Honestly, I can't believe I'm just now visiting Pearl's Bake Shoppe. I know it's loved by many, but what a hidden gem for me! We got a variety of cupcakes and a pumpkin pop tart and all were amazingly good! Super friendly team, cute store, and yummy baked goods! Highly, highly recommend!

The cake came out perfectly! Thank you!

Immaculate service and amazing cake design! Ordered my wife her birthday cake from there and it turned out perfect. Definitely work the 70 mile drive to get it!

Delicious cupcakes. Love that they participate in Too Good To Go, to end food waste. Super friendly staff too

Amazing cake!!! First time in Pearl's and I will definitely be back. The cupcakes were a hit, too!!

I spoke to two other cake shops before deciding to use Pearl's Bake Shoppe. I worked with Emily Pilk on the design and she was great! I wanted a cake for my daughter's bridal shower and she is vegan. I know vegan cakes can be hit or miss and Pearl's knocked it out of the park with this one! It tasted incredible and no one would have known it was a vegan cake if I hadn't told them. I got so many compliments over how it tasted and how beautiful it was. I don't think I've ever seen a cake as pretty as this one! I did a lemon cake with lemon buttercream and raspberry filling. They truly knocked it out of the park! I highly recommend using Pearl's for a custom cake.

I ordered a cake for my son's baptism. Simple. Got there and they quickly gave me cake and I quickly looked at it but was very distracted. I got home a hour away and got to finally look more at it about a hour later. GOD Bless was misspelled. God was not capitalized and bless was blees. Then called and I was told to drive back the next day a hour away again. Got there and figured someone would apologize or even the manager would come say something. No nothing of that sort. No apology... No asking if they could compensate for my time, gas, and money since I just spent almost $40 on a 6 in cake. I was sitting at a table and someone who was more than likely the manager, owner, or someone that wasn't a baker did come start pulling things out of a drawer and start throwing it all over the table I was sitting at. Also the decorator did act annoyed and gave me a look across the room though when she brought out the cake. Honestly the coming back wouldn't of made me so annoyed if they handled it correctly. I'll never recommend them to anyone which is crazy I had several recommend them to me.

They exceeded my expectations in every way. Everyone hyped them up when looking for a cake, and they were so right to. If i'm ever looking for another custom cake or macrons I will for sure go to Pearl's. They were super easy to work with, the cake came out better than we even expected and it was amazing!!

My husband celebrated his birthday yesterday which of course calls for sweet treats. I picked pearls because 1) I've had their cupcakes before and I knew they were delicious & 2) they have vegan options and we have vegan friends. I didn't order ahead because I wanted to have a mix and match dozen and that was easier to do in person. This could be a gamble at some places but they had plenty of options and plenty of each (I went in the morning just a tip if you're doing the same). They had 4 vegan options and two of those were gluten free, I believe they also had 2 gluten free regular as well. The picture I posted was only one side of the display case so there were more flavors than just those ones shown. The guy helping me was very nice, the store was very cute and had many other options besides just the cupcakes. On top of all of that everyone enjoyed the cupcakes so it was definitely a win!

I really wanted a strawberry cake for my birthday and Pearl's was one of the few bakeries I could find that had it on the menu and that allowed shorter notice orders. Their website and online ordering is super easy to use. There was a link to place an order for today/tomorrow and one for orders 48+ hours away. I mentioned a nut allergy in the notes and they followed up within the day reassuring no nut products would be used but cross contamination could be a risk. I appreciated the honesty. Pickup was seamless. They have decorations and candles for purchase at the store. I got some small gold number candles that I had trouble finding elsewhere for a decent price. The cake was as described on the site. Very cute, though the lettering could be neater. The cake was denser than I expected. The frosting/icing hardened in the fridge. I probably should have taken it out earlier but I found it was more enjoyable when I microwaved it a little.

Pearls is such a pretty bakery!! They also have a side to sit & eat! Always clean & well kept! The service is always good! The workers are always kind, at least every time I'm there!! I always get the 6 pack of cupcakes for abt $20 sum. They never disappoint! You might think the price is crazy, but I think it's worth it! It's my favorite place for cupcakes/pastries in VA! Or at least compared to my area(Petersburg).

Ice cream was very smooth, creamy, and delicious. The chocolate chip brownie was very delicious and moist.

So... one word... YUM... I kind of have a tummy-ache lol... because i felt like i needed to try every cupcake in the box... so delicious... so they have a crunchy edge that made me nervous but it was surprising so moist. I didn't like that berry one that looks so fancy with that green thing in the middle.... Like a rosemary leaf or something... it was probably one of those things that you have to have an acquired taste for... But the rest were so good. Would i go back? Absolutely yes. Even tho it's 40 mins from home...

What's the average price per cupcake?

Probably around $3.25. I know I paid $17.00 for half dozen. Usually you get a break when you buy more. Worth every penny, too!!

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. Most customers took their orders and walked away. I visited them on a Sunday afternoon just after St. John's let out. It's just one block away and the church Patrick Henry gave a speech. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

I ordered several of the savory scones and a couple of cookies and loved them all. Both the cookies and scones vary by flavor but we had a sweet potato scone and a lavender flavored scone. I would not normally have ordered a lavender flavored anything but my wife loves it and I am glad she does. I tried it and struggled to leave any for her. I at almost the entire scone. The sweet potato was equally as good but with a much milder flavor. And the cookies....out of this world! The servers were friendly but nothing over the top. They seemed to be a cog in the machine and churning out orders. Overall, a cute little, vegan, spot with really good pastries and coffee. Head caution on the milkshakes if you are not use to vegan milkshakes. While they taste good, at least to me, they are wildly different than an cows milk milkshake. Alot of people are shocked by this and turned off by the flavor.

But if it doesn't- WOW! Best vegan pastries I've ever had, and I say that as a vegan of 10 years. We got the chocolate & pb cake which was incredible. It was moist, flavorful and not too heavy or too sweet. The cosmic brownie was a winner, and I was so happy to eat a chocolate croissant for the first time since going vegan! We tried a cupcake which was light and airy, with delicious frosting that wasn't too sweet, which I have found common with vegan sweets made by non vegan bakeries. We also tried the breakfast sandwich and burrito, which were so delicious and flavorful. My friend said she wouldn't have known any of it was vegan. We also picked up some cute stickers, and browsed their vegan snack shelf. The staff was so kind, and carefully packed up 4 pastries for me to bring back to California. They made it safely through 2 flights and multiple car rides! I love how this is a community hub, with meals you can purchase to pay it forward, a bulletin board of announcements, free library, and inclusive signage. We felt so welcome here, and I loved the bathroom stickers and framed review on the wall. There is NOTHING better than supporting a fully vegan business who fights for what is right. I will be dreaming of Minglewood's goodies until the next time I find myself out in Richmond. Thank you for ALL you do!

The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry.
