Dr. Middleton has saved our beloved Bugsy not once but twice. She is our angel. Tremendously skilled, compassionate, intuitive and has a bond with animals. She saved Bugsy from blasto 4 years ago, and now the sudden onset of pancreatitis. Both times there were doubts he'd make it. VCA Aurora Animal Hospital, Fantastic, Helpful and Extremely Caring Staff all around! From the front desks, to the techs, to the Doctors/Surgeons, etc. very knowledgeable and they all wear their hearts on their sleeves. Recently our boy Finn dislocated his hip and needed surgery to fix it. We called every VCA around and everyone was booked, it was also a Saturday so that was understandable. Aurora was the last VCA on our list because it's an hour and a half southeast of our home. So we called to see if we could get him in, we were told yes but it was a 2-3 hour wait because they were packed as well. We waited because our Finn is worth the wait. Finn got in to see a doctor, they ran all of their tests/X-rays and kept us informed every step of the way. We eventually got into a room and were given the results along with all the options and costs, they were very professional and informative. We decided to wait until Monday to make an appointment for surgery, otherwise we would have had to pay the "weekend fees/rates. We called Monday to schedule an appointment for surgery. Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday. Tuesday morning we dropped off Finn and his food; we were told they would call us before and after surgery and again before bedtime, and they did. We arrived Wednesday afternoon to pick Finn up and we were given all of his paperwork and meds, then we instructed on what to look out for during the healing process and how to use his meds and to call if we needed anything and to schedule an appointment with our VCA for a follow up. From beginning to end Aurora Animal Hospital crushed it!, Knocked it out of the park!, and exceeded our expectations!!!! Great Job Aurora VCA Staff and Thank You!! From the moment I made the first call through our dog's surgery and recovery, everyone at Aurora was fantastic. The receptionists, vet techs, doctors--all wonderful--professional, warm, welcoming--and all took the time to carefully explain every part of the process, from the first appointment, diagnosis, surgery, recovery, financing, etc. Dr. Peacock is everything you'd want your vet (or your own doctor) to be. He is a highly experienced surgeon--and doctors at that level often lack the "bedside manner" so crucial to clear communication and a healthy doctor/patient/patient's family relationship. Dr. Peacock dispelled all those concerns the moment he walked in the room. He is warm and down to earth. He was so helpful--examining our dog, explaining the issue and appropriate procedure--and answering all of our questions (some of which we likely asked more than once) with patience, kindness, and candor. VCA Aurora: Thank you will never be enough. My dog, Stassi, was attacked by a dog twice her size. We initially took her to a local vet, who treated her for the first two weeks. By week two, her wound had become severely infected, and we were told there was nothing more they could do. That was when we were referred to VCA Aurora. From the moment we arrived, the VCA team didn't hesitate. They immediately began treating her infection and preparing to close a wound that multiple veterinarians had told us simply couldn't be closed. They gave us hope when we thought we were going to have to say goodbye. The surgical team, especially Dr. Yoon and Dr. Abel are truly exceptional. They were informative, compassionate, incredibly skilled, and confident in taking on such a difficult case. They never gave up on my dog. That level of trust and compassion meant the world to us. For over a month, we visited VCA nearly every day and met with countless technicians. They even made her adorable custom bandages that brought us so much joy during one of the hardest times of our lives (see photos). This place is all about money! They basically hold your pet for ransom and if you can't pay their outrageous rates then they suggest you look at quality of life (even if your pet is not at deaths door). So basically they say pay or the pet is ended! Extortion!! They had my pet for ten minutes and came in to us with a estimated bill of over $10,000 and demanded 75% up front to continue care. She was there because she has anxiety issues and being a Bully breed her body over-reacted to some grass she had eaten and her throat muscles swelled and she was not able to breathe properly- they did intubated her and she started breathing on her own. It took a few hours and trying to negotiate multiple variations of that estimated bill. Luckily I had the funds and I was also able to get my pet out of there (she is home and doing well luckily). I wonder how many others have had to make that terrible decision of ending their pet because these people only want the money and lots of it. read more

