I took my Bengal cat Remo to the Group on December 7th, 2021 because he wasn't eating for about a day and a half and vomited clear fluid on the floor. I didn't know if he may have ingested a foreign object that was causing an obstruction in his intestines or if something else was wrong. Doctors Rothstein, Kozar and the entire staff at this location couldn't have been any better with Remo and myself. I would highly recommend VEG and especially this location to anyone having the unfortunate necessity of taking their pet for emergency vet services. I cannot say enough good things about VEG. I truly felt that every person in that building cared about my dog the way I do. We were referred here from another emergency vet for a splenectomy due to my dog's ruptured spleen. From the moment we arrived I was able to remain by my boy's side. Staff offered blankets to lay on the floor next to him and even allowed us to watch the surgery through a window. Even the next morning with a totally different staff, we were shown the same care and respect. Being able to be there for your pet any time you want really makes a difference. This place does a great job at every step along the way. I was able to speak to a vet directly on the phone in minutes, gave me some quick quotes of what a visit could possibly cost (my kitten swallowed 2 mask strings). The whole staff was so incredibly kind and stayed with me the entire time. It is a very open establishment, but it seemed like that made it easier for the staff to jump between patients without ever leaving anyone unattended. Hopefully this is the only emergency vet experience I'll need to have, but I will never forget this experience that could have been so traumatizing (and costly!!) but they worked with me the whole time and completely understood the needs of my kitten, took care to my emotions, and were realistic financially. You and your furry friend will be treated with the utmost respect, honesty, care, and sensitivity. As a frantic pet owner, I appreciate all the hard work the VEG team does. I also (unfortunately) walked in at a time where there was a major emergency going on with another pet and witnessed them treat the pet with all their might and the little guy didn't make it. I mean, I literally watched a group of doctors do CPR for a straight 20 minutes until the owner told them to stop. It was straight of a grey's anatomy scene. They were so kind to the owners and gave them their privacy and space to enjoy the last few moments with their pet. They treat you and your pet like family. I have never experienced the level of care, compassion, love and expertise from a medical staff (fur or human) like I did at Clifton VEG. Every.single.human in that building exhibited the level of dedication and kindness that I dreamed of experiencing. My little pup was in a really bad place, and honestly I was shattered, but the staff at VEG held it down, not just doing everything possible for Bear, but making sure my partner and I knew that they were there for us as well. I truly cannot express enough how incredible they all were. You walk in and are immediately greeted, they see your fur baby wherever they are comfortable. The staff talks to you like you are a parent (because you are) and they care. Besides all of that, I LOVED seeing a staff that looked like me. Tattoos and diversity, there is something to be said about a place like this. I have lots of words, but honestly not enough to express what this place is. We had a sudden emergency with our long term family dog this weekend and we brought her to VEG in Clifton. They saw us very quickly, even though I noticed there were at least 6 other families in the parking lots waiting for their pets. During this crazy COVID time, they are obviously still working extremely hard to take care of our animals. The staff was extremely kind and they worked with us, communicating what was happening every step of the way. Even though we couldn't be with our dog during the testing, we were given frequent updates and we felt at ease. We got some sad news at the end, but the way Dr Futterman spoke with us was so clear, thoughtful, and she gave us options and let us make decisions without feeling pressured one way or another. The ultimate goal was to make our dog as comfortable and happy as possible - and pain free. We brought her back the following day and saw Dr Kunisch. She was also so gentle and kind. Again, they were willing to work with us and helped us feel at ease, and they were so accommodating. The staff was also kind and everything was done efficiently. The most caring and diligent team I have ever experienced. My husky came in after having collapsed from being sick. We had taken him to the vet twice in one week and the vet couldn't figure out what was happening. He then took a quick turn for the worse and this team was on it. Although we were not ultimately able to save him (although they tried their hardest and had the whole teesince he was already basically gone when we got there, the seem showed tried their hardest and had the whole team working on him) compassion and worked with us financially. They gave us options both on how we would have like to proceed with our baby and as well on being able to pay for the bill. They were not costly as some other clinics I have experienced. I was so very impressed with the VEG in Clifton, having taken my sick cat, Duke, there in the middle of the night (last night). They responded immediately to my phone call from home as well as when we arrived there a few minutes later. Duke was in respiratory distress, gasping for air, and the vet saw Duke right away. She and all the staff was so kind, compassionate and empathetic and treated Duke as if he were their own pet. Unfortunately Duke was found to be in congestive heart failure and there was nothing that could be done to save him but VEG allowed me plenty of time to be with Duke as he took his last breaths. I really appreciated their professionalism and although I hope I don't need to visit here again, I know that these types of services exist in emergency situations. We'll see you in Heaven, Duke! Bring your wallet. My sick dog wasn't treated until they bled most of my credit cards. Even after paying a pared down treatment plan, I was still made to pay an additional $375 for additional service. Now in $1500, they suggest hospitalization and still more. Five hours we were there and we left with no real answers. My girl is still not feeling well and we're no closer to knowing why. Bloodwork supposedly came back fine. X-rays "are fuzzy due to fluids". But, if I pay the new estimate of $3700-4500, they'll keep her here and do some more stuff. I'd have the same results had I stayed home and flung baloney at my wall! Paying them more and immediately was way more important than getting my girl well, which they ultimately failed to do. read more

