We recently stopped in to get a gold chain and pendant for my nephew and the owner was so helpful, kind and patient. The mother is always so sweet to us when we come in too. Very welcoming. If you're interested in 18k, 24k, and jade jewelry this place is probably my favorite jeweler that I've found so far in the Portland area. Disregard what a previous review in 2014 said about their "small" inventory. Their inventory is actually quite large, especially compared to similar stores like Ngoc Vi in the SF Market plaza. They have a ton of very high-quality stuff. I came in today interested in a gold bracelet and the lady working here explained all the different options that I had. She took the time to show me different styles, worked within my budget, and didn't make me feel awkward about having a smaller budget like how other jewelry stores will. They're very flexible here and want to work with you to get you what you want. I wanted a bracelet, they didn't have the exact thing ready-made so they offered to make it for me by turning a necklace into a bracelet. With that said I would encourage you to please ignore the other recent 1-star review (it honestly seems like the case of someone who just can't do basic math or reasoning). These are very honest and easy to work with people at Van Tin. I ultimately ended up not buying anything today but I'm definitely coming back in the next few weeks for that bracelet. P.S. So glad I stopped in here. I needed a good local jeweler to assemble a charm bracelet for me. I was able to send them pics online and they responded quickly with a quote and time to meet. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The grandma who sits behind the center glass is a delight, so sweet and friendly. They also bought some gold pieces I had, so I was able to pay for the bracelet and have enough left over for a future purchase or cash (I chose the former.) I came in for a quick chain repair on my 24k gold necklace that I've had since childhood and wore everyday, as many reviews said, he told me he needed it overnight. I asked him to weigh the chain before I left, 11.65 grams. I came by the next day and he made a beautiful link repair, before I was being hushed out I asked him to reweighed it, 11.04 grams. He blamed it on cleaning, upon further inspection he obviously shaved off over half a gram off the spine of the clasp. Great work but don't let the jewelry out of your sight. They watched your every move, very closely, very insecure, what can two guys and one little me can do? I had a really positive experience. A friend of mine told me about this jeweler and shared that they and their family have been going here for a long time, and how their prices are competitive in comparison to other Asian jewelry shops in Portland. I met with the jeweler and his wife. They were very nice and helpful - considering how Asian businesses can have a reputation for being curt. I think sometimes that Americans aren't used to how other countries might place priority for efficiency and quality over customer service. Anyway, I found them to be delightful and answered all my questions. I needed 3 necklaces to be repaired and to switch out and also add some new charms to my gold charm bracelet. Holy moly, I didn't know how much the price of gold shot up in the last few years. I didn't try to haggle them to a cheaper price, I felt like they were offering me a decent quote for what I wanted. I was able to get my charm bracelet completed that day and it only took a week to get the necklaces repaired. They have limited hours and heavy security systems for their building, which is not uncommon for stand alone jewelry shops. If I needed jewelry repairs in the future I would definitely come back to them. read more

Unethical family business, prices are too high compared to other Asian jewelers store in Portland. they will charge you a 3% fee to use your Credit/Debit card for purchases, so you are basically forced to use CASH.
