I am only writing this review to prevent others from making the same mistake I did. Please do not go to this vet for heartworm treatment for dogs. The staff acted like they were familiar and educated in heartworm treatment but when it came time for the painful treatment, it was clear they were not. They did not warn me of the possible symptoms and I believe it's because they genuinely did not know themselves. After the first injection I spent 10 hours on the floor with my dog moaning in pain, and shaking like she was having spasms all through her body. She was in so much pain she could not swallow and was not blinking. After calling VCA multiple times and being met with either a lack of interest or a lack of knowledge about the treatment, I consulted other vets to see if the symptoms were normal. Every vet I spoke to advised me it was very much not normal. Even these vets who had never met my dog were concerned, unlike the staff at VCA. After this experience I had to request the vet at VCA give my dog the pain medications suggested by the other vets I contacted. My biggest concern here is that they seem to be uneducated about a serious treatment they are offering. I understand heartworms are not common in the northeast, however knowing how severe and painful the treatment is, they should not offer this service if their staff is not fully educated on it. It was inhumane for my dog to suffer the way she did. Halfway through treatment we considered putting down my one year old dog to prevent her from having to go through the injection twice more. To be clear, heartworm treatment is very painful no matter what, but every person I encountered at VCA had no empathy or seemingly any knowledge on the subject. I was uncomfortable each time they took my dog in. After a 3 month long treatment, I have still not experienced any compassion, concern, or even a hint that they actually like dogs. When I brought my cat in for a checkup, I was put in a cat room...and the first thing I noticed was hairs and dirt on the stainless steel table and white scale. When the vet tech came in he did not clean the area, but placed my cat directly onto what could have been flea eggs (who knows). Though the vet tech was nice enough, he proceeded to take the cat's temperature by RAMMING a thermometer inside her. She is 10 years old, has been to countless vet checkups, and I've never seen her react the way she did. Appearances and initial treatment are everything, especially the first ten minutes as a new customer. I am afraid to go back there. read more

My son and I brought out dear 9 year old sick cat(Smokey) to the VCA. I have to say the staff is the most caring, compassionate, responsible animal hospital/vet I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Our Smokey was very ill and we were informed he would not get better. After crying and spending alone time with Smokey Dr. Michelle came back into the room to discuss alternatives. It was a very sad and emotional hour and I have to say this staff handled our situation with the utmost compassion. I would highly recommend the VCA to all I know. read more

8/21/21 Excellent vet! The best I have found; the doctors as well as the techs are caring and take the time to listen and speak with you. The follow-up is wonderful too. Both my 11 year-old and 2 year-old kitties come out feeling calm -- not upset like they have from other experiences. I especially love that there not any extra charges or need for tests. Who calls or texts to find out how your pet is the next day??? VCA Northside does. With Covid, one day the doctor came out to my car and spent 30 minutes talking to me to explain my concerns about my new rescue cat. Other times I have spent from 10-20 minutes on the phone with the doctor asking questions and then following up after the check-up or visit. Prices are great. I won't go anywhere else and recommend them to everyone I know. read more

I am SO grateful this place was recommended to me by both my mother-in-law and co-worker. We just moved to the area and both my pets needed pretty urgent visits- my cat had a very large cyst that suddenly popped and bled and my dog had a pretty serious tooth issue. We felt that they sincerely cared about both our animals and us. They worked with on the prices and I feel like they quality of care they provide WELL EXCEEDS what they have charged us. Our rescue who wound up having to have 14 teeth extracted (had previous serious issues before we rescued him) and they only charged us for a few since they said most of them came out so easily and they would "have been crazy to charge" for more than half of them. They had been able to accommodate all of our visits recently within a reasonable time frame and I have never once felt like I had to wait too long for a visit or felt that they overcharged for anything. One of my two cats was "showing signs of sickness" throughout my home (blood in the urine). Not knowing what to do, I stopped by VCA in Danbury yesterday since they provide exceptional care for my dogs. Crystal, who greeted me when I walked in, answered all of my questions and made me feel much more at ease. Even though other customers were arriving, she never made me feel rushed. She multi-tasked with ease was really caring and scheduled an appointment for us to return at 4PM. At 4PM, Amanda, one of the vet techs, met me at the door. She assisted me with the cats and immediately showed me to an examining room where I was met by Shelly and Evan. As it turns out, Evan manages this location but he knew I was anxious about the cats so he stayed in the room during the exam and assisted. That decision alone exceeded any expectations that I had. After the vitals were taken, there was a small wait for the doctor during which Amanda and Michelle came into the examining room and spent time petting (and talking to!) the cats. They were both extremely professional, loving and very compassionate. Within a few minutes, Dr. Hernandez identified which cat was sick and provided the diagnosis (stones in the bladder). She explained my options and knowing I had recently been laid off, made suggestions that would be financially viable. Michele (the CVT technician) showed me how to administer the medication/pills (twice) and even let me videotape it. Upon "check-out", I was advised that the examination fees had been waived and was given several sample bags of the "special diet" food as well as toys for the cats. I am so appreciative of the team at VCA in Danbury. From the front desk - to each of the techs - and the doctors, it's a symphony of love. After taking my two cats here, I was not impressed. They constantly are emailing me telling me my cats need a check up just a month or two after I took them there. I am bad about myself getting a yearly physical, why would my indoor cats need multiple check ups a year? Prob because each check up is a $50 profit. My cat needed a Urinalysis, after the test they failed to empty his bladder, this resulted in him peeing all over my cat carrier uncontrollably after they stuck him back in it, what a pleasant ride home considering i had both cats in the carrier. I really enjoyed having to bath both cats when i got home. Needless to say i really enjoyed my experience with VCA. read more

