As an omnivore, Veggie Gal is my favorite vegetarian restaurant in the greater Boston area. So often at other restaurants, even vegetarian-focused restaurants, it can feel like there's something missing when ordering vegetarian dishes. "Oh, this could use meat." Veggie Galaxy, by contrast, knows how to make vegetarian dishes work. I especially recommend the fake-mozzarella sticks; the texture and flavor both approximate real mozzarella very closely, and go really well with the marinara sauce that comes on the side. I've tried a lot of the sandwiches and never been disappointed. Portions are great, and the flavors and textures go well together. My goodness, it is difficult to find a vegetarian friendly restaurant that is not just salad or Mac and cheese. My best friend and I decided to tried this place for lunch (we got take out). The place is super cute by the way--diner vibes, oh and their patio--cannot wait for the summer. I order Kendall Square burger. The flavor was on point. I loved the sweetness from the roasted red pepper purée and the arugula helped balanced it out. I was not a huge fan of the onion rings in there, only cause the batter was very thick (I actually picked it out of my burger, it was falling apart anyways) I think if I were to order this again, I would opt out of the onion rings and maybe add an easy egg on it. Mind you this burger was super filling, I upgraded to a side of tater tots (yum). Definitely recommend this place and will come again to try other items. read more

Sitting in our hotel room in Boston watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Guy FIeri is at Veggie Galaxy in Cambridge, Mass. We realized that it was just a train ride away from our hotel so we hopped on the train and were there in 15 minutes. We absolutely loved the entire experience and the food was so good. The Rueben and the Chickpea tuna melt was oh so very good. Could not believe that the Rueben was meatless. We also had the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake that was absolutely fantastic. The food at Veggie Galaxy is amazing! But first I want to rave about the service. I've been here several times since moving to Cambridge. Every time I've been here, it's been super crowded and still the service is fantastic! The wait staff is always super friendly and attentive. The vibes at Veggie Galaxy are next level! The food, atmosphere and people all exhude comfort. Veggie Galaxy has real classic diner vibes. The comfort food, milkshakes, booth seating. And it's all vegetarian. It's heaven on earth and in a convenient Central Square location. The milkshakes are super tasty. I'm not normally a milkshake person, but when I read that it uses Fomu ice cream, I was all in. They are sweet silky smooth and super filling. I've had the strawberry, