The physicians, nurses, and staff at Guardian are absolutely incredible -- extremely knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely committed to getting to the root of the problem. We felt completely safe and in good hands the entire time. The pricing was also very reasonable for an emergency vet; honestly, I think I would've paid double at my regular clinic. Guardian is such a special place. I even had to put my first dog down there, and although it was one of the hardest moments of my life, the team made it a truly beautiful experience. They showed so much compassion and respect throughout the process. If you're looking for a place you can truly trust with your pets, take them to Guardian. Your animal will receive the most incredible care from truly special people. The doctors communicate clearly and with such kindness -- I can't recommen

Here's something to consider. When Oreo was euthanized I took him here and requested a private cremation, paw clay print and fur, all included in the price. Jeter passed away at home so it was a private cremation only. I ordered the paw clay print too. The new thing was I had to call Final Gift (https://www.finalgift.com/) the following morning and tell them that I wanted his fur. When I called Final Gift told me it would cost $25 to get me some fur. Seriously? The amount you give for $25? Had I know this prior I would have cut all the hair I wanted for free. They get you through their grief. I gave this feedback to both Final Gift and the hospital, it's only right that people know this before hand so they can make the decision. So cut your pet's hair before you bring him in to the animal hospital if you don't want to pay this.

To codify the visit as such says a…read morelot, given that we'd schlepped there regarding an unresolved, terribly worrisome medical issue (recurrent ear infections causing vestibular issues) experienced by my otherwise purrfect, sweet, ebullient albeit occasional douchebag of miracle of a cat, Faunti (little Lord Fauntleroy, AKA Homeslice). We drove from Brooklyn to see DR. TIM CHAN, THE DERMATOLOGIST, because the excellent ER vet we saw at VERG, the best ER in Brooklyn, recommended him (he was a resident at Tufts when she was a grad student there). Hot tip: Dr. Chan is newish to the practice so at present you can get in with this brilliant, research-oriented yet utterly humanistic, thorough AF, compassionate, personable dermatologist much quicker than you can at NYC specialist clinics like Blue Pearl (obviously if you're local, even better!). It took us an hour and 15 minutes to get to VCA from Park Slope, Brooklyn (it would taken us an hour to get to the Upper East Side after parking so it's not that much of a further schlep after all). After going to Dr. Chan, I wouldn't feel comfortable going to anyone else for my animal's dermatological care (who knew that veterinary derms were ear specialists)? We'd been through the wringer when we got to VCA. Three generalist vet appointments and two ER visits and I felt nothing was resolved prior to the visit. Initially, there had been just a clear discharge and some head shaking but when the ear infection recurred, our little bunny of a pussycat was suffering from vestibular issues (extreme dizziness causing constant falls, bugged out eyes, and a head tilt) and the ER doc at VERG had strongly recommended we visit Dr Chan given that every time he went off an antibiotic, he'd immediately become symptomatic again. Dr. Chan went over pros and cons of different treatment options. He detailed the condition of Faunti's ears so throughly. He used a video otoscope to examine Faunti's ears. Generalists don't have this equipment and they were repeatedly unable to detect the state of one of Faunti's eardrums (whether it was in tact or completely ruptured) and Chan was able to determine its condition (if the eardrum is ruptured, ear cleaning at home isn't possible) and to get more literal insight into what was informing the recurrences. Chan has a delightful bedside manner and he conveys things cogently and intelligibly to dumbasses like myself. He knew so much about the anatomy of the ear of course and took into account every last variable of the backstory to make his recommendations. I was so so impressed by this doctor! I kind of wish he also practiced general veterinary medicine cause I'd schlep up to VCA for my little strudel's general vet care. A great thing about VCA is that they have an on-site CT scan should one be needed. I'd discovered that not every dermatologist I was considering had a CT scan on-site. If they don't, the animal has to go under anesthesia twice at two separate facilities should a CT scan and then a deep ear flush be warranted. VCA is a one-stop shop, as they have all diagnostic radiological equipment on-site. The nursing/vet tech, and front desk staff at the practice are absurdly wonderful. The place is also spotless. Shout out to Adriana and Kristina (nursing/vet techs) who are GEMS. They made our elderly cat feel like he was the belle of the ball, even while he was undergoing a fairly uncomfortable ear-cleaning. By the end, I felt hurt and embarrassed that Faunti didn't seem to want to stop hugging Kristina in order to go home with us! I'm like, "Bitch, make it seem like you love us as much as we love you!" But seriously, Adriana did a very comprehensive intake with us (sorry I babbled, you were so patient and asked such great questions) and was so gentle with Faunti. Kristina gave us great pointers on how to best dose, clean ears, and clip nails at home. VCA manages your expectations regarding billing (they send you an estimate, which includes a high and low of what you can expect to pay) and I was not shamed when I asked if there was a less expensive treatment option. Regarding cost, I didn't feel like anything was tacked on to pad the bill (and I have felt that way at times at other veterinary offices). What we were charged was totally fair if not on the low end of what I was expecting to pay given the quality of care and Chan's technical capabilities. We also have a very detailed estimate of what the next possible procedure will cost if Faunti suffers another recurrence. We've been in a two and half month nightmare with this situation and we finally found someone who could guide the ship to safer waters and for that we are infinitely grateful! Sorry for this dreadfully boring and meandering review if you read this far. I think it's safe to say I'm a fangirl of this doctor and his practice.

