Saw this going viral on insta so was curious to try. The line moves really quick so don't be discouraged. They only sell one cookie and wow it was probably the best chocolate cookie I've ever had. Super soft and moist with a nice chewy center. I would come back to Amsterdam just for these cookies.
These cookies were so delicious and chocolate cookies aren't typically my first preference. It's best to eat them warm and the filling inside adds a nice touch. The line can get a little long but it goes by fairly quick.
Okay... I get the hype now Van Stapele Koekmakerij only sells ONE cookie and they absolutely perfected it. It's a dark chocolate cookie with a soft white chocolate filling inside, and it's honestly one of the best cookies I've had. Crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle, and super rich without being overly sweet. Yes, there's usually a line -- but it moves pretty fast. Totally worth the wait. I went during a busy time and it was still organized and smooth. The cookie was warm and fresh which made it even better. It's affordable and such a fun, quick stop while walking around the city. Perfect little sweet treat moment. If you're in Amsterdam, this is a must
You can't visit Amsterdam without stopping at Van Stapele. It's centrally located on Rokin and easy to find--just look for the line! Don't let the queue intimidate you; it moves incredibly fast. I only waited about 10 minutes. They do one thing, and they do it perfectly: a dark chocolate cookie with a gooey white chocolate core. The texture is the gold standard--soft and chewy, yet it still has enough "snap" to give you those perfect crumbs. Since they bake them around the clock, you get them warm, which is the absolute best way to eat them. At €3 per cookie, it's a bit of a splurge, but 100% worth it. If you want a box, it's 6 for €15. Note that there's usually a limit per person (it seems to change daily based on demand), so get there early if you're buying for a group!

Totally worth it! The cookie here is super decadent. I love that ooey gooey flavor and it was just amazing overall! It either comes in a box or their signatures blue tin which I believe is extra. The line may look long but it goes by fast. The staff here are very friendly and patient. Definitely worth coming back for!
I had to return here on my second trip to Amsterdam because it was so good the first time. When I knew I was coming back I'd been dreaming of this cookie. I finally made this my last stop on my trip because I wanted to take a 6 pack home with me. For 18 euros, I got one 6 pack in a paper box as well as one single cookie. The wait was out the door when I got there, but went super quickly. I was in and out within 5-7 minutes. Can't wait to come back again!
Stroopwafels are a must when in Amsterdam. I'm gonna be honest, you can get them anywhere and they're great, fresh or not. The ones here are lovely and iconic and the toppings are so much fun. A worth while place to stop in but don't feel like you've missed out if you simply buy a pack at the grocery store.
I visited on the hottest day of the week, so there was no line! Once you walk inside the store, the smell of buttery goodness hits you! The interior of the store is crafted with beautiful wood. All the workers also wear a baker's uniform. I was greeted with a warm smile from the worker. You can also buy only 13 cookies per person. I bought a box of cookies to take home and some cookies to eat while in Amsterdam. The cookies were nicely and delicately packaged in a tin box. I felt like I was watching a luxury purse get packaged! When I came back home to America, the cookies were still in tact. I could tell that this double chocolate cookie was going to taste delicious, based off the smell. It radiated buttery goodness. One bite of the cookie transfered you to the depths of dark chocolate richness. Once you got halfway, the white chocolate melted in your mouth. I could only eat half of the cookie since it was so rich. I definitely recommend visiting this scrumptious cookie shop in Amsterdam!
Apparently, this is the must-try cookie shop in Amsterdam, so of course we had to check it out. We even skipped dessert at Bistro de la Mer just so we could try these famous cookies! When we arrived, the line was super long--but it moved really fast. It was actually fun watching the cookie makers through the window as they molded the dough by hand and pressed chunks of white chocolate into the center. Kind of like the see-through kitchen you see at Din Tai Fung, if you know what I mean. The cookies were warm, chewy, and definitely tasty. But honestly, they didn't blow my mind. If I bake cookies at home and eat them fresh out of the oven, they're also warm and chewy--so this didn't feel too different. Still, it was fun to try once and worth the experience. Four cookies cost €12--not exactly cheap--but the packaging is cute, and the shop itself has a great vibe. Overall, glad we tried it, but I probably wouldn't go back.
Are the cookies good? Yes Are they worth 3€? Not particularly Are they worth standing ~20 min for? That is subjective Came by on a Tuesday afternoon around 5:30pm (close at 6pm). Sign outside said they sell cookies opening until sold out. They were apparently low on cookies, people allowed in one at a time per register towards 5:50pm. I waited ~20 min in line and got 2 cookies. I'd say about 10-15 people in line did not get cookies, but your mileage may vary depending on the day! Cookie itself is it warm, gooey, with 2-3 types of melted chocolate inside (dark, milky, malted white). Definitely sweet but not overpowering. Overall, would not get again. Very overhyped !
It's too good to be real. This the best cookie in the world! A thin cocoa cookie filled with melted white chocolate. Whatever amount you think you can eat, order triple--because you'll finish it before you even walk out the door and end up getting back in line. I got in line for the third time, and when the cookies sold out before my turn, I honestly felt like a child whose candy had been taken away
The most spectacular chocolate cookies I have ever had. When one thinks of Amsterdam, "chocolate cookie" isn't necessarily what comes to mind, but this place is a must-visit. The lines may seem long but are fast moving. The interior of the bakery is gorgeous and the fact they only serve one item eliminates the decision making process from "which one?" to "how many?" The packaging is beautiful and the prices are reasonable when you think about how much a stroopwafel costs. The chocolate cookie is warm, rich, filled with molten white chocolate, and was a decadent treat on a cold winter day.
If you find yourself in Amsterdam with a hankering for one of the best chocolate cookies you'll ever taste, then find your way to this tiny boutique store that bakes only one type of cookie - a chocolate cookie with a white chocolate center. Their cookies are made on the premises, and as you can see from my photos, you can actually view them making them there. They flatten the chocolate portion of the cookie, then place a small white chocolate in the center, and proceed to roll the chocolate around the white chocolate center, while forming it into a perfect ball. The result is absolutely delicious!! I strongly recommend devouring it while it's still warm. It will be slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the white chocolate will be soft and slightly melting in texture. It's still more than fine after a few hours later, but for optimal enjoyment, I would say to have it immediately after your purchase. There was a small line while we were there on a weekday, but I understand that lines frequently form outside the store. I saw people buying tins full of them, as they would make wonderful hostess gifts. I especially love a restaurant or epicurean shop that focuses on just a few things, and knows how to do those few things very well. I'd prefer that any day over a place that is a Jack of all Trades, but a Master of None. This is not a problem here. Van Stapele has mastered the trade of making the perfect chocolate cookie, and that's coming from someone who doesn't even generally prefer chocolates as a treat. This place puts Mrs. Field's and almost all other cookie stores I've ever been to, to shame. Van Stapele's chocolates will rank second only to your own cookies baked at home. If I lived in Amsterdam, you would definitely find me here all the time!! read more

