I have two cats, Dobby and Oliver. They love going to see Dr. Mule and Dr. Koch at Banfield in Springfield, PA! Both doctors are extremely thorough and offer great tips on keeping my pets healthy. I am a wellness plan customer so I never have to pay for office visits or vaccines. I get all other services at a discount. I think their prices are comparable to any other veterinary practice. The front desk staff is polite, professional and caring. They know my cats by name and always put their names on the welcome board the day of their visit! read more

They diagnosed her, helped mitigate costs that i couldn't afford, and i saved 82$ with their coupon for a first free vet visit. my vet bill was 46$ and i was sent away with 2 medications. Banfield is a joke! In September of 2024, I took my cat Magic to the one in Springfield because I noticed that she had been loosing weight. They did some bloodwork and said nothing was wrong with her. On my own I started giving her high caloric cat food and feeding her away from our other cats so that we could monitor how much she was eating. Nothing changed so we returned in November. That female vet was a joke and said nothing was wrong also. So we requested and paid for an appetite stimulant. Magic's weight kept falling and eventually she passed on February 19, 2025. Now they have reported me to a collection agency for $357 for expenses supposedly not covered by the wellness plan despite never providing me with a bill, a letter or even a phone call. I am pulling out my dog from Banfield and telling everyone to stay away from this company which pretends to be a "hospital" if you really care about your pet! read more

Before I start my tangent, I will say the only veterinarian I respect at this location is Dr. Towl. He is professional, knowledgeable, friendly and my dog is least anxious when we get Dr. Towl for our appointments. That other doctor, Dr. Shamphale is just unacceptable and honestly a joke. I am almost postive there was a listing for a new vet hire and they just picked him for funsies. There is no way he is supposed to pass as an actual vet. He never has anything helpful or knowledgeable to say, in fact at my last appointment, the passive aggressive assistant from the front desk was the main one speaking, like where is the Doctor listed for this appointment and are they available to speak to the patients or??? Labeling a dog aggressive because you are incompetent and incapable as a PET DOCTOR! to administer a vaccine is what set me off. He's anxious and scared, he's at a vet and there's way too many people cosplaying as medical professionals surrounding him with a syringe in their hands. He isn't lunging at or persuing anyone, so why insinuate that he's aggressive when he's shown no aggression?? Dr. Towl himself has told us that he's not in the slightest aggressive, just very anxious. This business is inexperienced in working with animals. They may have written requirements fulfilled to work here but their bedside manner and customer service are horrible. Not to mention, when they unsuccessfully complete the appointment, you'll have to inconvenience yourself and make multiple visits because they can never get the task done right the first time. If you prefer your veterinary experience with a heaping helping of dismissiveness - then the Springfield, PA Banfield location is for you. I took my newly adopted dog in for a routine checkup, and to have them look at something the dog threw up the day before. Not only did the initial technician (Wendy) barely look at the thrown up item I presented within a plastic baggie, but she also barely looked at me. She had a sort of, "I can't really be bothered with this today" kind of attitude. Now in all fairness, she did use baby talk when taking my sweetheart to be tested for heartworm. That was nice! But that was the extent of niceties we received during our visit (except for the receptionist who was actually very nice). And then there was Dr. Shamphale. I'll keep this brief by saying he never even touched my dog. Never touched him! I've never seen a vet not touch the animal AT ALL during a visit. Dr. Shamphale just leaned back against the wall like he was James Dean about to smoke a cigarette. Now he did look at the thrown up item which was nice, but he was dismissive by saying just, "Yeah. Probably." when I wondered allowed if the item were an entire half bagel swallowed whole. He did also recommend fish oil tablets for the dog food - so I suppose that's something. But man did these people act as if they absolutely hate their jobs. I've never experienced anything like it - and I hope I never do again. That said, I will NEVER use Banfield again. I have a 16 year old cat (oldest of 3 that all are on Wellness plans) that all have been going to Banfield since day 1. There were some issues (mostly staffing) when they moved out of PetSmart Springfield to their stand-alone location. I never have an issue when visiting this location. For those that call the Wellness plan a "scam", it's not. If you had read the fine print before you signed up, you would have seen that you DO still have to pay for the rest of the plan year if your pet passes away. It's right there in black and white ink in the fine print. If you know this going in, then it's not a "surprise" later. The plan cost is averaged out over the plan year with your monthly payments, which is why your bill is much lower each visit as you've essentially prepaid. However, you do have to make up the unused anticipated cost. It is NOT insurance. They make that VERY clear. it is a discount plan for *routine care* with the cost spread out monthly. (Human medical biller here, so very familiar with human insurance) read more

Had to unfortunately put my dog to sleep and I can't cancel my plan for 6 months or pay 400 more dollars which I don't have right now. Feel like the wellness plan is a bit of a scam. read more