Had a very positive experience, so, so grateful to have this place nearby. Our dog's paws were swollen, red and inflamed, even though she is on regular allergy meds. She was at the point where it was clear that it was painful for her to walk. Our vet was closed and unavailable, my husband brought our dog in, wait time was not too bad. Vet had excellent skills, all the support staff were great too, we received spot on diagnosis, prescribed appropriate meds, and within a day our dog was walking again and doing so much better. I've been here twice. The first time was when my German Shepherd collapsed suddenly during a road trip. We were not even close but since this is in my neck of the woods I sped back here just in case he had to stay overnight. Unfortunately, it was discovered that he had cancer which he'd apparently had for some time but it had hidden well. He wouldn't make it through the day so we decided the best option was to release him from pain. OMG how this hurt my heart. My husband and my two teens were with me and we were DISTRAUGHT to say the least; my kids grew up with this dog. The staff was very professional but also incredibly kind. We were escorted into a softly lit room where they laid a blanket on the floor for my poor puppers. We were allowed to talk to him and say our goodbyes for as long as we wanted. We took maybe 30 mins...we didn't want to rush him off but I also didn't want him to suffer more. I kept apologizing for taking so long and the drs and vet techs told me not to worry. When it was time to let him go, we sat with him and watched him quickly cross the rainbow bridge. Once again, they allowed us to sit with him for as long as we wanted. We left there stunned, having left our house with a pup for a road trip, now suddenly going home without him. The cremation cost was not bad at all, and we chose an urn for him. Within several days I got a call from them gently letting me know that his urn was ready. When I arrived, it was there at the front, neatly arranged in a small elegant bag. I cried upon seeing that along with the ashes, the cremation company had included my baby's pawprint in clay, and a very nice card with condolences and letting me know what day he had been cremated on. Another nice touch: the card itself was printed on paper embedded with flower seeds. I should point out that the crematorium is a separate business and not onsite; they are not part of the Vet Emergency. Got another Shepherd several months later and after a few months he had a day or two of not eating. I hastened him over here. Had a bit of PTSD just pulling into the damn lot, remembering my last visit, but hey, I had to get him care and our vet was closed. Different staff but same level of care. We were offered 2 treatment options, one being a full workup, the other less expensive to treat the symptoms and hope it went away. I wanted the former but hubby was paying and wanted to go with Plan B. We were given time to discuss, no rush, and no pressure at all. Also no upselling, which our former vet did ALL THE TIME. When it came time to give our pup an infusion for his nausea, it took me, hubby AND a vet tech to hold him down! He is so gentle but he could not understand what the hell was going on, poor thing. Staff was excellent. They also do a good job of keeping animals separated despite there being one big treatment area. (They do have separate treatment rooms if necessary but really, it's like an ER for pets so a lot is out in the open). Thankfully my pup was back to stuffing his face by the next day. I almost wish they did more than emergency care because I have a vet but am still vet shopping. But, they are there for emergencies and truthfully, that's when you most need a good mix of professionalism, respect and kindness. So glad this place is close by. Also, I'm not sure which vets I dealt with in 2021, because I was an emotional wreck, but they were 2 very nice women. 2022 with the nauseated pup we dealt with Dr. Williams, who was excellent. read more

Both my regular vet and my back-up vet weren't available on a Sunday when my 16 year old cat Peto had an emergency and my regular vet recommended I come here. First they treated the initial emergency, which was nowhere near the disaster I had thought it was, and while they were working on him I told them what had been going on with him in general. Yes, they are very expensive (It was over $1,000 for an exam, blood work etc) and there is quite a wait but I felt 100% confident that they knew what they were doing. I had felt in my heart for a few weeks that Peto was getting ready to go but his decline was so sudden over the past couple of days, I was really worried and had planned to go to my regular vet on Monday. I was in shock when the blood work came back. I was torn between a very expensive hospitalization versus his realistic chance of any quality time left. They were very upfront with me about his chances of recovery (zero) and explained what the hospitalization would entail as well as monthly care going forward but guestimated that even with all that, Peto was looking at a few weeks to a year and they couldn't guarantee anything. I had gone through something similar with one of my other pets and had opted for anything and everything to be done and looking back, I could see that my pet was miserable through it all and still had to be put to sleep so I made the decision to put Peto to sleep. Been there twice this week and both visits were positive. The staff from the front desk right up to the DVMs are extraordinarily interested in doing everything they can to help YOUR pet. My seventeen-year-old calico currently has a UTI and is presenting with kidney disease (not kidney failure) and anemia which is common in elderly cats. We want her as comfortable as possible for the rest of her life, and that will mean providing her fluids intravenously. The technicians taught to provide the fluids at home. Clarice had her first treatment last night, and she's back to normal (well seventeen-year-old kitty normal) and we are all so happy. I can not say enough positive things about VEG! read more

Last night our dog vomited out of no where, because very lethargic and wobbly, and semi-unresponsive. We called the Veterinary Emergency Group around 4am and ubered there from Hoboken. When we arrived they took us right to see a doctor BEFORE shoving paperwork in our faces and making it about $$ instead of caring for our dog. Dr. Smallwood and the AMAZING vet techs were thorough, gentle, and so sweet to both us and our poor frenchie. They allowed us to stay in the back with the dog the entire time while they brought her temp and heart rate up to speed. We ended up having to plan for her to stay at the facility for 12 hours of observation, fluids, etc. The doctor kept us uninformed of every type of treatment plan option and broke down the costs after treating our baby. We left the facility around 7am and by 10:30am they had called us that our dog was doing much better and could home. From the very first phone call to us bringing her home the entire staff was so supportive, nurturing, attentive, and knowledgeable. Because we were there for a few hours we saw them caring for other animals in the same loving way they cared for our dog. The facility itself is immaculate too! Super clean, spacious, and state of the art equipment! I could not be any happier with the staff and facility. If I could give them 10 stars I would. I hope I don't have to pay them another visit but, if I do I'll know they will take the best care of our dog possible. read more

