I was on a business trip to Asheville ,NC from East Texas and one thing we don't have in East Texas is salt cured country ham. I called Vaughn's and they assured me they had some. I drove from the airport area to the meat packing plant and picked up a 2lb pack of center slices and should have gotten more. This is some of the finest country ham I have ever ate. I took animals for processing. What they gave me was not what I gave them for processing. The meat than they gave me was old and not fit to eat. I took a pig for processing to be left whole. When I went to pick it up they did not have it. Then had sold it to someone else. The other hog I had processed. what I got was old meat at least a couple of years old. When pork is old and smells bad (sour, sulfurous, ammonia-like), it means bacteria have multiplied, causing putrefaction; you'll also notice a slimy texture, discoloration (gray/brown), or a puffy package, and it's unsafe to eat, leading to food poisoning, so you should discard it immediately. A temporary "farty" or sulfur smell right after opening vacuum-sealed pork might be okay if it fades, but a persistent bad odor means it's spoiled. She said that your animal I have them tagged and that's the one you brought in. I delivered to her two animals grain and fruit fed Red Waddle hog and pig. What I got back was not fit to eat. She refused to take it back. Also I asked for sage hot sausage what she gave me was not anything that i have known. No sage at all. What got me was that she had an attitude. Refused to acknowledge her errors. This was the second year that she switched my animals for old meat she had stored in her freezer. I asked for it to be vacuum packed, what I received was wrapped in the white paper wrap. She was in a stage of denial with an attitude. read more

We love Vaughn meat packing. Everything we've purchased from there is amazing. After renovations, there's so much more than meat. Fruits, jams, vegetables. And their prices are very reasonable! I can stock my stand up freezer for a month with what I purchase there! The staff is always so friendly, as well. Only good experience here. read more

Have always had good experiences at Vaughns until today. My wife went in with our children to purchase beef at a sale price. There was a 10 lb limit on the quantity that could be purchased PER CUSTOMER. So, my wife got her 10 lbs and then each of our kids got their 10 lbs. They were in line behind her, not with her, and had their own money to pay with. Well, the individual checking folks out apparently thinks you have to be a certain age to be a customer and starts verbally abusing my wife, telling her she was being disrespectful to her and to other customers. The verbal abuse was so bad that both my 6 year old and my wife were crying by the end of their trip. After putting our kids in the car, my wife went back in to tell this individual that she did not appreciate being talked to like that, especially in front of the kids, there was no response. This individual just stood with her arms crossed and stared at her. Needless to say, nobody in our family purchased any beef today (although we were kind enough to put it back in the cooler) and we will not be back to Vaughns ever again. Although I've lived in the Upstate for years I did not know about Vaughns. I heard about this business from a friend. What a find! I ordered a 4 rib standing rib roast for our Christmas dinner. Picked it up 12/22. Roasted it on Christmas day. It was absolutely superb!!! Very tender and the flavor was excellent. And I am also very happy because it is local beef. I know where it was raised, slaughtered, and it didn't travel across country to some grocery store cooler. The employees I talked with at Vaughns were very helpful and kind. The store itself is clean. I will definitely be back. Probably to do all my meat shopping. They have many products. Prices very very reasonable. You must try them!! I enjoyed shopping there until today. A few minutes after being there I noticed the counter person was wearing a "Let's Go Brandon" hat. I was shocked. I immediately had her ring up what I had and explained that I would never be back because of that hat. She began to mock me and make fun of me. She said "no one likes Joe Biden" I engaged with her about that and finally uttered the expletive that her hat represents. (I shouldn't have done that)At that point she started yelling for others and they surrounded me and even though I'd already said I wouldnt be back they tried to take back my purchases and throw me out. I found out in this melee that the sweet gentleman who owned it and had always treated everyone with respect was very ill and not likely to return. I will never go back and I certainly am concerned about their quality and professionalism after what just happened. read more

This is the best kept secret in Greenville, SC. Locally processed beef, chicken and pork. Great prices and friendly folks. Shoutout to Jessica, the front counter lady who suggested the Smoked Gouda Cheese as well as the Chili.
