Whenever I come into this nail salon I always ask how long I will have to wait and they always lie. For example, today I asked them how long it would take and they said I didn't need to wait that they could take me now. They showed me my nail options and then I waited 10 minutes to be seated at the station because they were still busy doing nails. For $25 for a gel manicure (not including tip) I could've done this myself. The younger woman who did my nails was in such a rush to do them. She left brush strokes on my finished nails and didn't do a very good job overall. Next time I will ask for the older woman with the glasses. This place is conveniently located, right down the hill from my house. I've never really frequented any place in the area except for safeway, and I've lived here for over 20 years ever since I was little. Oops. Anyways, the place is cheap. 20 bucks for a pedicure, 10 bucks for a manicure. Then the pedicure and manicure combo is 30 bucks...which is THE SAME PRICE if you would just get the two things separately which doesn't make sense, but that's besides the point. The water: perfect. not scalding hot and not too cold like most places. The place is kind of worn down, but..i mean, it's Rodeo. There's a cute little kid that runs around the place, I think her name is Sophie or Sophia. Anyhooz, she's a cutie. She just walks around and plays. She might make you hold her. No big deal. She's adorable. So why 3 stars and not 4? Well, I had an older gentleman who did my nails, they were done alright. It's just... my left toe is hurting a LOT. He was using the scissor tool to clean up the sides and he must have made a mistake or just did a little bit too much because it hurt a little as he did it...but today, 1 day later my left toe is kind of swollen and it actually hurts. I have a high tolerance of pain, but I tapped my toe on my car when getting in and it hurt so much I actually had to breathe deep and take a few seconds for it to go down. I slathered my toe in neosporin and took an antiinflammatory in hopes that the swelling (it's red and swollen) to go down. It could be because he worked on it and it just got irritated (i've done that before...kind of but not this bad). I am praying to jesus it's not infected, which kind of crossed my mind because the place wasn't spic and span and it doesn't seem like they cleaned or sterilized their tools much. Luckily I was probably one of the first ones in the morning so hopefully that tool wasn't used on a million other women's feet before mine. Otherwise then, i'll have an infection, not an irritation. I will update or edit this later to tell the results. For the record, my right foot feels okay. and it didn't hurt when he cut it or cut the cuticle on the right side. I absolutely love coming here. I moved from San Francisco 2 years ago, went to the same nail place since I was 13 and so stressed about finding a closer place. Van has never let me down. I'm a bartender and plenty of chores at home and I explained this to him and I've literally never had a broken nail, unless I posed the time of me needing a fill. I move boxes of beer, liquor, wash dishes, laundry and cleaning everything in my house all week. I have gone almost a month without a fill and never had a broken nail. And getting the shape just right is an art in itself but when Van does my nails they stay longer than any other place I've been to which is many so far. This is not my favorite place for pedicures. Looking to get your eyebrows done?? RHIS IS NOT THE PLACE !!! First off, there set up area was in there break room on a chair . (Should or known off the first red flag) second , I've grown my eyebrows for 3 months and asked for a nice shape and clean ! Just not to make them to thin ! I really wanted to love it, thanks to the few really good reviews, but I just didn't. Here's why.. I'm not judging - the place is a bit older and not all suped up like most of the nicer nail places around here but I have been to some amazing nail places that aren't fully decorated and I've also been to shitty nail places that look like they'd be amazing - so this all didn't bother me that much. What DID bother me was the old equipment, dried out nail polish selection and the fact that I saw no sanitation process between clients. The chair I got in wasn't even cleaned out after the last client, but I didn't realize that til I had already stepped foot in it. No worries, first time here, I needed an open mind. (So if I get an infection, I'll let you know, but so far, so good.) I also didn't see tools being sanitized either. I legit saw her go from client to client. Despite old equipment and a ragged nail polish selection, it's a rule to sanitize things - you are a business and I assume you received training for that Nail Tech certificate. I didn't go to beauty school, but I work in the industry. I cannot stress the importance of sanitation enough! But I guess that's just me? They definitely lose a star for lack of cleanliness. Not to mention, their counter behind the massage chairs are decorated with water bottles and oh, hai! There's a random adult-sized shoe behind one massage chair... My next issue... you are lucky your kid is cute because if not, I would have disciplined