I'm a regular, daily customer. Sometimes I come in and sit for a while, sometimes I get my cuppa joe and run. Regardless, the service is consistently excellent, the staff are attentive and helpful, the menu has just enough choice that I don't have to order the same thing everytime I come in for lunch, and the coffee is excellent. Great prices, too. There is always a NewYorkTimes to read, as well as the SeattleTimes. A great place to sit alone and read a book or a newspaper, use your computer, or sit with a few friends and talk. For years, I had a little coffee shop in Belltown that I visited every morning on my way to work. I was such a frequent customer that the baristas got to know me and the service was fantastic. It closed in 2009 and it was like losing a family member. About that time, I started working in Wedgwood and needed a new frequent haunt. I tried the Starbucks (nice enough, but always swamped) and found my way north to Van Gogh. In a very short time, I became a regular. While the shop often gets busy, the baristas are incredibly efficient, the coffee maintains a high level of quality and the food is always tasty. I've become a new regular, but am always impressed at the friendliness of the baristas to customers, both new and old, and how efforts are always made to participate in the community. The parking is usually available and it is rare that there are no places to sit (a lot of the clientele is hit-and-run). While I may hit a Starbucks when I'm out of town, I rarely stray from my favorite coffee place when I'm home. read more

Fantastic place. Excellent drinks and food; warm, comfortable, welcoming environment; top-notch baristas and an extremely loyal and committed clientele. Janet, the owner, and her staff, take exceptional care of all customers, new and returning, remembering preferences, accommodating special requests and answering questions. I ordered a cappuccino and enjoyed every moment of it. The coffee house is clean. Parking is abundant. The menu is easy to read. The staff was neighborly, attentive and appeared to be genuinely happy to provide first rate service to every patron that came in while I was enjoying my drink. At the time I came, there were several families with behaved young children coming in for a coffee and light breakfast. I will definitely come back again and bring my munchkins. read more

I have been coming to this place for years and years and i have to say it just keeps getting better and better! The baristas at Van Gogh are wonderful because they arent there to just make your coffee, they genuinely care about their customers, i have never seen a place that has so many "regulars" but at Van Gogh it is almost impossible to walk in the shop and leave without a smile on your face because of the fantastic service, the great coffee and the decadent foods they have to eat! This is our favorite neighborhood coffee shop, and if we ever leave Wedgwood, we'd still come back, because it's that great! Staff is always super friendly and upbeat! They go above and beyond to get your order just as you'd like it. The Earl Grey Almond Steamer is my favorite! And the Big Train blended coffees make you never want to drink a Frappuccino again in your life! So much better here!! Small, but tasty selection of pastries, go with almond croissant, banana bread or poppyseed muffin! Recently updated seating inside, cute and cozy. The one star isn't for the quality of their coffee or the atmosphere or their food or the majority of their service. The one star is for one particular employee. I don't know her name though i have asked her multiple times. She has a rose tattoo on her arm though that is fairly new as well. She is the rudest person I have ever encountered. I've been coming here for a bout a year and I can't remember a single positive experience that involved her... ever. Just now was the last straw. I went in to get a drink and she was cleaning out the sink trap, she looks up makes eye contact with me does NOT wash her hands and then makes my drink. I don't know if this girl is a homophobe or just plain rude but I have let it go long enough. Even though the food and the coffee and the rest of he staff are amazing I will never be back and will urge all my friends to not go there because that girl is the rudest, most inconsiderate, eye rolling, condescending person I have ever met in my entire life. I really like this place. I'm not a coffee house habitue' because I usually prefer coffee at home. To me Starbucks is an uncomfortable atmosphere. With practically every customer glued to a computer, it's like walking into an office with expensive biscotti on the side. Van Gogh is a small, cozy place that seems made for conversation. Sure a few people are using their free WiFi, but most seem to be engaged with friends or a book, The coffee is excellent and the gal baristas are universally friendly. They used to put out water bowls for the various doggies folks tie up outside, but their insurance shysters complained about the "liability" and they recently had to remove them. They've got a good choice of tasty, homemade sandwiches, beverages, muffins, banana bread, cookies, soup and more, so you won't starve whether you want to nibble or enjoy serious breakfast or lunch. The walls are covered with pleasant, colorful and nicely done copies (not prints) of Vincent's art works. They're for sale and, I think, worth the asking price. Parking is free and easy. Even if you're there by youself, it feels like you're having coffee with friends. read more

I was going to starbucks as I gain rewards with food purchase. the coffee is now outrageously expensive. They have lost k team members and now its returned to the stuffy atmosphere it had several years ago. They remodeled and used the space well but it is really loud. The old salads they had were tad smaller but less money and better tasting. They also have green clerks. One of them when I commented about the salad said time to move on aka get over it. I have moved on...to return to Van Gogh..the food is amazing including the potato salads the milks for lattes delicious and the team is awesome. Janet has done great things with the shop,and is very community oriented. They treat every customer with such respect and have all ages that come there. Good Job! read more

