Extra up charge if you have long hair, I wasn't going to spend between $65-$85 for a simple hair cut. A kut above was my last call but now it will forever be my FIRST! These people royally…read morescrewed up my hair and had zero self-awareness or common sense to just look at it and see that. I have a simple haircut that works for the shape of my head and deals with my cowlicks for years. I explained this in the consult and showed photo references several times to the hairstylist, and I should have recognised this pattern early because I told her I had just washed my hair like 2 hours prior so I don't need to do that again, and after the cape goes on she has me go over there and does it anyway. Zero listening or comprehension skills. Another creative way to describe the disaster is, it looks like I came in with vastly unrealistic expectations based on photo references that don't match the shape of my head - except all the photo references ARE OF MY OWN PAST HAIRCUTS DONE ON MY OWN HEAD. I opened with an ask for a trim and came out of this place looking like a drug addict from a trailer park. I'm too self-conscious and judgemental to tell in the salon (and what am I gonna do anyway, have them glue my messed up hair back on?) not to mention conflict-averse because at this point I've acquired serious anxiety with hairdressers from how many times I've had someone mess it up. To be specific, I had basic layering/tapering maintained here and my length was just getting a bit too heavy. I also have a previous haircut disaster that I'm trying to fix from when my last hairstylist insisted on cutting this godawful V-shaped taper in the back of my neck that destroyed my natural hairline - I made the hairstylist aware of this. She didn't do anything to it at all and it still is sticking out looking lazy and unkempt just as it did when I walked in. Is a hairdresser not able to comprehend the nuance of "hey the last person messed this up, but I don't want it to be sticking out either so just try to handle it to get it back to where it should be?" Whatever layering I had has been obliterated. I lost no hair on the back of my head and a ton off the top of my head, utterly destroying the sense of balance my hair created for my large cranium. The huge chunk of hair she hacked out of the front left side of my head makes it look like my hair is falling out! It looks God awful, I am horrified and ashamed to go outside because of what these people did to my hair. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE BUSINESSES THAT DO NOT RUN ON COMPETENCE OR COMMON SENSE. Avoid it like the Black Plague. I can throw $50 down the drain but I can't get my hair back to where it was. If I can't find a better place then I'm literally going to have to fly around the world to pay $20 to the random guy in Indonesia who did a good job six months ago. EDIT: The response to this review is more proof than the haircut that everything I said about this place is accurate and then some. FWIW, they did leave a voicemail and tried to ask if I could come back in so they could "fix it", which is not how haircuts work. No mention of refunds for the damage, no coupon, and no apology, so to think that was done in good faith is not reasonable. As for the personal attacks towards me running for federal office, yes, I ran precisely because there are too many people with money & power who are vicious, lying cowards and understood that Congress would be an excellent place to put that kind of thing out to pasture. It's a shame I didn't win because we could clearly still use this attitude of mine in light of circumstances like this! Thanks for nothing though!

I am extremely disappointed by the way this salon handled a customers hair and, more importantly, how they handled the situation afterward. She is a single mother who works a minimum-wage job and saved her hard-earned money for at least six years so that she could finally do something special for herself and feel beautiful. Unfortunately, what should have been a positive experience turned into an incredibly upsetting one. Her hair was not done correctly, and when she attempted to speak with management about what happened, she felt repeatedly avoided rather than listened to. Mistakes can happen--everyone has to learn somewhere, and nobody expects perfection. What is unacceptable is failing to take responsibility, failing to make a genuine effort to correct the situation, and failing to show compassion toward a customer who is clearly devastated by the result. At this point, she is experiencing significant emotional distress over what happened. She trusted this salon with something she had worked and saved for years to afford, and that trust was not respected. My advice to anyone considering this salon is to do your homework first. Read the reviews, ask questions, and, if possible, get recommendations from people you personally know who have had their hair done there. People work extremely hard for their money. When someone finally decides to spend their savings on something that is supposed to make them feel good about themselves, they deserve to be treated with professionalism, honesty, and compassion. I sincerely hope the salon reflects on how this situation was handled and understands that customer service does not end when something goes wrong--it becomes even more important at that point. Based on this experience, I would personally recommend looking elsewhere before trusting this salon with your hard-earned money. read more