We have been with the Springfield Banfield since 2014. We broke up once as I was tired of the employees pushing unnecessary medications, tests, etc. WARNING: If you don't push back and question if these "recommended" procedures/products are needed, your bill can quickly triple in cost. I had the worst experience this past week with Banfield. Firstly, my dog is a senior dog and does NOT do well during her dental cleaning. In the past, it would take 2 days for her to recover from the heavy sedation and would shake for a day and a half afterwards. It's heartbreaking to witness. I always bring this concern up with the staff when booking the dental appointments. On Wednesday, I dropped her off at 7am. My dog gets panic attacks at her appointments so my main goal is to get her in and out as fast as humanly possible. In the past, she has been discharged as early as 2:30pm. I carried on with my day but started to get concerned that Banfield had not called me back by 11am. I called and was told that she was "next up" as there was a spay ahead of her that had complications. At 4:52 pm, I called back as they close at 6pm. Again, they mentioned the spay and many unforeseen issues with OTHER pets. At this point, she had been waiting 10 HOURS for a dental cleaning and had been bumped to the back of the line. I mentioned that I was concerned that they were closing in an hour. They assured me they would complete the cleaning. At 6:01, Banfield called me to tell me: my dog had just been sedated, they were starting her cleaning, and she would be ready at 6:30pm. How ridiculous is that? It felt cruel that my dog had to suffer all day as Banfield didn't have their shit together. It appears that they don't have enough people on staff to handle the workload which is absolutely unprofessional. Their communication was terrible. My dog was heavily sedated and whimpering for hours that evening. Do not take your beloved pets here!!! read more

I was bringing my dog here for close to 3 years and a change in vet raised questions, like why my bill was going to be so high due to claiming she couldn't tell what was causing the behavior, issues with changing the plan because they don't want you using it as a treatment option- stating it is not insurance and we have to pay out of pocket and the ego so big she cant hear others. Simple solution- I changed vets and my bill was much cheaper and they did a true exam on my dog, easily identifying my dogs issue without any screenings, extra blood work and all that BS hoopla! They gathered an extensive history and background spending time with both me and the dog. They were even aware and able to describe her personality and behaviors better than most ppl at Banfield by spending time with her in the appt and observing her. Backtracking led them to the trigger and cause. I get being confident in your skills but when you think you know so much you are not listening to your customers, your credentials and skills lose all value. Btw: saying "Ma'am I hear what you are saying, but" really means you heard nothing and don't want to hear it. The way they "handled" the issue with the plan change, they repeated the same thing- it isn't insurance and said pay out of pocket. So how can you compare it to that and say it is better yet it is worth nothing because the bill is always like $200. You always need blood work that isn't covered. Hmmm!? Decision- plan cancelled! Saved money by seeing vets at a real hospital and they refused to put my dog through all the recommended testing when they knew it wasn't the issue. Of course they said I could do the testing and it was up to me but they had a plan for my dog and it worked! No test or crazy bills. Tip: Just get insurance, some have the option to add the plan to it for vaccines. Don't go here or any bandfield! Go to a Vet and real hospital that spends time with you and your dog gathering a very detailed history and patiently waiting and trying to jog your memory for triggers. Go to a vet that doesn't want to put your dog through a load of unnecessary test knowing humans don't like that why would the dog? I was warned about them in advance too, go figure! read more

This Banfield is one of the worst locations that I've been to. The lady at the front desk totally disregarded me as I stood at the desk, waiting to be checked in. She told me that she was working on something urgent and someone would be up to assist me. I stood at the desk 10 minutes before being checked in for my pet's appointment. The staff wasn't warm or friendly to my pet as they've been at previous locations. It seems like they have the wrong people working at the hospital, they aren't professional or kind. The same care that I expect from my doctors office, is the same principles and care that I expect for my pet. It seems that I will have to resort to traveling farther to get better service. We have been patients of this vet for 18 months and will not be returning. They consistently push unnecessary procedures, vitamins, medicines and vaccinations to increase the cost of your visit. There is an extreme lack of communication during Covid. I called three weeks ago to have my dog scheduled for a visit with a vet because of his extreme anxiety. I explained his symptoms to the Receptionist who went back and forth with the veterinarian. The veterinarian agreed that it sounded like my dog probably needed some anti-anxiety medicine but said he wouldn't prescribe it unless he could physically view the dog since the dog hadn't been in in five months. So the soonest appointment I could get was 3 weeks later. I scheduled an appointment to drop off my 90 pound extremely anxious dog at 8o'clock in the morning and he was not seen by a doctor until 3:45 PM because the doctors were "scheduled for a surgery day and saw patients in between". He spent the entire day in a cage in the dark, without exercise or use of the bathroom which is incredibly anxiety provoking for him. I explained that when he is in a cage at home he is self injurious. I explained all of this to the vet called twice to ask that he be removed from the cage for fear that he would hurt himself or be even more anxious than he normally is. I only needed a doctor to write me a prescription for symptoms that he would never be able to observe in a 10 minute examination. The doctor never called me. I was never able to speak with the doctor about the things my dog was experiencing and they wrote a prescription anyway.. I still do not know if the dog was even seen. I will never go back to this vet. read more

