We absolutely love coming here. The food is always fantastic and the service is always wonderful. Love their Dutch hot cocoa. The spicy coconut hot cocoa is definitely spicy; very flavorful and different. I had the Zeeland Salmon and the Bitterballen as an appetizer. Both were delicious, the Zeeland Salmon had lots of flavor. The salmon was cooked just right. Love their atmosphere as well. Can't wait to sit outdoors on a beautiful day and enjoy something new.

After being in Amsterdam recently on vacation & absolutely loving the food there we were pretty excited to try Van Gogh's for as close to "Authentic" Dutch food as possible. Stepping in we enjoyed the warm atmosphere in what appeared to be an Historic looking building & we were seated immediately. We ordered the Poffertjes Platter ( Baby Pancakes, 2 Egg Skillet w meat ) & the Opas Meat scramble ( 4 Egg scramble w Ham, Bacon & Sausage w one Pancake ) Our meals were served quickly but honestly both of us were at least slightly disappointed because nothing seemed very Authentic, especially the Pancakes. In fact another person's review said the food wasn't very hot at all which we both agreed with. Our server, Crystal, did a great job of taking care of us despite the food being quite unremarkable. Some day we will try this restaurant again but it won't be anytime soon.

What a delightful and completely unexpected gem in downtown Springfield, MO. This Dutch restaurant was a true surprise!! and I say that as someone with nearly 2,200 Yelp reviews under my belt. I can't remember ever stepping foot in a Dutch restaurant... let alone in a charming little corner of the Midwest. We parked a block away due to our RV, but regular folks will find plenty of spots right in front. From the moment we walked in, it felt like something special. My husband ordered the spice cake latte, which smelled like a spice cookie and he reported that it tasted just as good. And believe me, he's not usually one to wax poetic about a cup of joe. Hubby had the breakfast plate with eggs and asparagus (and a lemon sauce), which came with honey cake on the side. I went all in on the traditional Liege waffles! doughy and sweet with authentic pearl sugar baked right in. The syrup was unique, somewhere between molasses and maple - not exactly my cup of tea, but I get it. The waiter recommend the sausage, DO NOT SKIP THE SAUSAGE HERE! (kinda like a kielbasa situation). My eggs were cooked to over-easy perfection. I actually struggled to scoop up all the delicious yolk with just my fork. The service was also excellent and the bathrooms were clean, which is always worth noting. If you find yourself anywhere near Springfield, do not miss this place. A rare and surprisingly wonderful culinary surprise!!!

A friend and I went around dinner time and it wasn't busy. No wait for a table. It's cute and quaint inside. Decaf latte was fabulous. I had a soda and the fizz was perfect not too syrupy. I am not a Mac and cheese fan but I am a sucker for pesto. The Chicken Pesto Mac and Cheese was delicious. It had mushrooms and broccoli as well. Not a fan of cooked mushrooms due to the texture but I ate a few since they were included and they really weren't that bad to me. The Peace fries were a different kind of taste for me but still very good. A ketchupy kind of curry flavor. The waiter was very pleasant and threw me off when he offered a straw and asked if I wanted my favorite color. It's small but it made me smile. The forks were kinda big.

Sometimes when I'm out traveling I stumble across the most interesting and scrumptious places. I was rolling through Springfield, and wowza!! Delicious coffee, kombucha, and the Smoked salmon Latke was all time! Cute little old town to top it off. Loved this place!!

Van Gogh's is on a cute street with amazing charm! The inside has tall ceilings with colorful artwork on all walls and is very welcoming! Valerie greeted us and was also our server. She had amazing energy, wonderful guest service and made our visit very memorable. The food was delicious and they had several vegan options!! Even a vegan dessert :) We highly recommend this charming eatery.

My family had a reservation for 6 (including one kiddo under the age of two). The staff was very kind and attentive. All of the food was enjoyed at the table, but personally I ate the bitterballen appetizer and the Meatball Mac. Both were delicious! The bitterballen are the closest thing I have found to a true Dutch Croquette since trying one in Holland.

