Saw this going viral on insta so was curious to try. The line moves really quick so don't be discouraged. They only sell one cookie and wow it was probably the best chocolate cookie I've ever had. Super soft and moist with a nice chewy center. I would come back to Amsterdam just for these cookies.
These cookies were so delicious and chocolate cookies aren't typically my first preference. It's best to eat them warm and the filling inside adds a nice touch. The line can get a little long but it goes by fairly quick.
Okay... I get the hype now Van Stapele Koekmakerij only sells ONE cookie and they absolutely perfected it. It's a dark chocolate cookie with a soft white chocolate filling inside, and it's honestly one of the best cookies I've had. Crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle, and super rich without being overly sweet. Yes, there's usually a line -- but it moves pretty fast. Totally worth the wait. I went during a busy time and it was still organized and smooth. The cookie was warm and fresh which made it even better. It's affordable and such a fun, quick stop while walking around the city. Perfect little sweet treat moment. If you're in Amsterdam, this is a must
You can't visit Amsterdam without stopping at Van Stapele. It's centrally located on Rokin and easy to find--just look for the line! Don't let the queue intimidate you; it moves incredibly fast. I only waited about 10 minutes. They do one thing, and they do it perfectly: a dark chocolate cookie with a gooey white chocolate core. The texture is the gold standard--soft and chewy, yet it still has enough "snap" to give you those perfect crumbs. Since they bake them around the clock, you get them warm, which is the absolute best way to eat them. At €3 per cookie, it's a bit of a splurge, but 100% worth it. If you want a box, it's 6 for €15. Note that there's usually a limit per person (it seems to change daily based on demand), so get there early if you're buying for a group!

Totally worth it! The cookie here is super decadent. I love that ooey gooey flavor and it was just amazing overall! It either comes in a box or their signatures blue tin which I believe is extra. The line may look long but it goes by fast. The staff here are very friendly and patient. Definitely worth coming back for!
I had to return here on my second trip to Amsterdam because it was so good the first time. When I knew I was coming back I'd been dreaming of this cookie. I finally made this my last stop on my trip because I wanted to take a 6 pack home with me. For 18 euros, I got one 6 pack in a paper box as well as one single cookie. The wait was out the door when I got there, but went super quickly. I was in and out within 5-7 minutes. Can't wait to come back again!
Stroopwafels are a must when in Amsterdam. I'm gonna be honest, you can get them anywhere and they're great, fresh or not. The ones here are lovely and iconic and the toppings are so much fun. A worth while place to stop in but don't feel like you've missed out if you simply buy a pack at the grocery store.
I visited on the hottest day of the week, so there was no line! Once you walk inside the store, the smell of buttery goodness hits you! The interior of the store is crafted with beautiful wood. All the workers also wear a baker's uniform. I was greeted with a warm smile from the worker. You can also buy only 13 cookies per person. I bought a box of cookies to take home and some cookies to eat while in Amsterdam. The cookies were nicely and delicately packaged in a tin box. I felt like I was watching a luxury purse get packaged! When I came back home to America, the cookies were still in tact. I could tell that this double chocolate cookie was going to taste delicious, based off the smell. It radiated buttery goodness. One bite of the cookie transfered you to the depths of dark chocolate richness. Once you got halfway, the white chocolate melted in your mouth. I could only eat half of the cookie since it was so rich. I definitely recommend visiting this scrumptious cookie shop in Amsterdam!
Apparently, this is the must-try cookie shop in Amsterdam, so of course we had to check it out. We even skipped dessert at Bistro de la Mer just so we could try these famous cookies! When we arrived, the line was super long--but it moved really fast. It was actually fun watching the cookie makers through the window as they molded the dough by hand and pressed chunks of white chocolate into the center. Kind of like the see-through kitchen you see at Din Tai Fung, if you know what I mean. The cookies were warm, chewy, and definitely tasty. But honestly, they didn't blow my mind. If I bake cookies at home and eat them fresh out of the oven, they're also warm and chewy--so this didn't feel too different. Still, it was fun to try once and worth the experience. Four cookies cost €12--not exactly cheap--but the packaging is cute, and the shop itself has a great vibe. Overall, glad we tried it, but I probably wouldn't go back.
Are the cookies good? Yes Are they worth 3€? Not particularly Are they worth standing ~20 min for? That is subjective Came by on a Tuesday afternoon around 5:30pm (close at 6pm). Sign outside said they sell cookies opening until sold out. They were apparently low on cookies, people allowed in one at a time per register towards 5:50pm. I waited ~20 min in line and got 2 cookies. I'd say about 10-15 people in line did not get cookies, but your mileage may vary depending on the day! Cookie itself is it warm, gooey, with 2-3 types of melted chocolate inside (dark, milky, malted white). Definitely sweet but not overpowering. Overall, would not get again. Very overhyped !
It's too good to be real. This the best cookie in the world! A thin cocoa cookie filled with melted white chocolate. Whatever amount you think you can eat, order triple--because you'll finish it before you even walk out the door and end up getting back in line. I got in line for the third time, and when the cookies sold out before my turn, I honestly felt like a child whose candy had been taken away
The most spectacular chocolate cookies I have ever had. When one thinks of Amsterdam, "chocolate cookie" isn't necessarily what comes to mind, but this place is a must-visit. The lines may seem long but are fast moving. The interior of the bakery is gorgeous and the fact they only serve one item eliminates the decision making process from "which one?" to "how many?" The packaging is beautiful and the prices are reasonable when you think about how much a stroopwafel costs. The chocolate cookie is warm, rich, filled with molten white chocolate, and was a decadent treat on a cold winter day.
Delicious delicious cookies and absolutely worth the wait! They open at 10am and you already know there is a queue waiting for these fresh cookies. The line moves relatively fast I got there maybe 5 minutes before 10 am and was able to have cookies in my hand in 20 minutes. These chocolate cookies feature a white chocolate interior that is the perfect ooey gooey center. The cookie itself wasn't overly sweet as you would expect from a double chocolate cookie which I really enjoyed. Normally chocolate cookies make my teeth shiver. You can expect a softer cookie as they come out warm with a slightly crispy edge. We brought a box home to share with family and friends, supposedly they last up to four days! read more
We saw hype over these stuffed cookies on online food blogs and decided to try it while we were around the corner. We were surprised to find that the queue for the shop wrapped around to the bridge across the street. However, it moved fast, since the shop only sells one item, so the only choice customers have to make is how many. Though it was raining, we decided to wait. The "bouncer" warned us that the shop, which was half an hour from closing time, was running out of cookies, so we might not get one even if we waited. We decided to take the risk, and luckily, we managed to get a couple when it was our turn. These cookies were great and warm, but I feel like I could get a stuffed cookie of similar deliciousness at many great small bakeries in America. It was a good cookie, but I'm not sure it merits all the excitement-- no diss to the cookie, I just think there are plenty of great places to grab a snack in Amsterdam that don't have queues. read more

