Been coming here for 25 years and now there's apparently no nudity allowed in the locker rooms! Uptight much? It's ok for moms to bring in their 10 year old boys who can clearly fend for themselves in the men's locker room, yet it's not ok for an older woman to be nude in the shower area. And I know for a fact that the men continue to walk around nude all the time. You can't enforce rules if they're not across the board! read more

I love this recreational park and the city pool! One of the cleanest and safest pools I've been to! We love coming here to beat the heat and soak up the sun. I recently found out on their social media, that there are community events where the city has food, music and entry is FREE! What a great way to promote safe activities and introduce local, affordable fun! Entry is a couple of bucks on a regular day and there's showers inside to rinse off the chlorine once you're done. They also offer affordable swim lessons over the summer and fitness classes such as boga fit which I tried last summer and had a blast. If you don't have access to a pool, like us, come right by and support your local city pool(s). I'm sure you'll have a blast regardless of your age. :D read more

Compared to other outdoors like the one in glassell Park this is bigger and better and offers more lanes. The staff is reasonably competent, and the facilities are clean. The water does get cold in the winter time even though it is supposedly heated. read more

A part of me doesn't want to review this place so well because I love it so much and don't want more people to know about it. This pool has so many more amenities vs the next closest lap pool for me - Verdugo. And it's cheaper to enter - $4 vs $7. They have kickboards and pool buoys available for everyone. Inside the facility they have showers w soap dispensers and a suit dryer. The only down side is the pool itself need a paint job and cleanup. But I'll take that over higher prices, no amenities, and time limits to swim. read more

I have been taking swimming lessons at this location for 6 weeks. The classes are 25 minutes long. The beginner class I looked at as a refresher course. I learned to swim before the pandemic. However, I stopped swimming after I learned and lost my confidence. This course got me back on track. After that, I moved to an intermediate class. There, I really learned so much about different strokes. I worked on perfecting my form. I even learned to dive in the deep end from poolside. I am so grateful for all the staff. My teacher, Steve, was the person who I worked with the most and he really is so good at teaching. He gave me that boost of confidence I needed when I doubted myself. Beyond grateful to learn this invaluable life skill. Now, I don't want to stop being in the water! read more

I am not a swimmer by any means, but I do love the feeling of being in a pool. I came to take a water aerobics class despite the teasing from my husband that it is an 'old lady' thing to do. I have so many injuries all over my body and was encouraged by my doctor to try something low impact to help ease pain and tension. The class was fantastic and everything I needed. The instructor was a helpful and very nice young lady. $5 for an hour workout that helped me feel better is a bargain. I will definitely be doing this on a regular basis. The block off a couple lap lanes for the class. The facilities are excellent. Everything is very clean and well tended to. The locker rooms are pretty bare bones, but clean and stocked with soap and shampoo. Be sure to bring your own towels and lock. Life guards are always present. I came midday after school had started for the year so it was primarily adults and it wasn't crowded at all. Pricing is fair and you can pay by the visit, purchase a block of visits or get passes for the month. Parking is free and plentiful in the lot. read more

Agree with the person complaining about spotty reliability. Went today at noon for the pool. Pool was closed I guess due to it raining yesterday? Doesn't really make sense. Isn't the first time I've wasted time and gas money trekking here to find the pool closed for no good reason. Also, haven't had luck with anyone actually answering the phone. When you go the staff is at least pleasant so I guess that's worth something, but, seriously closing without warning and not answering the phones leading to patrons wasting precious time and gas to arrive disappointed and now on multiple occasions is unacceptable. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had the worst experience on 8/25!! I head over to the pool to let my nieces swim before they fly back since vacation is over. Keep in mind I came twice before this when them that same week. Well on 8/25 as I'm checking in to pay for us the lady in the front said I need another adult since both girls are under 7. Totally understandable. I let her know I'd come back. I waited 20 minutes for my brother to arrive to help me, once he came we went back to check in and pay. As I'm paying she looks at my brother and says those aren't swimming trunks so she calls the manager over. Manager looks at his pockets and then proceeds to say it's fine this one time (my brother is wearing swimming trunks the mesh lining was inside like other swim trunks) he was not wearing basket all or regular shorts they just weren't name brand Nike. Then she looks at both my nieces who are wearing Speedo floaties purchased at target. She asks for them to take off so she can see if they are us coast gaurd approved. Again I totally understand I had them take it off and then handed both to her. Keep in mind both times that week I came no over ever ever stopped me or asked to check their life jackets. She then proceeds to say they aren't approved and they can't use them. My nieces are 4, and 6 they don't know how to swim. She's giving me a hard time about letting them in with them. I explained to her the previous lady said nothing and the last two times I came no one said anything either. I checked the target website because I'm shocked Speedo would make something not approved and in fact it was. I completely felt discriminated the manager was very rude and unprofessional. I understand following rules and safety is extremely important but it seems as if some employees pick and choose who they want to swim. It was noon with only 4 people in the pool and more than 6 life guards on duty from what I saw. I have never been treated like this let alone a place I've gone to multiple times. I will never come here again after I have been treated. If you have kids or anyone who doesn't know how to swim DO NOT COME HERE. I MADE MY BROTHER DRIVE, I WAITED IN THE HEAT ALL TO BE HARASSED ABOUT WEARING FLOATIES AND SHORTS. read more