Worst place ever when it comes to the actually health of your pet. Dr.Azam prescribed Rimadyl for my dogs pain, my dog started to break out from the medicine. Instead of giving me a refund and or seeing my pet for a free check up she tells me that rimadyl does not cause scabs, spots,red bumps etc. How is this so, because Its written clear as day on the RIMIDYL website itself that these are some of the reactions to the medicine. I have been using Banfield for years with my first pet Buddy and now with my dog Seven. I think the staff is great and always is pleasant and helpful. I have one complaint. Lately every time I go you have someone new working there. This speaks volumes about your company when you can't keep your employees happy enough to stay. A happy employee makes your company be all it can be! While you raise your prices why don't you raise your pay for your employees as well. It's obvious they are overworked and underpaid. It shows in how difficult it is to speak with someone let alone get the appt you want. Hire more staff and keep them happy. People see this and it doesn't look good when acquiring customers and keeping the ones you have. read more

I would not recommend Banfield (Springfield, PA). They techs and even the vets pressure you into signing up for the wellness plan, but DO NOT fully explain how it works. They make sure you know you can cancel at any time, however neglect to tell you that you are responsible for the services used (at the undiscounted price the wellness plan allows) if you cancel before 12 months of payments. We would not have taken our dog there as often as we did if we were told that we would be responsible for the remaining balance if we cancel. We also have found cheaper services through local organizations and pet hospitals. I do NOT appreciate feeling pressured to sign up for the wellness plan at the first 3 visits, 3rd being the visit my husband and I discussed (via text!) to sign up. It sounded great the way it was presented to me and the vet and tech stood there while i read my text to my husband out loud before sending. They KNEW my understanding of the plan. That is so unprofessional and a complete misrepresentation of what "cancelling at any time" actually means! Plus they make you pay for a cone after a spay or neutering. Shouldn't that be included? When an issue occurred recently with our puppy, I was unable to see the vet we have been using for our other dogs. At a suggestion from an out-of-state friend who has Banfield as her pets' vet, I called the Springfield location. Never meeting me/our dog before and having yet to schedule an appointment, the staff were more than willing to answer questions and offer advice. I have to say now that I absolutely love this place! We have had multiple visits since that phone call and Dr. Koch and the techs have been wonderful with not only my dog but our family. The techs have taken the time to review every aspect of our dog's history since her last visit and are willing to discuss any questions or concerns I may have. Dr. Koch expresses care for not only our dog but our family as well. In my opinion he has gone above what is expected of him. Needless to say, we have since transferred both dogs' records over to Banfield. read more

We started taking our pets to this Banfield location in 2009. We were very satisfied with the care our pets received and the customer service. Soon after we got our puppy, i brought him inside after going to the bathroom and noticed blood on his foot. His foot continued to bleed everywhere and he wouldn't let me touch it to see where the blood was coming from. I called Banfield hysterical and they said I could bring him right in. It ended up that he somehow broke off one of his toenails, but they were very nice and treated it as the "emergency" that I felt it was at the time. We left this area in 2011. We have not been happy with out new vet and on two occasions were unable to even get appointment. Both times, we called this Banfield location and were able to get our dog in right away. read more

I agree with Renee. We left Old Marple due to ridiculous pricing and that "factory" feel. Since joining Banfield, we have been thrilled at the care and courtesy we have received. They are very upfront about any out of pocket payments you need to make (which are always WAY lower than Old Marple). Anytime we had an emergency, we were fit in immediately. Recently we had to put our 16 year old dog down. They could not have been more sympathetic and gentle. I have recommended Banfield to others, all who have been very happy. I was not impressed with Dr. Mule or the hospital at all. The tech is also the receptionist which really slows the appts down, and she wasn't friendly- she never said hi to my dog. Dr. Mule had no reaction at all to my happy go lucky 6 yr old dog who was there for his yearly vaccines. I had to remind the Dr to give my dog a treat after the exam! My cat was the main reason I came in- he had a crazy reaction to frontline and we just moved to the area and needed a new vet. My dog needed his yearly vaccines. They orginally quoted me $250 to do the rabies, parvo, bordatella and Leptosypirosis, lyme and the stool and blood tests + the office visit. My cats bill was $173 which was also high, but it was all needed for his reaction. Although the cat's antibotics were the highest price I've ever had after looking through his records for the exact same meds! POINT IS- they have a "wellness" program for the dogs that runs $415 per year + $69 one time fee... so they rack up the basic vaccines and tell you the dental cleanings runs about $250 so with that added to todays quote you should just get the plan they say.... I don't think so. First off I didn't need all those vaccines, I just asked for rabies, parvo and lyme. And instead of asking me to bring in a stool sample they were going to charge for "taking" one! Beside the rackateer of the vaccines- Dr. Mule seemed like he didn't ever like the animals. He was very uncomfortable handling my cat, and didn't intereact with my super friendly goofy dog at all. Then to top it off- he didn't wash his hands before leaving the room! Seriously?! Not cool. I won't be going back there again. That's what I get for trying Banfield. For my dog I would of been better off going to the Petco cheap vaccine clinic! read more