her myself for crying that much in public in front of my customers! She's barely 2 years old and it honestly didn't bother me that there's toys and baby stuff everywhere. What bothered me was the fact that she interrupted my service with her fake crying and distracted my nail tech from focusing on what she was doing on me. Can you clean my cuticles and not cut my skin, please? Thanks. A legit 10-15min straight of her fake crying! My ears are bleeding! :/ and I LOVE kids - I even helped run a daycare! So if even I don't have patience for your kid, that says a lot! My nail tech kept going away to take care of her, but couldn't be polite enough to say "excuse me" or "I'm sorry". She left me for a good 10min with my feet half cleaned. Just chillin.. waiting on her. -_- Haha. Another customer told me "She does that. Get used to it if you plan on coming back" - wth? What kind of customer service is this? And I work in retail, so I'm all about clients being happy. Can you imagine how i felt? Lol.. i mean, babies are babies, they're gonna get fussy, I get it - but for the sake of your business and your customers, you either handle your kid OR your business - not both at the same time. For me, that's unprofessional. Otherwise, I didn't mind her being there just hanging out or whatever, but when she's taking away from your service/business, that's not ok. Note: Both my Mom's service and mine were rushed and not as "amazing" as I would have expected with all the reviews I read for this place. The wait time was horrible.. I wasn't really trippin at the time, I had nowhere to go after, but if I did, I'd be upset. I had an appt for 530p and didn't get started on for an hour. I could have walked in and it probably would have been the same thing. Another girl came in at 6 for her appt and still hadn't been sat down when I left at 715 or so. There were 3 of them that day, I don't know if that's normal, but one of them had to take care of the baby at some point cuz she was going bananas. I saw 4 certificates on the wall, so maybe there's another person? If you need a place that can service you within a time frame, maybe come in when it's suuuper slow because setting an appt made no difference for me. :( I am, of course, factoring in many things here before making my final decision on this place, lol.. maybe Sophia (the baby) was extra fussy today and I caught her on a bad day? Maybe their other nail person was off so they were short of people? Maybe they aren't making much money so they haven't invested in new supplies? My massage wasn't as amazing as some of you experienced, perhaps she was distracted by a shrieking baby? Lol.. My toes look pretty for $20 (additional $4 tip), but my experience didn't blow me away enough to come back or be excited for my next visit. I'd much rather pay $18 for my usual spot in Pinole and have less interruption, better nail polish choices, cleanliness and pristine service (maybe even for some courtesy that this place seemed to lack)... #butthatsjustme P.S.: I told them specifically that I had never been there and was recommended by a friend - they did nothing to make my experience any better than what their normal regulars experience. i am still recovering from the cuts and anxiety after coming to this place yesterday... i walk in and i asked for a pedicure. the girl told me to pick my color and have a seat. as i put my feet in the water, i immediately took them right out... the temperature of the water must of been what you would use when u are boiling eggs! then she used that sharp pointy tool and started digging in around my nails. i was trying to be polite and tell her it was hurting.... then she started cutting around the nails.. once she started cutting my skin and i told her to stop... i said it in so many ways, "it hurts" "ur 2 hard" "please be soft!" she needed her manager to walk over and translate... it was the most painful thing ever the massage... she then mocked me and asked if my massage HURT!? then all of a sudden she started punching my legs!! that started hurting! she cleaned off my nails with nail polish remover or alcohol... it was burning my toes because of the cuts she did !! she never removed the wet towel when it was time to paint my nails! after i paid, she said SEE YOU NEXT TIME! ive never experienced this trauma before @ a nail shop. and i will NEVER come back to this place!! read more

I had a appointment with Van at Van Nails and I arrived five min early.He had a walk in that he started a full nail set. I greeted Van and said I am here since he never knowledge me when I walked in and sat down. The place is dirty, dusty,over flowing old magazines next to the nail dryer, dirty bathroom and bathroom sink was not working. Lots of toys all around the shop. their daughter Sophia which is 3 years old and out of control riding her bike around the shop bumping into other customers. Van is the only one that does the nails (sometimes theirs another quite nice lady that is new on doing nails which I don't recommend.) and is very rude (as well his wife that does the pedi care) how they talk and treat the customers. You can't ask how much is a cut down or and gel or regular nail color in a break down because they make up the prices. I saw them (as I waited for an hour because he started a "walk in" right before my appointment) give two different prices. If you look at the posted prices are on the wall far away from the register on the left side of the wall where the other old nail polish colors are.... it was different from what they are charging the customers. Van is not consistent on doing the nails properly he will rush and mess up your nail and yell " that's how your nail is". Lots of the customers were upset with him how he didn't keep up with his appointments and had to wait or walk out. Van nails is lacking professionalism, customer service, cleanliness. They needed to be reported to the council of Better Business Bureaus. I DO NOT Recommend Van nails its horrible!!!! read more

