My dog was bleeding from his rear paw, we are talking about a nonstop puddle of blood. It was also the night of a thunderstorm and those turn him into a nervous wreck and now, I found myself taking him at night, turning a pandemic and a time when protests are turning into riots. Not an ideal situation do deal with an emergency. The staff was kind and compassionate. The protocols they have to follow are cumbersome, but they carry on and ultimately all was well. I saw other dogs who had very issues being handled by them. Their compassion was greatly appreciated. Nice to know I can rely on them in a crisis. read more

I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed in them, on New Year's Eve I took my dog there it was an emergency she was not eating and couldn't get up we knew it was her time she was 13yrs our vet was closed. They told me she was dehydrated but I wanted to know if we had to put her down, they said they needed to take X-rays and blood work to see, they didn't check her at all but took the time to text me a bill for this($957) I took her home went to her vet the next day he checked her heart and her throat she had a lump and it was her time we put her down. They let my baby suffer one more night it was about the money for them. read more

Our 14 year old dog recently got very sick and had to be put down. It was very difficult for the entire family, but we're glad we came to the VEG in Clifton for our dog's final few days with us. No one ever wants to experience the death of a close pet, but they accommodated our needs and made her feel as comfortable as possible. All the staff members and the vets were very kind and professional, and our family appreciates their help. We took our 10 week old Golden Retriever to Veterinary Emergency Group today (recommended by vet since they were fully booked until next week) after he wasn't himself and we thought he may have some UTI issues, From start to finish it was 5 stars. Easy and quick check in. All done on Mobil phone from parking lot. Staff met me at the door and was extremely polite. Shared all necessary details. Provided an estimated wait time (under 60 minutes) and the option to go home or stay and wait. They will give us a phone call when done. To talk with doctor over the phone. Dr. Susan Rothstein called and gave us a full update. She was very knowledgeable and also very generous on sharing all information we needed to know. As a matter of the xylitol in the gym is toxic depending on the amount swallowed. Well, initially Dr. Brooke and her team took the most aggressive approach in order to keep her from going into liver failer. The next crew came in, Dr Yerovi and staff continued with the same approach until we returned home, dumped out the trash and recounted all the wrappers and gum remaining. Be very skeptical and use your own judgement! Seeing these reviews, I second Brian G's review which was very similar to my experience. Their approach suggests incompetence, lack of experience and willful price gauging. Seems their MO is to provide you with a litany of tests and procedures to the tune of $2000 as soon as you walk in the door. All the tests you've already had done at your Vet. People who accept to go through all of these because they are in emotional distress, get first priority. Because I wouldn't accept the two page test recommendation I waited and waited and waited while they prioritized those who accepted the full charges. A total of 4 hours! You must pay for everything upfront before they will properly assess the situation. The approach is always worse case scenario to add to your emotional distress!! My pet had a fever...that should have been the first indication that there was some kind of infection. But they don't use common sense. They just provide you with a list of tests to perform upfront with no logical thinking behind it. My pet tested positive for Lyme disease, and all the symptoms clearly presented that--a google search reveals each and every one of these clearly. An experienced Vet would have seen that upfront. I only accepted certain tests they listed--the lyme test was the last--and still walked out with a bill close to $1000. read more

I can't say enough good things about Clifton VEG. My cat had a rare medical condition (hepatic encephalopathy secondary to a portosystemic shunt) and in his two years of life we visited VEG 12 times. They were there to diagnose him and take me seriously when other vets thought I was nuts for thinking he had this condition, and they were amazing at treating him every other time we were there (all for HE episodes or foreign body ingestion), including when they helped me let him go last week. They let me be totally involved in his care and the doctors and techs would go out of their way to visit us during treatment, even if they were off the clock. I just got a sympathy card in the mail from them signed by some of the staff who treated Ollie over the course of his short life. The night he died was one of the darkest moments of my life but the kindness and compassion Ollie and I got that evening will be the thing I remember the most. read more

After not liking the vet my in laws used for my baby girl Jessie I decided her behavior wasn't normal took her in. Place is very organized. Checked in they text me the form to fill out sat down and like 30 seconds later got called in. There's a board on the wall that lists the animals in order they came in weight and why the pet was there. Now Jessie is very confused and upset at this time because she's only an indoor cat. She didn't know what going on and tried to escape and the assistants they were gentle with her she was a lot better then (the old vet she was clinging on the table she want no part of going there) they ran tests on her and the Vet Dr. Adrianna was very nice, helpful & told us everything in terms we could understand. Unfortunately not good for my girl news wise, but that's not on them and they did what they could for her she's 16 years old with cancer. I definitely suggest coming here for fantastic care. I had this experience in the summer of 2021 when my son was 5 months old. I had to bring my dog in because he was unable to move. I wheeled my son in his stroller while carrying my dog and no one opened the door for me when I arrived. They gave my dog a bed in the midst of where the handle the animals as there was no room in the waiting area. I was there for 6 hours before they checked out my dog who was laying limp on the floor. I nursed my son next to where a dog received surgery and another the dog threw up underwear. You can't even make this up and my story gets worse. After they finally took blood and x rays the vet told me they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him and were going to give him some steroids and gave me my 1,000 dollar bill. By now everyone there had become my friend as they observed me care for my baby in this insane situation. A woman told me that my dog looks like he had lymes and asked if they had checked for that. I went back and asked and she said no and ran the tests and it turned out to be lymes and charged me another 300 dollars.It isn't the money, while that is crazy for obvious reasons but can you even believe how I was treated with my baby. I literally had my boob out in front of everyone while nursing and you would think they would have hurried things a long for me but I was there for a total of 8 hours and would have not received any answers if it wasn't for the woman in the waiting room. My son took 3 naps and ate 4 times while I was there. I wanted to share this story because it is so disgusting and I would recommend against anyone to go here. read more

We had to bring the dog we are sitting for a visit because of wait times with local vets. Dusty had an abscess needing attention. Just as promised on the web page, we were brought in immediately. The ladies got on the floor to calm him and attend to his needs. Everyone is so kind and professional as well as informative. Not long after the brief exam, a Dr. came out and explained what had to be done taking time to cover every detail. Even with an urgent case that needed a lot of attention, we did not wait long for the procedure to begin. My wife was with him the whole time, and as estimated, within an hour of the start of the procedure, we were on our way with clear instructions and medicine. The only reason for the lack of 5 stars is they put the wrong size cone on his neck. He was not able to eat or drink and since we don't drive, my wife cut it back a little shorter. We won't hesitate to visit again in the event of an unforeseen incident. read more

My 15.5 year old Jack Russell, Jake wasn't doing well for the last few weeks and we knew it was just a matter of time before we would have to put him down. I actually felt selfish that I waited. Anyway, April 30th he was in a really bad way. With the pandemic going on, no one would come to the house. I did some research and found Veterinary Emergency Group right in Clifton. I called and spoke to the most compassionate lady. Her name escapes me, but while I was explaining the situation, I started to cry and she kept telling me it was ok and she understood. Everything was done via text because of the pandemic and social distancing. My husband brought our good boy to them. Unfortunately, he had to give Jake to them in the lot but the lady I spoke with promised me he wouldn't be alone. My husband returned home with Jakes blanket and we cried a lot. Today, we got a call from VEG and they had his ashes ready to come home. It was in a beautiful box with a lock and his name of top. They also took his paw print in clay and put it in a keepsake box with a beautiful poem. I can't begin to tell you the compassion this place has and how beautiful they make it for you to bring you fur baby back home. Thank you to everyone of you!!! This is going to be long so please just read till the end. I never really write reviews but I do think that this review needs to be written. I have always been skeptical of emergency vets for a number of reasons, however, my dog, Ladi, 16 years old, Plott Hound Mix rescued from the South 14 years ago and very afraid of everyone and everything had a growth on her left side. I tried whatever I could to get it to heal, however, with every day it was getting worse. So on 8/9 off to the VEG we went. Let me tell you she was a hot mess as I was, she has bad hips and could barely stand up on the office flooring. I was ready to walk out with her...but knew better not to. Long story short, they took her vitals and we were in line to be seen and all during this time a vet assistant by the name of Ally sat on the floor with my dog petting her and making her feel comfortable. Ally was so caring, kind and compassionate with her she finally settled down and dozed off. The doctor came in and examined her and 2 other assistants came in and cleaned the area and gave us the meds for her and we were on our way. I would highly recommend this emergency group hands down. My pup Lucy had a seizure around 4:30am totally out of the blue. Scared me so much. I googled emergency vet hospitals and found VEG. I am so glad I did! We brought her in and all the staff was amazing. So comforting and compassionate as well as efficient and thorough. My girl ended up having 2 more seizures in 24 hours and needed to be hospitalized for 24 hours of observation. I got a timely update about halfway through and a prompt morning phone call saying she was seizure free and good to go on meds! These last couple of days have been so scary but I finally feel a bit calmer knowing VEG is just a phone call away if I need them after hours. And they send visit summaries with instructions very quickly and they are very thorough. Highly recommend! read more