What can I say! Top care and service provided on all levels at VEG Animal Hospital. My dog was throwing up and they just started the process immediately, getting to know her sitting on the floor with her, and providing the best care. Our dog needed to stay overnight because of her test results, which honestly came pretty quick. All staff members, including doctors, vet techs and reception staff were 10+. Almost 2 weeks ago, my father and I brought our 11 years old cockapoo, Destiny, to this establishment. She was on and off sick for a month. The last three days she was not in good shape. We brought her in August 6th at 12pm. The vet and staff immediately started to work on her. It was discovered that she had spleen cancer and fluids were in her abdomen. We were told that she may not live through surgery and afterwards. It was a tough decision to make. We decided it would be best to put her to sleep. I would like to thank the staff for trying to save Destiny. The staff was very empathetic and compassionate throughout the ordeal. A few staff members had tears in their eyes. This is definitely my go-to emergency vet clinic. I had an emergency with my cat, Charlie a year ago and brought him here. They took him in right away. The vet told us the prognosis, which didn't look good but we would do anything to at least try to save our baby so we told them to do everything they could. Unfortunately they called at 11PM(we brought him there around 3PM) later that night and he got worse and they recommended we release him from his suffering. This was back in March of 2021 at the height of Covid and the amazing staff was nice enough to let me and my grandmother both inside to say goodbye even with their covid regulations. The staff there that night made this painful experience as best as they could for us. They let us spend a few minutes with him alone to say goodbye. The staff told us how wonderful and handsome he was and they also let us stay with him until he passed. They worked on him for hours and did all they could. I wanted to thank the staff who was there that night for being so compassionate. We chose to have him cremated and they handled everything. The company even gave us a mold of his paw print and a beautiful card as well. If you have an emergency and need top notch doctors with staff who actually care, then this is the best place to take them. read more

Of I could give zero stars I would. I called her with an emergency as my regular vet was unable to accommodate. I was told come in, call when in parking lot as if I would be accommodated on site. Arrived 15 minutes later, was lifted on hold for 20 minutes and was then told wait time is 1.5 hours minimum. What the hell!!! If your pet has an emergency shouldn't the accommodation be faster, if not wouldn't you advise of the wait time. read more

I recently brought my dog in because she broke her leg, and I was very upset with how the vet tech/nurse handled the situation. I understand with Covid protocols, I'm not allowed to enter the building, but that means they should take care of my dog the second she leaves my arms. I explained to the girl to be careful taking her, that her paw is broken. It was obvious, considering it was hanging there. So the girl took her and I explained, whatever you do, do not put her on the ground because she will run. The girl comprehended every word I said, yes me to death and proceeded to take my dog and put her on the floor. At this point my dog is running to the exit, 3 paws on the floor and one holding up. She's scratching the door and crying. The vet tech is running around the entry way trying to grab her. Once she got the leash around her neck, THE VET TECH STARTED TO DRAG HER THROUGH THE DOOR. MY DOGS PAW IS HANGING IN THE AIR AND YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS WAS TO DRAG HER INTO THE BUILDING? Very unprofessional. I'm not a vet tech but I would've handled that situation a little better than that. My dog only weighs 12 lbs and was having an anxiety attack because a stranger was taking her. I only give this place two stars because the actual Vet was super nice when she called us, so she deserves a star. For the vet tech/nurses, I would advice a lesson on how to handle EMERGENCY SITUATIONS better. read more

I was there with my dog Snooki who had pneumonia from kennel cough and everyone there who took care of my dog was outstanding. I can't say enough about them. I was there for 20 hrs and the whole time they were professional and courteous to our needs. I was also there about a month ago with my dog Thatcher who unfortunately passes away and the staff was outstanding then too. They did all they could in both cases. I have been to other emergency hospitals and none of them compare to this place. Hopefully I don't need to go again lol but if I ever do I will know my dogs will have the best care!!!! This has been the most useless visit ever. Dr. Chen is the most inaccurate doctor I have ever experienced. Given a full rundown of my dogs discomforts she ran tests and still had no explanation or solution why my dog is crying in distress. They gave me a quote over the phone to later charge me more than what they said. Charged me for a medicine that the Dr claims won't fix the problem.. and tells me to follow up with another Dr. Then claims all I paid for was her advice after spending $1000 on the visit. My dog was there from 11am - 6pm to come out sedated and in worst condition than arrival. Biggest scam ever, and worst customer service from the Dr. We will never return or recommend anyone to this useless place. read more

