PLEASE READ!!! I brought our dog, Leeroy, to VCA Bent Tree twice, where he was seen both times by Dr. Lorena Gutierrez (March 6 and 9), before final visit with a different provider. From the beginning, Leeroy had serious symptoms, including lethargy, loss of appetite, and increased thirst and urination. His initial bloodwork showed significant abnormalities and these findings indicated a serious kidney-related issue and required a thorough diagnostic workup. A kidney infection was suspected, then confirmed. However, a urine culture was NEVER performed at EITHER visit. A urine culture is not the same as a urinalysis; it is the test used to confirm which specific infection is present and to determine which specific antibiotic will actually be effective. INSTEAD, Leeroy was prescribed a broad-spectrum antibiotic without a culture to guide treatment. Because of this, his condition rapidly decline with great pain and suffering for him. By the time we learned independently that a urine culture is a STANDARD STEP in diagnosing and properly treating suspected kidney infections, Leeroy's condition had significantly worsened. He ultimately deteriorated to the point where we had to make the decision to end his life. This is not a matter of hindsight or minor differences in approach. The sequence is straightforward: a serious kidney issue was identified through symptoms and lab abnormalities, infection was suspected then confirmed, but the one test used to confirm the infection and guide treatment was never performed ACROSS TWO VISITS. Treatment was given without that information, and there was no improvement. That omission left us without key information at a time when it mattered most. Pet owners rely on veterinary providers to complete the full diagnostic process when serious conditions are being considered. In situations like this, where kidney infection is on the table and bloodwork already shows significant abnormalities, omitting a urine culture removes the ability to accurately diagnose and appropriately treat the condition. major kidney-related abnormalities, owners should not have to discover on their own that a urine culture was never done. In my case, that delay had devastating consequences. Based on this experience, I would strongly urge others to not let their animals be treated by Lorena Gutierrez. We received a sincere apologies from other staff, even got our money back, and were promised our other animals would not be treated by this vet (we have four more). It is needless to say that NONE of that matters. Death is so final and Leeroy's could've been prevented. Him and our family were failed by an expert we trusted with our boy's life. Leeroy was a rescue dog saved from abuse situation. He deserved better than walking out of the clinic without proper help from professionals, twice, and ultimately us walking out without him. I've been taking my pup Abel here for almost a year, and they have taken such good care of him. All the staff from the techs to the vets have been caring, patient, and understanding. I appreciate them explaining a lot of details to me so that I can understand what my pup needs. The location is right next to a car wash and has ample parking. I get a little nervous because it's right next to a very busy road, so please hold on to your pet as you exit your car and the building. The facility is clean, and I feel very comfortable bringing my pup here for annual checkups and when he isn't feeling well. I can call them and ask questions when they're opened, which I appreciate. Overall, the insurance to the care they provide is exceptional! I'm glad I found a wonderful animal hospital for my pup. read more

Dr. Churn and Dr. Gutierrez are extremely patient and kind when it comes to my animals who aren't the biggest fans of the vet. I first visited them when my 4 year old lab mix got kennel cough! I was super scared being a first time dog owner, so I called them to see when they could see him. They were able to get me in right away. The staff was so friendly and quick! Dr. Chern answered all my questions & assured me Rocky would be ok! I visited them again on 3/24/21, my rocky was vomiting and had diarrhea. Again, they make it so easy to be seen for an emergency & I was even able to drop him off before his appointment so I could head to work! Dr. Gutierrez saw rocky & tested his stool. She called me to explain what was going on and what medication she was going to prescribe. I love how patient, kind, and informative they are. Being a college student, budgeting is hard and when unexpected bills come, situation can get tough. The staff is patient to give me estimates and walk me through each fee and explain for what and the amount. The prices aren't bad, and the service is definitely worth it! I paid less than $200 and that's with a same day appointment, stool test, and medication! Now we wait for my fur baby to feel better! Thank you so much to the amazing staff!! Brought my cat here for boarding around christmas time. I was desperate to find a place because everywhere was already booked up, but this animal