In the past we went ton other emergency vets and unfortunately it was always a long wait, you were away from your dog the entire time, and they wouldn't release your dog to you until after you paid. VEG is different than all those places. We were seen immediately and while they do have an open concept ER, they gave us a private room just in case. The nurse (Diana) and the vet (Dr. Schwartz) were all incredible. They took such good care of our dog and us! They allow you to be with your pet during X-rays which I found amazing. The behavior this practice has exhibited has been avoidant, evasive and disappointing. I called distressed after my dog was having complications healing from surgery after a lipoma removal. We arrived on a busy Sunday and were taken at the end of a triage. During our time there I voiced to MULTIPLE techs that my dog was bleeding through his gauze. 2/3 responses were a deadpan stare and the words "ok". It took 3 times of me asking/ pleading for someone to listen to me. Even then I was armed with loose gauze and a wee wee pad. When we were finally seen I was so relieved i let this all fall away. I was so happy my pet was taken care of I went home following their orders and protocol. The next day I realized all the sutures at the site had fallen out and we were back at square one after spending hundreds of dollars. Naturally I was upset and placed a call to the location. I was placed on an infinite hold 3 times with no answer until i called from my friend's phone to which they picked up immediately. I have been calling every day since Monday with not a single person giving me a call back or without any financial compensation for the negligent job they did. I have given them since Monday to give me a call back and fix this. I've called every day without a call back. So if you don't care about your pets or spending unnecessary money this is the place for you!

Unfortunately, my dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur which I was unaware of, so they did not feel comfortable giving her the sedation she needed to take proper X-rays of a possible hip or lower back injury, which was a bit concerning. We did have a long wait, but to be fair, it was a rough night there and there were pets there with more significant injuries, so I appreciated their prioritizing them. They were able to administer pain meds though, which helped my dog feel much more comfortable overnight until I get her in to see her regular vet the following day. The bill was a bit high for just a preliminary evaluation, a basic cbc, and one shot of pain killer but it was worth having some peace of mind that my dog was seen and in far less discomfort overnight. I would definitely go back if I needed to, as the care she received was prudent and they were honest with me about their concerns about the risk of sedation for my particular dog.

Anyone remember Central Vet in Valley Stream? This is just a rebrand of the same low rent practice…read more That should tell you everything you need to know. RUN, and fast! With a dedicated appointment, these people made my cat wait 12 hours and continued to bump him for other patients without having any intake, questions, or indication what was wrong to have any understanding where he fell in the ranking order of priority. My cat could have had a fatal obstruction, but they priorotized dogs while making all the cats wait needlessly in pain. Their poor patient management and improper staffing (1 vet & 1 tech for a massive practice for a full 24 hour shift on a Saturday) is what prevented my cat from getting critical care from another more equipped vet earlier in the day due to their inability to manage their bandwidth. I was patient and waited 12 hours and opted for an appointment that I was told I would definitely have if I waited and came in later in the day, so I took it. I sat in the waiting room for three hours as I listened to the receptionist lie from one patient to the next that was calling or walking in saying they had multiple urgent animals in the back (they had one dog in an oxygen chamber). She repeatedly told customers the vet was "in over her head" and was turning people away. A fully alert dog with no visible injuries and showing zero signs of distress was whisked away ahead of my cat who is suffering in pain for an unknown cause. When I shared my frustrations with the receptionist, the veterinarian, who was supposedly caring to the "urgent" dog that was taken ahead of me only 3 minutes earlier, managed to step away from her "critical" care of the animal to come out and scream at me and make a scene in front of the whole waiting room. It was beyond unprofessional and if it was my animal that was supposedly critical, and she diverted her attention away to come out and chastise a pet owner for advocating for their own animal's health and well being rather than tending to my critical pet, I would question that veterinarian's judgment and oath to do no harm. Only someone with major impulse control issues would be unable to control their temper that they"d step away from such a supposedly "critical" case like that. The other cat that was forced to wait too was there a week earlier with a major jaw abscess infection they failed to heal and she was also waiting hours. It was clear the vet prioritizes dog care over cat care. Just walking inside the walls are filled with dog images only, no other pets. Their merchandise is for dogs only: bowls, leashes, toys, etc! Go on the website, the images, all dogs. The vet isn't smart enough to know she's showing her bias right in her marketing of the practice. They couldn't handle the caseload, and canine care outranked feline. The receptioniat assessed each dog coming in, but didn't even take one look in my cats direction. Dog owners were questioned upon entry, cat owners were told "the wait would be a while and to sit inside". PetOne is not equipped to run the type of business they present themselves to be. They never should have made my appointment if they couldn't manage the patient load and should have told me an appointment is not guaranteed, and that they are taking dogs over cats in order of priority. That failure of critical patient care prevented my cat from getting medical care hours earlier from a more reputable and capable facility as I had called at 10 am and had all day to seek out an alternative had I known my appointment wasn't real. This practice when they were located in Valley Stream had more legal services on staff than they did actual vets. They had so many legal issues, they were forced to retain full time council at one point to keep up with the case load of legions of unhappy customers/patients. Do your research on Central Vet in Valley Stream before you make the decision to bring your pet to PetOne. Their reputation is trash, just like the vet who stepped away from patient care to make a scene and yell at a human advocating for their animal.
