The owners need to fix the opening time on Google. The kitchen is closed from 4pm-8pm. If you arrive during that time and inform the staff that their website states otherwise, they nonchalantly respond "well...this is Spain". When I went another time, I had the beet hummus and guacamole. It was simply ok. The guacamole, however, was overwhelmingly sweet. I don't know why guacamole needs an added sweetener. When I had finished my dish, I waited close to 45 mins for a waiter to come to my table and ask me if I wanted dessert. After waiting for so long, I decided to just go to the bar and request my bill. The service is horrible. The wait staff were too busy eating their food at the bar and conversing amongst themselves to do their actual job and tend to their customers. But, hey! Vega is the loveliest vegan restaurant I've ever been to. For a table, definitely make a reservation because this the secret is out and this place fills quickly. This was a good vegan spot but the time was off and we arrived at 4:30pm. The waiter could not unfortunately offer us entree meals so we just ordered appetizers. I headed to the hipster Vega least night with a hungry vegetarian friend. It was great! There's cold mahoo (beer) on tap, and a nice range of local craft beers. I tried and enjoyed the malasaña, a crisp lager. If you're not up for booze, the bar was also serving home made lemonade and hibiscus drinks. We shared a mixed appetizer: delicious beetroot dip and two other small dishes that stood in its shaddow. I had the grilled parillada veggies with chimichurri for my entrée, which was delicious and filling. My friend has setan, which he enjoyed, but i'm not a fan. There are actually two VEGA restaurants in Madrid. One is on calle Luna, the other on calle Alamo. We went to both. The main restaurant, which is cozy and charming (on Luna) was good. I enjoyed the "golden milk" (coconut milk, turmeric and cinnamon I believe) and the beet veggie burger I got. The waiter was a sullen millennial who didn't know squat about the wines he served and was moody and unfriendly, but the food was pretty good. Now, if you want to eat before they open at 8, they will direct you to their other location on Alamo; DON'T GO!!! I mean it. This place was awful. Again, a foolish millennial was the waiter, but the food was worse than bad. I ordered the same drink and they botched it beyond recognition. It had at least 2 TABLESPOONS of powdery turmeric powder in the bottom and tasted like shit. That's a pretty pricey 5 euro shitty drink. I got the "meatball" dish and it was so salty, I could barely stand it. The onion soup was semi tasty, but again, too much salt! Who ever is overseeing the second restaurant has work to do! Clearly they saw a way to get more money by having a less charming place (looks like a fast food restaurant) open for tourist who want to eat before 8 which is obviously neglected in terms of oversight. read more

A Madrid friend brought me here and what a find. Vega is on a small street. The interior is also small but I would use the description cozy to go along with the friendly staff. It is a vegan's nervana. The chef creates meals that would be the envy of any eater with fresh ingredients, complimentary sauces, and artistic presentation. I have had some good food during my 3 weeks in Madrid, but the very best were the mushroom croquettes at Vega. There is no A/C, but once you get inside (there is typically a wait outside), it's quite comfortable. A policy that I love, is that when you come alone, they will seat you at a table with other solo diners, so that you are able to meet new people. I have one more week here, and plan on returning to try the menu of the day, recommended highly by the server/bartender I had the last time I went. Super nice! read more

My friends and I started with the 'patatas asadas' that come with two sauces and the mushroom 'croquetas'. Both options are a great way to start I specifically fell in love with the croquetas! They're perfectly crunchy and have the perfect sauce. I then ate the Vegetable Tikka Masala with black rice. It was full of flavor, it's a bit spicy (I love spicy) and it had a nice surprise in it: papaya slices! It was nice because every now and then you would get a refreshing bite, a break from the spicy. I recommend that plate for sure. My boyfriend ordered the soy meatballs with quinoa spaghetti and of course I tried it, super good!!!!! Most of my friends ordered that so it seems that that is the famous plate to order. For dessert we had chocolate mousse of course and it was AMAZING. We also had a dessert that came with a red icecream and it had some kind of pink mousse, I dont remember the name but it comes in a cup so its like a "crema en una copa". I LOVED this place. Great vegan or vegetarian food is not always easy to find, I walked by this place by chance and it looked so nice from the outside I had to go in. I am traveling alone and finding places to eat where you can sit by yourself and read in peace without feeling awkward can sometimes be tricky. We ordered some wine while waiting and the waiter brought us some olives to snack on. Once we ordered we were immediately rewarded for our patience! We came across Vega by chance, and what a great find! This vegan restaurant is small and looks rather dated but was only opened in January 2015.