I brought my pup in for an ACL Surgery. Dr. Abel was absolutely amazing. He was extremely thorough and answered any and all questions I had. The nurses were so sweet. They kept me in the loop the entire time, even gave my little girl a fluffy blanket for her overnight stay. I am extremely grateful for all the help and dedication they put into their job! I've waited years to write this review, but after recently being sent to collections over a bill I never authorized, I feel compelled to share what happened. In 2020, I brought my dog, Hugo, to this clinic for treatment--expecting care, not the nightmare that followed. While I was not present, my elderly father, who was living in a nursing home and not authorized to make medical decisions for Hugo, was somehow allowed by the clinic to override my role as the point of contact and authorize Hugo's euthanasia. I had no knowledge of this until it was already done. When I spoke with Dr. Sheila McCullough afterward, she was shockingly hostile and dismissive about the situation. Rather than take responsibility for having enabled a deeply inappropriate and unauthorized decision, she defended her actions and treated my grief with contempt. Now, four years later, I am still being pursued for payment for services I did not request and never agreed to. I have explained this multiple times, yet the clinic continues to send me bills--and now collections notices--as if none of it matters. This experience has haunted me. Losing Hugo this way was devastating enough. The lack of accountability and compassion shown by this clinic has only compounded that grief. I brought my Great Dane to VCA Aurora Animal Hospital on 12/28 at approximately 5:15 PM during a true medical emergency. My dog was experiencing severely labored breathing and post-surgical complications and urgently needed oxygen support. I was already hesitant to come here due to the overwhelming number of negative reviews, but the emergency hospital I normally use did not have oxygen available. I arrived in a state of panic with a dog who was visibly struggling to breathe. What I was met with was shockingly cold, dismissive, and unprofessional behavior from a young woman at the front desk who clearly had no interest in helping or even pretending to care. Instead of compassion or urgency, I was asked, "Have we seen you here before?" When I said no and explained the emergency, her only response was, "Well this is why we tell people to call before they come in. We're full and can't take your dog." I was so taken aback by the rudeness and lack of empathy that I walked out, placed my dog back in the car, and then returned inside to address how inappropriate her response had been given the severity of the situation. While I calmly voiced my discontent, the only response I received was a dismissive "Mmmmhmmmm, ok" repeated a few times. No apology. No acknowledgment. No concern. Nothing. I was absolutely floored. This wasn't a scheduling issue or a routine visit. This was a dog struggling to breathe. The lack of etiquette, professionalism, and basic human compassion was astounding and deeply upsetting, especially in what could have been my dog's final moments. This experience fully validated every negative thing I had heard about this organization. By contrast, Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Naperville and Oak Brook, as well as THRIVE in Hoffman Estates, treated my dog with kindness, urgency, and genuine compassion over the following days. The difference was night and day. Those hospitals understood what emergency veterinary care is supposed to look like. VCA clearly does not. I will never bring an animal here again, and I will actively warn others to avoid this location. No pet owner should be subjected to additional emotional distress when they are already terrified for their animal's life. This was unacceptable, heartless, and profoundly disappointing. read more

We took our dog to this hospital a month ago because he started having labored breathing. Also, he hadn't been eating or drinking since we returned from vacation. I emphasized that we weren't concerned about the lack of eating or drinking because that was normal for him after traveling and I was concerned about his breathing. The vet kept saying they were concerned about a metabolic issue and I asked about his breathing and even showed her a video of it from that morning. We got the estimate for the tests they wanted to run which was going to be $3,000. He was almost 11 years old and we weren't going to do any extensive treatment if they found something. I said maybe we can just do the chest x-ray since I was worried about his breathing. The vet said that would be the last exam she would recommend and didn't think it would tell us anything. With that advice, we decided against the tests. They ended up giving him fluids and an appetite