, opera cake slice, mango bomb, and of course their signature potato ball. The cakes were quite good; textures were as they should be, flavors were punchy, and portion was good. The potato ball was warm, crisp, and well seasoned throughout. While the flavors and prices were good, nothing was arguably exceptional. Prices were pretty on par for what is offered by other, similar establishments, otherwise I would've given them that last star. Overall, a great bakery, great flavors, great service. Worth the hype? Today was my first time here, holy mackerel it was incredible. We arrived around 0800 on a Sunday morning. (FYI don't miss paying for parking when parking in the street everyday except holidays) The atmosphere was gorgeous: a lot of light, plenty of seating, fantastic music, orderly & speedy ordering process. I ordered the French toast, a chocolate chip cookie, a cinnamon roll, loaded yucca fries, a strawberry pistachio tartllette, a cubano, churro croissant, 2 chocolate croissants, a mango mousse bomb, an orange juice, 5 hot chocolates and a dulce de leche latte. Mia, who took my order was patient & helpful. Mia packaged our to go pastries with a lot of care. We received our "for here" food rather quickly and immediately were impressed with the presentation of the food. Everything was delicious. The loaded yucca fries were so tasty: the bacon, the sauce and the bell pepper: all complimented each other and left me wondering where they had been all of my life. The French toast: came with fruit and a syrup I can't quite place but was exquisite. My children gobbled up their pastries with glee & enjoyed their hot chocolates. The cubano was generous with meat, crispy, flavorful, high quality mustard, perfectly seasoned pork. The mariquitas were perfectly fried and salted, leaving a nostalgic feeling with my Puerto Rican companion of his grandmother's fried plantains. The orange juice tasted like it was freshly squeezed: the oranges were perfectly sweet. We enjoyed everything so much I bought more pastries to try later: 2 raspberry macaroons, a meat pie, bolillos, 2 packs of mariquitas cubanos (fried plantain chips) and a few pastries to bring back for my parents to try in Northern California. The staff was friendly: the busboy was engaging and friendly, the behind the counter workers were smiling and pleasant. I was thoroughly impressed with my visit here. My family and I will now make visiting Porto's a must whenever we visit L.A. I loved this place so much I can't wait to try their online ordering nor can I wait for to try their lunch options (the hamburger with Spanish chorizo sounds incredible) After reading more about the history of Porto's I will say that their values shine through in their business. This place not only lived up to the hype it surpassed it. We visited the Sunday before Memorial Day:although I'm bummed they will not be open on the holiday I am happy that Porto's is the kind of business who values their employees and gives them holidays off (They are off for Father's Day as well).
