The second seemed too lax and wanted me to wait for two years for it to heal on its own. Dr. Primrose was my "just right" doctor! He suggested I wait a reasonable amount of time, and if it wasn't feeling better to come back for surgery. Dr. Primrose was very professional, didn't talk down to me, gave me all the information I needed and made me feel involved in all the decisions. The hospital staff really seemed to like him, out of earshot of him they praised his ability just before I went under anesthesia.

Preferably one that actually values their patients and makes any attempt to prioritize them. I am a veterinarian and can say that none of the patients I encounter are ever treated in the ways described below. For appts. I must take an entire sick day from work, driving over an hour each way to attend. Today I hit a minor delay before leaving, so while en route I called to ask if they would still take me despite being about 10 minutes late, but for an entire hour they did not answer the phone! When I arrived to the office 10 minutes late, there was a gigantic line, which took an additional 10-15 minutes to process. I was told it was too far past the grace period and they could not make any exceptions to still see me after pleading my case, so I was turned away. This is despite their inability to answer the phone, and inability to process a line of people promptly! I should mention that in prior appointments with them the wait time has been as long as 45 minutes after being checked in. What does this say to the patient? That OPA Ortho can perform terribly at their job, but as a patient you aren't allowed to suck even a little or you get kicked out. The arrogance is palpable. Immediately after my knee surgery, I had an area of extreme (10/10 pain) on my upper thigh that was not expected. I called in on an urgent basis, but did not hear back from anyone for 48 hours and it was only the medical assistant not one of the doctors. That is egregiously long to hear back for a serious post operative concern! I had undue amounts of emotional stress over this issue given its unknown nature, in addition to the terrible pain. It turned out that the tourniquet was too tight on my thigh and caused unnecessary trauma. It continued to be intensely painful for over a day. When I saw Dr. Khalfayan for a checkup appointment he seemed rather unconcerned that it even happened! Very poor marks for a medical establishment, and quite frankly they are lucky I have not pursued malpractice claim against them for it. Around 8-9 days post-op I had a sudden new intense painful swelling of my knee, which is not something I had been briefed on to expect (they generally said swelling should peak around days 3-5). This was concerning (for things like a potential infection) so I called in to the office after hours line early morning and spoke with a consulting Doctor who wasn't sure so they said they'd have Dr. Khalfayan's team call me back with instructions. I didn't hear back for the entire business day. I called first thing the next day but didn't hear from anyone until after the office had closed. So from the time of my original call to speaking with someone who could address the issue it was over 36 hours. About 3 weeks post-op, I had symptoms potentially consistent with a blood clot (thrombosis) including increased pressure in my knee and a very cold foot. This is something that requires rapid assessment as thromboses can become very serious and/or life threatening. When I called in to report the concern early morning, I didn't hear back from the office until almost the end of the day, when they advised that I should be seen immediately. Given how late it was I had no choice but to go to the emergency room, where I incurred enormous fees. If they had responded in a reasonable time frame, I could have potentially been seen in their office the same day, which would have been the best and most affordable place to be seen. Lastly, their billing department also seems to be incapable of correctly sending a claim with all the surgery charges to my insurance with the $5,500 that I paid upfront (out of pocket) for bone marrow injection included. The goal is to have my insurance review the bone marrow procedure to see if they might cover it, but insurance will deny the procedure if not sent as a batch claim with the other CPT codes. I have repeatedly requested they do this, but it still has not occurred. Throughout my pre and post-op appointments Dr. Khalfayan has demonstrated that he has absolutely no interest in how meniscal injuries occur. When asked about how my injury might have occurred, what biomechanics might have been contributory, how I bear weight, what muscles might be weak, etc., his response was simply "It's probably just bad genetics". Seriously? How does one become a specialist without having a better grasp of how the disease process is occurring (aka pathophysiology), so that they can work with patients to help prevent future reinjury?! It seems like a no-brainer that this should be part of what he covers with patients. Instead, he only has an interest in fixing things once they go bad. As a doctor myself I can't imagine having such a short-sighted view/understanding of a condition that I am treating. I truly hope for his patients' sake that he does better in the future in this regard.

I was worried that because they are so big and have so many patients that it would just be a repeat of last year's physical. 9:00 AM on a Wednesday I was checked in, processed, weighed, measured, and set for Dr. Transue to pop in not 3 minutes after I'd sat my butt down in a comfy chair they had in the exam room for me. I had about 5+ health questions for her, of which she answered EVERY ONE. Before we did anything else. And took her time with it. Not only that, but every time I mentioned something that previous doctors had nothing to say about, she immediately knew what I was talking about and was able to diagnose all of my ailments. She clearly had the know-how when it came to every question I had and it seemed like she was really listening to me. Just a few days after my appointment, my nose piercing got infected and I knew I needed medication but didn't want to go all the way back to the doctor. So I emailed Dr. Transue about it--and within ONE DAY she emailed me back and had sent in a prescription to my pharmacy. Conclusively, Dr. Emily Transue is the best medical experience that I've had to date in Seattle. A great doctor is a very important thing, and I've found mine!

On line is a great experience too, I had surgery with a completely different Dr. and a completely different facility but when I couldn't get a hold of them for advice and medication it was Dr. Transue that came to my rescue. When you're telling her things she is CONSTANTLY typing away in your record, at first I was a little concerned that she wasn't listening but the next visit 9ish months later she asked me follow up questions to things I had expressed concern about before. Also both of them called me and filled me in on the visit and made reasonable suggestions about things that could be done to improve our setup. (I had been at work but there is a licensed care giver with my wife when I am not there.) When the Speech Therapist (Rita) visited, she had my wife crying hysterically by telling her she needed to go back into a nursing facility. Rita denied saying this to me but the next day Signature had a Care Conference and made the decision to stop caring for my wife saying she needed to go back to a nursing facility. ** They didn't even bother to tell me about this decision! ** They didn't get any input from me. They did not talk to the nursing facility my wife had just come out of. They just called and told our Primary Care they were stopping treatment. A patient's mental state is very important to the recovery process but Signature decided to completely ignore that and made a decision without all of the relevant information. My wife was in a very bad state while in the facility and sending her back would be extremely depressing to her. (The facility was fine, my wife just hated being away from home.) Speech (Rita) had left a list of a dozen things that I was doing wrong. Then talking on the phone, Rita went through that list again. "This is wrong, this is wrong, this is wrong....". She made me feel pretty worthless as a husband trying to do my best caring for my wife. So while some of the interaction was fine, overall it was pretty bad.

I did have to go through my PCP for the necessary MRI before I was able to schedule an appt with his office, but everyone I dealt with was extremely professional and friendly. Upon being examined by Dr. Shonnard, he was warm, friendly, professional and thorough. I've since seen 3 more doctors to add more opinions to the mix and none of them have been as thorough in their assessments and examinations. He explained what was going on in my neck, what his believed my main option is and why, patiently answered what questions I had, requested that I schedule a followup appt and sent me home with a very clear letter explaining exactly what the operation entailed and what the risks could be. I was encouraged to do additional research and come back to the followup with any other questions. My husband was present for both the first and followup appts and between those appts I did get a second opinion (which was the complete opposite). Dr. Shonnard was still very warm, and very thorough and confident in his decision and was able to clearly explain why he thought his surgical approach would be superior to the second opinion's approach. He answered all the questions we'd come up with after reading the letter and doing research. Because of the aggressive nature of this surgery, I'm still waffling on getting it, but my pain and symptoms are increasing rapidly and my 4th opinion has brought me full circle to believing that it really is my best option. Every other surgeon I've seen has spoken highly of Dr. Shonnard and he is well known and respected in his field.