stimulant. That night, his breathing got drastically worse. We took him to his normal vet, where after 15 minutes and a quick ultrasound, they found fluid around the lungs. The fluid that the ER gave him, ultimately, made him worse. After several phone calls back and forth about their mistake, the vet told my husband that he's "not a medical professional" and completely dismissed him. I am a medical professional which is why I emphasized my concern for his breathing; however, I do not work with animals so I took the advice of the vet about not doing the chest x-ray. Mistakes happen but when the medical professionals dismiss the patients and don't own up to their mistakes, more mistakes will happen. I will not be sending any of my future animals to this hospital nor will I recommend it to anyone else. We will drive to Naperville when needed. read more

My dog was attacked by another dog and we were referred to an emergency surgeon an hour from our house. Complications from that surgery warranted a second surgery a week later who specializes in wound care. Dr. Peacock at VCA performed the second surgery on a very small fragile mini dachshund. He is extremely skilled, compassionate, and a true hero lifesaver. The receptionists and techs are all amazing, empathetic, and love on your animals as well. This is the only vet my girl wants to come back to but hopefully no more emergencies for her. The price was no different than any other urgent/emergency animal healthcare. Being reposted (VCA Aurora said if I take my post down they will reimburse me half of the vet bill in return of signing a NDA, I refused. My dogs story and lack of care at VCA is more important than money) original vet date was 12/5/23*** VCA will do anything to avoid actually talking to you about your concerns. They will choose to ignore your emails and send you off when you call them. A manager will almost always never be available. After almost 2 months of emailing I finally get a reply. They will send their reply from a completely different email in hopes you don't see it in time. I had a Dr. reach out to me through phone call. No matter how many times I explained why I was so upset about the treatment of my dog, he kept claiming he can't understand why I'm upset at all 1) My dog was brought in for vomiting and diarrhea. The intake nurse or aid DID NOT relay that IMPORTANT information to the vet. I was very specific about how the color from his vomit and diarrhea were the same exact color and consistency. He said this was "News" to him. 2) I'm upset that they gave my dog an ultrasound and never told me about it. (It was free. The point was I need to know what you're doing to my dog as he can't speak to me and tell me himself) it's important I know all treatment my dog has received. 3) I'm upset that when we were discharged that I was told verbatim that "Titus' stomach issues are definitely from that pig ear" he had eaten 1 to 1.5 hrs before. 4) I'm upset that they didn't tell me anymore signs to look out for if he doesn't get better. 5) I'm upset that the notes forwarded to his NEW emergency vet contained new information about ultrasound (unbeknownst to me at the time) but MY paper work to take home did not contain any of that information. 6) I'm upset they didn't do any additional testing. Such as testing his stool. 7) I'm upset I paid $1485.53 for hydration, pain meds (gabapentin), and basic testing to not find any kind of root cause for my dogs extreme discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, as well as his awkward arched body that was clearly a symptom of extreme pain. 8) I'm upset that they said they "couldn't" take my dogs temperature, so they just didn't take it at all! NO ONE told me about it. They could have brought him back to the room I was in and done it there, as my dog is calmer with me around. A vet and/or director I talked to admitted (verbatim) that "VCA should be more transparent with their customers and that not having that info on my paper work was wrong." He assured me he would bring it up at the next board meeting and then call me back. He never called back. 9)Everyone who called me and emailed me was rude and completely unprofessional. They lacked empathy for my dog and it made me sick to stomach. They also admitted they were having a terrible time with reviews being positive on their website. I wonder why... I was also promised that I may not get all my money back, but it would be enough to alleviate the burden of not finding the actual problem, as well as having to pay another emergency vet to fix the problem for them. I received $53.12 as a "reimbursement" A TOTAL SLAP IN THE FACE! It covered ONLY the pain meds The problem turned out to be C-Diff a severe intestinal infection. Usually seen in young children and very old adult humans. The vet I talked to argued with me about how that's impossible as C-Diff isn't a "proven" disease in dogs... supposedly. The