If i could give this place no stars i would... i have a friend that works for Banfield she was over my house when my dog fell violently ill. She suggested to go to Banfield and told me how excellent they were, Well sadly i took her advice. You guys claim to welcome walk ins well your very rude receptionist informed me while my dog was coughing up bile all over the floor that they do not take walk ins and that the website is wrong and there was nothing they could do ( let me mind you it was 2 o'clock and completely empty both rooms were open) She reused my dog help and said she could squeeze me in on Tuesday. Well long story short my dog is currently under going emergency surgery with a vet that wasn't "to busy" for him, and i will NEVER go to nor recommend/allow any of my family/friends. Dr. Koch is very personable and a few of the nurses go above their job description to make our visit a positive one. However, the "practice manager" has been condescending and unapproachable since the beginning. Ruins the feel of the otherwise pleasant experience. We had always been very happy with Banfield during the three years that we've been taking our dog there. The vets and staff seem very caring and knowledgeable. However they recently lost a veterinarian, and have decided not to replace him. This has made it very difficult to receive a sick visit. When we called to try to get our very sick dog seen on a Saturday, we were told it was impossible to see him until Thursday. Not only is that heartless, but also extremely dangerous. I was sucked into the puppy wellness plan. It sounds like a great deal...while they're selling it to you, they tell you all visits are covered, all shots, and spaying the dog. Sounds great for a little over $400 a year. Well, we just got to the stage of getting our puppy spayed. Upon drop off, I was told that my total would be seventy something dollars when I picked her up. I had my husband go and pick the dog up that afternoon... he paid over $100! Banfield threw in extra medications (flea and heartworm) which were not previously discussed or ok'd with me or my husband. He accepted the meds and total at checkout because he thought I had asked for it. On top of the extras, I had to pay out of pocket for an e collar (which she chewed right through...so there goes about $40!), and her pain meds. A few days into recovery, I began calling the Pet Hospital because the incision was leaking fluid and blood. I kept being told that the dr would call me back. A few minutes before closing, I called back and asked why I didn't get a call back. The person who answered the phone said that I never left messages with her...(which she really did not sound like the previous receptionist that I had left messages with that day). I was told that they were a few minutes from closing. I demanded to talk to the dr...and I was basically told that she was fine, keep her crated to promote healing, and take her to an emergency vet if needed. I have a wellness plan that includes vet visits with Banfield...why should I have to take my dog somewhere else for care... because you don't want customers to get their money's worth out of the plan? Not to mention, I feel that if you performed the surgery on the dog, you are responsible for her follow up care. Not some other vet who has no knowledge of the dogs history. The vet called me a couple days later to follow up, and I told her the leaking still had not stopped. (At this point, two other vets told me that if they were treating her, they would have seen her and prescribed antibiotics). I was instructed to wait until the follow up. Again, because this is "big business" and its not cost effective for the dog to have another visit. Well, her follow up visit was today...and my husband left paying about $140 again. These costs were for additional pain meds and antibiotics. The antibiotic was over $100! Other vets would not have charged that. It was disheartening to learn that my dog has been suffering and in pain while just waiting for her follow up appointment. If Banfield would have listened to me when I said that it was not healing right, my dog could have been comfortable sooner. Lastly, I was reviewing my dogs blood work results from before her surgery. No one ever went over them with us. I saw on the results that the dogs PHOS levels were above normal. Upon doing some research, everything says that it is a sign of a kidney issue... weather it be stones, infection, failure... But it was never discussed with us. I will have to inquire about it at our next visit...and sadly, I am at a point where I wont know if I can trust their answer. Will that be another opportunity to upsell me something? We really like the vet that always cares for our dog. Unfortunately, Banfield and their wellness plans are just big business here to turn a profit and upsell you. I have paid about $250 additional for a spay that was supposed to be included in the plan...the plan that already costs over $400. There is no big savings to this. Once this plan is expired, we WILL NOT be renewing and looking for an honest, reputable, caring vet in our area. read more