hospital had room to take him in. The drop off was pretty quick, and honestly i was very skeptical about the pricing, I thought it seemed shady that they wouldn't tell me how much my bill would be and I would find out when I came to get my pet. I was very relieved when I picked my cat up and saw that their daily rate is actually cheaper than all the other places I checked, and there were no extra fees at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful (i didn't have the updated records for my cat and they helped me get them). They also had no problem sending me pictures of my pet while he was under their care (might I add they made the pictures cute and personalized). Update: After the original review I had the office manager reach out to me, she refunded the fecal and apologized for no one talking about cost. It was appreciated. I have gone back again cause my dog is glutton and eats things he isn't suppose to. Dr. Chern took care of us again and he is very knowledgeable and listens to my concerns. This time they did go over costs and were as helpful and polite as before! My dog is pretty nervous so they were slow but still efficient. The tech (didn't get his name but he was awesome too!) was quick with the blood draw for the heart worm test! Overall very satisfied with my visit and the helpful team! I had found a great vet when we lived in Lewisville, so when we moved out to this area, I was seriously considering driving my kitties all the way to Lewisville to go to the vet... But they hate the car. Sigh. After doing some research, I found this place. I'm really glad I did. Over the summer, we had a flea problem (due to us cat-sitting 2 cats last November/December that were flea riddled, without our knowledge. Awesome). The cats had been on Frontline, but it didn't matter. There were so many fleas, the Frontline just couldn't compete. Our older kitty (she's 13) had also gone to the emergency vet a week or so before our visit to Bent Tree because she stopped walking. We did blood tests and whatnot at the ER Vet, but we wanted to do some x-rays and other tests at a regular vet, where it wouldn't cost $300. I am so happy with Bent Tree Animal Hospital. Normally, on the first visit, they like the owner to stay with the animals the whole time to answer questions and whatnot. But when I explained the situation (boyfriend was going to drop the kitties off in the morning on his way to work. When I got OFF work at noon, I was going to flea-bomb the house, then pick the kitties up when the vet office closed, to give the house time to air out and whatnot), they were awesome. She told me to fill out some forms on the website and send them with my boyfriend. We did and it worked out really well. Also, they're great on costs... They wanted to get an ok from me to do a bunch of tests on both kitties based on some concerns I had expressed. I said I would rather they call me before each test (blood test, x-ray, etc) to discuss it. They were awesome with it. One of the vets (I think it was Dr. Kimball, but I could be misremembering) called me a handful of times and we discussed each test. Rather than doing the entire, expensive, blood panel on the one kitty, we did the less extensive one that would still show us what we needed to see. They were also great in that they agreed to keep the kitties all day, for only $10/cat. We dropped them off around 9 and I didn't pick them up until they closed. Some places just won't do that, or they'll charge you twice that amount. The front desk people were very friendly, as well. In addition, Bent Tree takes CARE CREDIT. I wound up spending almost $500 that day (check-ups, shots for both kitties... then 2 sets of x-rays for one and a blood panel for the other, plus on-the-spot flea treatments to kill any fleas on them and an update of their Frontline to keep them good for the next 30 days), and not only do they TAKE Care Credit there, you can actually sign up for it right there at the office. Excellent no-interest financing (I got 6 months on this purchase), and it's almost paid off already. Overall, I highly recommend this vet clinic. It's obvious that everyone there really loves animals and loves what they do. By the way, both of my kitties are doing super well. The older one started walking again 2 days after the visit to the ER vet (x-rays at Bent Tree showed that she had pretty bad arthritis in her back legs, so we're giving her G/C pills to help that (purchased from Bent Tree)), and the younger one perked right back up again after the fleas were gone for good (I was worried she was anemic). read more