These cookies live up to the hype! So so tasty and the buttery. Ultra delicious. So happy they only have one cookie as it would be hard to choose! Heads up - get there early as the line is very long and they take their time!! read more
Are these good cookies? Yes. Is it worth the wait? Depends. Stumbled across Van Stapele one morning, not knowing the hype behind it. But the line spoke for itself: its a very popular location at the moment. We waited maybe 30-40 mins before we are able to purchase 3 cookies in a delightful tin and proceeded to eat them in the street nearby. They are decadent! Chocolatey, a bit crisp, with a white chocolate center to round it out. Despite all the richness, the cookie doesn't overwhelm you with sweetness. Were they good enough to justify the wait though? In my opinion, no. I think if you live in a country where these types of cookies are popular, you are bound to find one that is equal in taste and quality without the line. However do not let me stop you from trying these out if you are determined to do so! read more
PRO TIP: pre-order your cookies online beforehand! It's okay if you don't make the exact time slot; I was an hour late for pickup and they still let me pick up with no fuss. I'm not a cookie expert by any means, but these cookies were pretty bomb. I ordered two cookies online for $2.50 each. When we picked them up, my friend and I were both super stuffed as we had been eating all day, but I still wanted to try a bite or two while they were relatively fresh. Next thing I know, I've already eaten half of a cookie and my friend killed the other half! They were that good. They're nice and chewy with a rich chocolate flavor, and I absolutely loved the white chocolate in the center. They're not super sweet either, which I appreciated. I don't eat cookies often, but this definitely was one of the best I've had in years. I get the hype! Also, the packaging is super cute. I'm impressed they gave me a nice sturdy bag for just two cookies. read more
When you have a shop that only sells one cookie, it really makes you curious about how good the cookie is. After trying the cookie for myself, I can definitely say that it's a great cookie, but I don't know that I would wait too long for just the cookie. If the line is short, definitely give it a try. Ordered: 4 Cookies (~€2.50 each): Valrhona chocolate, dark chocolate cookie dough, white chocolate filling, and chocolate chips Aya's take: I knew I wouldn't forgive myself if I came to Amsterdam for the first time and didn't at least try to come to Van Stapele Koekmakerij! I arrived about 10 minutes after opening and there were maybe 75 people in front of me. I was shocked! In total, I probably waited 45 minutes to 1 hour. That's honestly the only downside to this review. As many reviews mention, this is the only cookie they have. The packaging is super cute, classy, and holds well! The Cookies are exceptional! From the softness of the chocolate cookie dough to the creaminess of the white chocolate filling to the overall richness when the flavors come together, it is a solid cookie! Missus rates this place "normal cookies" out of 5. I personally rate this a 4.5/5 - it's reminiscent of the top ones I've had before, but it doesn't feel "exclusive" to Amsterdam / Netherlands. Cookies were delicious. Value is somewhat questionable (12.50€ for 6), and given that you have to wait 1.5 hours - I'll say "yes this is worth it once", but if you don't value your time, or you have literally nowhere else to be - then fine - go here. The ambience inside seemed hurried and frantic - but it's justified because they literally have a line half a km long! The line starts at the bridge - do not cut into the line inside the alley - there's an employee tracking it with tokens they you get from the bridge. Generally if you wait in this line, I'd say you need to order at least 6 (you buy 5, get one free) - sometimes they give you a free cookie if it comes out of the oven deformed (the person in front of me got this one). With a peanut allergy - I tested a small nibble, and it was fine - so I wolfed down a full half cookie in about 20 seconds... Yep, genuine cookie monster over here! read more