only good thing I liked about this vet is he did describe in great detail other stomach virus' and other causes to stomach discomfort in dogs. I can tell he really loves his job. He did compare stomach issues in dogs a lot to his wife's stomach issues and surgeries. I don't know if that was to simply compare or for sympathy. I do feel he wore me down on purpose because no matter how many times I had to read off the list of problems he would just say "I'm just not understanding what your specific problem is..." ALL OF IT, sir. It's just funny because after paying $1485.53 at VCA for nothing. I had to pay an additional $690, which is a GREAT price, to get an actual diagnosis and real treatment plan for my dog. That treatment was found at an emergency vet in St. Charles. Ever since my dog has been fine. Cured from an infection that if I went home and gave him the pain meds for the length of time they wanted me to, my dog would be dead. That was according to the new vet I saw. This woman saw him poop and immediately ran and grabbed a microscope slide. She came back about 10 mins later and said this was constant with C-Diff and he needed a strong antibiotic which he took for 2-3 weeks. My theory is that they don't diagnosis an animal on the first visit. The owner will have to bring the animal back for a second time to get a real treatment. Thus, double charging people on purpose, as well as risking the life of the animal. Now my qualm is about the emergency vet services at VCA Aurora. I don't know too much about their other services. read more

Our 15 year old dog Macy became suddenly very incapacitated and in obvious distress over labor day weekend. VCA was the only clinic open. I called over there and the voice mail had a prompt for emergency situations. I was asked how long it would take to get there and to call outside the emergency doors. They came out and got Macy, treating her very gently. We ended up having to put her down, but the vet explained all the options and possible outcomes. UPDATE: would like to leave a special shout out to VCA manager, Dana. She did a fantastic job handling this situation. I commend her for her efforts to track down our recorded phone calls, the staff who worked that day, and for talking with staff to fix this situation. If I could leave zero stars, I would. My dog was recently diagnosed with cancer, and my community highly recommended VCA Aurora Oncology. I made an appointment, paid the $100 deposit (which already felt strange and a bit shady), and completed all of the paperwork they sent me ahead of time. After that, I kept receiving calls from VCA about the appointment. I was reassured multiple times that there wouldn't be an issue accommodating us, as my dog is reactive toward other dogs. This is something we deal with at vet visits, so I made sure to be very clear about it. Out of all the documents I received, none explained what to do when arriving. This is a legitimate hospital with an ER, multiple entrances, multiple buildings, and a small shared parking lot. I ended up stuck in the ER parking and had to call to ask where I was supposed to go. The woman on the phone was not helpful at all. "Oh well you can park anywhere." "Well look for a long sidewalk, or pathway". Speaking very slow and unsure. Eventually, I figured out where to park and which entrance to use. I again explained that my dog is reactive and that we need to avoid other dogs and go straight to a room. I was told that would be fine and that I would receive a call when it was safe to come in. When they called and said we were ready, there were dogs everywhere--dogs in the lobby, dogs walking in, dogs walking out. I immediately brought this up and was told " Well, we don't know who is outside". I found that pretty strange because you can see who is walking out out of your Lobby with their animal. Once we got into the room, the nurse began asking me all the same questions I had already answered on the intake forms. When I asked why, she said, "Your story might be different," which I found odd. Then she took my dog away to do an exam with the doctor, without me, and without explaining where they were going or what would be done. The doctor later came in without my dog. She did not explain where he was, what she did during the exam, or even acknowledge my other concerns until I brought them up myself at the end. I had to ask why I wasn't present for the exam and why my dog hadn't been returned. Honestly, I have no idea if an exam even took place. On top of that, they had me fast my dog for 12 hours, No one ever explained why or even mentioned why he had to do that and it sounded like it was pointless because they didn't do anything. The doctor was not helpful regarding my dog's condition. She couldn't provide estimates for treatment or surgery. I had already sent over my vet's cytology and X-rays, and she admitted she basically didn't know how to read the X-rays. She