Trendy, hipster vibe with a Dutch accent. Inventive foods with Scandinavian and Western influences. Cute, relaxed decor, big bright windows, friendly prompt service, and some outdoor seating in the rear. This is the kind of place you could hang out in, don't​ be surprised to see business people, college kids, date nighters, after-party goers, ladies who lunch get-togethers, senior friends meeting for a treat, and coffee drinkers all mixed together. There is a little bit of everyone here. Located on an artsy Main street with lots of bars, craft shops, and galleries and right across from a farmers market. It's very walkable and a great place for people watching on the weekend and close to the college and some of the off-campus housing. The food is tasty and unique. Mostly lighter than you might think. I had an​ open face sandwich with fried egg, cheese, arugula​, a light dressing, grilled ham (not American style ham), a whole wheat crusty bread. Serviced with some really good fries and a sauce that was a cross between hollandaise and a fry sauce. We have come back several times and enjoyed it every time. We order a house salad to split. The waiter brought the salad but didn't bring two plates. The food was o.k. At the end of the meal the waiter left all the dishes on the table. The meal was close to 100.00 for two without dessert. read more

I'll start by saying I always would much rather have any business - not just restaurants - be honest with me and tell me if they can't provide for whatever it is I'm needing. Much better to say "no" and not disappoint with a "yes" that they can't deliver. My wife and I stopped in last night, Friday night, during a "parents' night out" without our little one. We arrived at 6:40 p.m. - an hour and 20 minutes before our daughter had to be picked up. As several other parties were waiting, we asked about the wait and were told 20-30 minutes, which would give us potentially only 50 minutes for the meal service. We mentioned that we had a hard deadline of 8 p.m. and asked if we could get out of there in less than an hour once seated and were told "yes." The good news was that they seated us in only about 15-20 minutes rather than the full 30. But then we waited a very long time, maybe another 15 minutes, before ever seeing a server or having even water brought. Because we reviewed the menu prior to getting our table we had already narrowed down our food choices, but had more than plenty of time to decide by the time our server came. Upon ordering, we watched our available time to enjoy the meal quickly evaporate. Food finally arrived at 7:39 p.m. Now we would have to eat very rapidly to make it back to pick our little up. So, how about the food? The good: my wife's Frisan Chicken Salad Sandwich and cup of Ginger Carrot Soup was delicious! The not so good: I had been here maybe three other times, but had never yet tried the Dutch pancakes. So this time I opted for the savory "Aruba" with its unique mix of jerk-seasoned bakon, ham, rookwurst, peppers, pineapple, brandied raisins, banana, cheese. Having had no other Dutch food in my life besides my few visits to Van Gogh's, I have no frame of reference. But I assume the pancakes are authentic. If so, I'm not a fan of the kind of dough/batter in those. It's not a crepe and definitely not the bread-like pancakes Americans are used to. Perhaps it's like a very thick crepe that's not completely cooked? Or maybe a corn tortilla that's undercooked in texture (not flavor). In any event, I proceeded to eat very quickly, but wasn't really tasting any of the three meats I remember from the menu. Having never had the dish, and not being used to Dutch food, I thought maybe they were just tiny little bits, so I kept eating, but started to dig around on the dish and literally couldn't see anything resembling meat. Because we were in such a hurry to get back on time, I had gulped about 1/2 of it when I finally called our server over to say I suspected they had forgotten the meat. Her reaction, though friendly, immediately told me she had not been trained well in their menu to even know what each item should look like! That's a really bad mark for a server. It's one thing for servers to have not tried some menu items, but to not know enough about them to realize something is completely missing speaks to a lack of training by management AND to a lack of care by the server. I had to do a bit of convincing, using a previous Italian restaurant experience of missing chicken, to bolster my claim of the missing trio of meat, but she finally said she would go ask the kitchen. She returned with a bowl full of the three-meat mixture, and then it was even MORE obvious that anyone working there should have immediately been able to tell the meat was missing! They were not tiny bits of meat at all, but diced pieces very easily seen had they been on the pancake. Wow. While I'm very glad they brought the meat, honestly they didn't handle the issue like a top-notch establishment would. Given that 1/2 of my entree was literally missing half of what was supposed to be on it - not any of which was my fault - they should have at least offered to remake the entree for me (though we surely wouldn't have had time to wait). Or they could have offered to comp my meal or invite me back to try it again on the house, or . . . be creative if you want to have a return guest! To simply offer the missing meat just before we asked for "to go" boxes with a light apology wasn't acceptable. Overall experience was not stellar this time around. I'm a big believer in tips still being for EXCEPTIONAL service, not just an expected add-on at any specific rate and NOT on tax (as the state doesn't ever help serve me in a restaurant). My leaving nearly 14% this time around was overly generous. read more

Sometimes I wish I could give half a star rating but since that isn't possible I'll always round up. Of all the restaurants in Springfield, this is one of the most progressive restaurants in town at an affordable price. Super versatile menu but very chic. As such, this place can get packed and if that's the case, you can expect slow or sometimes service that doesn't get everything right. It's understandable, we're all human. But it can be disappointment. However, the food is really great. I've been here several times and my favorites on the menu (so far) are the Kapsalon Beef and Fresian Farmhouse. The Kapsalon Beef is like this amazing middle eastern/Mediterranean gyro meat dish meets French fries. Think street fare slightly elevated. To die for. Fresian Farmhouse is ham and prosciutto with asparagus and a béchamel sauce topped with arugula, two eggs and a sweet bread with butter. If you like eggs benedict, try this. While the service can sometimes get traffic overload and slow, all the servers are very pleasant and happy to help. If you're looking for a unique restaurant experience with flavors to wow your taste buds, this is it. read more

