We used Van Go to paint our ugly rust brown stained dark brown trim house in 2003. They had to do 2 coats of primer then perfectly applied gray green paint with cream trim to erase the turdmuckle color scheme. Fast forward to 2019 and our paint job held up but we had to replace dry rot so had the house repainted but added a red front door. I found them reasonably priced and they did an A+ job, especially on the red semi-gloss front door. They said they'd be here at 8:15 every morning but they usually arrived at 8:14! We hired Van-Go about 5 years ago to paint our house. Now that more things have come to light, I've decided to give them a review. As far as the good goes, they painted the house quickly. As far as the bad goes...we have large bay windows that look out to the ocean. They got paint splatter on the exterior of the windows. The taping job they did was sub par. You can see where the paint leaked through the tape they applied. The worst was revealed just recently. We have a copper flashing around the exterior of our house and the paint has started to peel off. We called another contractor to come out to see about replacing the flashing. It turns out, Van-Go used the wrong type of paint for copper and it's now peeling off. You can also see corrosion on our garage doors. I'm assuming the incorrect (or none) primer was used here. But it doesn't stop there!! My mother-in-law recently hired them to power was her house. The original estimate was 8-10 hours worth of work...yes, to pressure wash a house. At first I thought they might be using sponges for that amount of time. They ended up getting the job done in 2.5 hours using two men. When she got the bill it was for 7 hours. Odd she thought, so she called and talked to the company who absurdly tried to justify the bill by giving her the following explanation: They charge for their employees to purchase the cleaning supplies, load up the track and....travel time. What it appears is as if Van-Go is putting out ridiculously long quote times and then completing the job in a fraction of the time and expecting the bill to be paid. I thought this was say perhaps...WRONG!? And the state contractors licensing board agreed. They spoke with me and told me this was absolutely illegal and would be opening up an investigation. A word to the wise....find a better painting company with better ethics. read more

We had our house painted a month or so ago by Van Go. I am very pleased with the job they did. Because we live by the beach and the back side of our home is on the receiving end of the storms, most of the old paint was peeling away. In fact, the whole house was about 3 or 4 years past when it should have been painted. It was in sad shape. Van Go came and did a thorough job in scraping off the old paint, and sealing things up. They primed the whole house, not just parts of it like other painters. I am a tough customer and I did a meticulous inspection of their work and found no real flaws. We'll see how the Kelly Moore paint holds up but I can say with no reservations that Van Go did a great job. read more

The crew was very detail oriented and took care of every last item and detail. This is the second time I have used them. The first painting lasted for more than 30 years and I don't have any reason to think that this painting won't do the same. Van-Go Painting is the best painting company on the Coast! Living next to the open space, we would get spiders nesting in ever nook and cranny of the exterior on the house. Van-Go suggested that we chalk the entire exterior, which we did. Now no more spiders and the house is much warmer as well. Willie lead the team. First they power washed (even cleaned the rain gutters), primed and chalked then painted. They also cleaned the windows as they went along. Van Go just painted my house last week. Because of coastal weather, it was really chipped and paint was cracked. I cannot say enough about the quality of the work and professionalism of the staff. They started on time and finished a day early. They also stained my decks. This is the second time they have painted my house and they just keep getting better, which is hard to do. They painted the Pigeon Point Light House on Highway one near Pacifica which was a massive job and beautiful. Goes to show that they don't care whether the job is big or small, they handle them the same way. Kudos to the staff, especially Ray and Willie and his crew. read more

We had our house painted by Van Gogh In 2009 at which time they did an excellent job. We live on the coast, a stones throw from the water and a really harsh environment for anything metal or stucco due to the salt and moisture in the air. I have to say that once again Van Gogh did an excellent job. First there was Benny the estimator guy, who basically told us how they were going to do what they were going to do... Power wash with a mold inhibiting solution ( a problem with the moisture), prep the surface ( scrape, patch, etc), prime, and paint with some kind of paint that's really good for our type of environment. They are a local company who employ local people which brings me to give a shout out to willie our painter dude. Gotta say willie did a great job, tightened up the house real nice and made it look like a birthday cake. He knows what he's doing and does it with pride. One last but not least. Though we didn't seek other estimates to compare, we were pleasantly surprised that the estimate wasn't too much more ( $200-$300) than what we paid in '09! Gotta say we love Van Gogh. read more

Van Go Painting had painted our house 14 years ago. We were pleased then and we are pleased again. The estimator came on time , was efficient and right on the mark. Within a few days we had our full estimate and it offered a $300 discount if we signed the painting contract within 30 days. We did so and the show was on. They called within a few weeks, made an appointment to start. The employees were on time, very helpful, open to questions and stayed on the job for 3 straight days. They play good music while working too! We had no objection to them putting their sign out in front so people would know who did our beautiful paint job. We have recommended them before and no one has been disappointed. We think their fees are very fair for the excellent work that they do and would use them again in a heartbeat. Thank you Van Go Painting! P.S. When we went to the office to pay the building looked like it had closed down . They have sun protection shades over the windows. Horrible experience. I notice there are no recent reviews. I was not going to write the review but every day that goes by I have to keep cleaning up the paint balls that fall from the doors and baseboards from improper prep and waaaaay too much paint. I had contracted him to paint most of the interior of my home plus the following: Greg said he could wallpaper my master bath for me and asked me to get textured wallpaper so he could paper over what was there. When he came to do the job he said the wallpaper was too heavy and that he would paint over the existing wallpaper since it would be too hard to remove. I never gave him approval to do this and he proceeded anyway. I lost $300 to return and restock the wall paper. You can see the wallpaper bulges under the paint. He also said he could re-glaze my masterbath tub and sinks. 2 tries later and lots of mess and fumes -- it still had a dull finish. Greg did not charge me, but I hired someone else who knew what they were doing and they were finished with a beautiful job in 6 hrs. I had to hire another company to clean up the mess Greg and his crew left - $350. Nothing was professionally detailed or finished. Beware - he says he can do jobs he is not qualified to do. I know need another painter to come in and detail what he did not and clean all the paint on my floors and hardware. Horrible! read more

