We got to Vander Hamm before they were open for business. They came to the door and after I told them of our dilemma, they asked us to pull the car to the bay so they could take a look. I have been using this team of professionals for over 20 years for consistently great service. 20 years of cars for me includes the vehicles my children drove, new cars, used cars and loaners of many makes and models. There is no mechanical issue they have not solved. The prices are more than reasonable and you will always be offered cheaper alternatives if available. My son goes to school in Davis, and when his Jeep started making funny brake noises, I called and asked Blaine if they would take a look at it. I explained that I had just installed new brakes, and thought it was a stuck caliper. I just wanted to make sure it was safe for him to drive home. He offered to take a look at it, the very same day, and when they couldn't reproduce the noise, they wanted to keep it overnight (the noise only occurs when it's cold first thing in the morning). My son wanted to drive back to the Bay Area, so he picked it up. We agreed that it was safe to drive. They didn't charge me anything. I can't think of how this scenario could have been any better. As I was getting ready to leave for a trip to Berkeley I realized I had a low tire. Since we had just gotten back from a 900 mile drive I was worried we had picked up a nail or something. I drove over without an appointment and even though I could tell they were super busy they helped me out...even sending someone to Sacramento to get the 2 new tires I needed since the day's delivery had already come in. And because Blaine wouldn't sell me tires that were more expensive than I needed for my amount and type of driving. I had a flat tire and advised to check with Vander Hamm to see if the tire could be patched up to avoid driving home to Roseville on the spare. There was a blade in my tire and thought for sure I would have to buy a new one which I expected would take forever since it was after I got off work. I went to Goodyear Tires for a new set of tires on my CRV. They were very helpful when it turned out that I didn't have to key for my locking lug nuts. They actually contacted the Honda dealer and made arrangements to drive over there and get the lug nuts removed using a universal key, putting on non-locking ones. Honda indicated that I would have to come in to order a new key. After Goodyear replaced my tires, I then went to the Honda dealer to order a new key. Amazingly, they were able to find a key that fit. I returned to Goodyear asking them if they could replace the locking lug nuts since I now had a key. They acted like it was no problem and I was out of there in about 5 minutes. They didn't even charge me extra for any of the extra work entailed in dealing with the locking lug nut situation. These guys were very nice and really seemed to care about doing a good job and doing what they can to help the customer out. Plus, my tires are really great - quiet, smooth ride and I couldn't be happier! Thanks, Goodyear! read more

We've been using Vander Hamm exclusively for about 5 years (even when we didn't live here), recommended to us by long-time Davis residents who'd been using the for many years before that. They have excellent customer service and I've always felt they do excellent work and never upsell. When we bought a new car 2 years ago I made sure they could service the make/model we were interested in. We've used them for all regular servicing, a couple sets of tires, and a couple big repairs. They also did a same hour nail patch on a Monday morning. I can't think of any reason I'll ever take our cars anywhere else. read more

Amazing customer service! I came in 15 minutes before they were closing, expecting to just get a question answered and be told to schedule an appointment for Monday. They researched my needs, replaced my tires and then even gave me better tires for a lower price because they didn't have enough of the price they quoted me. New tires and out the door in 30 minutes. Very good service. Very good price. Hard working people who are good at what they do. I had an appointment at 11 I showed up around 930 just to get the car there so I could do other things at 11 and they snuck me in right away. I had an oil change, tire rotation and balance and was out the door by 10. Everything done an hour before my appointment was supposed to start. I don't usually review businesses unless they truly suck or have done something outstanding but I was shocked by how honest these guys are. My tire had a nail in it so I took it in so they can remove the nail and patch the tire. Their guy said they do about 20 of these jobs a day and they would call me later that day. During the call, they told me they removed the nail but it was too short to pierce the tire so a patch wasn't necessary. As a result, the service was free and I didn't have to pay anything. They actually sent me to the dealership for the work and I sincerely appreciated their honesty. So when I needed new tires last week, this is the place I came to. This is the place you should go for service in Davis. The associates are honest and reasonable. I went in, based on the high reviews, to see about repairing a tire that seemed to be loosing air. In the end they didn't find a leak, but it wasn't for lack of effort. They let me know the entire 3 step process for checking a leaking tire, and when they did not find any evidence they put a new pin in just in case the other was faulty, at no cost. Not only were they honest and did not charge me for the labor when the tire turned out to be okay, but they replaced the pin. I was very impressed by the service and the quality-checks this shop goes through, especially compared to the other places I've gone before. They have well earned my repeat business, and I'd refer anyone to this shop. read more

These people are the real deal! Came in originally wanting to replace the 2 completely bald tires on my BMW X5, and Blaine explained to me that my back tires were also really close to needing to be replaced, and explained to me that I could potentially damage the drivetrain on the car if I only replaced the front 2. He even recommended for me to call BMW in case I wanted more information about what he was talking about. He gave me many options for my vehicle and was VERY knowledgeable. I dropped my car off at 2PM, and they said they will have my car ready by 5PM (30 minutes before closing!!) Considering that my tires usually have to be ordered due to the weird size, I was surprised they could get it done that fast (since most places told me to expect 24-72 hours)! Not only that, but they also drive home and pick up if you're like me and dont have anyone that can transport you! I was glad to not have to uber or try to take the bus! They went above and beyond to make sure I got my car as soon as possible, something not all places are willing to do. I HIGHLY recommend Vander Hamm Tire Center, and will be coming here in the future if needed! Great hard working, honest people! read more