Diane was so rude on a Saturday morning at 8am. I had an appointment at 8am arrived at 8:11am. I was aware they closed at 12noon and I would probably have to reschedule, no problem. The issue came about when Diane got extremely upset, walked in my face and was yelling over me in my face. I politely asked her to step back and she refused and continued yelling. I stepped back and removed my dog from the facility to allow her to calm down . When coming back in I had ti wait a hour or so before being seen by Veterinarian Mindy. I took my senior cat to Bent Tree for the first time last year and fell in love. The techs are amazing and every single one I met is absolutely in love with animals and have a great amount of sympathy and concern for them. The entire staff is caring, always smiling, and the nicest people you'll meet. Kitty sees Dr. Koontz and I am so happy with the care she's given. Dr. Koontz is amazing at listening to my concerns, even the smallest worry or "symptom" I bring up, and excellent at reassuring and explaining every procedure and recommended treatment. They always get me in quickly, I never wait long, I love my postcard and email reminders, I love the new Pet ID cards you get at yearly exams, I love Dr. Kimball and the staff is always friendly, caring, and efficient. My sweet pup was injured at her groomer. She came home appearing to have an itch on her leg, but a few days later, she was unable to walk normally. She was in so much pain that she didn't eat for two days. I took her to an emergency vet when she became lethargic, and waited there for four hours without being seen. We finally left at 2am and I brought her to Bent Tree first thing in the morning. Dr. Chern and the rest of the staff were so kind and caring (as usual!) and took amazing care of her. They shaved her irritated area, discovered a lot of small abrasions and wounds, and cleaned her right up. They did some blood work to make sure there was nothing else bothering her, and I had the results by that afternoon. Sweet Trixie left the vet already feeling less irritable and more alert. She even came home and ate something, thank goodness. I was so worried for her, frustrated with the first vet, exhausted, and did I mention so incredibly worried?! I've been taking my dog, Kenzie, to BTAH for the past 1.5 years/ her whole life. My dog is high energy and very anxious/ strung out... borderline embarrassing. They have always been very accommodating and genuine. She has gotten all of her vaccines and maintenance procedures through the animal hospital and has been kenneled there once- I feel as though the clinical side takes great care of her. Front desk lady, I think Diane is her name, blonde hair, sits the furthest away from the main entrance has great etiquette and enjoys her job. It reflects in her work. There is a young lady who answered the phone who could learn a lot from her- very short in conversation. I've had one billing issue. I was billed for a stool test and it has never been run. I mentioned it when I made the appointment for the kennel service (they provided me with the collection container and I did not return it. The container was smaller than a glue stick and I lost it). I was told they would credit me what I had paid and this never happened. When my husband picked our dog up, he paid for the kennel, her vaccines, and another stool test- no credit. As a nurse, I would have thought vet billing to be the same- pay for things at the time of service to prevent improper/ fraudulent billing (your personal md doesn't charge you for lab tests before it's drawn). Th cost is less than $20, it's just the principle. Despite this, I will still continue to use BTAH. The comfort/ feel of taking my dog to a place that is knowledgable and caring over rides the bad. read more

I live in the apartments very close to this clinic. I went in to pick up a bag of cat food and met one of the dogs they were trying to find a home for. I also saw that they were taking care of a cat that had been burned in an apartment fire, and were taking donations to cover its health care costs. I'm happy that they not only care for animals with owner's wallets behind them, but also animals in need. If you're looking to adopt, call them first and make sure they don't have a patient in need of a home! The dog I met was $75, already neutered, chipped and vaccinated. He had been grazed by a car and had suffered a little road rash, but was the sweetest thing. I wish I could have adopted him, but I know they took good care of him. read more

My Jack Russell, Gucci, had health issues her whole life, we had been in and of several vets and never found true help. I always felt the vets were after my wallet after several misdiagnoses, etc. I moved to the area and found Bent Tree Animal hospital... at this time my dog was going blind, had a lot of eye pain, and we went in to see Dr Turner. I didnt receive good news but I could hear in her voice she cared, was worried, and was sad for us. I had never felt a vet cared until then, I was comforted after that knowing she would do everything she could for us and we were not just a # or money sign. When Gucci got very sick in Feb 2013 we returned to Bent Tree and saw Dr Kunde this time. I was a bit worried since I loved Dr Turner so much but Dr Kunde was great. Gucci was in major kidney failure and Dr Kunda was 100% honest with me- he said it didnt look good and even if we put her on IVs he wasnt sure if she would make it. His honestly meant the world to me. She was peacefully put to sleep in their office and they let me sit and