Girl, the confidence you have for someone who just fried somebody's hair is honestly impressive. The service was bad enough, but the attitude afterward is what really tells me what kind of stylist you are. A talented professional can admit when they messed up and apparently accountability wasn't included in the appointment. You didn't just damage her hair, you managed to damage your own reputation in the process. Instead of fixing the problem or even attempting to handle it professionally, you chose to be rude and dismissive. That's a wild business strategy. And before you confuse her asking for accountability with her "being difficult," remember that this wasn't money she just casually threw away. She is a single mom working a minimum wage job, and saved for this appointment because she wanted to do something nice for herself. So for you to take money she worked hard and saved for, damage her hair, and then treat her like she's an inconvenience for expecting you to make it right is beyond disrespectful. Last summer, I finally decided that my stylist in Raleigh was too pricey, and so asked a friend of mine (who always has fantastic hair) who she went to. I am sooo glad I asked! I just had my third visit to Vanity Salon, with Cristin as my stylist. At this point, I can't see ever going to anyone else. Her salon is convenient, reasonably priced, and I can count on getting a good cut every time. I'm not big on crazy styles, and have had few experiences in highlighting, which I have found usually to just be ok and not really worth the money. This past visit, I decided to try highlighting again. Every time I look in the mirror now, I am completely impressed... she gave me *exactly* what I asked for, a highlight that definitely lightened my hair, but isn't too "in your face". And, my cut is perfect - not too edgy, yet trendy at the same time!! I also recently heard that she has customers coming all the way from Brier Creek. I find this to be a huge compliment to Cristin and her salon, as I personally chose not to follow a stylist I once had when she moved to Brier Creek ... I don't personally know this woman, but I came across her story on TikTok and watched her literally cry out to the world for help. She saved for six years for this, trusted a professional, and from everything she has shared, she feels she was not properly informed about what could happen or given the correct guidance throughout the process. What really gets me is that she has apparently tried EVERYTHING to get answers calling, stopping in, following up and still feels like she's being ignored instead of having someone genuinely work with her toward a resolution. I'm not here to pretend I know every detail because I wasn't there. But watching someone be this devastated after saving for years is heartbreaking. She deserves to be heard, taken seriously, and given a fair opportunity to have this situation addressed. Ashlan Argo, I hope you see this and understand how much this situation has affected her. People are watching, and people are asking for accountability. Justice needs to be served. Accountability needs to happen. If the claims being made are accurate, there should absolutely be professional consequences. Hey y'all! I'm writing this review on behalf of a dear friend. my name is Sophia and the friend who recently visited this salon her name is Milly, she has unfortunately been on the receiving end of horrible customer service. She came in for a perm and when talking with the stylist at the beginning of the appointment and she made the stylist (Ashlan Argo) aware of her previously dying her hair with box dye and Ashlan proceed with the service without making her client aware that because of the box dye, she unfortunately can't get a perm. Ashlan fried my friend's hair off! she had beautiful long hair that's now going to take a long time for her to get it back to what it was. What should have been a quick trip to the salon to change/ update her hair now has turned into a situation that could've been easily avoidable had this "stylist" done her job correctly!! and btw the salon owner has not called or reached out to her in any way, nor has anyone on behalf of the salon reached out to resolve the situation. I went to this place 4 days ago for a bleach and tone. Not my normal go to place, but my normal stylist was out of town and I needed hair done before attending a wedding. The vibes were off from the get go. Dirty looks from every single stylist in the building and nobody would ask me what I was there for. I felt invisible. When the lady I booked with finally came from the back and sat me down she acted completely inconvenienced by me. She thought I was a walk-in and was asking me my name and what I was in for when I had scheduled 2 weeks in advance online. Going here was the biggest mistake of my life, I've been in tears for days. I called in the next day for a refund and couldn't get ahold of anybody. I called again the next day and I was told they'd give me a partial refund the next day, which never came through. It's been days now and I know it's not coming, I will be going to the state board from here. Not to mention, I had to go buy an oversized sun hat to wear to the wedding to hide my hair, and look like a fool. read more