Van Go just finished painting the exterior of my house. This is the fourth time I have used them for both exterior and interior paint jobs. They last painted the exterior of my current house about 13 years ago and the paint was still in pretty good shape. Ray came out and gave me an estimate within a few days of my call. I got three quotes -- there's was right in the middle and I chose them. I can't say enough about their attention to detail on my job. The house was power washed and primed and they did a great job with the wall and trim paint, along with a heavily weathered pergola which they prepped very carefully including replacing some dry rotted wood. I changed my mind on the color of one wall after they had already painted it and they re-painted it for me without complaint and without an extra charge. Ray was on the job every day to check with me about his crew's progress. Leo and his partner were here at 8am sharp each of the six days it took to complete the job. When they were done they did an excellent job of cleaning up and left me extra paint as well. I recommend them highly. I got a professional paint job for a fair price. They were very easy to work with. I would use them again. read more

2+ years ago they did an excellent job painting my place with my very complicated color maps (we have 4 colors). We just recently had some minor peeling (it happens when you live on the coast) and they came out and did touch ups no charge. Great service, great company. read more

Van Go team of Sean and Ben just finished painting the interior of our second story home - family room, bedroom, office, and bathroom. A pretty big space. They did a wonderful job. The Van Go bid was the lowest of the four bids we got and took the shortest amount of time, three days for a three color coordinated look. They had to contend with painting vaulted ceilings and precarious skylight wells over the staircase. They arrived on time and the space was still livable each day while the work continued over three days. The last day they even helped us rehang our paintings with their extra high ladder. This is the third job we have given to Van Go. I was also very pleased when they painted the entire outside of our home two times, 13 years apart. read more

We are return customers and could not be more pleased with the exterior paint job that was just completed on our historical home in Menlo Park. From the moment I called to request an estimate, the service could not have been better, from start to finish. The estimator, Randy, arrived on time and was very pleasant and efficient. Within days of his visit, we received a VERY reasonable price quote by mail. This was the third bid we'd received on the house and the lowest. We knew from previous experience with Van Go, it was a reputable company, so it was an easy choice for us to make. From the moment the two painters, Ben and Leo, arrived at the house to begin the job, we knew we were in good hands. They were friendly, polite and professional. They were required to endure the almost unbearable heat spell we were having, throughout the time they were on the job, and never complained once, nor did they let the heat slow them down. Up and down the ladders they went, day in and day out, conferring with us several times a day to make sure we were pleased with what they were doing. I would categorize the work that these two men do as art, as they are not only talented house painters, they are mindful of colors, textures, and all the other elements that must come together to complete the picture in a satisfactory way. Their skill at not dropping a single bit of paint on the ground or on a window is remarkable as well. At the conclusion of each day of hard work, they put all their equipment away, and left our home as they had found it. We will never forget the experience we had with Ben and Leo this summer, and it is our intention to return to Van Go Painting soon to have them bid on doing some interior painting for us. They are professional, on time, very professional and most important, listen to what you want. In my option Van-Go Painting is the only way to go!!!! They were extremely helpful with the special color that I had picked out and were able to match it perfectly. I used Van-Go Painting to have my house power-washed. The job was completed in 2.5 hours. When I received the bill, they charged me for 7 hours. When I called Van-Go, they said they were charging me 7 hours because they charge for going to the store to get the supplies, loading up the van, gas, and 30 minutes to/from the job site (Daly City). I've never heard of such business practice. I will never use them again, or recommend them. read more

I had used Van-Go Painting three different times. once on our house in San Bruno about 25 years ago. They did a wonderful job. When I moved to San Carlos I had them paint the house and again they did a great job. Then I used them again about 7 years ago. Right away I knew there was something wrong with the paint job. I wasn't sure what the issue was, but I called them up and had them come back out again to fix. The paint was cracking on the wood siding of the house. (The cracks weren't there before).. They came out and painted over the cracks, but you could still see that the cracks were there. I explained that I didn't want the paint to chip and peal after a few years. They promised it wouldn't. Well 7 years later it is pealing and chipping all over the place. Not just on the wood but also the stucco, which didn't have any cracks at all before either. I've never had stucco peal away. I called the owner and he came out he came out and looked at it and made some excuse as to why all the pealing and cracking. I have called another painter who said the reason why it pealed and cracked (he has never see stucco peal like this) is because they didn't prime it before they painted. I've used this company for many years and I'll never let them touch another house of mine. Now I have to have the whole side of my house re stuccoed and have the wood siding sanded down. I've never been so disappointed with a company like this. If I could have given a 0 star I would have. read more