Dr. Silver and her staff saved my cat and I could not be more thankful. I had originally brought my cat to the Oradell Animal Hospital and they charged me over 500 for X-rays and a visit. They found nothing on the X-ray. I took my cat back the next day and was disappointed to feel pressured into letting them perform surgery on my cat and not giving me an estimate on what it would cost, rather I was given an extremely low to extremely high price for the surgery that my cat might not survive. They also wanted to charge me to take X-rays again. I felt they were pretty cold about the whole thing, but fortunately we found NJVES and they told us to bring him right in. Dr. Silver was extremely knowledgable right from the start and automatically knew what the issue was, even before the X-rays were taken. She DID find something on the X-ray and my cat was taken in for surgery that night. He had thread removed from his intestines and most likely would not have survived the night. Everyone was incredibly caring and I felt very comfortable putting my cat in their care. No one rushed me out and answered all my questions! I also had my cat stay for an extra night to be watched. I highly recommend bringing your animal here. I am more than satisfied and will continue using them for any animal emergencies. Thank you so much! It is nice to know there is a Emergency Vet out there that actually wants to help and cares for animals. read more

I don't usually give reviews but my experience with this place was by far the worst and has pushed me to give an honest review. I took my kitten her on Saturday because she was not eating or drinking and just sleeping all day, which is so not like her. Just to be safe I brought her to the ER. I knew she wasn't in a critical condition. 7 hours after they took her in I got contacted saying she was stable and in a good position and the doctor will call me. Doctor called me about an hour later saying they want to run some blood work and x ray. I felt as if it was unnecessary and wanted to take her home. This doctor then called me back saying if I take her home, she might possibly pass away overnight. So basically they denied releasing her and scaring me by saying she will die. Only someone who has a pet and loves their pet will understand What that news does to you. So I allow them to begin the xrays and blood work. I call back to check in and the same man who told me she was in a stable position said she looks fine and great!!! So now I'm aggravated because first of all how can the doctor say she will pass away overnight meanwhile their staff member has told me twice she looks great. 12 hours later, my brother goes in and she looks perfectly fine. The doctor told us she just has a minor cold. Not even a MAJOr cold, a minor cold. She compared a minor cold to death. Stay away from their place. They took advantage of my vulnerability for some money. They turned a $200 visit into $1,300. They offered me to apply for care credit and once i told them It's all set, they asked me how much did I get approved for? That's none of your business. If I'm telling you it's all set and handled then it's all set and handled. I have been trying to find out who the manager is to complain. I hope no one ever has to go through what I went through. Just stay away from this place. I was calm and patient throughout the entire process until the next day when I thought everything through with a clear mind. Will continue to get in touch and try to contact the owner or manager of this place. What I experienced was unprofessional, unethical and cruel. - Update 08/21: They never got in contact with me and nor was I able to reach out to anyone. read more

They claim "VEG is the emergency vet you can rely on to be there for you and your pet when you need it most." I called their office asking for help pull out my dogs tooth. It's completely loose and has a small red patch of blood. They woman on the phone claimed they could not help me because they do not do dental work. What kind of emergency place is this that they cannot help with something they should have the tools for. Hopefully her mouth doesn't get infected while waiting for her vet. Usually I would call my veterinarian but like most everyone is closed on Sunday. read more

I'm grateful this emergency vet is local to my house. We didn't have time to drive to Oradell. I brought my critical cat in at 10pm. Because she was critical they admitted her before I even signed any forms. All the staff was very attentive. IMO, this vet does the best they can with the limited resources they have. It's a small place, but if you have an extreme emergency and Oradell is too far, definitely bring your companion here. read more

I can't warn people about this place enough. It comes up a few times a month, at least. They couldn't have been more unprofessional and predatory if they had tried. Not only did they completely mistreat my baby during her crisis, but they performed a number of expensive tests with no results (literally... I have never even gotten the results of some of the tests). They gave her back to me STILL in crisis without even being able to tell me anything about her and what she had been through. She came back dirty, starving, dehydrated, and stressed beyond belief. An hour after coming home (which they insisted we do) we had to turn around and go back. Their final analysis was to have her get an oncology appointment, neurology appointment, and others. We had already spent about $5,000 in two days at this point for NOTHING. The told us to say our goodbyes, as she was obviously dying, and to let us know when we wanted to come back and they MIGHT let us be with her during it. HORRIBLE treatment. I had a weird feeling about it all and searched furiously for a PROPER vet. We found one that was Penn trained who listened intently and took us in the next morning. He took ONE look at her and her labs and knew exactly what was wrong. The medical treatment that VEG put her on was actually exacerbating the problem! He treated her then and there, put her on a course of medicine, explained everything, and was honest with holding out hope knowing it may be too late due to the damage sustained by the improper treatment. He ran ONE SIMPLE test and a few days later we had our answer. Within a week there was MASSIVE improvement. She just had her one year checkup for another test to be run (we've gone quarterly for checkups), and she's not only improved, but thriving! VEG would have had us put down our 2 1/2 year old baby instead of giving her a chance at life. The doctors are TERRIBLY unethical and unprofessional. Obviously they don't have a clue what they're doing besides normal every day stuff. I would NEVER take your furbaby here if it were the last vet on Earth. Stay away and be warned. read more

