They don't respect your time. They scheduled a 4:30 showing for a unit and there were a few of us waiting to see it. Waited 15 mins, no one's there yet. Called the office number and told them about the situation and she said the person on the way is caught in traffic. Another 15 mins passed, still no one. It may seem like a minor problem but it just feels disrespectful. 30-45 mins of your time just wasted. These are the type of people you would be dealing with, if you choose to work with them. I would not recommend renting from this company under any circumstance. If you already have, make sure that you document everything related to your move out- they lied about damages (but I had taken photos and a video) and claimed that I turned in my key almost a week late (I dropped it off and handed it to them, so certified mail is probably the best option). I had to send weekly emails for two months before I got my deposit back. They did not perform any repairs while I was renting a very expensive unit, and would get annoyed if I tried to ask for any type of repair and would tell me how busy they were. There were lights out in the hallways, no lights on the stairs , ceiling leaks, and issues with appliances. I know we don't have a lot of options on the peninsula, but you will be better off with any other company. read more

This review is from when I lived at a Vega property in Marina from June 2015-June 2016. The experience was unpleasant start to finish. The on site manager and higher up manager where I would drop off rent were both unpleasant. It was a constant battle dealing with these people. Everything in the unit was run down and super outdated (there was even carpet in the bathroom which was disgusting). Things would break and it took a long time to hear back from anyone about anything. When we finally got someone out to look at the dishwasher, which was not functioning, we were told that we just have to pre-wash and maybe try a different type of dishwashing detergent. Not helpful at all when the super old dishwasher was completely broken. When we moved out we had the carpets professionally cleaned, as they had told us to. We happened to stop by the next day and saw them ripping up all the carpets to replace them. They also raised the rent every six months. I'm not sure if this is even legal, but the constant rent raises were frustrating for us and really hard for the older tenants on fixed income who had seen rent go up hundreds of dollars over just a few years. read more

