We used Mike, Dave and their team for a move from Connecticut to Illinois in late July and have nothing but great things to say about them. They treated everything like it was their own and were prompt and professional. Of all of our moves over 50 years this was hands down the best. We had very little time to plan the move but Mike and his team made it easy. They gave us as good a quote as possible beforehand based on the information we could give them. Dave arrived on time with Roberto and Edison and they did not stop working until the job was done. They were kind and patient and helped us with transporting boxes we packed ourselves (that were not going into storage) into our own cars. They kept a detailed account of the packing during the day and the job came in just under the original quote. I can't speak to the efficacy of the packing job since it will be a few months until we retrieve things from storage but based on my interactions with this company I expect any damage or concerns will be handled professionally. Be careful with this company. Be very clear, as one hand seems to not wash the other from the time you are sold until the time you talk to the scheduler and then when the moving truck comes. Vanguard is a broker and the truck that comes is not from Vanguard but hired by them. Ours is a long distance move. If you need a short delay from the time the truck is loaded until the time you arrive to your destination, the truck carrying all your stuff is then UNLOADED and stored and then put on another truck and then reloaded but they don't tell you that! If that were made clear we would have followed the loaded truck so there's no chance of another team handling everything in the move again and creating an opportunity for missing or broken goods. They get you with the low price, but go with a dedicated truck company that is being crystal clear about their process. read more

Detailed quote, on-time, and nice moving staff. 3 items broken/damaged and although minor, one item never addressed (I had to arrange for replacement), terrible bed stain fell under deductible, and the broken glass for patio table took 7 months to replace. I needed a Moving service asap. Within hours I spoke with Mike and we set up a free estimate. Dave walked me through the process & a date was scheduled for moving (I will add Part 1, I'm using them again in the near future!). Sunday came & 3 men came & broke their humps for over 7+ hours here then to my storage unit. I am a hoarder & there was a mess in every single room. They were KIND, PATIENT, PROFESSIONAL, FRIENDLY, HELPFUL, PACKED ITEMS WITH CARE & SAFETY. They were QUICK & EFFICIENT and my place was a disaster area. They cleaned up after themselves, put my doors back up, cleaned up my yard & left me with a clean house (that I wish I could stay in but can't) like it looked like when I first built it. And that is saying alot! You do not need to look any further than Vanguard Moving Services Group! I am a picky person with every area of my life, but these guys went beyond my expectations & are not only the best but actually are cheerful & enjoy what they do! I had done business with Vanguard in the past for minor storage needs. So, I decided to go with them for my intra-state move. Mike and Dave gave me a detailed and honest quote prior to the move. Dave came out to look at exactly what is being moved and gave me a price range based upon how much packing I did or didn't do beforehand. Although I thought we'd need a bigger truck, Dave's calculation turned out to be spot on. The crew arrived early, and worked incredibly hard. I've read reviews of other movers on Yelp taking smoke breaks, playing on their phones, and loafing. These guys were all business, and never missed a beat. They were fast, thorough in their packing and transportation, and didn't hesitate to ask questions along the way to may sure everything was going according to plan. I would absolutely hire this company again. The crew works very hard and they work smart without wasting time. We were extremely happy with Vanguard Logistics from the initial contact, working with the sales rep, Mike and Dick our mover. We moved from Plainville to Indiana. From having been quoted to all the information we received from Dave and Mike, we were well prepared as to what to expect for our move. Dick showed up at 8am sharp, just as he said he would. He and his team were extremely polite, professional and helpful. Dick explained everything that he was doing, where his stops were and where we were on his list to deliver. He told us he would deliver on Wednesday at 7 am and he was at our door on Wednesday at 7am . I have NOTHING but good things to say about this experience. I would use them in a heartbeat. Downgrading for one star for such a crazy response. I'm sorry Mike but: (1) Movers should know whether they moved something. If they don't know whether they moved a very large metal box they should be willing to help me find it free of charge. (2) If your estimate could double due to the 'short notice' of a week, you should disclose up front that you're really bad at estimating (totally fine, everyone has weaknesses--just be transparent). (3) You charged my credit card without giving me a final bill of sale or telling me the total (even though I specifically asked for this to happen). I don't think most credit cards honor those terms. (4) No, I don't think it's crazy to ask people to do six hours of work if your minimum billable amount is six hours. Are you insane? read more