talked at me for about 30 minutes, but I didn't receive a real second opinion, a treatment plan, or any meaningful guidance. After the appointment, I was told to wait in the lobby--with all the other dogs--while they processed payment and brought my dog out with paperwork. I paid, was told "thank you, have a good day," and had to ask, "Where is my dog?" I was told they would bring him out. I sat there for at least 10-20 minutes, surrounded by dogs, with no updates. I had no idea where my dog was or what they were doing with him. Eventually, they brought him out and casually told me I could leave through the side door. Why wasn't that option offered from the beginning, when I clearly stated my dog is reactive? This place is a joke. It honestly felt like a scam. To make matters worse, after charging me $300 for essentially nothing, they had the audacity to ask me for a donation. On top of all this, I had gotten so many calls before our appointment. They emailed me a bunch of documents. None of which explained the process Of how the appointment is structured, No arrival directions. I would never recommend this vet to literally anyone. read more

we took our kitten to VCA and they did blood work and an IV and then said they needed more tests. He is a main coon . We had to leave him over night. The next morning we called our Breeder which asked for his blood work. I called VCA they e-mailed me his blood work and I sent it in to our Breeder who sent it on to her Vet. she called me back within 10 mins of sending and said it's FIP. I called VCA back told them this they wanted to do more tests which I said know. Our Breeder got us the FIP meds in hand not VCA. we went and picked up our kitten treated with the meds In the parking lot. When we went into the room with the vet she said I believe this is not FIP. they had sent the test out and just called us this past Thur to say it is FIP. So that was Friday night we took him we would have had to wait 7 days our kitten would have died and if not dead would have had to suffer those days. our Breeder vet never laid eyes on our kitten only had to see the blood work to say 1000 percent FIP. Heres the kicker even if it wasn't FIP treating it does not hurt the animal. so they sent us home with antibiotic for bacteria infecton which he did not have. We paid thousands on tests that he didn't need. If we would have waited our poor baby would have died. Im so irate at place that says it's an ER Vet but really they are in it all for the wrong reasons . MONEY Also I e-mailed them with no reply why because they know they are wrong but don't care . My 9-pound, three-year-old Italian Greyhound broke his leg while I was out of town -- adding insult to injury. Dr. Peacock communicated with me promptly, explained the best course of action in detail, while assuring me that my little guy would make a beautiful recovery. Dr. Peacock executed an incredible surgery. With a steel plate and six screws, my little guy's leg was set on the road to recovery. Throughout the 10 weeks of follow-ups and bandage changes, the staff was consistently efficient and compassionate. From being scared out of my mind to seeing my dog fully healed and acting like nothing ever happened, I couldn't be more grateful. Having to wait 5 hours is shameful and was never able to care for my seriously ill cat.

We had a positive experience at this location. The 2 doctors we met were extremely informative and never pushed any procedures on us. They tried whatever they could to help our dog until the very end. The assistants, especially Amber was so caring. Anytime I called I received a call back in a fair amount of time. Our dog Roxie was diagnosed with cancer in her tail. We saw Dr Corrie and she saved our girl. Dr Corrie is an amazing surgeon who took care of Roxie. She went through the procedure and answered all of our questions. Also, I want to mention Abby. She was fabulous. She explained everything and was so professional. These people really care about animals. I highly recommend as they are more than a hospital. read more

If you really love your dog, and if you really want a staff that provides quality service, is compassionate, knowledgeable and professional - I recommend NOT going here. Drive an extra hour and find better. We had some isolated horrible experiences. I will highlight a few listed in order of severity. -The ER techs would only let us visit with our dog for more than 15 minutes (after driving an hour) due to "Covid Protocols" when other VCA hospitals do not follow the same protocols, and have no limits on visitation times. One of the ER techs was particularly rude also. -The Front Desk staff, I had two problems with at check out. Once when leaving they brought up the wrong pet bill. Really? I just dropped 8 grand at your place and you can't even bring up the right bill. The second time, it took a very, very long time to check out, and they weren't even that busy, I