Comfortable space to wait with your dog
    Danica L.

As a panicked dog mom who needed emergency services ASAP, I am so glad I went to VEG. Their specialty is not only providing emergency services, but having you as an owner be involved with your pet during an unsettling emergency. You don't see your pet disappear into the back rooms, but instead, you are allowed to be with your pet through all steps of the process - reducing anxiety for both you and your animal. I wish more vets operated like this! My dog came in after ingesting something she shouldn't have and we received medical attention right away. The nurses induced vomiting quickly, right in the waiting room, and I was glad they handled it fast. They are 100% transparent about all costs and always provide you with an estimate before doing anything to your pet. I appreciate all the staff here who helped take care of Nami and get her back to help. We appreciate you!!!

Our dog was diagnosed with urethral stones on Friday, but he had been suffering since the Saturday before. We initially thought it was a simple bladder infection and started antibiotics, but when that didn't work, we went back to the vet and discovered it was much more serious. They attempted to place a catheter, but it was unsuccessful, and we were referred out for surgery. I started calling everywhere, trying to find help. The quotes we received ranged anywhere from $8,600 to $15,000, which was overwhelming and honestly heartbreaking. After leaving the SPCA (where the front desk -- not the veterinarian -- suggested another option), we were told to go to VEG ER for Pets. From the moment we arrived, Tracy, Simon, Dr Lena, and the staff made the experience completely different. We were met with nothing but empathy, support, and clear communication. The staff, technicians, and doctors took the time to thoroughly explain everything -- our options, the risks, and what to expect. There was no pressure, just genuine care and transparency. As I write this, my baby is receiving the treatment he needs -- at a cost we can actually afford. I truly can't thank the team enough. And a special thank you to Arianna at the SPCA for pointing us in the right direction -- because of that recommendation, our dog made it through the weekend. If you're ever in a situation like this, this is the place you want on your side.

"Compassion like this is rare." I want to share my experience with the emergency veterinary team in Palo Alto because they helped me through one of the scariest moments of my life with my emotional support animal, and I will never forget their kindness. My dog was showing signs of poisoning, and I rushed in absolutely terrified. From the moment we walked through the door, the entire staff treated us with a level of compassion, gentleness, and calm I've never experienced at any veterinary clinic -- emergency or otherwise. They didn't just care for my dog; they cared for me too. They understood that she is my ESA and that her health is directly tied to my own safety and wellbeing. They spoke softly, explained every step, and kept both of us grounded through something overwhelming. They moved quickly but never made me feel rushed. They were professional but incredibly warm. And they treated my dog like she was the most important patient in the world. The doctors were thorough, thoughtful, and reassuring. The techs were loving, attentive, and patient. Every person in the building seemed to operate with the same incredible blend of skill and kindness. I've been to many vets over the years, and I have never experienced a place with this much heart. They don't just treat animals -- they support families, especially those of us who rely on our animals for emotional stability and medical needs. My dog left feeling safe and cared for, and so did I. To everyone at the Palo Alto emergency vet group: thank you for saving my dog and for treating both of us with such dignity. You are truly exceptional.

Lucy, the lady that runs Whis-Purr Rescue referred me to this place because Mango's potential adopter is in Palo Alto. Mango has been through a lot. He was abandoned by the freeway in South San Jose, trapped and fixed, and went to 2 homes before he came to me. It was because I did not want him to be released back. I took him in to learn about him before I feel I know him enough to start posting about him. I have 4 cats and 1 kitten, so I knew I could not adopt him but I was hoping his forever home is out there. Last Sunday he spent the night at this potential adopter's place but was returned to me Monday night. The transporting and stress caused him to get sick. He was lethargic and was sneezing. He seemed to have lost his appetite, too. I was at work and offered to take him right then and there because if it's anything concerning, I'd rather get it addressed immediately so he can be on the mend instead of waiting. I was prepared to be responsible for the vet bill because I took him in and the potential adopters did not adopt him yet. It is not right to have them be responsible. Not only that, I care and love this guy so much that covering this was something I did not think twice about doing. The open space was clean and nearly immaculate. If you want water, coffee, tea, chips, or cookies... they have it! We were brought into their waiting/examining room. We were seen rather quickly but the process to get his antibiotics was long. It took nearly an hour for it. I had to come out to ask for status 2-3x because I still had to drop them off and drive back to San Jose to pickup Gavin from school. I ended up being extremely late for Gavin but thankfully my daughter was able to help me yesterday. I did not get back home till nearly 4:15PM (he gets out at 3:25PM). Staff were very patient. They were very gentle and kind to Mango. They open 24/7. Parking is plentiful. A big shoutout and love for Whis-Purr Rescue (Lucy) for sponsoring the bill. Mango is not their rescue cat but they're helping me because they care about Mango, too. I am so lucky to have found Whis-Purr because I fostered Barley and Ian whom were just adopted this past Sunday and for Lucy for recommending this place because they are fast and the place is clean. The wait is long for me only because I am a single parent running from one thing to another. Thank you for the antibiotics! Mango is eating and is up and about a bit now!