If you value your time, peace of mind and being treated with basic decency, stay away from Vega Investments at all cost. I unfortunately had to deal with them for a short term rental while working in Monterey. The office is sketchy with very old decorations, they make you come in and sign everything in person including making in person payments. They do not accept any forms of electronic payments because they have not bothered to invest any money into the business at all. Even the receipts are hand written and be sure to ask for them because they will not offer. They did not admit to not having experience with short term rentals but I found that out after they forced me to sign 30 pages of a lease agreement and photos of the rental (I assume to have proof of how the property was given to me?). Mind you, this was for a rental period of 6 WEEKS ONLY. I have never had to jump this many hoops and have rented places for a lot longer. Admittedly, I should have pushed back against this ridiculousness but the ONLY employee I dealt with was an unfriendly, overworked secretary who had a hard time answering basic questions about their policies and procedures. Again, make sure you ask for copies of all your signed documents because they will not offer. Because I HAD to pay with bank checks and my rental was 6 weeks, I chose to make only 2 payments, the initial one (including a $200 cleaning fee for a place that was newly renovated and only about 400 sq ft) and one more. When I called to ask the amount of the second check (it was prorated because of my dates), I was told they could not give me an exact amount and to just make the extra payment. I had to argue and explain that bank checks were not the easy form of payment, again dealing with the same secretary. She finally caved after asking me like 4 times what date I was moving out and stressing if I did not leave then I would owe money as if I was a criminal. The icing on the cake was when I left. Since I was initially overcharged for cleaning ($200 cleans a house and this was a studio), upon leaving I stripped the bed and took out the trash only. Again, being there 6 weeks only, the place was not messy at all. I left a few items in the mini freezer thinking someone could use them. Possibly, some unopened snacks such as chips too in the 100 ft kitchenette. Also, I had an early flight and left the keys secured in the mailbox instead of at Vega's dropbox. I let the owner know about the keys and since the rental and office were 5 minutes away, I hoped it would not be a big deal. Long story short, I was charged ANOTHER $200 for the less than 10 items I left behind and the secretary chastised me for leaving the keys staying the owner had to go out of her way to return them to their office. Also, she informed me I would be charged for a mini pillow that was stained and she was dead serious. It took 6 weeks to get back my security deposit when the law dictates it should be 21 days. This was after multiple phone calls and emails and still I never spoke with a manager. Even after confirming my address, they still mailed it to the wrong place due to either complete incompetence or to spite me. I was going to fight it but I can't imagine dealing with this company again. I believe every single one of those other negative reviews because of what I went through. Stay away unless you like being aggravated and overcharged. See the photos attached for my itemized security deposit deductions. Let's start about a month ago when I tried to contact them for a client and they took down my email and said they would send me an application NEVER received and application. I then go on to call today and the had me on hold for 15 minutes just to slam the phone and hang up in my face so I call back and they try to put me on hold again. Leasing office - rude, not respect to customer, do not pickup phone after you filled application (though, they answer if you call from different number). Story: We filled one application within filing fee and got rejected. Ok we filled second application within cosigner (solid case: score + income) and I realized, they just collect fee and not going to review applications for next 2 weeks (despite the fact previous app was rejected quickly). I indicated in application move in date (in first application it was the same), and according to landlord, they won't review it before movie date. So, I politely claimed to withdrawal application, and do not consider me as applicant as well as not to cash out filling fee.... Representative from leasing office become mad and demonstrated her "customer obsession". I never encountered in US such behaviour toward customer. For whatever reason landlord considered my personal information (PII) as company possession, giving me no way to withdrawal application. If I could subtract stars or give a 0.25 star, I would. For as much communication as there was (for weeks), there seemed to be none. My boyfriend and I had been in person, had SEVERAL phone calls, SEVERAL emails with two of their employees and the outcome was terrible! We had scheduled a showing in person, and so did another person. My boyfriend drove 3 hours to see the place, he found out on the spot that they had given the apartment to someone else. When weeks had been going by with "we really like what we see, you guys were the first applicant and have top priority" (though she claims she never said that over the phone even though she recalls that same conversation of when we scheduled the showing). All we got from the same receptionist "my supervisor is out... she's still out.... She's out".... When I had been in contact with one of her supervisor's the entire time. (Same lady who had messed up on our showing and really "dropped the ball" with housing). She claimed that her supervisor had been "holding onto our application to find the best fit for us"- total BS!!!! Thought we would give them a chance- HUGE mistake!! Not sure how they have operated for so long ripping renters off on their deposit and their garbage customer service. I lived in tiny 1BR aptmt near DLI for less than 90 days. 1. Property pics on website are not the as-is pics. It has been enhanced. 2. Got Stood up for multiple move-in inspection. None was conducted. Perhaps to pin you for charges upon move out. 3. Lot of issues upon in, Stains in carpet, broken appliances, massive water damage under both sinks, hole in door. 4. Stood up for move out inspection. Same as move-in reasons 5. Been 26 days since turning in keys; still waiting on deposit check. Called multiple times amd requested status of deposit, "its in amil; should get it any day". Is it 21 working days or 21 days the law in CA for return deposit? Regardless its past due. 6. They are still in stone ages requiring renters to physically drop off rent check at their office. Zero online payment option. Avoid renting from them at all cost. If you must rent from them push for move-in/out inspection. Also save all reciepts if hired professional cleaners. I lived in their David Ave Location for 7 months. They don't interact with you a whole lot besides paying rent, so that and the cheap apartment are pros, but the office is horrible in actually getting things done. They're really nice when talking to them, but they don't actually help or fix things if you need them too. They gave us two keys for the apartment, but only one worked. When I brought it up, they said they had handed over two keys, it wasn't their fault one didn't work, and that if we wanted more we had to make copies at our own expense. For "inspections," they tape a paper to your door about a week in advance that they "may" inspect that apartment. I realize this specifically is more of a personal peeve, but my wife (who worked from home) disliked how they didn't specify a time, and never even showed up to conduct an inspection. You don't have to be present for it, but she would move things around to be prepared for it and it never happened. There were no numbers on the stove dial so we never actually knew how hot we were cooking something. We brought it up with Vega's and they said they'd look into it, but nothing ever happened. The most disrespecting moment was when our water was spontaneously shut off at night. I called all three numbers given to tenant for maintenance emergencies but not one was answered. I got a text some time later that there was emergency work that needed to be done. I'm not mad about the emergency work and completely understand, but they didn't make any effort to notify us or other tenants that had their water shut off and only replied with a text in passing saying it should be done by morning. Finally, when receiving our deposit check after moving out, they had deducted $300 for repainting and $75 for re caulking the tub. For painting, they claimed that we had put splotches of paint on the walls, there were splotches, but they were there when we moved in. We contested and they agreed to refund that amount but it has been several months now and they have not sent the money. We have called at least 5 times to check on it but they never answered and have never called back. For the recaulking, Vega's claimed they do it every time a tenant moves out but we were never told that before we leased. I suspect they just made up something to justify it. I personally think they just pass on the cost to whatever tenant moves out when it's bad because you don't need to recaulk after 7 months. If it is a legitimate expense, they need to make that clear before hand. In short, this real estate office is a honey trap of sweet words and empty promises to get you to sign a lease and does not care about you. EDIT: Another issue I had was when they charged us for the clogged sink that we moved into. We got the keys on Saturday and didn't send someone out to fix it until halfway through the week. Then they later charged us the $130 to fix it. They apologized and said it should have been sent to the previous tenant. I would be happy to pass off everything listed above as simple mistakes or inconveniences, but everything together just shows incompetence and poor professionalism. read more

