Ron and Rachel are a treasure to talk to. This space is really elevating the Tacoma art buying scene and it a must stop for one of their monthly art receptions!! Support the arts!

Most of the art are paintings, but there are also sculptures, photography, jewelry, and even some furniture. I am one of the local artists, and I have been so impressed by how well they have treated me and all the other artists I've met. Their customer service is beyond anything I've encountered before! They work closely with both artists and customers to create a customized experience, unique to each person's needs. It's definitely well worth your time to check them out!! The artwork is frequently rotated, but you can see their full collection by clicking on each artist on their website. Anything you would like to see in person, they'd easily arrange. They also host a solo artist exhibition each month with lovely complimentary food and beverages. It makes for a great date night!!! You can find the dates for each month's exhibition on their home page. Barlow is honestly a wonderful place to visit - there's nothing else quite like it in Tacoma!!!

My boyfriend bought me a gorgeous necklace from here and I love it. The woman working here was really sweet and helpful and she didn't pressure us at all to make a decision. She instead gave great input when we asked! I love the necklace. It is handcrafted by a local artist and it is definitely my favorite necklace. It's absolutely lovely.

It does things with the highschool- but where they could offer valuable help to high school artists they just do a show every year and have them bring friends in to look around the gallery and buy. Everything is so ceremonial and off center here. Obviously their lack of ability to actually enrich children through enrichment "camps" and "classes" is my biggest beef. What does a high schooler learn about getting their art out there when you throw a little party and then tell them they might get somebody to buy their art? Its cute and an ego boost- but all good artists know the ego isn't what art is about. Ego is always key on Vashon- it' like this place is a catalyst.

There's a lot of work jammed into the space, but understandable and as many of you know, I'm a fan of salon style hanging whenever the situation calls for it! Cooperative membership galleries are the front line heroes of the art world, and this gallery boasts an impressive array of artists! Cooperative galleries, which are usually owned by a group of artists who share the expenses (and sometimes duties) of running the gallery are great places to always see work by a lot of artists at once. They also have to sell artwork in order to pay bills. Artists usually pay a monthly fee or a small commission on sales and keep the bulk of their sales. I particularly liked the work of visiting artist Jeanne Anderson, especially a gorgeous watercolor of a waterfall. Also liked the fine art woodwork of Dale McDaniels, whose intelligent pieces once again showcase why just because it's wood it doesn't have to be relegated or labeled "craft." If you're in Gig Harbor, this is a must visit place!

I didn't get the name of the artist who helped us, but he was just a sweetheart. He was an elderly gentleman who had a peaceful, laid-back vibe. I purchased a greeting card and a small ceramic bird on a metal stick. I'm very happy with my purchases. Prices ran the gamut, there was something there for almost every budget. We weren't in there for a very long time, but I'm happy we visited and felt that it was well worth the stop.