These cookies are fabulous. Made with French Valrhona Chocolate and imagine French butter, these cookies are fabulous. The store only offers one type of cookie. The cookies are baking as you stand in line. Currently, the purchase limit is eight cookies a day. You can pre-order by midnight for next day pickup. These cookies are fabulous. I love the simplicity! -You can see the staff rolling and baking cookies Cons: -No seating -- Cookie (1.90 euro each) Chocolate cookie with white chocolate filling. I wish it was not white chocolate as it was a little bit sweet for my liking, but the actual cookie is really rich and satisfying, and I thought I tasted a hint of almond which I enjoyed. Am I missing something? Because I wasn't wowed by these cookies, sadly. My friend and I were getting fries across the street when we saw a line forming for these cookies. I was obviously super intrigued that there was a long line outside the shop, so I yelped this place while my friend and I went to stand in the line (what can I say, if there's a line then we should check out what's so popular!). I found out that this place makes cookies, well they only make ONE cookie. It's a dark chocolate cookie with a white chocolate filling. I'm not the biggest fan of dark or white chocolate, but I mean I still wanted to see what the hype was all about! The line went by pretty quickly, about 25 minutes I would say? I ordered 2 cookies and they were super warm and straight from the oven. I think there's like a 7 cookie max that you can buy per person. I would've purchased more to bring home to my family but I'm pretty sure they said it would last 2 days and I was leaving Europe in like 4 days, so I couldn't bring any home. I personally thought the dark chocolate was too chocolatey for me and the white chocolate was too sweet and I didn't really find a nice balance in the cookies. They were just oKAY for me. I think I would stick to the OG Chocolate Chip from other stores. Although I didn't think they were the best, my friend loved them and said they were definitely one of the best cookies she's had! They just weren't to my liking, I guess... but lots of other people enjoyed them! read more
This place sells one thing: this magnificent chocolate cookie with a morsel of white chocolate inside (see other photos). I promise, you'll love the decadence, and one just won't be enough (although more than 2 will probably leave you with a stomach ache). I was in Amsterdam for about 6 days, and I visited here three times! The first two times, I bought three cookies each, 2 for me, one for my partner (who "doesn't like sweets"). The third time I went back, I made it about 15 minutes before they closed and they were sold out. Moral of the story: go early! When you get them, the cookies will be warm, so best to enjoy right away, while the inside is still gooey. They also do larger packages that you can take, and not making it back for a fourth time to bring some to family and friends back home is my only regret from my time in Holland. Van Stapele Koekmakerij specializes in one cookie at their bakery. This ooey gooey chocolate cookie is made from high quality ingredients and the richest cocoa. The cookie is slightly crisp on the outside and stuffed with the most decadent white chocolate. The cookies are baked every half hour throughout the day so that they are still warm when you purchase them. If you like cookies and you love chocolate you must stop by Van Stapele Koekmakerij for one of the most heavenly cookies I have ever had. TIP: Cafe Hoppe is located next door so be sure to wash down your cookies with some cold Belgian beer! read more