Oh my goodness this little gem on Commercial Street is a must try! I've gone twice (once for breakfast and once for lunch). Both times there was a little bit of a wait that was well worth it. Fantastic food, staff and ambiance. You don't feel like you are in Springfield, MO! I'm excited to come back and try dinner and dessert. Oh they have Kombucha on tap! We went here for breakfast today. We waited almost an hour for our food, which would have been OK if it had been worth the wait. It wasn't. I ordered Morning in Den Haag, which was supposed to be eggs with vegetables, topped with shaved aged cheese and arugula, with skillet chips and toast. I was brought tepid scrambled eggs with chopped raw red and green bells peppers mixed in. That's it. I asked about the potatoes and was brought a very small portion of cold but crispy fired potatoes that would have been good except they were extremely over salted. And no condiments. The "toast" was a cold piece of dry, stale bread. I asked for butter and jam and was brought a little dish of small crumbles of butter that was just about frozen solid and had obviously been chiseled off a block. My husband's food was also cold and had very little flavor. We politely told our server about the food quality. She was very nice and apologized. She said she would ask her manager about a discount. When she brought us the check, 10% had been deducted. So, it was still $25 for the meal and I never got any answer at all about what happened to the arugula and shaved cheese. The 10% off felt like a slap in the face. I wouldn't be posting this review at all if there had been some ownership by management of the terrible food and ridiculously long wait time, but since we were treated so poorly, I feel compelled to warn others. It's such a shame too because it's a beautiful building, the servers are friendly despite being in a terrible position, and the menu would be incredible if one actually received the food that one ordered. read more

The decor was very pleasant, it is a nice and open restaurant. The food, however, was not good. I had the brazed beef which was moderate. My wife had the Shrimp Nasi Goring. She did not enjoy it. One of my children had the Frisian Chicken Salad sandwich, which was reasonable. My other child had the Meatball Sandwich that was rather tasteless. For dessert we decided to share a slice of their apple tart which was not at all good. The Apple wasn't cooked long enough and the crust was soggy. I don't recommend eating here. read more

This is a truly amazing place to go. I was blown away by the rookwurst they have. Try it you won't be disappointed. Very spacious restaurant with comfortable seating. Sunday brunch was adequately staffed and we were able to be seated pretty much right away. read more

I'm unimpressed. It took over 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered. I had the sunflower masterpiece pancake. It was cold when I got it. It was also missing the skillet potatoes that were supposed to be on it. I had to send it back to be warmed up, and they brought me a side of potatoes after I pointed out they weren't on the pancake. The pancake was ok. Nothing special. Definitely not worth the wait. read more

I am a fan but have to compliment Van Gogh's again. My friend was helping me and I wanted to treat her to a good meal. She mentioned she had never eaten at Van Gogh's and had heard they had a 4 course special deal. We called to reserve an outside table (the only way I am comfortable being out) and headed to the restaurant! We were met by Holland and given our lovely sidewalk table. We asked for recommendations on the special and were directed to the peace fries! Ok - I don't like ketchup but these come with a pesto sauce and curry ketchup. I couldn't get enough! We had the Shrimp nasi Gorham and Van Gogh's ear entrees; both were delicious and enough for leftovers! Then we finished with the Starry Night dessert and asked for a coffee recommendation. Again, Holland did not disappoint and made us a cinnamon infused latte to compliment the ginger in the berry compote of our dessert! It was another perfect night of food, company and fresh air! read more

I literally never write Yelp reviews but this place has amazing and very clearly marked vegan dishes which is relatively rare in this area. Breakfast today. Fifth table seated shortly after 8am. Waited over an hour for an order of buckwheat pancakes, a "Brexit" style breakfast, consisting of two eggs, half a tomato, half a sausage, home fried chips, one piece of toast and pork and beans. Wife ordered pancakes but substituted eggs with sauce and sliced veggie, order of toast, which never made it out to her and two coffee. $30.00. Listed all this show the same meal can be found elsewhere cheaper/quicker. Nice server, nice decor, loud when busy. Hopefully growing pains as so far not impressed. read more

Not happy customers. We were a table of 4, waited over an hour for our breakfast. The server indicted we were seated in a slam-time, however, both tables that were seated 5 minutes before us had eaten, paid their bill and left the restaurant for 10 min before our we had our food. We asked to speak to the owner, our food arrived, he followed 5 min later. We explain our frustration, he made excuses!! We told him about the other tables who had already left the restaurante. The owner called us terrible people and that we weren't truthful that the tables around us had turned over. We are not terrible people, just very frustrated. I'm not sure how long he will be the owner if this if this is how he handles customers or busy times. We were polite to our server and more than understanding. What we expected from the owner was that he would listen to us and validate our frustration and an apology. NO EXCUSES! We were told by our server that we would not be paying, not by the owner. that's was the first thing he should have said when he approached our table. We didn't want free food, we wanted to be heard. We won't be back and will share with others to do the same. Very disappointed. read more

History

Established in 2018.