They were very easy to work with. This is our 3rd move within the last 12 months and the last moving company that we used were 1)a rip off 2) damaged multiple pieces of furniture 3) hard to get in touch with and fought us all the way to get some sort of compensation. Needless to say we were hesitant about hiring another mover. Dave Anton came to the house, spent over an hour with us going over everything and was able to get us a reasonable quote the next day for the move. We had 3 other quotes that were close to Vanguard's but none of them spent as much time answering questions etc. Movers showed up on time and were really nice. They worked extremely hard and should be praised for that. Overall with moving being such a stressful event and me being 8 months pregnant, they made a normally horrible experience a good one! This company and its management are a disaster. Every single item of furniture was destroyed during the move. Over $500,000 in damage was incurred. A promised team of 4 ended up being two - who were not able to complete the unpacking that was paid for. The packing itself consisted of items being randomly thrown into boxes with little or no protection. Mike Speller's only response was to tell my daughter to go F**K herself. The parent company - National Van Lines - is no better to work with. Despite numerous promises to take care of these issues, nothing has actually been done. Fortunately, insurance covered the loss. The movers were friendly, professional and generally did a great job moving me into my new house. I've been so busy the past two weeks and just noticed that the movers scratched up the leg on a very expensive dresser they moved and put back together. They failed to tell me about the damage clearly caused by the move. They, however, had no trouble accepting my multiple hundred dollar tip. For this dishonesty, I could never and would never recommend this company. That's how it works guys! Kinda shameful! read more

Thieves! We caught them trying to steal some things and we put it back; then we come to find that they did steal one item - we thought it would show up at the other end, but it never did. The last thing you want is movers who steal! Stay away. read more

An unmitigated disaster. I would not recommend this company to my worst acquaintance. Very nice employees but absolutely mismanaged by management. Dave is a great smooth talker but full of ... They are not movers but part time employees that do moving. Boxes full of paper. Boxes full of items not wrapped. Need your shoes with your dining room sconces...? Absolutely destroyed an antique spinning wheel and rocking chair after being asked 3 times to wrap it up. To add no one pointed out they broke the spinning wheel and they took the rocking chair away . I am still missing things and hopefully their insurance policy is better than their work. Work their employees from 8 am till midnight. I could go on but I won't. I moved a 7000 square foot house on a recommendation from the realtor that sold it. Disaster and his last recommendation. Moving is both difficult and expensive but hopefully we can find a company we can trust. I receive 4 proposals from this firm that varied from 8500 - 9600 for the work (various packing options). At 11:30pm on the move date (after keeping us up till midnight the night before packing) I get handed a bill for $16,000 and asked to pay it on the spot. No they did not point out the amount just asked for a credit card. To me that is dishonest. So we have a company that is both incompetent and dishonest. hmmm need a mover? call someone else. p.s. I moved 2 weeks ago, still unpacking. The crew were hard working. I was concerned, they were lifting heavy furniture without using lifting straps. They shrink wrapped everything; I haven't found anything damaged, but I'm still unpacking; I'm doubtful. They came the day before to pack up 16 years of belongings (2 bdrms & a basement). The final price was more than the quote, but we didn't pack nearly as much as I thought we would. The owner called me the next business day and refunded close to $500. That was unexpected, we never complained about the extra cost. I found that to be admirable! He could have kept it; I wouldn't have known. I was happy to be in the new house at a reasonable cost. Do not use this moving company. They lost (broke? stole?) several of our items in a 3 mile move! And THEY packed up our whole house - all of our items were wrapped and boxed by them. Once they got their money that was it. Wouldn't return my calls.