caught them back there grab-assing and joking around about what they did the night before, then I went up to interrupt and was very polite about it, and reminded that I was waiting to check out. Then they took a break from their jokes to check me out. Total BS. -We had transferred our dog here from another vet and the ER vet did not take the time to review our dogs record. She was unprepared for the initial meeting, and did not provide good answers to our questions. -Our primary vet called VCA Aurora to relay specifics and professional dialogue. She was on hold for a long time, left a message to have one of the vets return her call, and she never got a call back. Professional Courtesy = Severely Lacking. -After our dog's (first) major surgery, we went the next day to visit and pick up our guy. And we were waiting in the the room, waiting excited to pick up and see our guy, and how he was doing, filled with anticipation and nerves, and the vet tech (I am not lying, or stretching the truth) she walked in and literally dropped our dog on the floor - said "hang out with him" and left. No debrief, no caring putting him down, nothing. That was it. Meanwhile he literally pancaked on the floor, clearly was in pain, and had fresh stitches and wound and fresh bandaging all over his belly and that's how you treat a dog day 1 after major surgery? I was livid. Her name is Krysta, and she should be FIRED! I do mean that. -And best/worst of all. Dr. Dodd gave us some very bad advice. She said it would be appropriate to take our dog home and have him euthanized. Gave us a list of in-home euthanasia services, and said there was "nothing more she could do." This may have been easier to absorb except she really had no bedside manner. Just a matter of fact type thing. Pretty much emotionless. She was not particularly pleasant. I think she could use some help with her soft skills/people skills. We actually scheduled the mobile vet for euthanasia, drove to the hospital crying, brought him home to say our last goodbyes, got him home, he perked up and said "he wasn't ready." We called the in home euthanist and cancelled. We have been providing home care since, and over a month and a half later he has dramatically improved, still alive!!!, and we are so happy & elated. When we came here initially for the first surgery we had a good feel, and a good experience. I read other reviews prior to our first visit and they were all over the map - some good, some bad. You've heard about my horrible experiences. As a reviewer, or potential customer all I can advise you on is to look at the reviews, look at how many reviews people have. I have over 900 reviews and have been doing this for a while = that enhances my cred. So there you go. The doctors are amazing. The staff leave a lot to be desired. They tell you one price then you go to make an appointment it's a different price. You can't get a hold of an office manager. You have to argue with the staff that calls you because they Talk down to you and are very condescending. my dog was vomiting blood so took him in. The desk said they could give me a referral but weren't taking anyone new. No questions on how he was doing or any sign of compassion. I thought VCA was a 24 hr clinic for emergency. I made some calls and another place was waiting for us. That place was amazing. No more VCA for me. read more

Not a good experience. Took my senior dog with breathing issues ( chronic issue) since regular vet couldn't get her in for several days. She was "examined" without me present, and that was it. No treatment or meds of any kind to keep her comfortable, only a recommended $2000 worth of tests that I couldn't afford. I know what she needed, a steroid shot and a cough suppressant, simple common sense treatment which they refused to prescribe unless I agreed to spend $2000 or more on tests for a 14 year old dog. Ridiculous! This place isnt about care, its all about money. They only assist rich people with young animals who have lots of money to spend. Cost me over $160 for absolutely nothing. Dont take your pets there unless you have insurance or a whole lot of disposable income to throw around. This should actually weigh heavily on that vets mind that she sent a dog home with a wheezing, hacking cough. At the very least she could of provided something to keep her comfortable. read more

The vet nurse at this hospital was so incredibly rude. They dont let you back with your animal when all she had to do sas assess if bleeding from my dog was from her being in heat or not. She tried to belittle me as well as did not assess i had my dogs leash where it needed to be and tried to snatch the leash. read more

The staff has been absolutely amazing in the almost year that we have been going here. They are so kind and informative. They are so empathetic during this awful and hard time. Highly recommend them for oncology, surgery, and emergency needs. read more
