In a perfect world, we leave the big box stores behind and only shop at stores that care like Ace Hardware. This particular location on Tropicana at Durango is so much larger than meets the eye. I loved the personal service here, the organized rows, and the well-curated selection of merchandise. I originally went there for Car Key Duplicates (which are the best deal here, skip the dealership!) and left with an armload of goodies you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Ginger Chews, Sarsaparilla, and beeswax and who knows what else? It all felt very Pacific Northwest or a caring hardware store I used to frequent in West Hollywood. I will be back on my next home project and for basic maintenance supplies, too. This Ace location is ACE and lovely. Pleasant shopping experiences make a difference. This place is absolute trash! Went in back in October for some Traeger pellets and the customer service is awful, you can't get a hello or a thank you from anyone behind the register. You can get harassed by the solar saleswoman behind the desk who won't leave you alone though. Went again this week for more pellets after telling myself not to give this place business. I should've known better! Woman behind the register just sitting there paying more attention to her cellphone, male employees in back yelling and shouting profanity while I had my grandkid with me. March 31st my husband and I to travel to Las Vegas to make a repair on my mothers home. Went to Van Marks hardware and was Surprisingly greeted ( never happens in SD) by Melissa ,even with her mask on, you could tell she had a huge smile on her face. I Explained my plumbing situation and she walked me over to Bob and Alec in the plumbing department. Bob and Alec also greeted me with huge smiles and were very pleasant. They were more than willing to help me figure out what I needed. They were able to figure out from my explanation of the thingamajig that goes in the thingamajig under the sink.They knew Exactly what I needed. It was nice not to have to return to the store multiple times to get the right parts. Also , I was impressedwith how clean the store was and organized. Bob and Alec knew exactly where everything was. As I left Melissa checked in with me again to make sure I was able to find what I needed for the repair on my mothers home . The staff is definitely Five Star employees. The service we received was excellent. We went in and purchased a Traeger BBQ, we were greeted with a very friendly and knowledgeable Juan Sequeira. He was also the one, along with Tommy, that delivered the BBQ and set it up the very next day. We cannot say enough about his customers service. Really not impressed with my experience at this ACE today. I went in for 20x25x1 ace brand air filters (an extremely common one) and they only had 1 left so I asked the associate at the front who is texting on his phone and he says whatever is out is all they have. I thought it was odd that they only had one filter for an extremely common size. I was going to get it since I was already there but I had an ace gift card and the girl told me they don't accept ace gift cards which is very strange to me because I have this from a return at the southern highlands store. My family has owned an Ace for 30+ years on the east coast and that's why I shop at Ace and not the box stores but I highly recommend the Ace in Southern Highlands over this location. read more

Was near this store and had some time to kill, so went to see if they had the PVC ball valves I need. Saw four employees, none of which asked if they could help. The store was disorderly compared to my neighborhood Ace (Southern Highlands). As I browsed the shelves, three employees at the parts counter were discussing that the Ravens would play the Raiders. In the span of under one minute in a nearby aisle, I heard three F-bombs and a couple of "lesser" curse words. Not professional, at all and no reaction or even change in conversation when they realized I was nearby. You'd think they were at a backyard BBQ. My neighborhood Ace in Southern Highlands has a well-organized store and people who know how to behave in the workplace. I decided my purchase could wait until I got home. I left with nothing, including any acknowledgement that I'd ever been there. Show us that you're better than the big box store and you'll win our business. read more

First of all, I love small family-owned hardware stores. These places have things that you can't find at big box stores -- one of which is team members who really care about making sure customers are happy. I was referred to this location for window screen repair, and I am so happy that I checked them out. I took my screen in and they were thorough and got my replacement ordered. They informed me that they were backed up and it would be approximately 4 weeks. In 2 weeks I had a call from them and picked up a brand spanking new screen which was made to perfection. I highly recommend this Ace for screen repair/replacement at a reasonable cost. read more

