Good range to shoot. Pros- You can rapid fire but be on the look out for beginner shooters they tend to drift the muzzle other than that I like it. The price is not bad compare to other ranges. You can park your car right up the lane that your in and it's very convenient when you need to get something from your car. Cons- They have a 2 mag 5 rounds max per mag rule‍. I do admit the owners are pretty rude when talking to you (mainly why i gave a 4 out of 5 stars) but then again there straight forward with you no BS but I would appreciate it if there more friendlier like When trying to ask for information or help. read more

You can't find a better range that allows what they do. Yes one of the owners is a smart ass but hey he's just bored let the man retire. As far as the the range goes if u want a seize fire just ask they are usually pretty good about it. Paper targets for pistol at 7 yards or 25 yards. Semi auto area for 25/50/100 yards theirs a bolt action side so u don't have brass slingers next to u. They also have trap machines or skeet machines what ever you wanna call them. Pistol steel they don't care if u use steel case or aluminum just make sure to have glasses on as incidents from bullet ricochete has happened in the past. Pretty much act like a idiot and get treated like one. They have a area for rapid fire from binary triggers to force reset triggers or full autos. Range fee is fair and they do only Accept cash which sucks sometimes. All and all a great range with lots of options. read more

TL;DR: I was told to shoot in one spot by an employee at the window. Was later CUSSED OUT and called a liar by the supposed owner for shooting in the wrong spot despite it being the exact spot I was told to shoot. Had my range number written down by the employee at the window and everything. Went with 2 of my buddies for the first weekend shoot in months. I had a 12 gauge and they had 556 ARs. When paying at the window, I was told to go shoot at the rifle range with my buddies, despite me even asking about the shotgun-specific shooting area. Guy at the window (35-40y/o, large heavy-set man, short facial hair and buzzed head) told me he was "hooking me up", so I asked for a 25 target for my shotgun and did as told. We were given range numbers 56(me), 82, and 83. About an hour and a half later a different man (60ish, stubble, about 5'8 and thin) who identified himself as 'the owner' walked up and immediately cussed me out, saying I was not supposed to be shooting my shotgun where I was. I attempted respectfully explaining the situation, and he interrupted me and said to my face that what I was saying was bullshit, that I 'got caught' (shooting my shotgun 20 yards down from where I should have, because I'd totally do that for no reason...), and was told to clean up shells. Not bothering to push the matter any further since I was just there to have a good time with friends, I picked up my shells while my buddies packed their rifles, and we promptly left to a range in Liberty that they had initially recommended. Had a sour taste in our mouth for the rest of the day over that, I'm disappointed in this range. I used to have a 5 star review on this place. Last few times I went the workers have just been condescending pricks. Just because y'all gotta deal with a bunch of young idiots doesn't mean every young person there is an idiot. And from one business owner to another: don't ever insult your damn paying customers, especially during a communication failure on the fault of YOUR OWN EMPLOYEES. What ever happened, Daryl? I've been looking for a range to get out to to escape all of the shitty indoor ranges around this city, and Van Road delivered. They have a ~7yd pistol range, ~25yd pistol/rifle range, and extended ranges too. They also offer steel targets for pistol. The one complaint I would have is they have no "cease fire" protocol for changing/adding your own targets if you wish. Everyone just shoots shoots shoots with no target changes. My opinion I love this range man you do what you want on your own free will I love how you can shoot any gun you want not a lot of ranges let you shoot any ammo gotta be all specific and what not I love it I love the guys that work there. I have came here many times and there has been a couple times that i have to wait on the train to move for at least half an hour. As for the place itself it's out in the open and has fine targets for practice although it does get very hot. They have no fans out for the shooters. As i have been here multiple times i have met several workers and it's either a hit or miss because sometimes there's a rude worker or a nice and friendly worker. Bad customer service really ruins the experience. read more

This is a really good outdoor range in the Houston metro area. The rates are excellent at $15 per shooter (one target included) but it's cash only so bring cash. I believe it's $5.00 additional if you want to shoot your shotgun. Call and check that first. Here's what I like about this range. Angelo and Darryl are both really good men. They're the ones that run the range and they do a great job. Additional targets are $1.00 each. You can shoot your rifle at 25, 50, 100 & 200 yards. That's pretty damn good. The pistol range is I believe 15 yards. Here's what I really like about this place. You can drive up to your lane and unload your gear and it's about 20 feet to your shooting bench. Your vehicle is right there next to you if you need to grab something. That's convenient. The lanes are covered so you're not getting hammered by the Texas sun. Which can be brutal. Angelo plays country music over the speakers while you're out shooting. Purty good if ya ask me. You can rapid fire all you want. That's right - no one shot every five seconds or one bullet in a magazine like some of the other ranges in the Houston metro area. Is that stupid or what? One bullet in your magazine? I went to that range one time and I'm shocked that they are still in business. The one con I would say is that you have to watch any new shooters coming on line. A lot of the novice shooters and even some of the experienced ones will muzzle sweep you if you're not watching them. If they do it, then just go tell Angelo or Darryl and they'll handle it. You can always ask the shooter nicely not to point their muzzle at you but most shooters will get all offensive about it and tell you that "the guns not loaded". Yeah, heard that one before. Anyway, this is out on the far east side of town range is for my money the best one in Houston. Wear your boots and proper mud gear if it rains cause it does get a little muddy out there but that doesn't bother a real shooter so it shouldn't bother you. Comment me if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them for you. All I can say is that Angelo and Darryl are the A-Team for the Van Road Gun Range. I like this range a lot. If you have multiple guns and want to shoot a few it's affordable. I believe they charge per person fee and have plenty of distances. They even have a section dedicated for children to shoot that is further away from the scarier "assault type guns" also no lights so they shut down no excuses when it gets near dusk. No real time limits since they have so many lanes. I'm a member so I just pay a dollar per target afer you pay the anual membership. As a member you have access to come on Mondays when they're closed to the public. But don't come when it's near dusk! Two thumbs up read more

Very clean range. Lots of targets set up already so we didn't have to wait until an all clear to go hang a target. Bring your own spotting scope. Lots of parking. No lights so no night shooting. But this is our new go to shooting range. read more

Firearms safety are top priority at any range or home. I, a lifelong gun owner, understand that and the seriousness of it. Range rules are aplicable anywhere but the way these smug individuals enforce it is disgusting. They're a bunch of fudds who scoff at anything "high capacity". If it's not a hunting rifle they frown upon it. The 5 round and 2 mag limit is too Californian for my taste. Last I checked this is America. Will never return. read more

It was my first time going to this range. I usually go carters country, but I wanted to try something different. They had a 5 round max and 2 mag limit which is not practical at all. Targets are to close together, and the staff doesn't bother to space shooters. There may be 3 or 4 people shooting, and they will all be stacked on top of each other. This is annoying in 2 ways. 1, you are constantly peppered by flying brass and 2, you will invariably have someone else filling your target full of holes. The staff is a bit off to say the least. I have never heard so many racial slurs and derogatory comments. The price is right though, and if you can put up with the short comings and the negative comments then it is a great deal. read more

I went there to check it out. It was a nice day to go shooting. I walked up to the check in building and the elder gentleman was extremely helpful. I bought a new rifle and asked him to help me load it because I was unfamiliar with my new product. i have been there several times with my family it is not a fancy gun range but your there to shoot and it is great for that. the gentlemen that run it are very helpful and will bore sight your scope for 5.00 and help you with any adjustments needed. good prices about 40.00 for two shooters and two rifles and no time limits. read more