I highly recommend you go see Kristi Ellis at Vanity Salon and Color Bar! She's been doing my hair for over 3 years now... I followed her from another salon because I can't imagine going to anyone else! She knows exactly what to do with me barely having to give her any direction... it's like she can read my mind!! She takes the time to understand what you want and to make sure you are satisfied. Even if I go in for just a trim, she always styles my hair afterward and I leave feeling like a million bucks. I love that she is in a semi-private room (with just one other stylist) so that we can have a conversation without the noise of blow dryers and other chatter. When I have to sit under the dryer, she always makes sure that I'm comfortable with a magazine and something to drink if I want. I plan to have her style my hair for my wedding in May, which shows how much I trust her on the most important day of my life! read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Ashlan was easily one of the rudest stylists I've ever dealt with. From the beginning, she had an awful attitude and made me feel like I was a complete inconvenience for even being there. Her behavior was incredibly unprofessional, disrespectful, and honestly made the entire appointment miserable. I came in expecting a normal salon experience and instead left feeling frustrated and completely disrespected. There's a huge difference between being honest with a customer and just being outright rude, and Ashlan crossed that line. The attitude was completely unnecessary, and I should not have had to put up with it as a paying customer. I have been going to Vanity Salon for quite sometime and they r the best! I always walk out of there completely pleased with what I have done. I can call at the last minute and they will do their best to get me in with a time that accommodates my schedule. Amanda, does a wonderful job! I've been with her for years. Every time she does my hair, I get so many compliments on my color and my cut. stylist: ashley argo do NOT go to this salon, a single mother saved up her money from a minimum wage job for SIX years to get her hair done, ended up deciding on a perm, went in expecting it to be a relaxing and beautiful experience leaving her feeling gorgeous and walked out with a nest on her head, hair melting off, breakage galore. afterwards the stylist, ashley, looked at what she had done and said "i didn't do that", refused a refund, the salon refused to help get in contact with the owner to fix the situation. if i could rate 0 i would. future lesson for anyone who decides to go here. read more

Kristi Ellis has not only been a lifelong friend, but also my hair stylist!! I've been seeing Kristi to get my hair done for approximately 5 years now! She always does a GREAT job, and has great conversation to go with it :) She does great with my hair, and will always work a style to fit my hair type!! I always walk out feeling great! Kristi Ellis does a fantastic job! I've gone from one place to another and never have followed a stylist to wherever she is, because of her talent! She really is great! In the past I've experienced some things that have made me have what I call, "hair anxiety". Kristi has done a great job getting me to overcome that fear! You already know why I am here. I was going to say one bad apple can ruin an entire business but the owner isn't in the business of caring about the clients that come into her salon. I truly hope this ruins you because all you had to do was call her. Talk to her. Hear her out. But nope. That was just too much. You deserve all the bad vibes, bad karma and bad reviews. I have had it done before at another place, but wasn't able to get an appt with my regular stylist at another salon. After much deliberation, and checking reviews based on 'highlighting', I booked an appt at Salon Kroma. The online booking experience was aces. I received a call after I booked, just to confirm what I had requested. I was told the stylist I had booked with was very skilled with highlighting dark hair. I'm not sure if their idea of skilled is the same as mine. I showed my stylist several photos of the color I was looking for, and let her know my hair can get up to platinum white by showing her some strands on my head that were that color. She still didn't think it was possible...even with me showing her with my own hair that it could be done, and was done, in one sitting. She put the product on my hair and all seemed fine. We went to the back to rinse my hair and I was told to keep my head in the bowl for another 10 mins while she used the second step. I have never ever ever ever ever sat in the hair washing chair while 1) unattended, and 2) for anything other than a shampoo and condition, yet alone for my hair to process. She same back, yes, I said I was left unattended at the hair wash station with my head tilted back into the bowl, and rinsed my hair. We went back to her station and she started to comb my hair. I had to GO BACK to the hair wash station because she DIDN'T RINSE MY HAIR COMPLETELY. There was a large spot on the back of my head with suds still in it. I could hear the bubbles when she touched it. We finally came back to her station and she started to dry and cut my hair. When she was done, I noticed my hair felt a bit like straw and was not as shiny as usual after I receive a dry, cut and style. When I got into my car, I noticed a bit of a burnt hair smell as well. I've used leave in conditioners for a week after my 'experience', and my hair is finally back to its shiny self. I could not ever, in good conscious, go back. It felt like a one step above discount cuts experience.