Love this place!! I boarded my dogs here while I was on a 2 week vacation. The staff was so welcoming, they listened to all my crazy instructions with a smile. One of my dogs was acting off during her stay, the hospital staff was in constant contact with me, keeping me updated and getting her back to normal. I was flabbergasted at the amount of compassion we received today from VCA Northside. My daughters guinea pig was in distress. After calling no less than 7 vets in the area, they either did not care for exotics or were "too busy" to deal with us. VCA not only squeezed us in right away, they examined Radke (unfortunately they felt he was near the end of his life as I already expected), they took the time to let my daughter say good-bye and humanely put him to sleep. They gave us all the time we wanted with every step, this was very important to me as this was my daughter "support animal". They let us take him home for burial, gave us not only a box and blanket but they took his little footprint and made a clay heart with his name on it. This was HUGE for my daughter. Thank you VCA! You did an incredible job today, and you made my job as a Mom so much easier. My daughter is able to process her loss so much better because of you. Thank you, thank you! read more

VCA I would rate as a solid 4. First thing is Dr. Ravich is great, we were very pleased with her. You could tell she wants what's best for your animal. She even sent me a follow up email outlining our visit. One thing is that it isn't very clean. You can tell the floors aren't wiped regularly which is disappointing because I over all enjoy the place. Other than that the atmosphere is good and friendly, I trust them. read more

I felt compelled to write this review because my experience was very odd, and not professional in my experience. So, I brought in an injured animal that was not my pet personally. I had heard some very hit-or-miss things about VCA Northside and, believe me, I really did not want to go there. Many years ago, I used to bring my pets here. They were very inconsistent. Sometimes they communicated well, other times awful. Sometimes the place was clean, other times awful. This was an emergency, though. I tried several places before going here, just happened to catch somebody after hours by knocking loudly on the door yelling that it was an emergency and that I really needed help, please. Could definitely tell by how they received me that they were not happy about it. A group of women saw me and ignored me, but one decent person finally came out. I get it, was tired, too! My day had started that day at 4:15 AM and this was into the evening by the time this occurred. Everything was weird from the vet tech meeting me outside instead of letting me come inside with the injured animal, to the fact that there was not much warmth in the offer of help. Or in how the animal was taken from me. You could look into somebody's eyes and know if they care or not. Seemed hesitant to take my information because I wanted to follow up. Would never bring one of my pets there. I have the best vet but I travel to see them. Totally worth it. The kicker for me with VCA was that I could not get the original vet tech I spoke with on the phone. I won't mention her name but I guess that surprised me. The receptionist who I was talking with was so shady in the details of what happened. The animal didn't make it. The night before, I expressly said when I dropped it off that I wanted to be able to take care of it, whatever happened after-the-fact. Life or death. Even if the poor animal didn't make it. They claimed the animal didn't survive the night, no details. I have my suspicions. Just left me a very flat message on my voicemail at work. When I called back and asked if I could pick up the animal to find a nice resting spot, they were scrambling. No details about what actually happened, no matter what I asked which was just strange. Seemed bothered and short. Told me some story about that vet tech burying it in her yard. Since it died that morning. Excuse me but what?? Have the guts to honor your client's wishes and also to get on the phone and have a person-to-person conversation when delivering bad news. Like a professional. I have worked in healthcare and have about three times as much experience as any vet tech there for sure. Nice, huh? Never again. read more

So I leave the last review 5/4/16. Much to my surprise they responded within a few hours asking us to make contact. Must have been joking as we contacted them a few hours later. That was 8 days ago, still no response from them. Oh yeah I'm going back there , in fact I think I'll bring all my friend's pets too! read more

I have a puppy and this is the place recommended by a friend for vaccines and check ups, was all good until the day he was scheduled to be neutered. The lady called a day before saying that he couldn't have anything to eat from midnight and drop off was between 8:00/8:30 am next day. He was supposed to be neutered and they would call us to pick him up after when out of the surgery. So for my surprise my 6 months puppy spent the whole day in a cage with no food and no bathroom breaks for the whole day until 5 pm when he got into the surgery room, they said they had 4 more dogs to do different kind of surgeries and because my puppy was the less complicated one they saved for last... Excuse me??? When I asked if he was not supposed to be the first one she asked if I requested to, only if I knew it I had to request that, they never told me. And they told me he was going to be fine the whole day without eating because wild dogs stays 2 days without eating and they do just fine... And when I asked if he has been going outside for pee she said he didn't want to.... Excuse me??? A 6 months puppy that usually goes outside every 2 hours for bathroom breaks now speakes and says that he doesn't want to??? So he was neutered almost 8 hours after being dropped off and they called us a little bit later to pick him up when they was supposed to stay with him a little bit more and make sure he was completely fine before sending him home. Thankfully he's doing pretty good after surgery but really, that day was ver disappointing. read more

Both of my dogs and my cat have had routeine health care at Northside. The vets at the hospital are very professional and the staff provides excellent service. I have received great advice from the vets and I would reccomend them to anyone. read more