They only sell one kind of cookies here and line wraps around the building. Show up 15 mins before opening. Line moves slow because nobody knows what they want before entering. They only sell one cookie here people. Cookies are freaking good! It's a chocolate cookie with a white chocolate in the middle. They also sell an empty tin for 5euro. I must have passed by the Van Stapele cookie shop (Koekmakerij) close to a hundred times and EVERY DAY there is a line to buy these chocolate cookies with a white chocolate center. I've resisted the temptation until now since the line was pretty short at 10AM on a Friday morning. I waited in line less than 10 minutes, ordered the box of 6 for €15 and was home eating a cookie a minute later. It was good, but I don't understand all of the hype. To be fair, I'm not a big fan of chocolate and I didn't have a glass of milk to dip the cookie in. I should've bought just one and satisfied my curiosity. According to the instructions, you can freeze them and heat them up, so that's what I'll do and offer them to friends who are also cookie curious. read more
Probably the best cookies I've ever had! Mom got a tin full and geez, they were so warm and soft and gooey with that white chocolate inside and the dark chocolate outside. Delicious, out of this world cookies! This shop is famous for the singular item they sell; I highly recommend snagging one if you can. The line can look long, but it moves fast. The texture is so gooey in the middle, and crispy in the edges. It's not too sweet even if it's richly chocolate-y. The cookie has a melty and warm quality to it when you bite in. I LOVE cookies so when I heard about this place I had to try it. I waited about 10 min so it wasn't terrible. Was it the best cookie I've had? absolutely not haha it's basically a chocolate cookie with white chocolate and milk chocolate. The cookie wasn't warm either! I think it's pretty hyped up, but I bought 6 cookies and ended up giving the other 5 to 2 kids I sat next to at the stroopwaffle place next door :) read more

Order ahead online!! This will save you lots of time. The chocolate cookies here are really rich and it was pretty good. Really soft and I loved the white chocolate filling in the middle. I definitely wished I had some milk with me. Really popular place so if you don't want to stand in the long line, I highly recommend that you order a few days ahead online! read more

I'd call myself a cookie connoisseur. I've had cookies all over the world. I suppose everyone has their own preferences. But, in Europe it's not easy to find a moist yet chewy with lots of flavor (sorry for the over-generalization, but I've tried). Van Stapele has achieved something special. Although it seems like a shop that has been in business for a century, they have only been around since 2014. It is an adorable shop, the branding is beautiful, and they make one delicious chocolate cookie. They haven't tried to expand or sell other things. They just make one type of rich and addicting cookie that attracts a crowd. There is a reason people wait in line for this cookie. Find out why for yourself! read more