I feel absolutely disgusted knowing this is the place I decided to have my dog euthanized at. I chose this the veterinary emergency group in Clifton because it was cheap but it's cheap for a reason, as soon as I was brought in to sit with my dog while he was put down, I was greeted by two women doing surgery on a dog, dancing and literally taking selfies with blood on their gloves and an opened dog on the table.... I felt sick seeing their lack of empathy or hygiene. The euthanization process was extremely stressful due to the constant echoing ringing phone, loud music, and laughter of the staff with no privacy in the euthanization room. To top it off, almost none of the staff was wearing masks during the 3 hours I was there. I do not at all recommend this place to get an animal euthanized or have surgery preformed on. read more

I was so excited to see a 24-hour emergency animal hospital open in my area. Unfortunately my friend needed their services last night and it was a complete nightmare. She arrived at VEG and told them that her 14 year old dog had been attacked and bitten by another dog. She was told to wait outside. An hour and a half later, after sitting on the curb with her bleeding dog in her arms, she asked when she would be seen. She was told that it could be another 3 - 5 hours and this was at 10:00PM on a Tuesday night! By this time, both she and her dog were exhausted so they left without ever being seen by anyone. Clearly this place does not know how to triage or prioritize multiple emergencies. I am sorry that my friend had to experience this but at least now we know where not to go. read more

Be careful who you trust with your pet. I came here a few times, the first time was fine. But the recent experience had was terrible. There are some vets that work here that are experienced, kind, and seem to do good work. I was unfortunately paired up with a vet that was training. I was not told she was training, I told this vet had experience in the particular surgery my pet needed which is why I allowed the procedure to take place. Come to find out she was unprepared, seemed nervous, and was not giving the nurses the proper instruction during the surgery. The first off-putting thing that happened was my pets heartrate spiking after she yelped from the pain of the incision. The doctor explained that she wasn't properly sedated, and responded by giving my small pet 2 more doses of sedative a total of 3 doses. Which I later found out from a different doctor 3 doses is absolutely not good. Something I wish I knew I felt like the people involved in the surgery did not have my pets best interest at heart. The assistants were literally drinking coffee and speaking amongst themselves while hovering over my pet during this surgery. Not only that but the assistant who was controlling a critical part of the surgery was complaining about not getting any sleep the night prior. You can only imagine the amount of anguish that came over me. My best friend in the hands of people that did not care, and in the moment I felt it was too late to do anything about it the surgery had already started. The experience felt like a nightmare everything just kept getting worse. The vet needed to have an experienced vet come in to give her " guidance" during the procedure. I began to pray for peace when I noticed the doctor performing the surgery nervously laughing and looking to her sides, looking everywhere other then my pet while equipment was in my pet! The experienced vet gave her instruction. Eventually the experienced doctor looked past frustrated and took over the surgery. After the surgery I was left with my pet who was very much so sedated, I was told to wait until she woke up. As my pet started to wake up I asked one of the assistants if they were going to check my pet, The assistant didn't seem to understand what I meant, I proceeded to explain that my pet just had surgery and I wanted someone to check her. The assistant asked what I wanted checked, I was at a loss for words considering I'm not a vet idk what needs to be checked. I responded by saying her heart rate. She checked her heart rate and said it was good. I waited another 20 minutes. Someone finally came and checked my pets temperature. My pet was cold. They brought my pet a heating pad and explained I would have to wait a little longer for my pets temperature to rise and said they would come back to check it again. They didn't come back. The doctor came around and explained that I was good to go and my pet was fine. My pet was not examined after the surgery. My pets condition worsened immediately after the surgery. So wrapping up, I'm not saying this place is all bad because it's not I have had good experiences on other days in this place but the doctors that I worked with that day caused so much sadness in my heart. That experience that day caused so much sadness. I feel like if I had worked with other vets, even at this same hospital my pet would have had more comfort in her final moments, or maybe even prolonged my pets life for a while. I hope what happened to me and my pet NEVER happens to anyone because no pet deserves that My pet is the sweetest she deserved more care and attention. read more

