Found New City Microcreamery on the Boston subreddit so we decided to check it out on our day in Cambridge. Came here around 12pm on a Saturday and it was not too busy, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. I sampled a bunch of flavors and ended up getting a kiddie scoop of Tres Leches. The sample had some nice caramel ribbons, but unfortunately the scoop itself tasted mostly like vanilla ice cream. It was well made, but not tres leches. I also prefer creamier ice cream, and this one leaned a little too icy for my taste. I don't think I would return
I had heard so much about this place and unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. None of the flavors I tried wowed me. I ended up choosing tres leches and it was my first time having a "dry" ice cream, the scoop I had was mostly vanilla wafer pieces and the ratio of actual ice cream was way off. The flavor ideas are great but execution was not there. I would stop in again if I were in the area but wouldn't go out of my way.

A local on the T recommended this local ice desk shop. My daughter ordered a scoop of the strawberry ice cream with real berries inside. My wife got the peppermint non-dairy one. My daughter loved hers. Overall, it was a fine ice cream but not earth shattering. There are places to sit and a clean restroom in the back.
Customer service was lovely! They were very patient with me as I was a first timer. I asked for samples and they gladly gave me some. The quality is very rich and creamy, as well as sweet. So if you have a sweet tooth this is a place worth trying out. However, it is pretty pricey. For one scoop of ice cream it's about $6 total. I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so I could pass on their ice cream in the future. Again, everything was great, it just comes down to preference. Based on my experience, I rate it a 4/5 because customer service was great! 1 star off because of what you get for the price.

I tried the Dubai Chocolate this time ... I'd say it's such an interesting combo of caramel, chocolate, and pistachio! The texture of it is so good. I wish I had a second stomach to eat more. The service was kind and patient with my eagerness to sample a few flavors. The ceiling is quite high, making it feel spacious in spite of the limited seating. It was a fun place to visit with dearly beloved friends!
Went at night with some friends. Wanted non-vegan chocolate ice cream but they were out when I arrived. Got the Nutella roche ice cream and chocolate sauce which was delicious. We got kicked out cuz they were closing but would come back if in the vicinity and craving ice cream
I love the Hudson location but was disappointed the most recent time I came to the Cambridge location-- I feel like the quality is different. My friend's salted caramel was burnt (sugar was burnt) and his hot fudge tasted burnt as well. The Dubai chocolate was named best by Boston Magazine 2025 so I got it sight unseen (without trying a sample) and was disappointed - it has whole pistachios vs. the shaved pieces in toffee in the chocolate bars. If you like pistachios (which I don't), you might like it though, but I wouldn't call it Dubai chocolate-like. My other friend got the Caramel Apple, which she said tasted more like salted caramel, with caramel syrup, which also tasted burnt. The coffee ice cream was delicious-- tasted like espresso. I like their sugar cones too. Service was good.
Didnt find anything special with this ice cream, (had vanilla bourbon and cake batter with rainbow sprinkles) and 2 scoops for $9 before tip was outrageous in my opinion. Restaurant was clean and staff was smiley so that's a win.
This is some of the best ice cream in Massachusetts. I got 3 samples and loved all of them. It was very hard to choose a flavor. My mom and I both got the tres leches because it was so good. They don't skimp on the mix ins. They have more interesting and unique flavors as well as all the classics. Definitely come here if you haven't yet.

It really embodied the taste of tres leches and there were small bits of cake in there as well. The menu was pretty extensive as they offer not only ice cream scoops, but drinks such as coffee too. I liked the variety of flavors that they offered -- they have some flavors that are seasonal. We were able to sample some flavors before making a decision. I felt like the texture was a little off, kind of like it had an icy consistency rather than creamy. Regardless, I liked the flavors we got, and I would come back to try some of the other flavors or menu items.

This was an extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. I ordered a pint of Tres Leches and a quart of Raspberry Chip. Instead, I received three pints of Salted Cookies & Cream, with a bag simply marked "Out of Tres Leches." There was no notification before my order was filled, no opportunity to choose a replacement, and no explanation until after I opened the order. The most frustrating part is that my wife specifically wanted Raspberry Chip, which was only available in the $27 quart size. I would never have purchased a quart if that flavor had been available in a pint. To make matters worse, I didn't receive Raspberry Chip at all, making the purchase completely pointless. When I called the store, the young woman I spoke with said it wasn't their fault because they hadn't received the flavors in their shipment. While I understand inventory shortages happen, that is not the customer's responsibility. Good customer service means contacting the customer before substituting items or offering a refund--not sending completely different products without approval. I politely asked to speak with a manager or owner, but was told neither was available. Instead, I was instructed to find an email address on the company's website if I wanted help. That is not an acceptable way to handle a customer complaint. Running out of inventory is understandable. Failing to communicate, making unauthorized substitutions, providing no management support, and leaving the customer to chase down a resolution is not. This experience fell well below what I would expect, and unless the company makes this right, I cannot recommend ordering from this location. read more