Very thankful to Dr. Mangat and his staff!!

From the moment Dr. Ang first met with us, he exhibited wonderful listening skills. He valued my comments and made me feel heard. It was a dangerous urgent situation, and he gave it the prompt attention it deserved. My cat had to be hospitalized, and I could not have had a better vet to help me through those difficult days. Dr. Ang was so unbelievably kind and helpful to both myself and my cat. I've had pets my entire life, and I've never been more impressed by a vet. I was very worried about my cat, and Dr. Ang kept me updated and generously answered every question I had. It has taken months for me to write this review, because my cat had to be put down about 10 days after this emergency situation. However, thanks to Dr. Ang's help and advice, my cat got to spend over a week with me at home, before he developed another medical issue that again threatened his life. My cat was put down at almost 18 years of age, with the assistance of Dr. Ang. He made a terrible situation much better than it otherwise would have been for us. This my most difficult time with a pet, and I'm so blessed to have had Dr. Ang through the journey. I can't possibly thank him enough for how much he went above and beyond for my cat, and for me. Dr. Ang is a wonderful person, and anyone is lucky to have him care for their pet. I am also happy with MedVet Mountain View. I've brought my cat there many times, and the fact that I drove from Santa Clara to Mountain View many times specifically to go to this office is evidence of how comfortable I felt bringing my pet there--rather than vets' offices much closer to me geographically. I am happy with the staff and experiences overall at MedVet Mountain View. But, Dr. Zachary Ang is a vet that restored my faith in humanity, and he deserves particular credit for going far beyond the call of duty for myself and my beloved cat.

Last Saturday Riley needed emergency vet care. We initially took him to the ER associated with his internal medicine specialist ( who is on leave for two months) but we were told since he was stable our wait would be " hours and hours". I took a chance and called Universal. They said yes, bring him right in. Dr Singh examined him, ran tests all in office and within the hour diagnosed him with pancreatitis and started his treatment Dr Singh was incredibly knowledgeable and explained things to us about our dog's medical conditions more thoroughly than his internal medicine specialist has done. Riley is often fearful at the vet's office but he was treated kindly by the entire friendly staff and was relaxed and unafraid the whole time. My husband and I are both truly impressed with everything about this veterinarian's office. The kindness and consideration with which we and Riley were treated was amazing. Trying to get tests and health certificates for our international move was an absolute disaster that cost me time, thousands of dollars in delays, and incredible stress. The staff seemed completely clueless about the complex destination country requirements. I worked primarily with a vet tech, as the USDA approved doctor only works on weekends and no one seemed to have handled an international certificate before. They constantly mixed up the necessary birth dates and microchip, missed crucial paperwork deadlines, and gave me conflicting information. It felt like I was managing their process, not the other way around. These monumental error meant that we risked missing our flight and having my cats quarantined unnecessarily. The lack of attention to detail and general disorganization was baffling for a professional clinic. I was forced to scramble and find another clinic at the last minute to fix Midtown's mistakes. I hate to write a bad review, but I also feel compelled to warn others so that they don't have the…read moresame experience that we did. I will not share the entire saga, but here is what I will say: - I do not know if SAGE's clinical choices were sound, as I am not a vet. What I do know is that they were not successful, and resulted in the death of a relatively young (6 year old) cat who did not appear to be *that sick*. - The care that was provided - which took place over the course of less than 12 hours and did not involve any surgery resulted in bills exceeding $7,000. - After the traumatic experience, SAGE was focused purely on payment, and not at all on condolences. They immediately charged the credit card on file and sent multiple emails with invoices (which were unclear and in some cases contradictory). When I arrived to pick up the cat's ashes the person at the front desk looked at the computer and said "you have an outstanding balance of $400; would you like to pay that now?" She did not say "I'm sorry for your loss" and instead just straight to asking for more money. When I pushed back she said "that's our protocol." Yes, clearly it is. - They made many administrative errors throughout the process, which I will not go into because for those they have apologized, but there were so many that I felt embarassed for them. But I've now contacted them multiple times with one simple request: please send me one invoice that is complete and accurate. My requests have gone unanswered. Perhaps because they have already received payment, they are no longer concerned with me, but it's actually pretty outlandish. They charged over $7,000 (I think - it's actually hard to tell because again, the charges and invoices are not clear or complete) and can't be bothered with giving me a clear answer. I am truly not sure how any business can get away with operating this way, but apparently SAGE can. I'm sure they do some good work. I'm sure there are many good people who work there and care a lot about animals. But based on our experience, it feels like incompetent adminstration at best and a scam at worst. I know that when your pet needs emergency care you may not have a lot of options, but if you do, I suggest that you try to go elsewhere.