I used to love Ace Hardware.........when I lived in California. Although it wasn't as big as Home Depot, it was a clean, organized store with awesome customer service. All of the employees wanted to help you and were very knowledgeable. I only came here to buy gift cards. As soon as I walked in, the cashier in the front greeted me. I walked up to the register and told her that I wanted to purchase 2 gift cards. Then she replied "Oh, I don't know how to ring up gift cards. Let me call my manager." Fail! How did she not know how to do this? Then I thought okay, maybe she's a new employee. When the manager came over, he walked her through the process on the register. Then realized that they did it wrong. Fail again! So then they pulled out an old looking "manual" from the drawer and followed the instructions. Success! Finally, after 15 minutes of waiting. I can't believe the manager didn't even know how to ring up the gift cards! Even though I didn't shop here, the store looked organized. There was also a small Hawaiian snack area in the front by the registers. I am giving them 3 stars because they were nice and apologized about the whole situation. read more

Had to change ny review from 5 to 1 stars because there is someone in an Ace staff shirt running a scam on the parking lot. He profiles handicaps and then accuses them of having caused a scratch on his car. In my case he failed because I am always extremely careful not slamming other cars (being a car enthusiast knowing how much damage it could cause) and if I did anyway I would know and compensate the owner. In this case our car was at a good distance from the Ace Hardware car. Besides we were parked between his car and the store so even if it did happen, how could he have seen it? And there was no mark on my car corresponding to the one on his. I am sure there are a lot of people on crutches not caring if they scratch other cars, but I am sure as h*ll not one of them!!! I wonder how much cash they get on the side running this scam. Not coming to Ace ever again as long as they have hustlers running the show. read more

I had never walked into an Ace Hardware store before. I needed a few things and in 114 degree weather I didn't feel like driving all the way to a competitor so I stepped inside. SO HAPPY I did. It's a great store, really easy to navigate and it has very competitive prices. I was specifically looking for an extending paint rolling pole and a ladder. I found both at prices that were under their competitors price and a bunch more things I needed for the house. The staff was A M A Z I N G, so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. As a woman I much preferred this experience to the "other" guy that is so big I get lost in. Granted this is a much smaller store but when you need the basics, why waste the gas to go to the warehouse store? I am so glad they opened up in this neighborhood!!! read more

The smaller privately owned stores have your best interest in mind. They have items nobody else does and the service is far above expectations. Visited this store due to product on sale which was not in stock and revisited on following Monday because I was told that is when trucks deliver. Alas no product. Discussed with JoJo at front desk and decided that I would order item and she was gracious, efficient and ordered my product. The order was filled next day, went to pick up and JoJo remember me and welcomed me to pick up order. Both ladies at the desk were very cordial and made you feel special. I am a huge supporter of small local business. I don't know if this falls in that category. I like the fact the Ace is closer then either Lowe's or Home Depot but plan on paying 2 to 3 times what you'd pay at the larger Hardware stores. I am a Handy man so I need to go to the Hardware store 5 to 6 times a week. My last visit wasn't to pleasant. I needed 4 standard L brackets and a flexible P trap for a sink. The L brackets are around 1.50 at Home Depot, The Ace Hardware charges nearly 6 bucks a piece The flexible P trap 4 dollars. Ace Charges near 9 bucks. A bag of thin set is also double the price. Ace should do something like the price Home Depot has with a 50% mark up. The price should never be double or Triple that is ridiculous. read more

Keys! Seriously, I will never go any where else for copies of keys. Not just for the quality but the customer service that comes with it! Rowell, the manager, literally improved the quality of my life this past Saturday. Not an exaggeration. I had only one original key with fob for my car. I lost it. Yep. My sister had a copy so I retrieved her key. Took it to Home Depot and had two copies made. Drove back home using her key. When I tried to use HD keys, I had to jiggle until - if lucky - it worked. But then, my sister's copy started acting up too. I drove for two days with three keys, hoping one would start the car up. Crazy way to live. I finally made my way to Ace on Cheyenne Av. Rowell made me a copy. He came out to the car with me to make sure it worked. It started the car but not easily. So he went back and fine tuned it. Back to the car, all the way smiling. It was better (don't forget what he was working with). A bit more fine tuning and presto! He made me another copy (that was right on the money the first time) and didn't charge for his first attempt (that he made super right after the fine tune). Rowell's customer service went beyond what I expected and the entire time his positive and friendly attitude brightened my afternoon - plus being able to start my car each time with the first try! Just as it should be. I asked Rowell what make ACE keys better than Home Depot. He said HD uses a machine that "copies" the key. At Ace, thee place, they do it the old fashion way. With the expert manipulating a machine just right to make you the perfect key. Why go anywhere else? (I also bought other things I needed while there. All good!) read more

