We were pleasantly surprised to see a brunch menu on the weekend- I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a vegan breakfast sandwich on a croissant! It was delicious! The sandwich also came with vegan sausage. My husband had the chicken parm, another sandwich you can't find. It was delicious as well! We got a variety of desserts to try. My favorite was the apple turnover. The line to order was long but that is nice to see in places like this. They have some vegan grocery items as well. This is a must stop for anyone! A visiting family was kind enough to bring some goodies from VDB for dinner. We weren't even of the existence of this bakery so we were pleasantly surprised as well as the gesture by family. The Tiramisu Cheesecake (10 out of 5!) was sublime and was amongst the best vegan cheesecake we have ever had. In fact it would be right near the top as well even compared to non vegan cheesecakes we have ever had. The Chocolate Biscotti (10 out of 5!) was again a grand slam. It's been a while since I had a biscotti since we turned vegan and this just hit the spot. With coffee - OMG! Although we got to eat half, it was very satisfying. Danish Rum Balls (10 out of 5) - my favourite ice cream flavour at one was Rum Raisin and this DRB bought memories of those days. Perfectly flavoured with rum, and the raisins were a bomb with rum flavour. Just mind blowing. Butter Pecan Tarts - (5 out of 5). Very good tarts. Not too sweet, the pie shell, very well done and baked to perfection. The Danish Pastry (3 out of 5). They are not my favourite and this didn't change my mind. I haven't been to that many vegan bakeries but this one is definitely the best I've ever been to. The pumpkin pie and apple turnover were excellent, the coffee was good, the staff were incredibly friendly and kind. The restaurant aesethic is good also. Rating: 4.2 I wanted to try a vegan birthday cake this year and to my surprise there were not many options in the gta. Luckily I found VDB through Yelp and after going through their reviews I decided to give this place a shot. I usually go for cakes from Asian bakeries for a lighter, subtly sweet flavour so we did request for less sugar here and I'm glad they were able to accommodate. I ordered the strawberry shortcake and honestly was impressed with how it turned out. I try to bake vegan desserts myself and always struggle with the creams and icings which they seemed to have nailed down. The cake was pretty dense as I expected from western desserts and unfortunately still quite sweet for me. But the strawberries tasted fresh and the almond coating was delicious, overall a good cake. As soon as I walked in, I felt comfortable and the building felt homey and welcoming. I got the pizza roll, the raspberry danish, and a cappuccino on soy milk. The pizza roll was very flavorful and the dough was soft and slightly sweet. I really enjoyed it! The raspberry danish was perfectly crispy and the perfect sweetness and fruitiness! I loved it!! This is one of my new favourite places!! I've been wanting to try this place for so long and I finally had a chance as I was close by. I wanted a gf cake but they could not have one ready until 5pm on the day that I called. They did have gf cupcakes and cookies though. I bought 4 chocolate gf cupcakes and 4 vanilla gf cupcakes in each of the frosting flavours to take to a friend's back yard visit. I had the vanilla with lemon frosting and the chocolate with vanilla icing. Both were amazing! Soft and chewy (not crumbly) and the frosting was delicious. I was so tempted by their sundaes that I had the salted caramel cashew pecan sundae. It was SO GOOD! I haven't had vegan ice cream that good in so long...it reminded me of pralines and cream ice cream from my dairy eating days. The caramel sauce was perfection...a nice gooey consistency and it actually tasted like caramel! (Unlike attempts at other vegan places). They sell other vegan items for lunch, snacks and to take home. I bought a pack of the Mykonos butter to try. I wanted their vegan lasagne but did not get it as it wasn't gf. The bakery was everything he'd claimed and more. They have all kinds of vegan pastries and treats, many which are also gluten-free, and they have a number of unique vegan groceries as well: snacks, vegan eggs, ravioli, etc. I got a lemon cheese cake (vegan and gluten-free!), a butter tart (also vegan and gluten-free!!) and stocked up on some exciting vegan gluten-free snacks. Omg Stopped here on a whim and it was the best decision ever. There is parking on the back side of the bakery (it's easy to miss). All their desserts looked amazing I literally wanted to try one of everything (I don't even have a sweet tooth)! Marshall and I ended up picking the blueberry cheesecake (amazzzzzzzing), a pumpkin pecan muffin (also amazzzzzing) and some sort of liquor-cake pop (wasn't my favourite). ALL VEGAN CAFE/BAKERY!' This a cute and niche little place and definitely worth a visit as a vegan (and non