I wish this review was a recorded testimonial instead of just typed text because RYAN deserves all of the praise in the world! He is the most exceptional swim instructor I've ever encountered and we had several before we decided to exclusively have our son swim with him. He is so patient, and does an exceptional job at balancing silliness to bond with the children and discipline to motivate the little swimmers to want to be better and level up to make him proud. My son has been coming to water wings since 9mo old but had to stop for a year due to ear infections. When he returned he was terrified to submerge his head under water and it was just by random chance that he was in a group class with Ryan! He quickly took to Ryan and would scream bloody murder if he didn't swim with his favorite instructor, so we opted for private lessons! It was at that point that everything took a huge turn! We had originally signed Jaxon up to be "water safe" but he was so motivated and built such an amazing bond with Ryan that he has stayed with him for now more than a year in a 1:1 setting and now wants to competitively swim. HE IS now the best swimmer in the house, and is far beyond his peers AND his older friends who are 7+. At THREE YEARS OLD our son has almost perfected the breaststroke, freestyle, 6 kick switches, dominates backstroke, is doing front flips diving into the water, tumble turn flips off the wall, can swim underwater, deep dive for objects, can hold his breath for more than 30 seconds and so much more! NOBODY has ever seen anything like this. Ryan is truly one of a kind and we will forever be grateful for all that he's done for Jaxon! The sky is the limit with such a brilliant instructor by his side! I wish I had something like this growing up because maybe I would be a better swimmer. My swimming classes involved a giant temporary pool in the local elementary school playground with inadequate instructors. I've been taking my nephew to classes here for the last few years. He was initially in group classes but hated them and prefers the private classes instead. he has significantly improved since he started. There are multiple classes going on at the same time. it is also easy to reschedule when something comes up. There's plenty of parking in the back and a little gift shop of snacks and swim accessories. They have showers to rinse off after class as well as changing rooms. read more

This place was a waste of time and money for us. My daughter was in their starfish class for probably close to a year and they never moved her up to the next level. She was still in the class with 4 year olds and is almost 6. Multiple kids she started with were moved up in an appropriate timeline but not her. Every time we spoke to them about it they said she was almost ready but never took any action. As someone else with a similar review mentioned, the beginners groups class teachers are useless and treat it as playtime instead of actually teaching my child how to properly swim. Or care enough to make sure she's moving up to a level where she can actually be challenged to grow instead of splash around with toddlers. We will never attend classes here again. We removed her and are going elsewhere. read more

My daughter took lessons weekly for 3 months and made no progress. Had a different teacher almost weekly so they'd start over each week. Every class is exactly the same. No one checks to see if they're making progress. Membership starts on the date you sign up, not the date you start classes. They don't explain this so we lost 10 days of membership. It's cheaper than private swim lessons per class, but you'll be there so much longer that it ends up costing the same if not more by the time your kid finally learns something. read more

My favorite Water Wings location by far! I've been to a few and I was so appreciative of how we were welcomed being new to this location. The front desk person offered to give us a tour! Already way more attention than we've received compared to the others. It also doesn't smell overwhelmingly like chlorine which is a major plus. My son was deeply traumatized by the innocent attempts of a different program and DESPISED the water. He would freak out if a single drop of water touched his face. The instructors at water wings (namely Adam who has since promoted) completely transformed my son's relationship with water and the kid is now jumping in having a BLAST. Each teacher brings their own personalities (all wonderful and strong) to the lesson while understanding and working with special/sensory needs. Special shout out to Aaron and Giorgette- my kids' current teachers. They have the patience of saints and both my kids always look forward to seeing them. My kids are absolutely thriving at Water Wings in Encino. He's hitting all of his milestones and leveling up almost every month, and it's been amazing to watch his confidence and skills grow. The instructors here are truly special--so caring, patient, and clearly giving 100% every single day. It shows in everything they do. My kids love swimming so much that they know the instructors by name and even convinced his little friend to join him. We come every week, and we love the consistency and amount of practice because our goal is to participate in a kids triathlon. I'm genuinely confident my kids will be more than ready for the swim portion thanks to this program. What really stands out is the culture. The staff treats one another with care and respect, and that energy absolutely carries over to the kids. Who teaches our children matters, and I am incredibly grateful for every swim instructor here. I never thought swim meets--or even dreaming big like the Olympics--could feel possible, but here it truly does. They teach proper strokes from the very beginning. The families that attend are just as wonderful--it really feels like a community within a community. If I had one recommendation: sign your babies up early and work your way up to longer sessions. My kids now complain that the 30-minute classes are way too short! Huge shoutout to Ashley and everyone involved in running the Encino location--operations are on point. We've completed our first week at Water Wings and we love it! Lizzie is our instructor and she is fantastic! She's fun, energetic, and most importantly patient with my son. We are lucky to have her! The facilities are very clean and spacious with showers, changing rooms, and separate bathrooms. They keep the pool heated and also keep the temp warm so the kiddos aren't freezing when they come out. We've had a great experience at Water Wings Encino, particularly with Ryan today and my son's new teacher Nicky. When our son's class time was changed by the front desk without notice, Ryan (who is not the normal teacher) stepped in and did a 1-on-1 class with our son so he didn't miss a lesson. We really appreciated Ryan going out of his way to help us. (Luckily, the new class time moving forward is with Nicky who has been great the few times he subbed in when other teachers couldn't make it.) Ryan was patient, funny, and great with young kids. He did a great job connecting with my son and helped him make progress with the current things the class has him working on (moving his arms, putting his hands up, etc.). We've had a great experience at Water Wings and highly recommend both Ryan and Nicky to other families. read more

