I made my purchase and her toddler daughter gave the sweetest goodbye. Now the cupcakes, in my opinion lacked flavor and they were either stale and/or refrigerated previously. I've come back more than a few times to try different cupcakes from this bakery, and it has not disappointed! They always have a line when I stop by of people picking up bakery orders or stopping by to grab sweet treats. They have all kinds of pastries and bakery items: cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies, macarons, pop tarts and even packaged drinks. I've gotten a few different cupcakes from them. My favorites have been the peaches and cream, top hat cupcake, pistachio raspberry and strawberry vanilla. Their tiramisu cupcake, margarita cupcake and the key lime cupcakes all actually tasted so much like the namesakes! Their cupcakes are mostly perfectly balanced sweetness: I haven't had anything that was too sweet. Their cakes look so beautifully decorated, but I haven't tried any. They look so good though! Everything in there are so aesthetically pleasing, and if the cupcakes are anything to go by, I'd say flavor wise, the other items would meet expectations! Definitely one of my favorite places in Richmond to get myself a treat and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Review: Since the new owners took over it a couple of years ago and changed its name from Baker's Kitchen to Baker's Kitchen by Alvina (a misspelled play on "vanilla, as they told me), it's devolved into a mostly- empty store with hit-or-miss availability of even the basics. No more professional grade baking pans, no professional fondant or gum paste tools. You may as well go to Michael's or AC Moore. Same stock, and at least you can use a 40 or 50% off coupon for the same low-quality merchandise you'll find at Baker's Kitchen by Alvina. The same dried up sugar-paste flowers are still sitting in the display case. Prices have gotten higher. Selection has reduced to nearly none. Luckily, there is another bakery supply shop in town. It used to be smaller than Baker's Kitchen, but now is much better stocked, albeit with pretty basic supplies.
