I waited outside the store like an idiot for 15 minutes trying to call again. She never came. Don't know how good she is at cutting hair, I left 10 minutes into when my appointment was scheduled for without any communication from her. So I'm writing this review because I was looking on yelp for a potentially new barber more local to my house and after reading the reviews and seeing the prices I am utterly appalled I go to barber stars in Gresham pay 50.00 flat for a #3 mid/high fade with a taper at the base and never have I seen someone take advantage of the city in such a way. I'd bet this woman is a con woman because cash is fine when you 1st start out your business but after a year it only looks like she is trying to dodge her taxes by using cash only . I won't be coming here and would suggest this woman stop what she is doing because your wrong and at some point it might even become a legal problem for you. Good luck read more

I stopped in on a whim. The owner Nadia did my haircut and shave. Have to say I was very disappointed. For one, the shave was really bad. Irritated my skin and I realized in the car she missed some spots on my chin. Haircut was good but the price. $35 for the haircut normally, $40 since I'd had pretty long hair. And another $40 for the shave. So $80... CASH ONLY. Which was conveniently not mentioned. TIPS: Under new ownership since 2021. Read the other "Newest Reviews" - not the "Yelp Sort". Yelp should start this whole thing over that reflects the new ownership. Here is our experience: My son stops in for a haircut. He is 19 & has very little money. He expected to pay around $30. He has straight hair - nothing difficult. Halfway through the cut - the lady owner asks if he wants his neck cleaned up; facial hair (basically has fuzz at his age) & eyebrows. He assumed that was included - as she didn't say it was extra. At the end, she tells him "That'll be $95 & I only take cash"... WHAT? So she says she charged him extra for his long hair - and $45 to trim the fuzz on his face, eyebrows & neck!! He only had $70 in his wallet. So, she allowed him to use his debit card for the rest. Both my mother (78) & my sister are beauticians - so I know what is a good haircut and what is a bad one. Neither relatives were available for him at the time. When I saw his haircut - I noticed that the lady didn't even layer his hair. She chopped it all up on top (that takes zero skill). The only thing that looked even was where she used the electric trimmer. Needless to say, he is very embarrassed to be taken advantage of. I went in a couple days ago to get a haircut and was impressed with the service I received. I haven't been to one barbershop that gave me the full grooming treatment before. Not only did Nadia do an excellent job cutting my hair but she gave me a full shave and used a hot towel to remove all the excess hairs. She then topped that off by using a beard serum that left a nice shine on my face! My 3 sons have gone to the Barber's Pole for years, but this was our first experience with the new owner, Nadia. We had a 9am appointment, but she was almost 20 min late. The haircut is passable (I am going to have to trim and blend the side better) and not close to the quality and care we got from Dave. It cost $25 plus another $5 because "his hair was so long." My son's hair was not very long (three fingers on top, max, less on the sides), as I had been cutting it regularly during covid times. She spent no more than 15 min on his haircut. Prices are not posted, and when I tried to pay by credit card, she asked for cash and gave me change from her wallet. She told us he needed to come back in 5 weeks, (or else she'll charge us more?). Very unprofessional, and I am sad that she gets to profit from Dave's hard work and years of excellent reviews. We will NOT return. Though he was happy with my haircuts, my son had wanted a cut from Dave before a special event. Now he is embarrassed and wishes he had just stuck with mom. Upon leaving I was sitting in my car trying to figure out where to go. Guy coming out told me he did me a favor. That I should go to Royal instead. It was my first time there because of YELP. Well on Saturday it happened, my husband had enough of my son looking like a microphone and decided he was going to take him to get a haircut we checked out some places on yelp and settled on the barber pole and we are so glad we did. the barber was professional took care of our son, and gave him a great haircut despite all his fidgeting he is six years old after all. One star is too generous. Went to Gary (the Butcher) for a 2nd time (left a BIG tip the first time). I said cut it short and he proceeded to buzz cut me like the beginning of Full Metal Jacket. During the "haircut" he blew his nose multiple times without washing his hands-very disgusting. "You said you wanted it short". This is a place that every man who appreciates having a positive place for men to hang out together will appreciate. It is a vintage 3-chair barber shop where you can get a great men's cut and straight-razor shave. It is a place. The barbers not only knew most of their clients by name but were immediately able to banter with them about their lives. There was real community there. That is such a rare find for men especially. A great old school rock soundtrack played in the background and the quality of the haircuts and shaves were top notch. You really have to check this place out. read more

My son did not have a good experience. The picture on this page indicates a haircut and shave is $40...yet my son was charged $75...for a regular haircut and a regular shave, nothing fancy. CASH ONLY. He had to leave his cell phone behind while he left to get cash. There were four other men who were doing the same thing at the time he was there. When he called ahead, there was no mention of the CASH ONLY requirement, nor any mention of a long wait. Deceptive business practices rarely win long-term customers. read more