vegan too!!). Super lovely service and very attentive and helpful. A little pricier for the food but I would say quality and the concepts are worth your money. I enjoyed the food though! The food we ordered had interesting (but good!) Pate sandwich wasn't our favourite, but the tuna sandwich was very much like a 'filet o fish' kind of flavour and had a soft fish texture and nice flavours. Pea soup was yummy! DESSERTS ON THE OTHER HAND ARE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Although black forest for me was more like a mud cake with cream and jam layers, it was still delicious. Vegan Danish?! I will skip the Apple Almond Danish ($3.99)... as without the generous use of butter... the danish itself was so doughy, chewy..I might as well eat a loaf of bread. Bring on the BUTTER and be FAT and HAPPY! Black Forest Chocolate Cake ($6.99) was surprisingly good. It is almost like eating the REAL thing.. Came here to check it out and I was a little disappointed because on their lunch menu they serve empanadas and they didn't have it that day. They were still making and would be ready by the time they close. Their lunch menu isn't that extensive so you would think that would be available. I have been to this bakery a handful of times, long before I was on Yelp. The storefront faces Yonge Street. However, the parking lot is shared between the bakery and the costume store next door. If you do park in the lot at the back of both stores, you can cut through the costume store and get to the bakery that way. You get to peruse the various costumes that are displayed as you work put an appetite. I like vegan bakeries, mainly because I don't have to guess whether I can handle the amount of dairy in the desserts or if I'll be okay, as I am borderline lactose-intolerant. The first time I was there, I got a butter tart and a chocolate cupcake. They were both sweet. I expected that with the butter tart, which was yummy. However, there was too much sugar in the chocolate cake for my liking. Since then, I have taken my good friend, who is vegan, to this bakery whenever we hang out. We went during the summer when soft-serve ice cream was available. The ice cream is made with coconut milk. We both had the chocolate. It is so good. It is a must! I have a gluten intolerance and saw that they have GF options through other Yelp reviews, so I decided to pop by to grab some goodies while I was in the area. I only tried their desserts. Overall, they have a great variety of pickings, but only a couple GF options (which is totally fine!). Hopefully they can get more GF options on their menu in the future! All their GF cupcakes were chocolate based (I'm not sure if it's always a chocolate base, but that day they only had chocolate based cupcakes). I bought 2 GF cupcakes - 1 with mocha icing and 1 with chocolate icing. The cupcakes were extremely moist and very chocolatey. There were chocolate pieces/chunks in the cupcake as well. I looove chocolate, they really satisfied my chocolate craving. I was in heaven! I also bought a GF pecan butter tart as well as a regular mini apple pie. Very well done! I took a bite of the mini apple pie to taste and it did not disappoint. I was hoping to pick up one of their apple turnovers (not GF), however, the person in front of me bought the last one! I was so impressed with the quality of the cakes that I ordered the light chocolate cake for my family on Valentine's Day. This cake was fantastic, full flavoured and rich, yet light. You can't hide good news and good food forever. Vegan Danish has been our go to bakery for 3 yrs now and we're not even vegan. But when everything is just that good you crave little else. Found this Cute little cafe/bakery on yelp and went in search of some vegan desserts! This was my first time tasting vegan dessert and they were so good! Ordered a pumpkin spice pecan muffin and a blueberry danish which I had eyed up on yelp from previous reviews! Service was a little slow considering it is such a teeny cafe, they were nice and friendly but we weren't acknowledged for the first few minutes.. also as I predicted, vegan desert is expensive.. which in my opinion shouldn't be. It's the hype to find vegan is rising the prices up which is unfair.. All that said, I was expecting them to taste similar but not to the extent I couldn't tell the difference... the deserts were delicious, with my favourite being the blueberry danish.. it had almonds on it and it was so so good! They also had one or two cheeses and vegan mayonnaise which I may try the next time as I've had trouble finding it in stores.. just the prices put me off.. Finally made it to the VDB for the first time, even though I've been meaning to go since it opened 2 years ago. It's just that I never have a reason to go to Thornhill. And I guess I can't justify driving that far strictly to indulge in vegan treats. But the right opportunity finally came along this year. I was surprised to find VDB inside a costume shop. It has