The lady at the front desk was very friendly. Our room was easy to find, but the parking lot is TIGHT. Be cautious if you have a larger vehicle. One thing that really irritated me - they advertise as pet friendly, and when I called to book, I specified that we needed a pet friendly room and was happy to pay the pet fee. When we arrived, we found that all the grass on the property had been ripped out - maybe they're updating it or something, I don't know. but they really should mention that. It was a real pain finding somewhere for my dog to do it's business - our options were a) in the parking lot or b) in the dirt. I just wish they had mentioned that there was no green space available. Oddly enough, the BEST part of our stay doesn't even exist according to their website. In the FAQs for the hotel it says that there is NOT a pool onsite, but there is. It is an outdoor heated pool and it was INCREDIBLE. The water was so warm, it was really lovely to float around in for a bit before bed.

Definitely not a hotel in the true sense, but far less costly than interior Vancouver stays. Great breakfast as well. Would recommend staying here, especially if you prefer to avoid the crowded, more expensive hotels.

Great location ~ within close walking distance to a couple shopping malls, grocery store across the street, a couple nice Italian and ramen restaurants with a couple blocks. The pool and sauna was clean and fun to unwind in the water for this winter stay.

And at the Element Vancouver, that is what we got. "Welcome you two to the Element Vancouver", no haggling over small details. We found our way to our room quickly, and soon appreciated the Element's proximity to Burnaby's many restaurants. You do realize that you are effectively in a major city, with ambulances carousing down Kingsway seemingly at all hours, and the elevators seemed to take forever to 'latch on' to their destination floors, but overall the experience was a positive one. Front desk staff friendly and able to provide with extra supplies. Free breakfast had plenty of fixings, and we had a friendly lady named Crystal give us some of the details of the building during one happy hour. The pool was nice, if a bit overrun by the hockey crowd on the Saturday we were there. Otherwise there were plenty of resources, and the washing and drying machines kept us from having to do laundry on our trip back to San Francisco. Well done, Element Vancouver!

We paddled for 6 days and camped for 5 nights. The scenery and whale watching aspects of the trip were excellent. The camps were comfortable and well supported by occasional re-supply from the base back in Port NcNiell. The camp on Sophia Island was particularly well appointed with already set tents, cots and a nice kitchen and sitting area. The food prepared by our guide was excellent and hearty. I would certainly recommend this group for paddlers of all levels of experience.

We learned a lot from him and enjoyed spending some time getting to know him. Our guide, Korry, was also excellent. He was also friendly and welcoming and made sure we were well fed and had a good time. There is never a guarantee of finding specific wildlife when you are out in the wild, but Larry and Korry knew the animals behaviors and made sure to stay up to date on recent patterns and updates from all the other local teams in order to give us the best chance to see orcas, humpbacks, eagles, seals, and lots of other wildlife while out kayaking. Even if we didn't see any whales the entire time, it still would have been a great trip. However, we did see lots of orca and humpbacks during our time. They even came right by our island one evening, where we could see them from our dinner table and hear them while sleeping in our tents. I highly recommend going with Larry and Discovery Expeditions. We hope to make another trip in the future.

I think I expected the room to be a bit nicer considering the lobby is so nice. Rooms were plain, had a mini fridge, no microwave. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was small, and door barely swifts past the toilet. Location is close to the mall, restaurants, drive into downtown. I do appreciate not having to pay for parking.

The bathrooms have a lot of toilet tissue on the floors and they have signs that ask them to be notified if it's not clean but I didn't have time to wait. I didn't take a shower because there wasn't a lot of space to put my stuff down in a clean area. The bathrooms are shared, but they do have a really great mirror to put on make up. Extremely cramped living quarters with very little space to put luggage down. They require you to buy a lock for $8.95 if you want to stow valuables and it's a big bulky lock, that's heavy and you probably don't want to buy (wish they would rent the locks because I have no other use for this bulky thing). The worst part is the stairs... It would be a great work out, except that it's super annoying when you have heavy luggage to carry upstairs multiple flights of floors. There is no elevator, there is no AC, you better arrive tired because it's pretty loud at night. This hostel is 3 stars imo but I gave them an extra star because their staff is super friendly, it's a good location, their breakfast is convenient (fresh bagels with fruits and vegetables), and Vancouver needs more budget-friendly options.

I'm a very calm, sweet and good looking young woman and I'm not going to be humble about it. There was no reason for that bald male receptionist to be that rude to me given all the sketchy ppl that usually go to Ocean Beach. If you're a nice female customer, I would look for a safer location, and would never put your safety at risk on that place. The customer that was there was looking at me like he wanted to apologize for the receptionist's rudeness. It was really bad. I understand that ppl are not allowed inside to see the place for safety issues, but there are way kinder ways of saying it to a potential future customer. I can't stand when people in low paid jobs act like they have power (small power) and decide to be rude to kind people like me, and they do that with a big and ugly gummy smile on their faces. It's so petty!
