Bad experience. Be careful. Tech quoted $309 to do diagnose the problem. I decided to proceed. They came out, said I had a leak (which I already knew) and they needed to order parts. They then collected the $ and stopped communicating. Meanwhile, I have a plumbing leak and hole in my ceiling waiting and trying to get someone to communicate. It is unprofessional and caused me a bunch more work in addition to being out $309. read more

We just purchased a home and one of the issues identified during the inspection was an outdated water shut-off gate valve and a defective pressure regulator. Robert responded quickly on Yelp, guided me to the information he needed to provide an accurate quote and offered to send a plumber, Dave, out the next day (even though this wasn't an emergency). Dave showed up promptly and installed a ball valve and a new pressure regulator faster than I could Google, "what's the difference between a gate valve and a ball valve?" Our water heater was about 20 years old, and we were in the market to either continue with the tank or go tankless. I did a bunch of research, but our water heater location made a tankless a bit difficult due to the ventilation. We had several companies come out for estimates, and Dave from Vanguard talked to us about tank/tankless and what he would do in our situation. We ultimately decided to stick with a tank. Dave came out a few days later with a new 50 gallon tank and installed it in our tiny utility closet. Due to the new code for water heater he had to cram a bunch in there, but we ended up saving space since he was able to get it closer to the wall than it was before. In Vista the water bill comes through Vista Irrigation, every two months. I had a bill at end of 2022 that was higher than I expected, then first bill of 2023 was mammoth. Obviously a leak. Now some leaks will require a specialty outfit, but Vanguard said "let us have a look" and I decided to go with them. And guess what, Vanguard came through! Robert was the plumber, he confirmed the leak, did his checks, and darn if the culprit wasn't simply a toilet running that my old ears couldn't hear. Dave came out to fix a plugged toilet for which I paid him $125. That was on Thursday. On Sunday the toilet was reclogged. Monday morning I called and they sent Dave out again. I confirmed with the person on the phone that there would not be an additional charge and she indicated that unless it was apparent that something new had clogged the drain there would not be any additional charge. When Dave came, he looked at the toilet and said the charge would be another $125 and he proposed that he repeat what he had done on Thursday. I indicated that if the drain had been cleared correctly it should not be plugged again so soon. He said that their warranty is only for 3 days and since the call came in on the 4th day (despite the fact that the 3rd day was a Sunday when they were closed!). there would be a $125 charge. I had used Dave/Vanguard previously for more major service plus he was already in my house, it seemed that he would at least repeat the 1 minute snake process. He refused. I called the office and the owner apparently told him not to do it unless I paid an additional $125. I declined. This whole process took more time than it would have taken to put the snake in the toilet! Subsequently my neighbor used his snake and the issue was resolved. This verified that Dave's 1st attempt was incomplete. I will not use Vanguard again and will find a plumber willing to stand behind his work. read more

Thanks to Vanguard Plumbing for the professional and competent plumber sent to us. After having two major companies give us bids that were outrageous, we contacted Vanguard who sent Dave. The first company's quote for changing the kitchen sink faucet of $380.00 labor only and $120.00 each to replace hot and cold water valves. Vanguard charged $178.00 to change the kitchen faucet and $79.00 for each valve. And at no extra charge Dave inspected our toilets and valves and gave us pointers on maintenance we could do ourselves. This experience shows how important it is to shop around and not just accept the first bid. Robert came out promptly on a Saturday morning to diagnose our issue ... a water leak that soaked the kitchen walls and cabinets. He shut off the supply line, pulled out the dishwasher so we could see the source of the leak as well as the pond of water under the dishwasher, and he carefully documented all of the above via his notes and photographs. He also gave a great recommendation for a water damage remediation company to address the damage. Robert was able to determine that the problem was caused by an over-tightened connector on the dishwasher that had been installed six months earlier by the appliance retailer (the rubber washer inside the brass supply line connector was cut by the over-tightening, thereby creating a pathway for the water to slowly drip out).
