This is one of the most amazing hidden spots as far as cafes go. There menu selection is good, which many Sandwhich, pastries, drinks and snacks. You can dine in thier cozy classic cafe atmosphere or get food to go very quickly. The staff is always friendly and have had me coming back for many years now. We stayed in the neighborhood while visiting Seattle and I was so happy to find this gem of a cafe. My latte was delicious (and I'm picky), they had vegan cream cheese for my bagel (thank you!!!) and I devoured an insanely good blackberry bar that was also vegan-friendly! This is a really cute and cozy cafe with comfortable seating and great local art on the walls! We stopped by for a little treat and ended up getting a cinnamon roll, Marionberry pie, and the soup of the day with garlic bread. The service was great and the cinnamon roll was one of my favorites that I've ever had! You definitely have to have it warmed up. Loved the pie and it took me right back to the Oregon coast! The soup was decent and I was happy to hear that their soups of the day are always vegan. The garlic bread that came with it was great and VERY garlicky. I loved it but my breath smelled for a while after that! I definitely want to come back sometime and get some work done here. I have been coming here for many years- I live a few streets over. It is pretty nasty. I have never once seen any one sweep the floors or clean the tables or counters. But the staff are friendly, efficient and good at what they do. The menu selection is good and the coffee here is perfectly balanced and rich. They do some nice latte designs which I always enjoy. What a gem! Because of the stupid way Seattle zoning works, it is very unusual to have a cafe on a residential street here, so Irwin's is really special. Homey and unpretentious vibes. Giant chocolate chip cookies, muffins and cinnamon rolls. I even love their house salad which comes with a chunk of focaccia and a generous sprinkling of cheese and nuts (so often when you order a salad you just get a sad plate of lettuce). Service is impressively fast for such a busy little place! It could be a little cleaner, but I will take a slightly sticky table over the bland sterility of a lot of Seattle cafes these days. There is limited outdoor seating and we had no trouble finding street parking nearby on a sunny Saturday. Perfect place to stop on the way to nearby Gas Works Park. Edited to add: I notice a lot of the bad reviews of this place are related to price. No it's not cheap but hi, don't know if you noticed, but Seattle is bonkers expensive and so is most every restaurant in town--it's very unfair to penalize Irwin's for charging on par with almost everywhere else. read more

This Imperial Establishment sported delicious drinks and pastries and a STRONG CONNECTION TO THE DARK SIDE. The force was strong with these scones (and service)! First of all, the counter staff was very cool. Friendly, personable, they were kind enough to answer my silly questions on a busy morning. "What is a Greek pizza?" Never heard of one, but they make it there, Down to business. I ordered two different types of scones: cherry pecan, and marionberry. The marionberry scone was delicious, but not even as the same league as the cherry pecan variety. Honestly, I've never had such a good scone. Evah. The cherries were ripe and bursting with flavor, and whoever's recipe this is -- and those who baked these -- should be enshrined in the Seattle Bakery Hall of Fame. Yes, they were THAT good. Should I ever be so lucky to get back to Irwin's, I'm looking (and expecting) lightning to strike twice. Also ordered an Americano and a latté for my partner: not exactly my favorite blend of coffee, but the Americano had enough caffeine to kick me into high gear for the morning. I grew up in the neighborhood and this place has been here as long as I can remember and miraculously managed to maintain its charm. I like that they still have coffee punch cards and display small art shows on the walls. Food and drink are a tad expensive but not out of line for Seattle and pretty good. I don't usually like scones very much but theirs are really tasty and quite large. There is usually an ample amount of street parking so that shouldn't be an issue. There is a A frame outside with a Irwin's Cafe sign. FOOD & DRINK // I've tried the following: ICED VANILLA LATTE WITH OAT MILK: My go-to drink and it's always done pretty well here. JALAPENO BAGEL WITH CREAM CHEESE: Just know that they put a TON of cream cheese on your bagel - and I mean a TON. The second time I ordered this, I asked for less cream cheese. It was better but still a decent amount. Just ask for less if you know you don't want a ton of cream cheese. BLUEBERRY MUFFIN: So delicious and flavorful and chunks of blueberry inside! A big fan. SERVICE // The staff here are very friendly. I've always had a positive experience here. The music here is so good.. whoever was playing music on July 28, I love you I got the Italian sandwich and a iced latte! So yummy. Apparently, iced lattes cannot be done at 8oz. Not a problem, but I think it's good for people like me (caffeine sensitive) to know this. :) My partner got a Chai. Maybe I just don't know what chais are supposed to taste like but it virtually had 0 flavor, just hints of spiciness. There's something so nostalgic about it ~ it seems like you're walking into someone's house with the half-open kitchen in the back, it always smells so good... and couches & dining tables in front, lots of people reading newspaper enjoying their coffee. Had been wanting to try this place for a long time! Very nice atmosphere and vibe but the staff were all extremely cold to me? I ordered for to go and they mistakenly made it for here, when I asked for it to go, this is what I got. Mind you this lunch is $16. SIXTEEN DOLLARS. I had not taken a single bite out of that 'salad' AKA five pieces of spring mix. Really disappointed in the price point and value of the meal. Spotted by here on a whim on a Sunday and it was quite packed. The line was out the door. But we took that as a sign of quality and waited anyway. The workers here are just lovely people, so friendly and welcoming. Amazing people. The food here is great, we had a bagel and a croissant sandwich which were both delectable. We also tried some of their scones, both were fantastic. All of their baked goods look delicious. The coffee itself wasn't bad. I wouldn't come again just for the coffee, since it wasn't anything special, but I would definitely come again just to try all of their amazing baked goods and have a chat with the employees again. There's a good amount of tables inside too, if you want to sit. It looks like it gets busy, but that may just be because it was a Sunday. I'll have to come again to see! read more

Holy crap the food was delicious! I ordered grilled cheese at 10am and it was the best decision of my life because the sandwich had the perfect cheese pull- so gooey and comforting! The lemon scone was ginormous - fluffy and mildly lemony with a caramelized bottom. I have the chocolate chip cookie saved for later and I'm already salivating about it. The chai was unfortunately watery, but only a small complaint in the face of the food deliciousness. There's no inside seating (which would have been cute pre-covid) but they have an assemblage of no heated chairs outside to sit while you eat and gaze at the adorable neighborhood the cafe is located in. I'm going to have to make the mile trek back soon so I can try more of their menu items! read more