Claiming to be some of the best around, Van Stapele does not mess around. When we traveled to Amsterdam and only had one day, we knew part of it must be spent trying these cookies. When we walked up, the line was about 15-18 people deep, which made me slightly apprehensive. Thankfully, the line moves pretty fast, and we got there at a great time because then it really started to grow. We waited about 10-12 minutes til it was our turn. The smell inside will have you salivating in no time and watching the cookies being made and baked only adds to the tease. At about 2 Euro a cookie, you cannot go wrong. The chocolate profile is unlike most American chocolate cookies. It's a lot deeper and more complex than a milk chocolate cookie. The white chocolate morsel in the middle oozed out as I bit into mine and added a nice, sweet contrast to the darker chocolate exterior. The best in the world? Maybe not, but nonetheless, Van Stapele is a must in Amsterdam. read more
Wow! I am not sure what kind of secret ingredient they are putting in these cookies but these cookies are mouthwatering delicious! I bought 6 cookies in a cute togo box. These cookies are recommended to be eaten up to four days from purchasing. The dark chocolate with the melted white chocolate center... YUM! They are great both fresh/warm or normal but you can also heat them if you want that melted center. Stop by here if you are touring around Amsterdam. This cookiemaker off an alleyway near the Begijnhof always has a line, and for good reason! They only serve one cookie (chocolate with white chocolate), and they're €2 each. They're gooey and warm -- fresh out of the oven -- and delicious! They close whenever they run out of dough for the day, which typically is around 3 or 4 pm, so plan your visit accordingly. This place is totally worth the hype. Located down a tiny tiny street, you'll miss it if you don't see the sign. The cookies are so-so good that I went twice! Eat one there to enjoy the fresh out of the oven taste. Then devour the rest of the box at home in private with a gallon of milk with no judgement. Rinse and repeat. LOL. They must be doing something right, because that's all they sell here. Pro tip: Call ahead to reserve a box. They do sell out. They also do accept credit cards. Just go. read more

Brought my wife here since she is the sweets person and after $15 euros of cookies in and nice tin as souvenir, she in cookie heaven. We had to wait in queue although it moved pretty fast (had to use my Army voice to stopping a couple of line cutters). Great cookies buts lots of dough () for a cookie. read more

I love cookies. They are the one pastry I wouldn't get sick and tired of cookies as opposed to any other baked goods. So when in Amsterdam, how can I not come to this bakery that ONLY sells one type of pastry. I came, I saw and I ate. These are very good cookies, I would give them 4.6 stars as there are still minor improvements needed to be made but otherwise these are great cookies. Simple, delicious, chewy ..Mmmm... Basically very good chewy chocolate cookie with large white chocolate baked in the middle. Eating it while it's still warm and the white chocolate inside is still melty, it's the best. I wouldn't want these cookies everyday but ALMOST everyday, most definitely! I do recommend stopping by and get 5-6 cookies if you're ever in Amsterdam. read more

They only serve 1 type of cookie. Fortunately, you will LOVE it. Trust me. It is a super chocolate cookie with a white chocolate center. They make it right in front of you, that's how legit it is. It literally might be the great cookie I've ever had. Make sure to eat it fresh when it's warm and gooey. Be on the lookout though, the bakery is easily missed on a small side street. read more

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but these are very good, not amazing cookies. Kind of like Voodoo Donuts in Portland, Oregon, the hype started a line which begat more hype and a bigger line. It's a decent cookie. Too much sugar and not enough white chocolate. The quality of the chocolate in the cookie is good, and they're fresh. If I have you this one, and a David's cookie that's close to the same, you'd never pick this out. Worth the wait? Naaaah. read more

If you don't believe in love at first bite then you haven't had a cookie from Van Stapele. I'm not a big fan of white chocolate but after having this cookie, I am a fan. Although there is usually a line to buy these cookies it's worth the wait. The scent of fresh-baked cookies can be smelled from outside and the workers always have a smile on their faces. My favorite part of this small shop is watching a new batch arrive from the small elevator behind the register. You cannot go to Amsterdam and not try these amazing cookies! Be sure to get there early because they usually sell out by 3 p.m. If you want to take some home to family and friends they have cute containers to store them. One cookie costs 2 euros, which is reasonably priced. read more
When in Amsterdam, one must at least try this cookie. People stand in lines. You must think over hype or crazy. But it's worth a try for a first timer. I'd come back and stand in line again. Wow! Super chocolatey, super moist, and super good with a white creamy center. 1.60 euros (about 2.50usd) per cookie it gets expensive. As soon as you walk in, the delicious mouth drooling aroma hits you and you start not caring how much they cost. You only have to have them now! They sell them in singles, six packs, and 12 packs. The fancier the box the more they cost. The line can reach out into the street BUT be CAREFULL!! Stay on the narrow sidewalk because locals on bikes and scooters make it a point to speed through the narrow street there and yell at everyone to get out of the way. read more

The secret to beating the line is to come in the pouring rain. The charming store was empty and I was able to enjoy a warm cookie in the comfort of the dry shop. This cookie is worth the hype. Super delicious love the white chocolate core. We waited 15 min in front of the store. I don't think that's bad at all in NYC you stand at a lot of places longer than 1 hour so I was happy when the guy at the line said it's 15 min. read more
