My mother and I watched Carrie the Musical last night and it was fantastic! If Stephen King were in the audience, I think he would be proud! The acting and singing was great and really brought the classic horror story to life! I hope in the near future they'll put on productions of Phantom of the Opera, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Evil Dead the musical as those are all shows I've yet to see that I have been dying to watch (no pun intended)!!!

We were invited by a friend to see Matilda: The Musical. He is in the show and it was a treat to see him perform. All the staff we encountered from the ticket takers to the concession staff were super nice and friendly. The concession lines were well staffed and moved quickly which is important with showtime swiftly approaching. This theater is easy to find with ample street and lot parking. The lobby was adorned with festive decorations for the Holiday season. The theater seating is a bit dated and cramped but all had good views of the stage. We loved the performance and were enchanted by the acting and singing and sets. The cast came out after the musical was over and mingled with family and the audience in the lobby. This theater really has a lot of love and character and it shows. We will definitely return one day and encourage others to do the same.

To help soften the blow, they have lowered admission price in the interim. The hot shop is also still open and you can watch live glass making there. There are a few exhibit cases on view. There are lots of fun works that kids' designed that are also on view on the main lobby and down the hall. We went for a glass making class, which was tons of fun. I'm sure attendance varies widely - ours was not crowded. The person monitoring the class, Audrey, was friendly; she explains everything and then you have at it. She is there to help, which includes cutting glass pieces to suit whatever design you are making (this probably depends on the style of glass you are making). FYI the gift shop is really nice and is available even if you don't go into the museum. You can purchase works by glass artists who have been at the museum - so it's more than your average gift shop.

This is my first theater I performed at when I moved to Seattle. I've done shows in L.A.,…read moreDisneyland, etc...so I quit my travel job to pursue my love for musical theater. I missed it so much. I heard TMP was casting for South Pacific so that was my intro to meeting Jon and Jeff. I played Bloody Mary in South Pacific, I was part of Wedding Singers ensemble plus I played Imelda Marcos, I played Madame Liang in the reboot version of Flower Drum Song. I also did shows with the Children's Theater at TMP. I played The Sour Kangaroo in Seussical, and Princess Lucille in Junie B Jones and a little monkey business. I did a couple shows outside of TmP, and also invited to audition on Broadway. But after a few deaths in my family I decided to take a hiatus from doing shows. I'm still on a long hiatus. Actually at my age I don't think I could keep up with the young ones. Like any theater it had some improvements needed. Which TMP has done over the years . I've tried to support when I could. It's not very close to where I live. It's about a 30 minute drive. After all these years I'm just now writing this review because I regret not auditioning or even performing at TMP. I always tell people life is too short don't wait. Well recently we lost Jon who was co-founder, director, and choreographer of TMP. He and his partner Jeff were a big part of the Tacoma area arts. I do hope his legacy lives on. RIPARADISE Jon!

I haven't ever walked into Tacoma Musical Playhouse after living in Tacoma for quite a while until…read morerecently. I have driven by it enough times and some of their productions caught my eye more than once but what brought us here was for a production of Xanadu. Xanadu is a movie which stars Olivia Newton John and Fred Astaire makes an appearance in it as well. The movie was a real slog for me even though the movie is a cult classic and I love those types of movies... but "cult classic" is a very broad range and not all have the same appeal. The musical play is a spoof of the film and I knew it would have a brisker pace than the movie and I enjoyed it a lot! It was lots of fun and the songs sung served as a reminder of what's in the movie and had more of a positive earworm than a slog. The performers were great and they successfully cast a positive and feel good charm which was much needed. The Playhouse is also getting The Wedding Singer from the 80's inspired movie which I know would be a lot of fun and in this case I enjoyed the film much more!

Super easy to spot them with their sign which is the entrance for their different parking lots. You park in the middle of the forest. There's a pretty cottage where the restrooms are. Then, you enter the trail through a pretty arch where they check your tickets. If you don't have any, you can get them by the both for a couple more dollars. You can also purchase a pretty cool bag for their 100 anniversary. There is a water station too. The trail leads to the stage. Remember you will have to come all the way up so travel light. You can bring your own low chairs or rent for $5. We sat at yhe middle. Sound was good. Sometimes they had some problems but nothing too terrible. LOVED they have live music!!! Can you beleive this in the middle of the forest? We saw a Dr Seuss play. Good and fun performance. Easy to go out. Bremerton is the nearest ferry stop buy you can also try Kingston or driving from Tacoma all yhe way up. With one ferry down at Seattle we drove up to Edmonds waiting was very fast for a Sunday :D We didn't have to wait 3 hours at Seattle. It was a 20 minute drive from Kingston. We could see a big line for the way back.

The performance was absolutely amazing, the cast and production crew did it to perfection. It was so magical. They have stadium type folding flat pads with backs to rent , 2 for 5$. Everything is cash only though so make sure to have cash. The only downsides were that the walk is definitely a steep hill with switchbacks down and therefore steep back up as well. I wish they'd rent the chairs down at the bottom instead of at the top since I had to carry all of our stuff already. The other issue is parking. They do a good job packing cars in but you get blocked in by several rows of cars, which means you literally can't get out until the right cars leave and it makes it for a long exit. Otherwise, the theater itself is absolutely gorgeous. The cast and crew did fantastic. I'd highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back.

There were about 110 people at the show and that filled the place up. Reservations are suggested. No drinks, but if you come early, there are three places next door that have drinks, food and snacks. Come early! Featured are root beer floats with Husky Deli ice cream (a local delicacy) and free range root beer. At least, that's how it's billed. Good sound quality, the great Wurlitzer organ during intermission. There are table side seats up front (cost a bit more) and row seating behind. Seniors get a discount. Fun night! Gypsy jazz is what brought us to Kenyon Hall…read more They call themselves "Ranger & the Rearrangers:" a five-piece band playing the kind of music you'd expect to hear in a Parisian cafe but with the spirit of a Gypsy campsite. It was an intimate and most charming performance sprinkled with humor and wanderlust. Formerly Hokum Hall, this non-profit vaudeville-toting venue was built in 1916 and is a neighborhood treasure. Rumor has it: Eddie Vedder played a "secret" show here once. But it's really a dear man named Lou Magor whose been at the helm of this performance space for decades. He's a warm, quirky character who doubles as emcee and master musician and brings a corporate hug to the whole experience. The decor, old framed photos, hardwood floors and (the pièce de résistance) a 1920s Wurlitzer pipe organ create all kinds of nostalgia from eras gone by.. and the tickets are affordable, too. One of the things we liked most is the setting. It's located right in front of a park and open lawn, which makes it easy to turn the evening into more of an experience. You could easily do a picnic outside and then head in for a show. We came here to see Ablaye Cissoko & Cyrille Brotto, and the venue really complemented the performance. It's one of those places where the environment adds to the overall experience. Definitely worth checking out if you're attending an event here.

I grew up in Portland, which had many, and even a three screen one. I went frequently from childhood to my younger adulthood. Now the closest are Newberg, OR, Shelton and Bremerton, WA.