its own entrance, but basically is an off-shoot of the shop. I think it's amazing that a vegan, Danish-themed bakery even exists. I can't think of any other ethnically-themed vegan bakeries I've come across in all my veg-aholic travels, so this one wins a unique award. I just wish it was in a most accessible location. We picked up three danishes; one apple, two blueberry, some cookies; maple and peanut, a strawberry yogurt snack made from cultured pea protein and some Danish-style almond cookies called kransekake, that came recommended by Michelle G. The pea yogurt, was very interesting and I would recommend giving it a try if you're into dairy-free yogurts. It's not like any other I've had and was more dessert-y. The maple and peanut cookies were not the soft kind I enjoy but rather like the hard, dry variety you find on grocery store shelves, so I wasn't a huge fan. My partner gobbled them up joyfully, though. The kransekake was softer and chewy, as you would expect an almond-based cookie to be. Definitely, worth trying as part of an authentic Danish vegan experience. As for the pastry danishes, I've never been a huge fan of these (I'm more the croissant or pain au chocolat-type) but I did enjoy the one I had, toasted with coffee the next morning. I honestly could not tell the difference between it and the non-vegan versions. I think the element missing from my visit was chocolate. Chocolate improves everything. I went in the evening on a weeknight and they didn't have a big selection of goods that day I was told, so I'll definitely have to return. After seeing Jennifer K's photo of a black forest cake slice and knowing that they do custom cakes, honestly, I'm very, very tempted to order one for myself. I've actually been trying to think of occasions for it as an excuse. They also have vegan soft serve, that I didn't get to try. That will have to wait for the next trip north. read more

Not just because its close to me, but also because they have one of the best tasting cakes in the GTA. You would not even think youre eating vegan. We love their Black Forest Cake the most! Its so moist, delicious & has a perfect level of sweetness. During summer time, you definitely have to come here for their vegan soft serves! Those are to die for, simply scrumptious! Their cupcakes are also oh so moist! I super love this vegan bakery in Thornhill. They have also upgraded their shop and they now have a few beautifully set up tables and chairs. This place is AMAZING!! It's beautiful and the food is absolutely outstanding. I had an open faced sandwich, a latte and a dessert. All were some of the best examples of each I have had in a long time. I used to live in Sweden and have been to Denmark more than 10 times- this place looks like a coffee shop in Copenhagen and I felt a bit emotional being here to be honest. Reminded me of people I love and miss in Sweden and Denmark. I originally went because I heard that they were selling vegan dog food (why not), but unfortunately the nice lady at the counter told me that they stopped it 'a while' ago... not sure why. Lovely staff, cute miniature coffee shop, with a nice selection of all vegan treats. Prices are a tiny bit high, as one expects due to the extra effort, special ingredients, and smaller demand for vegan products, but the quality is also very high, and all of the goods I have sampled have been really excellent. Being an omnivore, I have been pleasantly surprised with everything I have tried, most of which has rivaled or occasionally even surpassed their non-vegan equivalents, which is certainly not always the case with vegan food products. One note for the uninitiated, when you purchase, staff will inform you that a number of the vegan products require refrigeration, like those with buttercream frosting example, so they don't travel long distances well on hot days, plan your shopping and travel appropriately. I particularly enjoyed the black forest cake, the cupcakes, and the cheesecake was also surprisingly good. The imitation Reese's Peanut Butter Cup was decadent and awesome , only the butter tarts and pecan tarts gave the impression that compromises were made to keep things vegan. Bottom line, this is a great spot to get treats for the vegan or vegetarian in your life, I highly recommend them. read more

Love this place. Sure it was way out of town for me. Sure I can't figure out a way to get there with public transit from Toronto... BUT it's worth the trip, however you get there. To be honest, before we went there I thought it was just going to be danishes, which was actually exciting in and of itself, BUT it had a variety of other Danish baked goods (like marzipan cookies, and kransekake ) as well as vegan chocolate bars, chocolate soft serve, cookies, brownies and biscotti. And little grocery type items like fake tuna and non-dairy cheese. The woman that runs the bakery is so sweet and friendly, I felt like I could talk to her all day about food and not get tired of it.
