True was the guy that cut my hair and I will never go back to that salon again. He did the worst job that anyone has ever done, I had to go to Great Clips to fix what he did. He showed me a picture of a style I wanted then botched it completely. I have never been so insulted in my life. He was weird too, and kept talking about Krampus the German Santa that scares kids. Why does this business give stylists 10-20% raises, while corporate America maybe offers 1-3%? Name an enhancement to the salon or product offering that justifies that raise. And a haircut for women - even a basic trim - starts at $70/hr. Now - 3% charge to use a credit card - why? I'm expected to have $300 cash with me - after we all were asked to be used to a cash-less experience during-/post-COVID? The salon at the Avenue at East Cobb is my salon for multiple reasons. First, I completely trust my colorist, Aimee France, to do a fantastic job for base color, highlights or special requests like adding a touch of bolder color. In addition, the staff at the desk are attentive, kind and helpful. The salon always appears clean, the hair dryer / warmers are delightful and the neck supplet at the sink is so appreciated. And I can get a good cup of coffee or water! Sure it may be more costly but it's worth it. read more

I loved this salon! I had an amazing experience with Devon. He's super sweet and funny. His conversation and phenomenal massages made it all the more enjoyable. He did a fantastic job on my natural, highly textured, coily hair. He was very invested in my experience and me in general! The whole appointment was very professional and COVID friendly (masks worn by employees and clients the entire time, plastic barriers between all chairs and wash bowls, and sanitizing of areas after every service). Went for hair cut and highlights on Jun 25. Got my hair chopped off, I'm very unhappy what the hairdresser did. Try to wear it straight, or curly but unfortunately it's looks horrible. Terrible customer service!! I missed my haircut appointment as they did not send me either a text or a phone reminder of my appointment yet charged my credit card for the full amount. I showed the store manager my mobile call logs to prove that they didn't infact call me yet they falsely claimed they left me a voice mail and it was my fault. This seems to a new technique to dupe customers -- Dont call or remind customers and hope they miss the appointment so you don't have to provide service but can charge them for no show. I am making a formal complaint to BBB. read more

This is a beautiful salon at The Avenue in E. Cobb. Unfortunately I have had my hair cut by three different stylists there and not one knew how to cut curly hair. Does no one in the state of Georgia know how to cut curly hair? Do they only teach how to cut straight hair? The lady that does the eye brow waxing is very good, but the rest of them suck. On two occasions I tried booking an appointment. Once, I went there in person and the ladies at the register wouldn't even look at me! They attended to people who came after me though.... Even when one of them did talk to me, they were totally disinterested and of course, they didn't have an opening. I called up again today, hoping to give them another chance. After asking all sorts of questions about my hair, they said they didn't have anyone available. If you don't have anyone available, can't you check earlier, before asking me a zillion questions that have nothing to do with availability of a hairdresser? Come on!!!! read more

This is a great hair salon. I moved here from Chicago's Northshore 5 years ago and worried about finding a new place for my hair style needs. I landed at Van Michael and have been very, very happy. Specifically they have met my every need. I like the New Talents people a lot. I am a senior citizen and the prices with the New Talents folks are very comfortable for me. Specifically I use Presley for my hair color. She gets it right every time. When I observed a bit too much red in my color she added a magic potion....My color is rich, has depth and is very flattering. I use Lela for my hair cuts. She is a "technician" when it comes to hair cuts. I have a very full head of straight hair. She puts enough layers in to create an interesting look. I love both Presley and Lela. read more

I recently moved to Atlanta and needed a color and cut. I got a recommendation from a friend for a private stylist. That didn't work out. I saw the Van Michael salon, and that it was an Aveda salon, so I believed it would be great. My first color appointment made things better, but still was not quite right. Since it was the first try, I went back to get it fixed. It still wasn't quite right, but I waited for six weeks and went back. I told Nieves the roots were too dark, so he made them darker, then told me to come back for highlights. I made the appointment. As for the cut, I told Freddie I wanted layers and NOT short in back/long in front. I got a blunt bob, short in back, long in front. That doesn't work on curly hair. I made another appointment with him at the same time as the color fix. When I arrived for that appointment, they didn't have me on the books AT ALL. I guess I'll have to go back to Dallas, TX for a decent cut and color. Here are some suggestions: 1. When the client says "all over dark blonde", that doesn't mean brown roots and light ends. 2. When the client says "it's too dark", DON'T MAKE IT DARKER. 3. When the client says, "NOT short in back and long in front", DON'T CUT IT SHORT IN BACK AND LONG IN FRONT. 4. When the client asks for layers, DON'T DO A BLUNT CUT. 5. If you don't know how to cut curly hair, ASK FOR HELP. Do you have any recommendations for someone who is competent to do a cut and color for someone with curly hair? read more

I made an appointment last Saturday to get my bob hair cut trimmed and re-vamped some layers placed, I expressed concern because I have had not good experiences in the past, that if this cut could not be done to just tidy up the ends, Devon assured me that he could without a doubt cut my hair like the picture I showed and stated it will look great, so I let him proceed, he was going crazy just cutting and cutting, my hair was getting shorter and shorter, I could not see what he was doing in the back and I started to get very nervous and fidgety, I am sure he could see my concerns, at this point I should of told him to stop however I did not want to interfere as he is supposed to be the professional, he ended up cutting the back of my hair in a pixie cut not the bob I asked for and the sided were left long, but did not match the back of my hair, I was absolutely horrified, I was so mad, I told him if you could not do what I asked you should not have attempted the hair cut, he just stated I did my best? and its hard to cut hair on a fidgety person. I was shaking and in tears, he destroyed my hair which will now take months to grow, back and I am forced to find a hair dresser to cut my hair into a pixie cut so it does not look hideous while it is growing out, not the layered bob I asked for? Do not go to Devon for a hair cut he is really bad, and does not listen, he is rude and arrogant. read more

