Not only was he 30 minutes late for the appointment, but he decided to text me after the appointment was cancelled, which is completely inappropriate. Don't go here and definitely don't book with Ryan, completely unprofessional and rude. Not only was he not on time and the shop was not even open when my friend arrived for his appointment but he decided to text him nearly a half hour after the scheduled appointment asking where the client was. My friend explained he showed up on time and no one was there nor was it open so he left and he said 'that's not how that works and don't waste my time'. Very rude and unprofessional. How about you show up to your own appointment on time or even early and not waste clients' time, especially with a pointless text 30 minutes later merely to try to intimidate and gas light a person. SHORT STORY: DONT BOOK WITH RYAN. My name is Evan, and I went to this barbershop to get a clean up for my graduation in a few days. I made an appointment with Ryan Alexander, at 2:15 I hopped up on the chair and we made our introductions. I said that I didn't want to change my look too much, and that I just wanted a low taper on the sides, and a trim down the back. Ryan said okay and asked exactly what blade did I want for the taper, I said one, assuming that he would do maybe a half inch with that blade because I asked for a low taper. He faced me against the wall and got to work. Ryan cut the side of my head with no taper, just a straight shave, with a one. He proceeded to cut my hair on the top shorter than I wanted to as well. Without touching the back of my head. He gave me a mullet. I did not want a mullet. After about 15 minutes of my feedback and him struggling to cut my hair, I decided to just pay him and leave, since he was starting to get angry about keeping his other clients waiting. Before I was able to get out of the chair, he said "Yeah, now pay me and get the f*** out of the store." I was confused my the attitude since I was respectful to him the entire time. Even when I was giving him feedback on my hair. Never once raised my tone, or gave off the impression that I was angry at him. After I got off the chair we had a back forth argument a little bit. I was trying to explain what I was frustrated with, and he was shutting me out. All the while telling me to pay for the cut. I had my card in my hand. He then said if you don't stop talking "I'm gonna slap the f*** outta you." That's when I told him that I am 17. He didn't respond to that and kept the same attitude, escalating the situation while I was trying to deescalate it. DO NOT BOOK WITH RYAN. He was awful, I didn't get the cut I wanted, he started being aggressive and raised his tone in an unprofessional way. All I wanted was to look fresh for my graduation, what I got, was a deformed taper, and an unfinished mullet. This is a toxic work environment. Be careful. read more

Set up online appt 4/23 for 1:45 with Chaz got text/e mail confirmation only to be told at 1:30 when I walked in oh hes left already checked e mail to verify it was on 4/23 & yes it was in fact at 1:45 so not a problem yet.....only to discover he had apparently canceled my appointment saying he was leaving at 2....remember I rolled in at 1:30 its a military thing 15 minutes early is on time. So extremely disappointing you have 1 chance at a 1st impression and this was a failure...cherry on top was then got a text at 2:20 that my 1:45 appointment has been canceled, so thanks for letting me know after the fact. read more

This is my fourth visit to Vancouver Barber Company and specifically with Zach. I will not be going anywhere else as long as I live in the Vancouver/Portland area. Zach's cuts are the best I've ever had but, more importantly this is such a laid back place and so comfortable. Excellent place! Recently moved to the area from Florida and finding a good barber was a high priority. Tried a few places in Portland, but they were too far and time consuming given the traffic from Vancouver, and the shops in Vancouver as a whole just haven't been great. As an African American, I'm pretty particular with my hair as most barbers don't seem to get it right. At VBC, they got it right. Hanif has been a great barber. I love the appointment aspect so I can basically just walk in at my designated time and almost always just hop into the chair. They are extremely professional and customer driven. I've made Hanif my new barber and would gladly recommend him as a skilled barber. read more

My husband just came back from there dejected and frustrated without a haircut. After making a few unanswered phone calls to them, he decided to drive down and walk in and they weren't very nice to him. He was told to make an appointment online or come back 5 1/2 hours later. He will probably never try to go back. I hate seeing him upset (which doesn't happen easily). It's a barbershop, there should be walk-in availability within half an hour.