Dr. Beard and her vet techs took excellent care of my boy. He apparently was having an asthma flare-up. They gave him a sedative shot, since he was being a bit spicy. Later, when Dr. Smith called, she was referencing the wrong side of my cat's face, which made it clear something had been miscommunicated. That said, Dr. Smith was very kind and respectful throughout. I appreciated how she spoke to my concerns and didn't dismiss my anxiety. She reminded me to be patient with my cat's adjustment to our recent move across the state, which helped ease my worry. At one point, she offered bloodwork as an option, and I agreed to it. She said it would be "a couple hundred dollars," and I assumed it would be under $300. It ended up being $500. Thankfully I have insurance and I agreed to it, but I do think clearer estimates would be helpful. Overall, I would come back here. I feel lucky to have a VCA so close by, and it's reassuring that there's also an emergency clinic across the street (not affiliated with VCA). She took the time to carefully evaluate Bentley and explain everything to us in a way that felt thoughtful and reassuring. The whole visit felt seamless and easy, which is not something you typically expect from an emergency vet. My husband and I were completely exhausted, and they made us feel just as taken care of as Bentley. The office itself was incredibly clean and aesthetically pleasing, with a comfortable waiting area, cozy chairs, and even a great selection of snacks and drinks, such nice touch that most vets dont have. On top of everything, the pricing was very reasonable. We're so grateful for the care Bentley received and would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing emergency veterinary care.

First and foremost, I'd like to extend an immense amount of gratitude to Dr. Hart, Dr. Carlson, and…read moreKara. Thank you for caring for my baby during her last hours, and for the extraordinary amount of empathy you have shown me during one of the hardest moments of my life. My rating is solely reflective of the other staff members I interacted with at Lenity. Unfortunately, my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. I have raised all of these concerns with management, and I'm confident they will (or may have already) taken the appropriate steps to address these issues, including providing additional training on professionalism, effective communication, and appropriately navigating difficult situations. I rushed my cat Honey to Lenity as soon as I saw she wasn't being herself. I filled out paperwork and was greeted by Dr. Carlson after a somewhat reasonable wait time. After assessing Honey's current state, it was determined she had to be hospitalized overnight, and her health declined rapidly. Dr. Carlson and Dr. Hart were incredibly kind and guided me through one of the most painful decisions I will ever have to make. The rest of my review is for several staff members I interacted with at Lenity. Throughout multiple touchpoints, I felt a concerning lack of empathy, and felt as though the clinic only cared about being paid. My multi-thousand dollar bill was being broadcasted to the entire staff and waiting room as I went to visit my cat after being hospitalized overnight. The woman with glasses at the front desk spoke loudly and announced to everyone, including staff and folks in the waiting room, something along the lines of "Honey's owner is here to visit and paid her invoice- we can let her in now," and also announced that I paid through CareCredit. The way this was handled was incredibly inappropriate and humiliating- no worried pet owner should ever feel as though they are only permitted to visit their baby after handing over thousands of dollars. I also want to mention this was my 3rd invoice, totaling over $12,000 within a matter of 24 hours, so I naturally had questions regarding what exactly I was being charged for and if there was any wiggle room with all of the charges. The same woman repeated "wiggle room" in the most condescending tone when I asked- further demonstrating the blatant lack of empathy and basic customer service I'd expect to receive anywhere, especially in healthcare. Please stop reading this if euthanasia is a sensitive topic. I ultimately made the decision to put my cat down, due to her rapidly declining physical state, and out of immense love. She was not herself in her final moments since she was in a lot of pain, and inadvertently bit me as I held her. We let Dr. Carlson and staff know about the bite, and Dr. Carlson gave me instructions on how to clean the wound. Before I left the clinic, one of the front desk members talked to us about the bite. They then proceeded to share graphic, inhumane, and traumatic details regarding what would happen to my cat's body if I showed any symptoms of rabies. I later found out this was incorrect information, and they would still have to proceed with this process, regardless of whether I showed symptoms of rabies or not. While I understand the county's mandatory testing protocol, these graphic details should have NEVER been shared with me as I am deeply mourning the sudden loss of my world, and I am appalled by the insensitivity of how this was handled. The details that were shared with me will continue to haunt me, and countless hours of emotional distress could have been prevented. As mentioned above, each of the incidents outlined in this review has been brought to the attention of the office manager, Kara, who has handled every concern with professionalism, compassion, and grace. That said, I believe it would be a disservice to both current and future patients not to share my experience. My hope is that Lenity takes this feedback as an opportunity for reflection, improvement, and adequate staff training.