cry, people gave me hugs, and they sent a personalized card to me with each person writing a personal message that I will have and value forever. Have been using BTAH for 13 years and have been highly pleased with every one of the DMVs on staff as well as the techs. The front desk staff is awesome as well. Everyone has ALWAYS been very professional as well as courteous, compassionate and genuinely caring. They are VERY thorough on regular ck ups as well as illness related ones. Whenever my dogs have been treated for any type of illness, I always receive a very personable follow up call the next day and on occasion another one a couple of days later. They have never tried to "push" extra services on me and always give a cost estimate prior to any non-routine related treatment . They may be a little more expensive than some other clinics, but no question in my mind that they are well worth every dime i have spent. I absolutely trust them and have no doubt whatsoever that my dogs are receiving excellent care. read more

I've been going to Bent Tree for about six+ years now having four cats and helping rescue other kitties, get them their check-ups and shots and find them homes. First, I'd like to say that Dr Kimball is a wonderful DVM and really cares about your pets. Chris, at the front desk, is AMAZING, always helpful, super positive and nice. The other girl, Amanda (I think that's her name) is always rude, never consistent, has the "I don't care about my job" attitude and has been seen rolling her eyes at myself and another customer. Even after complaining twice she is still exactly the same. Even two other staff members have agreed with me and two of my friends who also take their dogs and cats here. My main complaint is pricing (besides the awful customer service from Amanda). There has NEVER been a visit where I didn't spend less than $170. You would think bringing all your cats in together you'd receive somewhat of a discount or even one of the $35+ exam fees waived but no! Never, not even after asking. This place is run like a factory...almost like a robot...never that small town feel you receive at other vet offices. Let me explain... When one of my cats got sick I called and made an appointment with Bent Tree Animal Hospital and brought her in shortly thereafter. They ran tests and discovered my kitty only had a fever, which was common with kittens. I paid the $270+ bill and was told to bring her back in two days for a follow-up. After doing so I was then charged ANOTHER office visit! What the hell??? I have never been charged a follow-up ever in my entire life and especially not for them to tell me my kitty was fine and didn't have a fever when I already knew this. Just another way to get paid, I guess. This has happened to me four times and enough is enough! A normal visit for me with one animal ranges from $350 to $580. Wow, that's high but again, if it weren't for Chris and (sometimes) Dr Kimball I would have been gone a long time ago. I'm not saying my pets aren't worth it because obviously they are by the amount of money I spent here and care I give my pets. You would think as often as I've been taking animals there every other month they'd show some type of appreciation for using and referring their services but nope! Not once in six years. It seems clear to me this particular vet hospital only cares about taking all your money, even after explaining to them we were having some financial difficulties. Their response to me was that every patient must pay their bill in full at check-out. We couldn't use our Care Credit because we'd already used it for our dentist. Honestly, the only good thing about this place is Chris and Dr Kimball. Everything sucks badly! Even the waiting area is extremely dirty, dusty and crap thrown around and the animal scale had all different types of cat and dog hair on it and they wanted me to put my cats on there without cleaning it first. Sorry, but no thanks. I will not be returning to Bent Tree Animal Hospital ever again and neither are my friends who live in housing nearby. We are now searching for a new animal clinic that offers excellent customer service, is extremely knowledgable with animals, loves their job and practice and is also more affordable and less greedy. I went to Bent Tree Animal Hospital when my sweet dog was ill with skin cancer. Dr. Kimball was amazing and I have never felt more comfortable with a vet. She had both mine and my dogs best interest at heart and I couldn't speak higher about her. The office staff is amazing as well and they actually cried when we came in to have sweet Duke put to sleep....on to the Rainbow Bridge with the best care available!! read more

Truly amazing. They diagnosed my dog with Parvo today and I couldn't afford to pay for all of it. They ended up donating $163 dollars to us via 'The Angel Fund' and taught us how to give him IVs and vaccines. I went there at the spur of the moment because they were the only office that would take him at 7:30 and I'm sure that no one would have treated us better. I highly recommend them. read more