Dr. Caroline Kozar and her whole staff are absolutely amazing. Sadly today we had to leave the vet without our beloved buddy but I can't even begin to explain how easy the experience was. In the past we normally go to a vet that has made the experience of losing a loved one very difficult but at this place it was so comfortable and catered to us and our experience. We called in telling her that our dog wasn't acting right and he had been suffering from liver disease for a while. When we got there and called them they actually brought out a stretcher for buddy because he couldn't walk anymore, in the past at a different place we never got that kind of treatment. When bringing buddy in they did everything so quickly and checked his vitals, iv and told us possibly what May had been wrong. When we came to the conclusion that buddy was at his end they brought him into a private room with my whole family and I and gave us time to say goodbye and be with him as we watched him pass away. Dr Bria and staff were amazing today when I brought in a feral kitten that had sadly been very injured. We humanely decided that euthanasia was the kindest option, and the staff showed such patience, professionalism, and compassion as I was devastated making that decision for such a little creature. Despite the busy atmosphere, the staff, especially Dr Bria, made me feel like my little kitten was the only thing that mattered for the little time that was spent with us. After reading other reviews I wanted to relate our positive experience. First, it's great to have someplace to go while vets are unable to take any last minute walk ins and the wait time is at least a week which can't work for an animal in pain. My dog was in back pain so I brought him in. We waited an hour before they allowed us to leave our dog with them because they were behind with emergencies and it would be another 2-3 hrs before he'd be seen. I was happy to have the opportunity to let him stay while we left (although I felt terrible leaving him). 2-3 hrs later the vet called with her diagnosis and while I was worried they would want to run expensive tests she did not feel it was necessary at this time. They provided medication and instructions on how to care for him and the price was reasonable for emergency care and piece of mind. If they were interested in making money they could have told me ex-rays were necessary. From my experience they were caring and reasonable and I'm thrilled to know they're there if needed in the future. Especially during a pandemic when getting the normal care we're accustomed to is not available. I want VEG to know we are grateful for the care our Max received. read more

We just had an amazing experience here. Our cat is quite restless and has a lot of energy. They did amazing with him, got on the floor if necessary to make him more comfortable. They allowed us in and to stay with our kitty. Their is a wait based off of the urgency and emergency situation, but we did not mind. The staff was amazing. The nurses and vet answered all our questions and let us participate in care. Highly recommend read more

The staff are all amazing!!! From the front desk (Ashley), to the vet techs, and doctors... they are very courteous and friendly. They acted at once to the dog that was having a seizure and Ashley made sure to update everyone that were waiting. They even served us food and snacks while we waited. The best ED by far! read more

0 stars from this place. My 4 yr old dog was taken there for a severe head tilt and mobility issues. This ER center misdiagnosed my dog with a "tooth issue" and "bladder infection" when he truly had a vestibular disease and needed steroids to treat this. While we searched statewide for better care, we temporarily treated him with Gabapentin which is a oral pain killer provided by Clifton Vet Emergency Group. This group of "professionals" provided this medicine without proper instructions. They mentioned NOTHING about this medication needing to be refrigerated, which has had an impact on its effectiveness resulting in my dog being in excruciating pain due to their lack of knowledge of how to properly store these drugs. I come to you stating my experience to better help your care for your animals and I wish you nothing but the best coming from other establishments. read more

This emergency vet is above all others. They took care of my baby after he got a muscle sprain and hurt his leg. In the middle of a pandemic, they took him in right away. Checked him out and immediately updated me. The staff is amazing. The doctors are the best I've seen. They truly love animals. It's very clear. My boy is epileptic and his dr, dr Levitin sometimes works there as well. He is amazing. Thank you al so much for taking such good care of my Teddy. He means the world to us and the care you give him is above and beyond the rest. Thank you all for what you do. You make such a difference. read more