We took our precious cat there Dec. 26th. He collapsed and stopped breathing. The only hospital I knew of was in Oradell and given the situation I looked up 24 hour hospitals near me they came up . The young lady that answered the phone was very pleasant , asked me how far I was from them and that she would be sending me a link to fill out forms and to call/check in when I was there . Due to COVID they have to go get the pets themselves . When we arrived I did everything I was told and they took Jax from my daughters arms . We were able to go inside ( there was nobody there at the time ) . They asked us a couple of questions while they were working on him . We were able to see all there valiant efforts to try and help him , there was about 2 or 3 nurses taking turns doing CPR the Dr. on call was also working on him but after 10 min. They stopped , they were not able to bring him back to us . They put him in a private room and told us to take as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes . My Husband, son, daughter and myself were there for about an hour and a half . They were so caring , empathetic and concerned about us . I could not say enough Thank you's that night .. I saw with my own two eyes how hard they worked on Jax. We picked up his remains on the 31st. My family decided to take them some goodies since they would be on call all night . Just a little something to say THANK YOU . To our surprise the nurse that gave us Jax remains was the first nurse that had worked on him that horrible night. last night I brought my dying cat Belle to the Veterinary Emergency Group Clifton location. I was crying my eyes out. First, they wanted to pull her out of her carrier by force, until I stopped them and said I will take care out gently because I don't want her to suffer. Then they were trying to find her vein. Two nurses kept poking her and subjecting her to a lot of discomfort and unnecessary pain and then they gave up. then they put us in a "private room" and left us there. Bella (my cat) now in my arms dying and making noises. After a while a nurse comes in with paperwork when at the same time Belle was pronouncing her last breath. The nurse thought Bella was about to vomit but I told her that she is dying not puking. She carries her and puts her on the table and while I am in deep sorrow and grief, she makes me sign the papers to make sure they get their payments. I did, because I was in a different world at that point. A second later, Bella started kicking uncontrollably for half and a minute and immediately with her eyes open she died and was completely still: no breathing and no movement and no sound whatsoever. Finally, the doctor comes in in a hurry now, and tries to convince me that my completely still motionless cold cat with her eyes wide open is not dead and that her heart is still beating faintly. I ask for the stethoscope and try to listen to her heart beat but I hear nothing. The doctor knew I was in a state where I am not going to argue, so he runs to get her the Euthanasia injection before I could realize or be sure that she is already dead. Before I know it he injected her in the heart and as soon as he pulled the needle out he pronounced her dead. All this for $197.65. I cannot believe he treated me like a fool and took advantage of me when I am in such a state. What a shame! read more

I recently had to take my 6 month old kitten, Nemo, 3 to VEG 3 times within the last week. They have been absolutely amazing every single time. The doctors are compassionate and understanding and acknowledge the bond you have with your pet. They do the best they can with their resources and inform you of what is going on. They explain things thoroughly and give you options on what to do. I've recently found out Nemo has a congenital heart defect and they have taken care of not only him but me. I've been traumatized in the past by a previous animal hospital. I took my kitten (Salem) in and within 2 hours my kitten was gone. I knew we needed to put him down, but I asked them to bring him to me when they were trying to place a catheter and they did not listen to me. I explained to them I could calm Salem down but instead of listening to me as their parent and bringing him to me to reduce stress, they brought him back lifeless. I have been extremely paranoid since this incident, so when I realized my Nemo was not ok, I was hesitant about taking him to a hospital. But VEG allows you to be with your pet, the doctors let me hold Nemo while they performed their different tasks. I felt so comfortable and at ease while Nemo was there. The doctors explained everything to me and were compassionate and caring. I didn't feel like a burden at all while I was there and I also didn't feel like all they wanted was my money. Hopefully you never find yourself needing an ER but if you do, VEG is the best place to go. read more

If could give this place a 0 star rating I would but unfortunately it doesn't allow me. I took my dog here on Sunday because it's the only place open on Sunday because he wasn't eating. First they charged me 400 dollar for an X-ray that according to them didn't show anything, than they ask me for another 600 dollar to do a sonogram and couldn't find anything but they are quick to ask me for more money to bring in a specialist after they ask me for more money they run two test but couldn't tell me what was wrong with him. After that I took my baby home all they wanted was my money. People please be aware of places like this they don't care about the animals all they care about is how much money they can get out of you and because people like us would give anything to see our pets healthy they would take advantage of you. I have never posted a review on anything before but this one I thought I had to because what they are doing is wrong. Their so call love of animals and they couldn't take care of my baby dog.
