Both are quite overpriced, I'd say at least $7-8 per person if you don't want the super small kiddie portion size. Both have good service. New City does have a cozier, friendlier vibe and while it's smaller inside than Toscanini's, you can more comfortably just chill there chatting with your friends on a hot summer day (both places have nice AC) if you felt like it. The most frustrating part is that my wife specifically wanted Raspberry Chip, which was only available in the $27 quart size. I would never have purchased a quart if that flavor had been available in a pint. To make matters worse, I didn't receive Raspberry Chip at all, making the purchase completely pointless. When I called the store, the young woman I spoke with said it wasn't their fault because they hadn't received the flavors in their shipment. While I understand inventory shortages happen, that is not the customer's responsibility. Good customer service means contacting the customer before substituting items or offering a refund--not sending completely different products without approval. I politely asked to speak with a manager or owner, but was told neither was available. Instead, I was instructed to find an email address on the company's website if I wanted help. That is not an acceptable way to handle a customer complaint. Running out of inventory is understandable. Failing to communicate, making unauthorized substitutions, providing no management support, and leaving the customer to chase down a resolution is not. This experience fell well below what I would expect, and unless the company makes this right, I cannot recommend ordering from this location.

We really wanted to give it a try, but every time we stopped by, we ran into some kind of complication. Ultimately, I'd recommend going to a traditional creamery instead, where you can sample flavors, speak directly with a helpful employee, and have your order made the way you want it.

Since I ordered chocolate, I expected the chocolate-berry mix to be brown, but it was a darker purple. The taste was the perfect mix of chocolate and blueberry. It seems like many fruit-flavored ice creams are vanilla-based. Since I enjoy chocolate, a chocolate-based blueberry flavor was refreshing! Happy this place is so close. What I can't stand is the service. The lady that worked there looked about as enthusiastic as a Prius mechanic, almost like she was doing me a favor. She was monotone and had the energy of a sloth. This actually took away from the ice-cream experience, as I walked out, not enjoying my scoop. I was almost angry. But I'll come back one more time with my kids, who are now in their 20s.