Avoid renting from any property Vega manages. The worst rental company I have ever leased from. They will not answer any emails or calls. You have to physically go into the office to get any response and when you do the staff are completely unprofessional and rude. They will do anything to try to hold onto the security deposit at time of move out. We did not receive our security deposit until more than 21 days after we moved and the only reason they mailed it was because we emailed and called several times and finally went in person. They then double charged us for a maintenance fee to hang curtains that they requested were dry cleaned so we left them in the bag for dry cleaning. They never returned the rest of our deposit. On the day I was moving out they were sending people to view the apartment without ever informing me so as I am moving boxed people were showing up for tours. They also forgot about the scheduled final walk through and only showed up 1 hour later after I called several times. They also did not even have our original lease on file when we announced we were moving out and when I followed up about the move out date they tried to say we didn't give 30 days although we had emailed and spoken with them in person regarding it. read more

If I could give this office no stars I would. I had the apartment cleaned when I moved out. It cost me 300.00. The apartment had old stained carpet. I also got a bill for a plumbing problem. It stated I had flushed cat litter down the toilet. I am an environmentalist. I would never do that, nor did I. It is harmful to the ocean and Sea otters. The new tenant downstairs had the plumbing problem. However this horrible management company, scammers made me pay which meant they kept all of my cleaning deposit. Also they said I had to replace the 8 year old carpet. I spent 300.00 to have the apartment cleaned when I moved out. When I had my move in inspection by Christal who is no longer an employee there she took pictures of the stained and worn carpet . She even asked me what I wanted in a property and recommended other units to me. Because of her recommendation, we decided to make an appointment to view a unit the next day (after she posted the client). 2. I gave her my cell number, and told her that if ANYTHING changes to just call me. I currently live 35 minutes away from the Monterey area, so a little notice on changes would be nice. 3. We hang up the phone with the agreement "see you tomorrow at 1:30 at blahblah address" 4. I showed up to the blahblah address, 10 minutes early, and stand in front of the property on the sidewalk eagerly awaiting to view my potential new home! 5. At 1:36, after no sight of anyone, I think "oh, maybe she is already inside the unit." So I go and knock on the door, feeling embarrassed that I might have kept her waiting. 6. No dice, nobody anywhere. So I call their phone number and get an instant recording "We are closed from 12-1 daily for lunch" Well...It's after 1, and it's now very past our appt time, nobody is picking up the company phone, and I just drove over an hour for no reason. If I could give a half star I would. Do not rent from this company. From the start of our application process we had to do most of the work in communicating, when we did sign the lease we felt rushed. Though we should have taken those interactions as a red flag, we did not expect the amount of harassment and unprofessional behavior we received. My housing group received multiple threats of eviction for having a registered ESA on site, and asking for them to work with our schedules for the long list of repairs resulted in us being threatened with legal action. I had previously posted our experiences here but received a threatening phone call from staff claiming it was "defamation of character" despite our experiences being reflected by other reviewers and past tenants. During the first 4 months they inspected the property three times, with less than 24 hours notice, and would often post notice the afternoon before and then not show up. These notices also never included a reason for entering. The building I live in was recently sold and none of the tenants were informed which was a major transition to be thrust into without forewarning. At least with the new landlords we feel better about our enormous deposit being returned. My advice is stay far far away. Between the unprofessional interactions from staff, verbal harassment, and the lack of communication our tenancy has been hell. P.S. In regards to the pandemic, staff refused to wear masks when interacting with tenants and community members. read more

