This is hands-down the best auto shop I've ever patronized. For me, the biggest issue when it comes to auto care is trust. Without much car expertise, one has to believe the service provider more than in most routine commercial dealings. The Vander Hamm guys have been really honest with me. Once while getting an oil change, I told them I thought the cabin air filter might need replacement. Slam dunk for them, right? When I returned for the car, they said they checked the filter and it didn't need replacement. They have never pitched more service than I asked for. Realized I had a flat tire around 5pm on a Friday, and needed to get back home to Sacramento from Davis. These guys fit me in before closing, and got my spare tire off, helped me purchase a new tire, install that new tire, and check the pressure in all my tires, in just under 15 minutes. Still the best place in Davis! My last oil change I went to a new place because it was within walking distance to my apt on Olive Drive at the time, and I regretted it. My car takes conventional or synthetic, and I've always just used conventional. The other place put synthetic in without asking me first, I just knew when I got the much higher bill. Then I tried to do my own oil change, and after already putting new oil in, I realized they had tightened the filter cap past the point of a laymen's abilities to take it off, even with one of those specialized wrenches. I took it to Vander Hamm to get a scheduled maintenance checkup and loosen the cap, and they changed my oil filter for no charge when I explained what had happened. read more

I took my pristine Mercedes 240DL in for a tire rotation. Upon completion, i got in my car and realized they had punctured a hole in my leather seat. They never mentioned it to me, when I brought it to their attention, they immediately denied it. After much conversation, my husband noted an awl in the tire guys back pocket. Needless to say, they got to replace my leather seat. They were unprofessional about this issue and I will never return. read more

I took my car in yesterday because it was overheating. They spent 4 hours on it, trying to find the leak in the coolant system. Unfortunately, they were not able to find the leak, so they referred me to the Honda dealer. They didn't charge me for the time that was spent on my car. !!! I just had a slow leak in a tire patched here. Based on a quick search for any tire stores in the Davis area that would be open at 7AM, I picked Vander Hamm. I actually showed up at around 6:45AM, and they were kind enough to let me in and start work immediately. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes and cost $22.70. I know my tires are nearing end of life, so I was very impressed when the gentleman who helped me not only DIDN'T try to sell me tires, but also gave me some recommendations on how to get more life out of the current ties. I took my car here thinking that there may be a major break problem on one of my rear wheels. A friend told me that I may need new rotors and major break work. Another friend of mine recommended this place. When I took my car in Blaine took a quick look and told me that it was probably nothing major and that he could have it done by the end of the day! Two break pads and a resurfaced rotator later it was all done and not a major expense. To top off my great experience I rode my bike over to get the car and was there 5 min after closing. The whole place was closed down for the day but when Blaine was walking out he say me and invited me in to get my car. I really appreciate that he took the extra time to help me. These people are just, amazing. I came in to get my tire fixed because it just exploded on the freeway. Here I am, some broke college student with no Idea about cars and I am yelping all these places trying to figure out what to do. I called around and this place quoted me the cheapest price. I come in at about 1:10pm or so and the gentleman at the front was very nice and told me that they would take a look at my tire and see if they could fix it and pointed me out to the waiting area, which was actually very comfortable. About 5 minutes pass he comes by and lets me know that there was no way they could fix it and quoted me what they quoted over the phone to replace. ( I knew my tire was not going to be fixable and was very happy he asked me before he started doing other work to it). Around 1:20 he comes by and let's me know that my car is good to go and I am all set, paid the man and my car runs perfect again. I don't think I have had great service like that in a while, and I work for customer service, I know genuine customer service when I see it.. Since then I have not had any problems with my car and everything is as it should. This placed turned my horrible experience into a great one! I can't find a word to describe "Vander Hamm Tire Center." They are just so extraordinary. I know I am being a annoying costumer because I am just so worried about being messed up. I email more than 10, and each of them is being responded in short time and patience. The price is amazingly good. I bought my own parts and charged for only 39$ for the oil change plus the inspection of fluids and shocks. About 2 years ago, the Firestone told me the car had shock leaking, and asked me for 500 bucks to repair. However, after this shop's free inspection, the shocks turned out to be in good shape! Big shout out to their honesty!! For anyone seeing this comment, don't hesitate just go. They are probably the most honest car shop you may ever meet. Doesn't matter if you know cars or no, they will take care of your car with no fraud. Anyway, really thanks the Vander Hamm Tire Center. I will go there for any car issues. read more

Convinced I had the correct tire size based on research online, I called in to Vanderhamm Tire Center to schedule an appointment. Turns out, of course, I didn't give them the right size. They didn't have the correct-sized tires (in the same price range) on-site, and though I would've gladly waited while they made the trip to their storage facility, they gave me the slightly more expensive ones they had on-hand instead. They provide free tire rotations for the life of the tires you've purchased from them. Bottom line: great customer service over-the-phone and in-person, reasonable prices, and punctual service. read more

When purchasing tires, Vander Hamm Tire Center fit me in the same day. However, although I paid the $15 extra per tire for the rotation/balance program, every time I call to go in for this prepaid service, they cannot fit me in--they are booked 2 weeks in advance and have no flexibility. I wanted to support local business, so I tried Vander Hamm, but it is not worth it. I will go back to using Les Schwab in West Sacramento or Woodland next time I need new tires--they always got me in the same day when I needed a balance/rotation services and were very flexible. read more

Everytime i've had a flat tire they've patched my tire right up. Some other places tell you they aren't able to patch run on flat tires and that you'll need a replacement. These guys tell you if they can and every time they've done a wonderful job. Very professional and fast service. read more

I ordered a replacement wheel for my car in the morning, and the part was available on the same day. All I had to do was give them a call, give them the year of my car along with what part I need, and wait for them to call me and tell me that it's ready. Had a blow-out on 80. I got on Yelp to find the nearest tire shop. I gave them a call, they checked inventory to make sure they had a tire for me, gave me great directions and we arrived 15 minutes later (on an almost flat spare!). We were in and out within about 20 minutes. They even reinflated my spare and put all the parts of the jack back into their place. We've come here many times and they are always super fast and friendly. They usually only take about a half hour to put new tires on and they have a decent waiting area. When my tire split as I had just entered the freeway, I was still able to drive it slowly to Vander Hamm and they put on 2 new tires in 20 minutes. Just came back from a brake inspection! Let's rewind to why I visited. My brakes were making some rumbling noise when I was coming to a complete stop when I was in SJ. As a worried car owner, I brought my car in for an inspection. I was in the car with an employee, Cliff, who drove around to see if my car can make the same sound I heard. Although my car didn't make the same sound, he told me he was going to check it out anyway. They called me when my car was ready, but they invited me into the working area so Cliff can give me a visual learning experience about my brakes and the concerns for them.
