We had a good experience purchasing a car at Hanlees Toyota in Davis. It was a bit of a last minute thing. A friend of a friend needed to purchase a new car and had planned to purchase in Elk Grove, where they were given the lowest price. However, since we were giving this person a ride as a favor, I really didn't want to drive all across town if I didn't have to. So I decided to call Hanlees, which was the Toyota dealership closest to the car purchaser. I think Luiz answered the phone and I told him the car we were interested in. He listened to the details and then said he would talk to their general manager, a guy named Laith. A few minutes later, Laith gets on the phone with me. Wow, I didn't expect to talk to the GM of a dealership, which was pretty cool! Long story short, Laith agreed to a set price for the vehicle if we could make it to the dealership before closing that evening. Even though it was Halloween and the mosquitoes were out in full force that evening, we did actually make the drive out to Davis! Met Salesperson Ricardo when we arrived, who was also awesome. Got to test drive the car and then the friend decided she wanted to take the car! Since it was so last-minute, we did ultimately have to go back the next day to finalize everything, but the process was pretty much seamless and stress-free (other than the experience with the finance guy....which was not pleasant. But I think this is common in dealerships nowadays. Either they don't pay the finance people enough or they get too high of a commission when they upsell warranties or they have too much stress imposed on them. But in a nutshell, if a customer declines the warranty, just move on. No need to pout or add extra pressure or make the customers feel guilty that you have to work late on Halloween....) Anyways, I digress. Luiz, Ricardo and Laith were great. There was also another individual we worked with on Halloween night who was wonderful too. I can't remember his name, but he was super flexible and chill. He might have been Ricardo's supervisor or boss. These 4 individuals made the car purchase experience a pleasant one. We brought a friend of ours here to buy a new Corolla Cross. After doing some research, she decided that she wanted this car. We called around to a few places and Hanlees had the lowest out-out-the-door price that was within her budget. We came here pretty late on Halloween and Ricardo met us. We took a look at the car that our friend was interested in. Ricardo explained all of the car's included features and then we all went for a test drive. All the while, during our interaction, there was no hint of any kind of pressure to purchase. Ricardo was just genuine in taking the time to answer all of our questions. It was kind of late as we were finishing up so with the contract signed, we would come back the next day so that our friend could pick up the car after being detailed. The next day, car pick up day, we met with Ricardo from the night before and also Luis. Luis was just as nice as Ricardo and both of them took the time to wait with us until the car was ready. From start to end, this was a wonderful car shopping experience. I love being able to go car shopping and help someone buy a new car. I'm not spending my own money, right? Took the Hanlees where they stated we needed a new catalytic converters, and once that was done, bring it back for diagnostics. New cats were put on by a shop they recommended. Broughit vehicle back to the dealership so they could complete diagnostics. After two days at the dealership, we finally called to get an update and they told us there was nothing they could do because we didn't put OEM cats on it. Despite them never telling us we needed OEM and it should not have made a difference as they were definitely legal and brand new. Getting the complete run around and being told multiple lies. I had a very bad experience here back in November and I posted a negative review. The service manager reached out to me, and offered to "take care of me" the next time I needed service. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, took down my negative review, went to my next scheduled service today, having coordinated with said service manager in advance; only to find that he wasn't there, and there was nothing done for me. Poor service and misdiagnose of my Rav4 Hybrid. Went in May 2023 for rodent damaging my windshield wipers wiring harness. Was fine until Nov 2025 when the wipers stopped working when I was driving in the rain in a remote area. Real dangerous. Brought it back to Hanlees Davis Toyota and they did a diagnosis and assured me it was not the wiring harness they fixed. I was skeptical. They told me to replace the wiper motor which I did at Novato Toyota since it was more convenient. One week later, wipers stopped working and Novato Toyota did their own diagnosis. They said it was the faulty wiring harness Davis Toyota installed and misdiagnosed. Davis Toyota gave me money back for repairing the wiring and diagnosis but not the wipers motors I didn't need which I paid $500 for. They didn't apologize, indicate concern, or show much care on putting me in a danger, wasting my time, and costing me money for the time I took off work to deal with this. [Which I felt that it may have affected the way I would be treated, or maybe it was because I looked young] I was taking a couple pics & vids, & was just waiting to get help because I was literally inside the showroom in front of tons of employees & none of the staff paid me no mind. 5 mins later, some lady approaches me & asks what I'm here for. I've obviously been looking at one vehicle the whole time, so I say this 4Runner right here. She has the nerve to ask, "How serious are you?" I wanted to spazz out because I felt that was extremely rude. I said, "I'm serious..." She wanted to talk about the vehicle as if I knew nothing about it & why they have it marked up because I wouldn't be able to find it for MSRP but keep in mind, I already have been searching up & down 100 miles from my location for a reasonable price. She told me let me see what I can do, since the car has been sitting for a while. She tells me to sit down & brings over the manager who basically told me to go elsewhere & buy the vehicle because he wasn't gonna sell it to me for MSRP & that it's only been on the lot for "two days." Dude wasn't even making eye contact like he had something better to do. I was like, alright cool! & left. The next morning, I drove to another dealer about 30 mins away from Davis. Treated with the utmost respect, & put a deposit down for the 4Runner that was in transit at the time. The next day, I noticed the price had dropped by $500 online, so I reached out again and finally received a quote. To my surprise, the new total was $15,183, which included a $1,495 warranty for paint and fabric--a service typically offered on brand-new cars, not used ones, and something I never agreed to. I asked for the unnecessary warranty fee to be removed, but they refused, stating that the final price would be $15,183--a full $3,183more than the advertised price. This experience felt like a classic bait-and-switch: poor communication, hidden fees, and an unwillingness to honor their own pricing.