I have been here a few times and haven't had a great experience. The tools are way to sharp for my neck and often leave marks. Too much pressure with the straight as well. The cuts just are way shorter than I ask for even when I show a picture of my own hair how I like it. Just feels rushed which might explain my experiences. Great bunch of guys and cool environment though. I'd say if you really don't care much about your cut then come here because the guys are great. This review is mostly for the barber David. I did get my hair cut a few times by Jim. While his cuts were pretty good, my neck skin got tore up by trimmers he was using and I was nervous to try with him again. I never had my hair cut by Gary. By no means is this review anything derogatory towards these gentlemen because they are all great guys. I just wasn't happy with my service I'd received which is why I gave it two stars. Very Bad Experience! Nadia the new owner is giving an ok haircut but she doubled the price. The sign with the price list is no longer there. Each time i went the price was different I miss Dave and Gary who use to work here before. She also would not take my credit card like the old owners, cash only? That sounds very fishy to me, sorry. BAD EXPERIENCE! I called to set up an appointment and was able to get in as soon as I had gotten there. Nadia, the owner/barber and 20 years of experience, asked me how I heard about the place and if it was my first time? I stated that I live in the area and had seen the location before but yelp helped me get my foot in the door. After not so many good experiences with past cuts, it made it harder to find one that works for me. She hoped that I would make this my regular location. When getting started she asked for me to remove my over the ear mask, which I did not feel comfortable with, and I asked to keep it on. She continued to offer a beard shave, even after telling her NO more than twice. She stated that my kind of hair cut, short on the sides and back and long on top, recommend that I come back once a month...I understand wanting return business but you asking me to come back before you have even cut my hair is just....sales, not an experience making me want to come back. After getting done I had offered to pay with card to which she told me there would be an extra charge for, I'm ok with that and asked if I could leave a tip on there as well and was told yes. After looking at the card reader device she stated she would need to call and get it set up and if I could just run to an atm to get cash instead....I stated that is ok and I had to leave something to make sure I returned. I found an atm across the way and was able to get back in less than 5 min to which I could only pull out $60 for a $45 bill. I gave her the money and she gave me her business card to come in again.... I waited for my change and receipt but I had to ask her for my change back and she asked me how much I would like back?? I'm not sure I have ever been asked that. If you do read this Nadia, Never assume that all my change is your tip. You give the full amount in change to the customer and they leave you a tip amount based on your sevice and their experience. I still left a tip just for the cut alone but will never and I do mean NEVER come back there based on my experience. read more

Dave has sold the shop as of Dec. 2020. I think the new owner is exploiting Dave's old customers and his business's good name. Be sure to ask what the charges are; a sliding scale is used and costs are not displayed. New owner is Nadia (unsure of spelling). A good haircut and beard trim and excellent conversation, but the price was very high, $80. Nadia was not upfront on costs (FULL DISCLOSURE: I did not ask and she did not say; I have never paid more than $50 and that was for a full straight edge razor shave and haircut). I had not been in for a cut for 14 months so hair was about 14 months long. I sat and got a haircut just as I had at other barbers. She buzzed off the excess, scissor trimmed the top and blended in the sides, 20 min (typical from my experience). She asked if I wanted a beard trim, I said sure. She trimmed (10 min) and finished it off with a nice straight edge to clean the lines (I didn't ask for that), 15 min. I was there at 9 am, she was late, but hey that didn't bother me...the price did. I had to leave something of value with her while I ran to the debit machine to get cash because I didn't have $80 in my wallet and she only accepted cash. I asked her why so expensive and she told me, "because I hadn't been in for over a year and the hair was long; it takes longer to cut long hair." It seemed pretty typical amount of time for the haircut to me. The beard trim was extra effort for sure. I asked what she charges for a haircut every month - $25, every 2 months - $30, every 3 months - $30, every four months...I never did get what the price breakdown was for my 14 month haircut and the price for the beard trim, collectively its $80. Although, she gave me a discount, so I only paid $75, thanks Nadia. Not recommended for someone who likes an old school barber. I will go downtown to the hipster guys and drink beer while I wait for that price. Although you could shave/cut most of your hair off before going in to save money. I drive about an hour just to get a hair cut by Gary. He can do faux hawks, awesome fade work, and knows how to cut asian hair. Make sure you make an appointment as it gets pretty busy. My boyfriend has been here 3 times and each time the service has declined. Despite telling the barber the cut he would like, 2 on the side medium fade and tapered and bangs trimmed, he's always come home with an uneven cut and the opposite of what he was going for. This last time, January 28th, he came home with HORRIBLE razor burn all over his neck, which has lasted a week even after treating it with apple cider vinegar and baking soda, and the worst haircut yet: his hair line got cut straight 2 inches up his neck, the edges were not cleaned up, and the back has uneven layers. Writing this review post my second haircut with beard trim and straight bladed razor shave at this location. Figure I can give them a fair review at this point. Like a relaxed barber who doesn't talk a ton? Gary's a calm and easy going dude who does good work. Want an outgoing dude to talk to a bunch? Dave seems to be the talkative type and definitely knows what he's up to. Gary was the barber for both of my Haircuts. He seems quite knowledgable, and I've gotten a lot of compliments afterwards every time so his work surely shines. I've been to a few meh barbers around the country, and then some nicer ones... and this is amongst the nicer ones for service. They do good work for sure and are recommended for a reason. I was looking for a barber who had no issue cutting my hair (as a lesbian) and found David here on Yelp. From the minute I walked into this shop nearly 9 months ago, I was welcomed with open arms. David not only provides the best hair cut I've ever received, but he also is quite entertaining. Gary is the other shop barber, and although he has never cut my hair, I have seen his work and he does amazing work. These guys are really good at what they do and actually care. About 30 seconds goes by and he says, "you just need to make an appointment for next week, I'm done after this cut and don't have time for you, it's to bad."