Van Gogh's opened in March of 2018. It is the 2nd restaurant by a local family that operates the popular Cafe Cusco down the street and Chabom Tea + Spice Market. "C Street" as the locals refer to it, is a part of the up and coming Historic District of Commercial Street which was once the headquarters of the Frisco railroad in the late 1800s.

Pork Wings: Again, needed more seasoning to elevate the pork. And the dipping sauces were a bit unusual. And the Asian style sauce - by gosh did it have a ton of saffron. Patagonia side item: These potato chunks weren't much. Potatoes were nothing special, under seasoned and the dipping sauce was unusual. And so much saffron, it was way overpowering. . Is it worth going to - absolutely and the place is neat. But I give an extra 1/2 to 1 star more, just because of the neatness of the place.

I really wanted to like The Table…read more The space itself is absolutely beautiful -- one of the best dining rooms in Springfield -- and it feels like the kind of place that should deliver a more elevated, full-service experience. That's part of what made the counter-service model feel a little out of sync with the atmosphere. We first tried visiting as a group of about 12 on a Saturday around 7 PM. I had called ahead and was told they don't take reservations, so we planned accordingly. When we arrived, we were told there wasn't any way to accommodate our group together -- not even the option to wait for space to open up -- so we ended up going elsewhere. I did come back later with a smaller group for lunch. The experience was better logistically, but still a bit disjointed. The menu felt somewhat scattered, and while we were able to find seating at a communal table, the overall flow felt a bit chaotic. After ordering at the counter, the wait for food was quite long -- around 45 minutes or more -- which gave us plenty of time to observe how things were running. Toward the end, I noticed tables being marked as unavailable/reserved, which made me wonder why a similar approach couldn't have worked for larger groups earlier. When the food arrived, it was good -- nothing wrong with it -- but not especially memorable, especially considering the wait and price point. There's a lot to like here, especially the space and overall concept, but the execution didn't quite match the expectations for me. I do think with some adjustments to service flow and consistency, this could be a much stronger experience.

This review focuses solely on the food, as the service was excellent--cheerful and attentive without any issues. However, the food was a big letdown. We started with the beet hummus, listed on the menu as being served with vegetables and crostini. Instead, it arrived with carrots, celery, and cold French bread. The beet hummus itself was passable but lacked flavor. The dish would have benefited significantly from genuine crostini, which is meant to be toasted bread. Our order also included Dutch meatballs, a dish I was excited to try because I love Dutch meatballs. The menu listed mashed potatoes and broccoli as the sides to the meatballs, but only the mashed potatoes were served initially. After requesting the broccoli, our server promptly apologized and provided a small bowl of slightly warm, evidently microwaved broccoli. Additionally, the gravy was not the traditional Dutch variety but rather a mundane, flavorless brown gravy. The entire dish was served lukewarm and was overall uninspiring. Other than the meatballs, served in a cast iron pan, the food was served on plastic plates, which took away from the experience. Switching to real plates could make a big difference and elevate the food. The menu's descriptions had initially excited me, but the reality of our meal left me thoroughly disappointed. Given this experience, I hesitate to return for another meal that might end in disappointment. While we might consider returning for breakfast, we'll skip dining there for dinner again. I hope that the restaurant will start to pay closer attention to details, such as serving actual crostini when listed and incorporating authentic Dutch spices into their meatball sauce. read more

Every time we go, this restaurant impresses me. We love the variety of flavors and the fact that all dishes are prepared individually with fresh ingredients. If you are craving a new experience in a beautiful environment that will transport you across the ocean to The Netherlands, then Van Gogh's Eeterie is the place to go! Friendly staff, excellent service and amazing cuisine. It will very quickly become your go to spot! Their hot drinks and international beer selection is unique and delicious. Always great experience! Love the European flavours and cheery atmosphere. Takes a bit longer then chain restaurants to get your food, but that's because it's not a chain! It's real food!