I love this pool itself when it is open but the workers can make me very upset sometimes. I call every morning before i go to ask about the hours I can swim, and then they always tell me a certain time to come and guarantee that I will be able to swim. Then later I call back during that time to make sure and they say it's closed. I've even showed up before when they said it was gonna be open and wasted a 40 min round trip because of it. I hope the pool takes this serious because it can be extremely annoying and causes me to not want to come and swim. read more

This pool is so unreliable. Me and my friends want to use the high dive so we called when they opened and asked if it would be open at the designated time we asked. They said it would, but this has happened before where they said it was open when it wasn't so we called before we went and they said that it is now closed. Coming here to get a swim workout in during the summer is the best. No, the facilities aren't exactly mind blowing, but it's still pretty clean. There's always adult lap swim in the evenings as well as a designated area for kids. $3.50 for adult lap swim isn't bad at all, but they used to offer a library card discount price of $2. This pool is a wonderful community resource but it is poorly managed. Simple fixes like better customer service and an online calendar so people can see when lanes are open (and don't waste their time, like I have because of their misinformation over the phone on several occasions). They also have some very dumb rules that should be updated. But the kicker for me was when I gently suggested they move into the 1990s with an online calendar and the pool manager said "what do you want, it's the city." I used to go to this pool years ago, but tried today and was turned away because they wouldn't take my $20 bill to enter. Sorry dude, $4 exact change only. I was very impressed with this pool. The women's locker room was very clean. It has an attendant where I was able to check my belongings. No lockers are available. There were plenty of showers and toilet stalls, along with changing stalls. The pools are great. I especially like the sectioned area for "jogging" in the water. It looked like people love the diving boards. There's a wonderful picnic area that seems underused. I suggest packing a lunch and letting the kids swim off their energy. read more

This is probably the best public pool I have been to. It's clean, the workers are friendly, and they offer plenty of times for lap swim on both the weekdays and the weekends (M-F: 6-10AM and 12-8:30PM, Sat: 9-5PM, Sun: 12-5PM). The lifeguard did tell me it's the busiest around 3-5PM on the weekdays because of the high school swim team so I would avoid coming during that timeframe. I went today right around noon and it was just perfect. It wasn't crowded at all and since the whole pool was open for lap swim, everyone pretty much had their own lane or had to share with just 1 person. They also offer pull buoys and kickboards and they have a digital pace clock, which is very convenient. The fee to use the pool is $2.50 for adults or $2 with a library card. They do have a somewhat cheaper alternative ($55 for 30 visits = $1.83 each time) but I think I'll just stick with the library card discount. Also, as annoying as it is to pay for the pool each time, it definitely keeps me from slacking off. I got so tired in the middle of my workout and I was ready to just call it quits but then I thought, "If I'm paying $2 each time (which will be equivalent to $60 a month), I'll suck it up and finish my workout." So there it is: a clean pool, plenty of lanes, and motivation to workout. What more could you ask for? read more

Last time I came here I listened to a very interesting conversation about local politics between the lifeguard and the guy who knows everyone, while I practiced the kick of my breast stroke. 2. If you don't like naked, this pool isn't for you. I don't know what it's like on the boys side but on the girls side there are tits everywhere! (this is not always a good thing) 3. This pool is sooo clean... if you come after 7. 6-7am on weekday mornings the pool water is so salty from sweat because of the high school swim team practices. Stop looking pedophiles!! 4. Sometimes, the pool is full of unbelievably attractive men. I don't know how or why this happens, but when it does and I cherish it. 5. It's hard to rate something when you really have no basis of comparison. I used a public swimming pool way back in middle school and that's pretty much the extent of my experience. That being said, I am a fan. For one, I am both pleased and surprised that the outdoor pool is open all year round. I know Los Angeles doesn't get super cold but walking out to a pool, wet, just wearing a bathing suit in 45 degree weather is far from pleasant, but leads me to the second reason I like this place -- it's heated. I've never seen the water dip below 80 degree and actually find it more pleasant jumping in when it's cold than when the weather is warm. The pool itself is maintained pretty well, and I've never been too concerned about getting any kind of water born illnesses, there are always plenty of life guards on duty, and the locker room is pretty clean as too. They also keep good hours, open most days most of the year, even as late as 8:30 pm during the winter months, which is very welcome. If there are negatives, last year a 30 admission lap pass used to cost $55 and it recently shot up to $87.50, which is atrocious. The other is during peak hours it can get real busy and you end up having to split lanes or wait for someone to leave. Overall though the positive far outweigh the negative and it's a great way to go swimming without driving out to the ocean. read more