This place has steadily gone down. The staff has changed in the years and the owner is more rude than before. They now charge for refills and the quality is not that good anymore. They have updated the seating but still there is little seating available because the place is very small and not big enough to take in many people. The crowd itself is mostly senior folks who are polite and it is a good regular place for them but that leaves you with no empty tables and you do the get oddballs and the talk about pro trump and stocks is quite loud. All in all a place for seniors with not much option in lunch/snacks. read more

This is a friendly neighborhood coffee shop with a variety of food offerings like made-to-order sandwiches. It's been there for at least ten years, although it's gone through some different phases (no more wine tastings). Free wifi and some outdoor seating. Dogs are often parked outside. I think they have a water bowl for pooches. They have several small tables, one larger table, and some comfy chairs around a coffee table. The clientele is mostly older (people in their 60's+) or the stroller set. It's fine for a 2-hour study session (especially after 2pm, when it is not as busy), but not a good place to camp out because of the limited seating. What a nice place! I'm not a typical Seattle addict spending beaucoup bucks every day on lattes, or cappuccini or fancy schmancy coffee drinks. It's not that I don't like coffee; for most of my ad agency career I guzzled something like 20 cups a day in the office.. At age 81 I'm now down to a cup of drip at home in the morning, or maybe two, When we're at our home in Italy I drop in at the corner coffee shop once in awhile for a cappuccino, which the Italians only drink in the morning. But Van Gogh is a special treat. I hardly ever go there alone because it's a swell place to talk to a friend, have a cup of rich, good tasting drip and tuck away a white chocolate macadamia cookie. The gals who work there are charming and invariably good natured. The environment is not Starbucky, with every single patron glued to a computer. Yoiu'll see a computer or two, but as likely as not Van Gogh regulars are reading a book or just talking to friends. The coffee's better too. Hot but not scalding, nicely roasted but not burnt to a crisp (along with your tongue.) The walls are hung, not with reproductions of Van Gogh paintings, but nicely turned out copies, well done, hand painted and fully textured originals, if I may dare call them that. You can't call them forgeries because they don't pretend to be the real thing. The real real thing at Van Gogh is the sociable atmosphere, plus a lot of variety in coffee beverages and food from sandwiches to soups to salads to baked goods. It's a little on the small side, so they ask that you not hang around to finish reading a 700 page novel around lunch hour while nursing that sixth coffee refill you've poured for yourself at no extra cost. I'm happy to honor that. At Van Gogh, the whole place lets you know you are among friends. There's usually plenty of free parking out front and when the weather is good there are tables and chair on the sidewalk just outside the front door. There's also a water dish out there for Fido and usually a dog or two tied outside and wondering when Mom is going to come back and hopefully bring out a treat. # # # read more

I was a regular customer in Van Gogh for about three months and tended to spend between $5 and $12 a day there (not including tips). The drip coffee was always tasty, and a banana bread (breakfast) and tuna melts (lunch) were good. One problem was that five out of the six days I went in there (Monday thru Saturday) I was forced to either return the coffee airport or the cream server - and sometimes both, to be refilled before I could get my coffee. But that's not my issue with the place. My issues is that when Janet, the owner of the shop, learned that I was not a Seattle Seahawk fan, her face turned sour and then she said, "it's lucky for you that you get the drip coffee otherwise we'd spit in your drink." Since the bulk of Seahawk fans are mouth-breathing, sloped-browed, knuckle-draggers, I'm pretty used to the classlessness from this lot. But such a comment goes well beyond bad taste. It's freaking stupid. So now Van Gogh Coffeehouse is out somewhere between $30 and $72 a week (not including the more than generous tips I left). But not to worry Janet; when your fellow mouth-breathing, sloped-browed, knuckle-draggers Seahawk fans read this I'm sure they'll more than make up for the loss of my business. read more

I had a wonderful experience here. They were really thoughtful and flexible about accommodating my diet (vegan) when there wasn't a vegan option on the menu. I am a frequent customer at this charming cafe. Diverse in its variety they sell wonderful sandwhiches pastries and soups and for a topper the best Gelatia one could desire. All who work here are warm and friendl;y to each customer whether a frequent visitor or first timer the service is fast and the quality of lattes a 10. One of my favorites. Just the right distance for a bike ride to pick up a tea and pastry. I'm a tea drinker, so I don't comment on the coffee, but the pastries are good and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. This place is quickly becoming an addiction. The atmosphere is bright and inviting but not to overwhelming. The coffee is spot on and the pastries (which I keep hearing they bake on location) are DELICIOUS. One of the most notable things about Van Gogh's is the staff ; they are friendly, efficient, and always greet me with a smile.