A few weeks go by , I haven't received an update. I also monitor my credit very closely I didn't get a inquiry on my credit report from this company so I decided to reach out and figure out what was going on with my money order. Coincidentally after filling out a Google review I get a call back stating "The owner passed on my application" explain to me what do you mean by "passed" because if I didn't qualify based off what I put down on my application you could have simply giving me back my money order considering you had no intentions on running a background or credit check based off what I placed on the application therefore there was no need to keep my money order for a background or credit check . The lady also informed me that they reached out and left a voicemail absolutely positively a lie ! they never reached out to me or somebody wasn't paying attention and called the wrong number. let's make it make sense you guys left that property up for advertisement so people would continue to give you guys money orders and the company could pocket the money. you had no intentions on renting to those people because the property more than likely was already rented and you already had a tenant. xoxo read more

Vega investments are a bunch of crooks. They have been ripping off hard-working people from Monterey for years. We moved into A one bedroom apartment and with excellent credit were charged $1725 deposit. We moved in and the apartment was not cleaned appropriately there were stains on the carpet and a lot of things that we wanted to go through with them on the scheduled walk-through. We scheduled with Vega a walk-through a week after we moved in which they never showed up. We clean the apartment and moved in and moved our couch over the huge stain That was in the living room. Over the two-year period that we live there we had numerous issues with plumbing and cockroaches. Vega investments would not respond to our phone calls and took weeks for things to get fixed. To add to the roach problem we had Vega refused to pay the garbage bill and the garbage was overflowing outside of our apts for months with no response to tennant complaints. We finally could not stand living there even though we liked the location. We gave our thirty day notice and moved out cleaning everything better then it was when we moved in. By law from the day you move out the landlord has 21 days to retern your deposit. We finally got our check 11/2 months later for only $370 they charged us $770 dollars for the stain on the carpet that was already there when we moved in and other numourous charges taking approx. $1500 of our deposit and did this to numourous other tennants that we talked to. Its all a big money making scam and we are going to sue them in small claims coart. Its unbelievable how this property management still exist. Many of these one star reviews aren't false allegations, everything you read is all very much true. My family and I have experienced the torment and abuse Vega Investment had treated us during our 8 months with them. Upon entering the property they had stated they would provide new appliances, they failed to comply since we didn't have a working refrigerator for weeks. The house had many drainage issues and the toilet wasn't even properly installed. They never provide follow-ups but instead came up with numerous excuses as to why the appliances couldn't be fixed/replaced. During our stay we were hardly ever home because we worked so much. We're a very clean family and before our time of leave we took a generous amount of cleaning. We left the home much cleaner prior to moving in. As we left the property spotless Vega had the audacity to take our FULL deposit AND THEN request that we make another payment towards some "made up" fee. Candice who works the front desk is very unprofessional, there has been many times where I'd visit the office to drop off paperwork and tenants would call asking for her and she would signal the person who is talking on the phone that she's not there. The last time I saw her, I had to repeat myself multiple times because she kept coughing over me. She's never professional and always leaves questions or concerns unanswered. We sincerely hope this does not happen to other future tenants. They continue to leech off several families. This is a WARNING, do not become a victim of this poorly-operated property management. after the 1st week they took the management of our apartment they increased the rent by $300 even though our rent was already increased in June of this year by $50. So it means $ 350 of increase for one year. They do not return your call. I left a message that there is a small of gaz in the apartment, never returned back the call. I agree it looks like they are not very honest! as the city of Monterey which doesn't have rent control and the property management or other apartments' owners charge as they want. Low integrity individuals. Young couple we know moved into one of their rentals, Rodents in ceiling caused asthmatic attach and a hospital visit. The utilities of the kitchenless garage attached to the house (on one meter) were going to be responsibility of the renter. They moved out within 5 days of moving in and then gave up most of their deposit only to get away from the mongers. read more

The girls care about all their tenants and try to always be understanding and work with each persons situation. Great properties and extremely reasonable rental rates for the Monterey area. When you move out, they even provide you with a list of cleaning requirements so that you can get your full deposit back!! I don't know of any other company that does that for you. read more

Vega investments is an awful company. They over charge for their rundown apartments, make it difficult to get any repairs, then charge you out the a** when you leave for issues that were there when you showed up. Yes, they will allow for short term rentals and in the beginning it seems like a good idea but when all is said and down they charge you thousands of dollars at the end so if you factor that in then you should just go with the more expensive apartment and not live like crap in a mildew ridden, rundown apartment.