Item(s) ordered: small scoop, half bananas foster and half maple walnut Value: the going rate for ice cream these days Service: The servers were very accommodating with the free samples The Review: Why the poor review? Hear me out. If you have dietary restrictions, you may be fooled into getting sick. The allergens APPEAR to be listed, but then all of the scoopers are placed in a gross communal water bath in between scooping. I can't have gluten and I've been ill for almost 2 weeks since visiting. I already had the free samples unknowingly, so I decided on sunk cost and ate the ice cream. To be fair, it was effing delicious, so it's a shame that it's not accommodating to those of us with dietary needs and allergies. Worst part is the misrepresentation of safety practices. A plea to this New City: PLEASE fix your workflow. read more

A must-visit ice cream shop with so many unique flavors! And they allow samples as well, which I very much appreciate. I have tried their baklava (decent amount of baklava pieces) and usually get that. However, this time I decided to try tres leches which is one of my favorite desserts. And I now have a new favorite flavor!! It was creamy, not too sweet, with flavors of butterscotch and caramel. The workers are always nice and willing to give recommendations. There are only a few tables but you can sit outside (when it's not too cold). I will be back for sure! read more
Flavors - 4.3/5 Textures - 4.5/5 Presentation - 3.5/5 Value for Money - 3.5/5 I was surprised by how good this was - rich flavors with a creamy but light texture. Could eat huge amounts without getting tired. Just the right level of sweetness. I also loved that it melts slowly, giving me more time to eat it. Baklava flavor is AMAZING, so original and actually tastes like baklava. Even the vanilla was great and made with fresh vanilla. Prices and/or portion sizes could improve. read more

Family discovered New City, and despite my imposed avoidance of sugar (not my natural state), I chose the smallest possible scoop size to try. There are many complex and fancy flavors--Dubai chocolate, which seems to be everywhere lately, was a new addition to their menu but I preferred a timeless classic: their version of mint chocolate chip and a personal childhood favorite. It's no wonder this is a popular neighborhood ice cream shop--the ice cream is almost intensely creamy: smooth, rich, with a noticeable absence of water crystals due to their flash-freezing process. I had hoped to return before an upcoming trip, but now it will be something to look forward to in a few weeks. Thanks, New City, for keeping the classics on the menu even when trends lean toward more elaborate choices. Don't think it goes unnoticed--it's deeply appreciated. Tip: Parking is central square difficult. Best to walk if it's not heat stroke weather. read more

Good Nice place. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Huge variety and those I've never seen before Kudos. Not too sweet and just enough flavor to enjoy Bad. Consistency. Very icy. I mean it was like eating sand. I could tell there was a creamery back to it and if you let it melt in your mouth the feel softens but the first pass takes away from all the good. Probably water is getting added from the scoops or blenders having residual water left in them. Easy fix. Management should try that. Others noticed the ice too. I got Peanut butter banana fluff. Great idea for a flavor but Did not see or taste any peanut butter Look at the picks all the shiny bits are ice flecks. read more

I got there at 9 PM on a Saturday, and it was packed, but luckily, we found seats. They have free water. The ice cream is really rich; I liked the Tiramisu better than the Baklava. The total was $9, which I think is a fair price for the unique and rich flavors. read more
This ice cream shop has a large variety of space themed artwork and an even larger selection of ice cream flavors. Very dangerous if I lived close by. None the less I might keep this in mind the next time I am around. One mighty chocolate pb mashup - I do like my PB and chocolate ice cream and this one was no exception. It was a good homogenous mix of PB flavors with chocolate ribbons. Would recommend if you can consume peanuts. read more

Yum this place was delicious! They had some yummy new fall flavors like apple crisp and pumpkin and they were generous with samples and questions. I got the peanut butter brownie flavor which was so so good. My husband had the chiller bee which was a honey ice cream. We both loved our flavors. Service was friendly. It was a great summer night walking around Central Square. I came across a long line of people waiting for some ice cream outside of this store. Ice cream sounded great so I waited on line. Everything went by quickly. They offer their standard ice cream flavors and a couple in house specials. I ordered the Grasshopper which was two scoops in a cup. Some people ordered more or opted for an ice cream shake. There is a seating area outside for you to relax and enjoy your ice cream. Tonight was mostly filled with new college students but this place is usually packed regardless of the night. read more