The children beginners group classes are semi useless. The child does it get more than few minutes total with the instructor plus wasting time in between children. My son attended 10 group sessions and his swimming abilities didn't improve. I understand that children vary in knowledge and ability but I heard the same concerns from other parent's. read more

At first all of my kid's swim class were followed as per schedule... the problem started when we had to go on a vacation & that my kid missed 3 swim class. Before we went on vacation, we already informed them about my kid missing class and they said they can schedule her for make up classes the following month. So we were at peace. But then when we came back and every single time we went for my kid's regular swim class, we would ask to be scheduled for the make up classes at the front desk, thru text messages and even thru email and everytime it is confirmed. But the moment we showed up for the make up class, magically its not in their system/its not scheduled/someone mess up the schedule etc. and people at the front desk would just simply tell us "there's no instructor available" as if we were the one who just showed up without an appointment! Unapologetic. Unprofessional tone as if we gave them unnecessary problem for the day! When we are the one who always ends up with a messed up schedule, with a very disappointed child and a paid service that we cant use! read more

Before these swim lessons, my child thought swimming meant splashing dramatically and yelling for a pool noodle. Now? They are gliding through the water like a dolphin with a purpose. We have been attending Water Wings for our son's swim lessons over the past four months and are thrilled with the facility and the instructors. The admin staff at the Encino location have been excellent to collaborate with - great communication in lesson updates/changes and providing flexibility. The facility itself is well-maintained, and the pools are very clean. We have seen our son's growth and comfort in water primarily through the attention and care provided by the instructors. We initially started with group lessons and saw our son truly enjoy his lessons and was consistently learning. We have him enrolled in private lessons now with Elizabeth Rivas, who has been a great coach for our son and is very patient. She has helped him learn and improve within a month of lessons. We've been going to Water wings since my son Carter was 6 months old, and it's been one of the best decisions we've made for him. He started in Baby Swim and graduated to Baby Swim II at a year old. Our swim instructor Elizabeth is outstanding !! She's amazing with the kids and the parents, and my son loves her. We probably wouldn't still be going if we didn't have her. I highly recommend trying to get your child in her classes. All the staff including the manager Ashley are welcoming and amazing!! I typically don't write reviews but this place has really been a game changer for our son especially since we have a pool at home. At the time of this writing he's 1yr 10mos. and his confidence and skills are a joy to see. I recommend starting them as young as possible, as it seems like the kids that start later seem to have a bit harder time getting comfortable, but the instructors, especially Elizabeth (Liz) do a great job no matter the situation. We are lucky to have met Elizabeth, she has been very helpful in teaching our daughter how to be more comfortable with the water.

My husband and I have been wanting our boys to partake in swim lessons but we've never stumbled upon a school/program that felt right. We drove by Water Wings Swim School in Encino, CA and decided to just drop in and see if anyone could be of help to us. If you're overwhelmed or confused by their website, it is well worth the try to stop by and ask questions in person. Evelyn was so friendly and knowledgeable. I feel bad because I think we bombarded her with all sorts of questions during part of her lunch break. She answered our questions happily and that really made us feel comfortable with enrolling our boys in this program. Ashley was also so kind and helpful. She helped assist us with our questions about the scheduling of classes, cancelation policy, etc. She even gave us a tour after helping us enroll. So far, we had an amazing experience getting started. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and that helps to create a wonderful environment for families who are excited and nervous about having their children learn to swim. The facility is clean and there are private rooms to change in. Also, it helps that they have some reasonably priced gear for sale as well as snacks for that post-swim hunger. They don't know what's your kids level and every time you come they will put you to beginners area and you need to waste time to approve the level you are. So happy we chose Water Wings in Encino! It's a new location and clean (yay). When my daughter was two we tried the location in Northridge. We didn't have a great experience but mostly because she just wasn't comfortable yet. Fast forward 4 years and I have a very eager and determined little girl who wants to swim and honestly "GO FOR IT". My daughter (and us) did not want to mess around and waste our time or money. We wanted the most out of our sessions and knew our daughter could keep up and be pushed. The first week she bumped up to turtle. Her third week she started Stingray. This was very motivating to her. This was because the instructors challenged her. They identified strengths and areas of improvement and made sure Elaya was improving and today after 4 weeks of swim... she swam half the length of the pool!! She even showed off her skills at a pool party. She is so proud of herself. Two summers ago she was terrified to even put her face under water and now she wants to do cannon balls and dive for toys. What's so great about this location? Yes, the instructors, but don't forget about the manager- Ashley. Talk about VIP treatment. She doesn't want you to waste your time and drag out sessions. She wants the most for your child and truly wants them to succeed and advance their skills. It's summer break for my 6 year old and we decided to treat Water Wings like a summer camp and commit to multiple lessons per week because of the amazing instructors who are willing to push my daughter and Ashley who has been nothing short of amazing and accommodating. She goes out if her way to make sure you are taken care of. Some of their great instructors who my daughter looks forward to seeing everyday are Jazzy, Leslie, and Sophia (two Sophia's and both are great!). Ultimately, we all want our kids to have the skills to keep them safe in the water and there is nothing better than seeing my little girl be confident in the water! It's so worth it!