Ok... did I see this place pop up all over my Instagram when I was researching Amsterdam? Yes. Did we wait in line about 15-20 minutes for the cookies? Yes. Was it worth it? I think so? We ended up buying a box of six because why not if we're waiting in the line that long - we asked one of the "bouncers" outside the door (yes they had employees with branded puffer Van Stapele jackets), and he said during the holidays, the line goes down the block across the canal, something crazy like that. I think he said they churn out 4,000 cookies a day?! It was crazy to me that they make ONE, yes ONE type of cookie that's so hyped. The cookies we got were warm and had a gooey center, and tasted like a brownie, so yes, it was delicious, but so so rich. I don't regret waiting in the line and we ate all the cookies we got, but I don't think we'd need to go back in the future (although they said they're moving to a new location that will be way bigger so maybe - this current location is in this tiny alley, and the line wraps around both sides of the street). read more

Super delicious cookies - they serve the cookies to you warm and I would recommend eating them while warm! I love cookies so I would say I've eaten a good amount of cookies and these are definitely one of the memorable cookies I've had. Don't let the long line intimidate you! The line goes by pretty quickly, probably because they only sell 1 item in their store and you just have to decide how many cookies you want to buy. I love that I got a good amount of chocolatey goodness in each bite of that cookie. Their cookies have a very generous amount of chocolate chips that the gooeyness of the choco chip just melted in my mouth as I bit into the cookie. My favorite was definitely the white chocolate filling. I love love love white chocolate, and had a moment of euphoria when that white chocolate filling oozed out as I took a bite of the chocolately goodness. If you're ever in Amsterdam, don't hesitate to come get some of these cookies! read more

Do one thing and do it well. More businesses should follow this model. Van Stapele churns out their delectable Valrhona dark chocolate cookies with a melted white chocolate center all day long. You can probably count on a line, but it moves quickly. You'll be rewarded with decadent, warm cookies presented in cute packaging. When they run out for the day, you're out of luck so come early! read more

In A Nutshell: -If you are looking for some of the best cookies on Earth, you need to grab some Amsterdam (chocolate) cookies at Van Stapele. -Yes, there is always a line to enter the tiny shop, but it moves fast. -You are limited to a maximum 6 cookies per person. -They come in a standard cardboard box or for a couple euro more you can have them in a nice, keepsake tin container. -They only sell & are known for their chocolate cookies. -The cookies are best eaten fresh, however, I was able to store them in my trusty tin container, travel through Europe & back home to the USA. -There are instructions that come w/ the cookies on how to reheat them. -I reheated them about 2 weeks later & they still tasted fresh & absolutely delicious. -The white chocolate filling is magical. Overall, if you love cookies, you need to grab some Amsterdam cookies!! read more

Everyone recommended this cookie spot to me and I had to try it. First off , the shop smells heavenly and I also really liked seeing that the cookies are made fresh in-house. The cookie lived somewhat up to the hype. It was one of the better cookies I've had, and wasn't too sweet. I prefer chunkier cookies, but that's just personal taste. read more
Came in around 4:30 p.m. on a Monday and while it was busy, the line seemed to move pretty fast. It was less than a 5 minute wait. We watched them make cookies in the meantime. I wanted to be able to take cookies on my flight and asked how long the cookies were good for. I was told 4 days. When you open one of their boxes, it provides helpful storage tips for freezing them. While the cookies were pricey, they were pretty good. They are nice and warm when you receive them but please make note that they do not sell anything else there. In other words, if you thought you were going to buy a drink such as milk to wash it down, it ain't happening. Come prepared. I did not happen to see any places next door or fairly close that sold drinks so we hurried back to our hotel so we could still enjoy them while they were hot. I also had one a day later and they were still pretty good. (I am picky and think that not all cookies are as good a day later when they are not fresh out of the oven). My little one also received a coin to put in their machine which was pretty neat. You put in a coin, a marble drops and goes down a track which ultimately dispenses a gold ball with a prize. You then return the gold container and keep the prize. It was a nice little bonus! I would return should I happen to be in the area again. I do, however, think that until that time comes, I could figure out how to make this cookie at home. There doesn't seem to be any unique ingredients that we would not have here in the states except for maybe the type, brand or quality of cacao used. read more

