The Baklava Factory is a place that someone has recommended to me a long time ago now, but I don't get to Glendale to often. Finally a reason came up that we had to pick something up in Glendale near the galleria and everything in Glendale is usually within five minutes from each other, so finally Baklava Factory, here I come. Did I mention that baklava is one of my all time favorite dessert pastry. Upon entering through the doors and I saw sheet pans of a variety of freshly made baklavas, my mouth was literally watering. Because this place is no where near my house, I had to get a one pound variety of different styles. The kind lady was so sweet and helpful and explained the different kinds of baklava. I had to take it home and the minute I had a chance to try some, man how I wish they were a lot closer to me. Only sampling a couple and they were exactly what I was hoping for, I have a lot more varieties to try. Large quantities of sweets are dangerous in my house, so I opted for 2 very small pieces of baklava with pistachio and a baggie with 2 cheese boreka in it. Both were delicious, and I'm inclined to say the borek was even better than the baklava! Service was nice; be aware that there is a a debit card surcharge. No biggie, and I had cash for once, so it wasn't an issue either way. It's right next to Zankou, so it makes for a great little dessert. Baklava, like a lot of baked goods can have very different flavors. In the Arminian communities some prefer a stronger sent of flowers than others. Rose water is one of the most common but the strength of the sent can very greatly. I think this bakery has a very good balance and lists of choices as to styles and shapes. I'm not a big fan of baklava but I was in the area after lunch and was ready for a sweet treat. There's quite a variety of baklava (as the name suggests). It was a lot of fun perusing through each variety. Most had basic ingredients listed on the name card but there were some without descriptions or what they contained. When asking one of the women about one without a description, she basically said they're all the same with different shapes! Haha, well fair enough. Just picked a handful in a box and was on my way. Yes, they are still sweet. But their baklava was a bit less sweet and had a subtle aroma of rose, cinnamon and other spices that came through well. I have to say it's probably my first time enjoying baklava! The store also had other items like ice cream and a variety of Turkish delights. They all looked so pretty and the Turkish delights (displayed separately) in gift box sets resembled modern Korean artisan rice cakes sets that were aesthetically presented and packaged. read more

This is a place you go out of your way for. It's a place you plan your life around. It's sooo authentic and NOT mass produced. The review below referencing to the products being prepackaged-- doesn't know the difference between a merchants product and a cross market product. The merchants products are FRESH and made throughout the day to maintain overall freshness. Made with love like your Grandma's cookies. Each dish contains very distinct, potent, and bold flavors/ingredients/textures that will leave you drooling. If it weren't for health, I would only survive on this food. I've had this bakery saved on my places to go for awhile now and finally got the chance to get some yummy treats here! I went on a Wednesday afternoon and it was not busy at all. Parking area is limited so be mindful of that. The staff here were so helpful. I asked for their recommendations and everything I got was delicious. You can purchase by weight and my treats cost about $20. They also offer some prepackaged treats already if you want that option. They also sell ice cream which I'll need to try the next time I visit. I was visiting some friends in LA and my SIL told me that if I didn't stop by the Baklava Factory to get her some treats, she wouldn't allow me to come home. That's hilarious to me because she's Azerbijani and whenever she comes here, the Armenians treat her like garbage, but even she has to admit the baklava here is legit. My favorite is the nut-free one, the regular one, and the chocolate one and I always fill a small tray. The parking here is touch and go, but you can usually find one spot, so grab it when you see it. I love baklava but it's hard to find really good ones in the South Bay unless you go to a restaurant and pay $5+ for a dinky little piece that leaves your craving unfulfilled. This is when it's time to make that lengthy excursion to Glendale and stop by the glorious Baklava Factory. It's like the Willy Wonka factory for baklava lovers. The medium tray that I used to purchase has unfortunately gone up in price to $42 so I had to rein in my overwhelming desire and settle for a smaller tray, much to my dismay. I ordered 1/2 a pound of the baklava squares drizzled with chocolate and another 1/2 pound of the traditional smaller squares. Even this quantity cost $19. Who'd have thought the most effective weight loss program would be the result of inflation? At least I had acquired my stash even though soon, it would dwindle even more as my hungry spawn would attack my newly purchased treasure. Alas, this is one of the drawbacks of having children. I have been craving some baklava lately... not really sure why because I've never been too fond of baklava due to its extreme sweetness. However, I recently tasted some really good ones that are not too sweet. With that said, I was on my way to seek out a place that primarily makes baklava LOL. Baklava Factory was found! It has 3 locations; Glendale, Encino, and North Hollywood. Glendale is closest to me so here I am. Very cute shop with a good variety of baklava to choose from. It also has other pastries, cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc. Staff was friendly and kind to answer my questions. Thank you staff! I knew exactly the 3 types of baklava I wanted to buy... birdsnest walnut, birdsnest pistachio, and kataifi rolls with almonds (these 3 are delicious and not heavily sweet!). I got 12 of each. For the rest of the tray, per recommendation from the staff (thank you!), I also got 10 fingers with cashew and 10 sari-burma walnut (these are tasty, too! thanks staff for the sample!). All the baklava filled the tray nicely... it was a perfect fit. They charge $16 per lb of baklava or you may buy them by the pieces. If you're going to get more than a handful, I would recommend you buy by the lb for better value. It was about 5+ lbs which came out to be $87. I ended up paying a few more dollars because I didn't have cash on me so I had to fork out 3.99% more for the credit/debit card service charge. Yes, you read right, 3.99% more! It's all good... I wanted to leave the shop with my baklava LOL. Now if you don't want to pay extra for credit/debit card service charge, do bring CASH! The tray was packaged beautifully. I was very pleased. You don't necessarily need to call ahead to pre-order... just show up and choose your baklava. However, if you have a huge order, then I would recommend you call ahead to pre-order. They also have baklava that are already pre-packed for purchase. I prefer to choose my own since I know what I like. I haven't opened the tray of baklava yet. I intend to bring it to work and share with my team members. Oh, by the way, leave the baklava out in room temperature and it should be good for about 10 days or so, but no more than 2 weeks though (that's what I was informed). DO NOT refrigerate it! You want the crispy flakes to remain fresh and crispy. Otherwise, it may get soft and soggy. Happy Baklava'ing! read more

I absolutely love Baklava and during the holidays I wasn't sure what I would get as gifts, so my husband and I decided we wanted to grab some goodies from here. I have never had the baklavas from Baklava Factory, so I had to decide by trusting YELP reviews. I had called in a few times before I decided if I should order and have it mailed or just drive out. The lady that helped me was super friendly and very informative which is what made me make an easy decision to go ahead and buy sweets here. My husband and I decided to just drive down there and it was about a 2hr drive. When we got there they were just opening. There was only 1 person at the shop. I don't know the different names of each one of the sweets, but I do know they are made similar with different types of nuts. I was not sure what to choose from so I did a variety and she put them together for me. There are different gift box sizes and different prices if you decide to have it gift wrapped. I ended up getting it the way it is without the gift wrap and the prices were very decent and affordable. They actually give a good amount of goodies for the price. I would definitely do it again. Just be aware that it is very addicting and you may want to share so you don't overindulge. Parking was a bit confusing for us. We aren't from here, so we drove into the apartment/hotel/motel next door by mistake and we had to go back around. I really want to try other things here, but it's overwhelming because you see all the goodies and you really don't know where to start or what to choose. This is a great gift idea for any occasion.