I feel bad posting a negative review, maybe I just had an unlucky experience and others could like this place... I went in for a pedicure because I have a friend that likes to go here... She says because they massage your feet longer than a lot of places. I hadn't had a pedicure in a long time so I'm sure she thought she had to go hard on me but she cut my big toe nail SOOOO short, and she was digging under my nail and being very rough. It hurt sooooo bad, I said ouch over and over and tried to communicate but it got worse. I complained and she basically disagreed with me and told me it would look better tomorrow... After she finished that foot she said, oh wow it's really red. No shit!! I told her it was too short and she caused me so much pain with the digging under my nail and not to do the other toe like that... Van is fantastic at doing nails BUT the reason I'm giving them a one star is because every time I've gone here, I call in advanced EVERY TIME to make sure they have time for me. I come in a few minutes before my appointed time but they never get to me on time. I'm not saying they make me wait like 10-15 minutes, most of the time I end up waiting more or less an hour. It's really fucking frustrating because I love the nails but the waiting time is not cool. The people are very nice but it was REALLY awkward when I came in. There was no music so it was really quiet. When I came in they said a small 'hello' and waited for me to talk as I was waiting for the "how may I assist you" greeting. The guy who did my nails didn't really seem to know what he was doing and the nail polishes he was using all had those gooey strings that kept getting caught on my nails -_- He also put thick layers of the nail polish which of course bubbled and resulted in cracked polish the next day. I must say he did my french tips in a nice angle but they didn't last long =( My nails have bubbles in them and they're all cracked (it hasn't even been 24 hours) The place is very simple but nice. I am no longer a client at Van's because there's a better option 2 doors down now. The last manicure I had done at Van's was awful. Horrendous wait time wven though I was told 10 minutes. I was told 10 *more* minutes every 10 minutes. When I finally did get my manicure started the woman doing it was less than gentle. She was also easily distracted and got up numerous times. The "massage" was a joke...and she messed up the gel on one nail and had the nerve to act put out when I showed her the mistake. Please don't come here during Covid. Super unsanitary & they reuse the same files, brushes, tools ect without sanitizing. Van had a client when I came for my appointment. I was called a minute after they were done. Didn't prep/clean tools or sanitize seats/area or table, I got nail glue under my skin and on the sides. The tips were on crooked and i asked him if he could redo it. He said no your finger is crooked, let me file it and it will look straight. I told him its still not straight he said itll look better with color. im already mad at this point. I bled as he filed my nails on the side. Mind you, he's using a dirty file used on previous client. I didnt say anything. I was upset. He rushed during the whole application. My nails were still lumpy and he was asking for a color and i said none i felt bad but i got charged 50+still tipped bc i know small business are struggling. i ended up finishing up on my own and fixing it. dont come here if youre picky and want to be listened to! read more

I love Van's. I have been there several times in the last month or so. I always have both the manicure and pedicure. At $30 it is very fairly priced. They give you a great leg and foot massage. They listen to you if you want them to trim more. They are very polite and skilled. I did not experience any pain! I even got to view a film on tv about the life of Buddha (in Vietnamese with Chinese subtitles!) Since I am familiar with the life of Buddha I was able to follow it without a problem. They have a massage chair that gives you a nice hard massage if you are into that. read more

Very great awesome service at the Fresh Day Spa in Rodeo. They were fast and offered plenty of nail selections. I'm glad I used Yelp to recommend this nail spa since this was my first visit here. I was able to just walk in at 9 am. I'll definitely take advantage of making an appointment next time. Having found this gem I won't take my chances and possibly miss out on such fabulous work.