Probably one of the best cookies I have ever had. Maybe that's an exaggeration but it was definitely an amazing cookie. They only make 3000 of them a day and when they sell out, they sell out. Arrive early and form up in the organized queue so that the narrow but busy alleyway does not get blocked. There is a person here to help keep it straight. These are chocolate cookies with a white chocolate center and I won't even try to understand how they make them. I was already getting close to stuffed so it was helpful that the cookies arrive in a wax paper bag for easy transport. I'll bet that it doesn't make it all the way home. So you see a long queue in an alley and everyone is waiting to eat cookies. You get in line and wait because you have no impulse control and curiosity has gotten the better of you. Once inside you ask what kind of cookies they make and they give you a funny look and say "Just one kind of cookie, this one". You buy six because it's a better deal and you tell yourself "I'll eat one now and have the rest later when I get home. ". The problem is home is a 20 minute walk and by the time you get there the 6 cookies are gone. Damn these cookies are really good. read more

Claimed by some to have the best cookies in the world, Van Stapele Koekmakerij is a must-try in Amsterdam. Come early, however, or risk a long line, or even worse, a "sold out" sign. That's what happened to us the first time we tried to go on our recent trip, but we were determined. This time, arriving right when they open at 10am. For those that don't know, Van Stapele Koekmakerij makes 3,000 cookies per day. They close after the last cookie is sold, so their hours vary. This place sells only one type of cookie, made of high quality chocolate dough. With a crisp exterior and soft white chocolate filling, these cookies are to die for. My friends and I found them a bit unique, almost like some kind of hybrid brownie cookie. Needless to say, they were very fresh and extremely delicious. If looking for a top notch dessert place in Amsterdam, Van Stapele Koekmakerij will not disappoint. Service is quick and efficient, the price is reasonable, and the cookies are among the best in the world. Located down a somewhat narrow alley, the storefront is charming, and has an old, traditional feel to it. This place certainly lived up to its hype, and I cannot wait to return next time I'm in Amsterdam. read more
I still dream of this cookie like it was yesterday. We finally arrived at the place and there was a long line waiting to get in to this establishment. We were deliberating how many we should get. 2? 4? The guy in front of us mentioned to get enough because next thing you know they're all gone. 10-15 later we were inside and they had a special . 6 cookies for 10 Euros which was a great deal ! We went with that . They also place it in a nice plastic package with a nice blue bow . I love it Decided to give them a try when we were outside . One bite and I was in heaven . It was warm and morsels of white chocolate melted into my mouth . I also noticed different types of chocolate in the cookie. It was phenomenal. It's safe to say that I'm living in regret I didn't buy more . It was literally the best cookie of my life . Moral of the story. BUY A WHOLE BUNCH OF THESE AMAZING COOKIES. Van Stapele is a tiny popular spot that specializes in one thing and one thing only: white chocolate cookies. We dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon (around 3:45pm) and there was a small queue. They even have someone manning the front that will give you a small menu while you wait. There's only the one item on the menu. - 2x Koek (€2,00) - we bought two and saved one for the next day (they're good for 4 days). Cookie was warm and there's a fat piece of white chocolate inside. I was making my to Lanskroon Banketbakkerij for their Honingwafels, when I saw a huge line for a store. I asked the person working and she told me that it was for a chocolate cookie - but not just any cookie. These cookies are made and baked fresh right in front of you, and there's only ONE type of cookie you can get, which is a dark chocolate cookie made with Valrhona chocolate, with a white chocolate filling and small lil chocolate chips throughout. After I bought my honingwafel from Lanskroon, I saw the line still didn't die down, but I asked the girl how long the wait would be, and she said around 5 minutes - I was sold. I waited in the line of about 10 people, and sure enough I got into the store within a few minutes. I ended up just getting one, just to see what it was like, and although relatively small for 2 euros, it was still very warm and soft. The texture was soft on the outside and just a liiiiiiiiiiitle bit chewy on the outside, which is just the way I like it. You can taste the quality of the chocolate throughout - it was almost like you're eating a brownie cookie. One thing I didn't like was that they clump the white chocolate on the inside, as I'm more of a "spread throughout the cookie" kine gal, especially because white chocolate is my least favorite of all chocolates so it's not really my cup of tea to get a bite-full of just white chocolate. Furthermore, it was weird because my cookie was warm but the white chocolate wasn't melted like other reviews have mentioned soooo ??? Would I go back and pay 2 euros again for this cookie? Probably not (because I'm an avid baker and I feel like I can make something not nearly as good as this, but sufficient enough).