I struggle with masks as I have asthma and I feel like I am suffocating while wearing one. I asked my stylist why we had to wear masks when just about every other business was wide open and mask-free. I was told "to make our customers FEEL safe." Personally, I found the mask wearing extremely uncomfortable. That being said, I typically would joke around my stylist but the mask wearing made me more of a quiet person. She asked me if all was ok, to which I replied yes...All is cool, but the mask made me feel like I was suffocating. After about the 6th haircut since reopening. I was told by the stylist (who is also general manager) not to worry about paying and took me outside to discuss how she felt uncomfortable that I was less talkative and what we're going to do about it. I sternly told her to just cancel all my future appointments (I was scheduled for every three weeks for years down the road). I was so pissed that now I needed to worry about her feelings, when she needed to simply cut my hair....That's it. So, this is how I was treated when she had cut my hair for so long. Believe me, she is obviously a liberal mind set and here she was telling me how to act to make her comfortable with me. The whole place is a liberal bastion...The owner is also very liberal. This business is a liberal shit hole. And on top of that, my stylist was not very good and very inconsistent....Often I would ask her to fix something that was wrong with my cut and it was very expensive for a men's haircut. I would not recommend this place, at all, to anyone. I now get my hair cut at a Great Clips down the road from my house for half the price and the lady that I always get is very good and very consistent. I can't believe I spent so much time and money getting my haircuts at Twisted Scissors.

I'm very thankful for J&F, I could never do anywhere else after this wonderful experience Edited to add why I went there: I had some matting issues with my hair. I have very fine, thin hair. I have to sleep with it in a braid or up. Welp, one day I didn't and then it just got worse and worse. I was so extremely embarrassed. From jump they said "do not worry, we will take care of you" and they sure did. At first I'm like just cut it off (would have been Britney 2007 style) Honestly, I cannot see my self going anywhere else. It was such a positive experience even tho I came in for something that was hard to do, and Julia said "I'm going to save your hair" (or something like that) and she did. The cuts and style were beyond the realm of "you get what you pay for", they should have been free. I needed to find a real studio and stopped into Hair Designer Studios. I was a walk-in and the owner, Lori, was available. I finally got a haircut from a real pro and it was great. When I needed to get the purple dye out of my hair she was very careful to bleach it and on the second round of bleach she added some darker blonde tones so it wasn't so stark white. It came out beautiful and hair was still healthy so I could dye it back to my own color after a week. I have seen Lori ever since and I'm always happy with the results. I'm contacting her to put my hair back to purple as soon as possible. I recommend Hair Designer Studios.

Enter Paige. She was so kind and reassuring. I felt at ease almost immediately. She was very honest about what the process to healthy hair would look like and I was so relieved when I saw my hair the first time she turned me around in the chair that I cried. After several months, lots of masks, a brief nutrifol regimen and lots of TLC later I'm so happy with my color, how my hair feels and the length that I've gained. I feel so much better about my overall appearance now and I have her to thank. Also huge shout out to Sierra, who took an emergency appointment with me when my hair grew a little too well from the treatments and I needed to get a touch up before started a new job. She was also lovely. Everyone is really - I feel welcome here by everyone. Everyone is super sweet and it's a really nice environment. Now when I went in there I didn't really know what I wanted but I showed a picture and a root shadow should've been added into it because who wants a harsh grow out line? My hair before she touched it had a root shadow so it wouldn't have to be redone every 2 weeks. Not sure what to do now because paying 500 isn't really worth it....