I frequent this pool about 3 times a week. 2 times a week, I play water polo with the Men's Masters Group (Wednesday evenings at 7pm and Saturday afternoons from 2-330pm) and the other time, I do a swim workout on random days of the week on my own. It only costs $2 to swim in the lap swimming hours (with a llibrary card), which is great, but I am quite disappointed with the new posted lap swimming times since the do not allow 2-4:30pm weekday swims anymore. The staff seems to be very friendly and the pool water is always pretty clean (Sometimes, however, it's a bit too warm for an intense swim workout or our water polo games). The only really issue I have with the pool is that the locker room needs a bit of a makeover and updating. read more

Just moved to the area and was looking to continue my aqua rehab exercises. The pool is 5 mins from me and offers a class Tues. to Fri. at 5:30pm for 45 mins. The pool water is warm and the exercises are so helpful. There were only 3 of us today and it was perfect, though they could use more people to keep the class going. I love the Sherman Oaks Aquatic Center. It is an extremely clean and safe pool -- the lifeguards are friendly and will help you find a lane when it's busy. The patrons here are aware of swimming etiquette and will make you feel welcome. There is a kid and family zone, but most people are here for the exercise or sport of swimming, which is why I keep coming back! read more

If you like to swim and live in the Valley, this is a great place to go. 50-m pool with tons of activities (water polo, synch swimming, etc). The morning lap swim can't be beat, especially during the summer, when it's *FREE* with an LA City Library Card. ($1.50 during other months) As additional bonuses, it's not crowded during lap swim and they also offer pull buoys, kick boards and fins - all for free. Don't try lap swimming on weekends during open swim hours, though. The entire pool is over-run by kids and others who hang out in the lap lanes, and the water can get murky with what I hope is suntan lotion. read more

Huge public pool! $5 water aerobics classes on weekday evenings. Parking can be tricky when there are tournaments going on. Locker rooms are pretty spare, but you can leave your valuables with the front desk. Perfect for hot valley nights, temperature is not too cold or too hot. The class usually takes up two lanes and the instructor plays fun music. Only downside - the instructor doesn't get in the water - he usually just shows the moves from the side of the pool - and sometimes his energy is pretty low. UPDATE AUGUST 2014 : PLEASE CALL FOR CURRENT PRICING as I HEARD IT HAS GONE UP and no more LAPL library card discount. This is the only pool in the San Fernando Valley that LA CITY RUNS that is OPEN ALL YEAR, and considering the extremely short swim seasons at the other pools I have to wonder if LA CITY even pays for the water with the proceeds of admissions. This is the only outdoor pool that LA CITY RUNS that is HEATED. How heated? Enough to take the shock off - not too much more. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE SOME SORT OF RETRACTABLE ROOF PUT OVER THIS POOL. I got my first sun burn in years here and am convinced that there is an ozone hole right above us and that we need something like that over at least some of the pool for those who don't want to age a million years in one. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE SEATING OR UMBRELLAS AROUND THE POOL - no shade. You can fry an egg on the cement around the pool so bring flip lops to get into pronto when you get out of the pool and forget putting a towel down on the cement to dry - cause you too will fry. No place to linger or be social other than in the water. THE WOMEN's LOCKER ROOMS are very very minimal. You cannot be modest and use these locker rooms unless you come in your suit and leave in your suit. There is warm running water so you can probably shower off and get it together to go to work from here. But what a deal for only $2. a swim with an LAPL library card! And you can buy a pass for 50 swims good forever for a very good deal too. Also good is that you can probably take a nap on a blanket on the grass in the park without being harrassed. This pool is deep in Sherman Oaks despite its name, and its a pretty civilized place compared to some parks. read more

Love that this place is almost never crowded except in the summer, and usually you can get your own lane. The showers are heated in the summer but in winter the sun heating system they use is not very good. $2 bucks to get in with a LA library card, I try and swim early in the morning to jump start the day, it's better than Starbucks! read more