I have never written a review of anywhere bc I very rarely have experiences worth talking about. I normally get along with people and have good experiences. I have never, in my life, walked out of a place and refused to work with someone- until today. I wanted highlights for some pictures I have coming up. I was scheduled with Julio. He came and got me, and immediately asked if I had box color (he referred to it as the devil) and I said yes, but I just do my roots. It's been about 6 weeks. He told me he wasn't comfortable doing my hair and asked me to sign a form that it may not come out good. I told him I've had it done 100 times, and I wasn't worried. I agreed to sign the form, but was starting to get frustrated because he kept lecturing me about using color on my hair. Like a lot. He then went and got the manager (who was wonderful) and I told her the same- that I'd sign the form. When he was filling out the form, he put that I had color 2N on my hair. Well, I dye it, so I knew it was 4N, so before I signed it, I told him that, and he told me it looked like 2 to him, and wouldn't change it. He had on the form that it would take at least 3 more appts (135 each)Starting to get frustrated, I asked him the process because I've had my hair done a lot of times even with color already on it, and it's never been this huge of a process. He told me I wouldn't understand because it was complicated colorist stuff. I told him I was leaving because I didn't trust him to do my hair. read more

This place sucks. I went to get my hair done for prom with a hairdresser that I have gotten my hair cut by many times. I booked the appointment with her specifically over a month in advance, and when I showed up, they said my appointment was with some dude named Nieve. When I told them I booked my appointment with my hairdresser specifically and explained the situation, the receptionist (and later manager) continued to insist that my appointment was with Nieve and that my hairdresser was busy so she couldn't do my hair. Not one sorry or offer to an alternate solution was given. Rather do my own hair than pay way to much for some random guy to do it. I love it here! I have never had a bad experience with any of the employees and have always left feeling satisfied. At first I thought it was a little a pricy, however it is very much so worth it and I can't imagine getting my hair cut anywhere else! I typically get my haircut by True, who is so amazing and sweet, but I have also had my hair styled by other employees and had a similarly great experience. I have never waited more than five minutes to begin my appointment so the salon is very respectful of your time. I've had my haircut elsewhere and felt pressured to buy products they sponsor, but suggestions at Van Michael are made personally to your hair type and needs yet done so very casually and I never feel as though I am being advertised to or forced to buy something. I highly suggest booking an appointment here and honestly can't think of a single complaint I have about the salon or employees! read more

I love this salon! I have been going for about two years now and plan on continuing to go for a long time. Great staff and I have never been unhappy with a haircut there. Love that the stylists take the time to make you look your best before you walk out the door. I am new to the Marietta area. I chose Van Michael because I previously used their salon on West Paces many years ago, and I loved them. I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed I am with my visit to the Marietta location. Even though I expressed how much I like dimension in my color--Erika did not seem to understand. When I got out of her chair, my hair looked like I went to the clairol section of Walgreens and chose Ash Blonde. My cut was by one of their top stylists, Jeffery. I really liked his personality which is why it kills me to state this, but I cannot do one thing with my hair. This is by far one of the worst cuts I think I've ever received. My total bill was 278.00! I do not mind paying this if I love my hair, but I love nothing about it. I called and complained to the salon manager about my color. She then scheduled me with her top colorist for no additional charge-- I believe her name was Candace. I liked her-- but even after showing her pictures of what I wanted and expressing my desire for dimension. Once again, I left there with BLAH color! My hair is EXTREMELY DAMAGED! I have waited for weeks to post this review so that I was not a hot head. I truly believe they should refund my money. However, I did not ask them for it. I am so disappointed in this salon. For me, their reputation is tarnished, and I certainly would not recommend. read more

If only I could give this salon a higher rating! I definitely lucked out when I called Van Michael Salon in East Cobb. It was a couple days before Thanksgiving and I wanted to get a balayage service. The girl at the front desk... I think her name was Ashley, was very helpful and understanding with my last minute appointment making. Ashley asked all the right questions, and made sure I knew where their location was and who I would be scheduled with. Bette was my colorist. Hands down thee best hair service Ive ever gotten. Bette knew exactly what I wanted and gave me a play by play of what she was doing as the service progressed. I'm a dark brunette who wanted to go pretty blonde. Bette did exactly that- no brassiness, no orange, no bs. If I was a permanent resident of GA, this place- and Bette would be my go to's no doubt. I called for a color appointment with the new talent. I was quite excited to do my hair color for the first time. They called me the same day about two hours before the appointment to tell me that the new talent scheduled to do my hair called out sick and I was quite dissappointed that they couldnt get me in there the same day with someone else. After seeing they had no other opening at any other location they rescheduled me way far out but with a professional which they said they would charge me at new talent price. I accepted and when I went in at 4pm, the professional colorist did not know I had long hair and told me he could not color all of it. On top of that, the difference in price was only $20 bucks?! I did not like how my hair color came out and they rushed the whole process since they closed at 6! I ended up paying for something I did not expect or like and I left with my hair wet since they rushed the whole drying process.