Customer service was rude, argumentative and condescending. And so now - as I have reviewed the way the owners respond to paying customers complaints and constructive criticism- I will await their narcissistic, reply. We will never return. The decor may be beautiful but the professionalism is an ugly void!!! Visiting this establishment is a roll of a dice. While - they may want to reply to my complaint/ wh- "we want to showcase the positive reviews" it would bring a resolve to just acknowledge there is always room for improvement... We had brunch here on a busy Friday morning after graduation. First thing arriving at the table, coffee. Unfortunately, it was really terrible. In all my years of traveling, and drinking coffee, I used to joke about a certain hotel chain that had universally bad coffee. This was worse. Do not recommend. We chose to order from the breakfast menu, which has a good variety of savory and sweet choices, I think I must've been in a "play it safe" mood because I just order the Opa Scramble which was eggs with meat. It was good, unremarkable. My daughter had the "red light.." something or other. Which looked good, the only thing was a topping on the french toast that was extremely spicy (like out of place spicy), in retrospect, we should've probably sent it back or at least asked about it, maybe a mistake of some sort. I had the vegan smothered brat with fries and curry ketchup. It was very good! My only request was for extra curry ketchup because it was great on the brat as well as the fries. Service was friendly and my food arrived quickly during the Sunday brunch service. A cool place different than others in the area. Their menu has lots of unique options and I like to revisit to try new stuff. I've been here twice now. I really liked the London fog drink and the Frisan Farmhouse the first time I went. The second time I got the vegan curry Mac, which I also really enjoyed. I wish it had a little more depth of flavor but overall it was really nice. I also tried the honey cake peach Melba.... Totally worth it! The peaches and syrup were very tasty. Perfect for Van Gogh admirers! The menu is pretty and everything is themed which I love. I got the breakfast Opa's meat scramble with gluten free toast. It was good! The potato crisps were delicious. I also loved the gluten free toast, I wish I knew the brand. I wasn't a fan of the red sauce the meal came with. I also got the Oma's vegetable soup which was a clear soup with celery, tomato, potato, kale, and red bell pepper (on the tangy side). The service was good, our server seemed very introverted but was still very friendly and did a good job as she was the only server that shift. Allow the pics to explain the owners negative attitude and then imagine how the employees will treat customers if they rebuttal anything. Now, if you eat their food and don't complain that it takes over an hour to receive it. Mind you that their excuse is always the same...."they are just so busy" which isn't true. Wife and I went to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. The service and food were absolutely amazing. We shared the Dutch fries for a starter. I had the Braised Beef Hutspot and wife took the recommendation from the server and had the beach de scheniningen. (Sp?) Wow, talk about the ultimate breakfast experience that is the foodie's dream!! From the first step into the space to the menu to the decor (look in the books and crannies), to the food that is served. Not only is the presentation instaworthy, the taste is phenomenal. Take the 10 minutes to read the menu, it may take you several minutes to decide on what you want to eat. Had to try one of their pannenkoeken (Dutch pancakes) ... I selected the White Tower, a 12-inch thick pancake similar to a crepe topped with chicken, wilted greens, lemon garlic bechamel, pesto and cheese. It was suuuuper savory! A bit rich, not an overly delicate breakfast food like I first thought. I was thinking "crepes, how dainty!" This was not that. It was very good but I could only eat half. If your dining partner can agree on one of the delicious sounding pancakes, it would be perfect to share. Hubby got the Leige Wafels - two beautiful pastry dough-style Belgian waffles with these crispy like pearl sugar nuggets baked inside. That was the best part! Topped with blueberries, strawberries and powdered sugar. Served with an egg any style. We also got a side of bakon which was Canadian which hubby loved. It had such good flavor. Seasoned super well. As an artist and great admirer of the Dutch Masters I absolutely love the vibe of this restaurant. There are great things to look at in every corner and on every wall. A very cool atmosphere for just about any kind of casual dining event. Lots of comfortable seating options here. We got here at about 1:00 and were seated quickly. The menu is quite extensive. The server pointed out the Kapsalon Beef as the best seller so we ordered that as well as a Dutch pancake with apple, bakon and cheese. It took 25 minutes to get our food and the restaurant was less than half full. The pancake was delivered cold, a problem I would have had them correct if our server ever came back to check on us. The loaded fries were hot and delicious. After hunting down our waitress when we were finished eating we mentioned that the pancake was delivered cold. She did not seem concerned but told me how to reheat the leftovers for later.  Total cost for the two food items and water came to $21.70. read more

This place is a masterpiece in itself! My mom, sister and I stopped by here and I was such in awe of how beautifully decorated this eatery is. We were seated at a couch/chair table and our lovely waitress Emily brought out drinks with a refill wine bottle - very "edgy." The menu is in another language, but the descriptions of all of the items are in English. Emily was so helpful in answering all of our questions about the items on the menu. My mom got the strawberry frisée salad with chicken. She said the salad was sour, but we explained to her that it was the vinaigrette, which she actually ended up enjoying. My sister got the Old Dutch pancake, which was essentially a monster crepe with apple cinnamon topping and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was an entree and dessert all in one and we cleaned plate! I got the kapsalon beef. Note: it's really big enough to serve 2! I've never had the combination of flavors: tender beef, cheese, pickled ketchup on top of a bed of seasoned fries, but they all worked together so well. Overall, this place is so lovely!