Great place! Great help! I couldn't find any place in town to cut these motorcycle keys I needed. Brian took the time and ea. Key he cut he walked out side and checked that it worked. Because I had a set of keys cut and re cut by several different employees and they never worked. I ended up throwing them away. Brian was the only one that was able to make them work. Walked into Ace Hardware, we were greeted and helped immediately. I was looking for this piece that holds the closet shelf onto the wall, the man who helped us knew exactly where it was and walked me right to it in less than 2 minutes. I'll never go to any other hardware store! Fast easy and convenient!! I had the worst experience at Home Depot yesterday, they are not helpful and borderline racist don't even spend your money at Home Depot!!! Be careful. I had a shady experience with this company. I order online for a pick up at the store. Never got email confirmation to go pick up order. They charged my card and then refunded a week later. I emailed to see what happen. They just decided to cancel order without ever telling me. They still had the time in stock on line and still selling online. It makes no sense. It makes me feel like they are just getting your credit card info. Maybe they are going out of business soon and just racking up on people's credit card information. I don't know. It just felt shady. I wouldn't suggest buying anything online for them. read more

Build, destroy, grow or clean hardware store. Located on Cheyenne and Rampart in the strip mall near Albertsons, CVS, Little Caesars and Einstein Bagels it's pretty hard to miss. I've been coming to Ace Hardware for odds and ends since it opened a few years back. The building before was a furniture joint that seemed to be always empty. When Ace opened I was sure this location would be a hit with sun city and Desert Shores community close by. Due to the distance from my house, Ace provides products that I might need on the fly like screws, Chlorine etc, but I cannot recommend Ace Hardware for anything else. The prices are a lot higher than places like Lowes or Home Depot. The selection of products are also extremely limited with most of the time either being out of stock or odd measurements. The service isn't crash hot either. When they first opened the service was great, but in the past 12 months they have a big change over in staff and it seems like it's all gone a bit down hill. A good example was they had a line of customers, maybe 4 deep and only had one register opened, with 4 other staff members standing around the main desk talking about their weekends. This review is for our first trip to this store to purchase a few items for our house from the paint, garden, electric light bulb, and wall fastener sections. I have always been an Ace Hardware fan and when my husband needed some special hinged hangers for his art work, I suggested this store. It is not close by but I do recall that the experiences I had with Arizona, California, and Wisconsin Ace stores were positive. We actually found someone who knew in which aisle we could find the elusive clips and then a person right nearby who helped out with the choice. We found some bulbs, some garden items such as seeds, vermiculite, plant pot dish, and tools from the sale bin as well. We like that we have not had to sprint 1/4 mile to the nearest customer service individual and that the staff seem appreciate the choice to go there. Way to go, Ace!! read more

They have a great selection of individual nuts and bolts to sell I mean it is huge. For my needs Ace is definitely the place! I need to fix the sink in my bathroom and it appears to be in my skill set so I ordered the parts I needed online for pick up at this location. This was my first experience with Ace. What I like about it over the larger home improvement stores is the couple times I have been inside the store is their customer service. So far it has not been an issue to walk around and hope to run into a sales associate because they are easy to find at the front of the store. The ones I've encountered have been friendly and able to answer my questions. Also, being that it is on the smaller side it's just easier to get what you need and get out, and the prices are in line with Home Depot or Lowes. read more

Nothing like getting home to put my new window screens that DONT FIT! They are AGAIN the incorrect size! After giving the correct size, two different times I will not pay to replace them. Soooo happy to find this Ace Hardware on Cheyenne near Durango. I really dread going to the huge home improvement stores. Especially, when I just need a basic item. Walked in, everything was clearly priced and located in easy to find aisles without having to walk the length of a football field. Employees were helpful and courteous. Grabbed the saw I was looking for, paid, and left in under 10 minutes. Prices didn't seem out of line and the quality appeared better than most stores offer.
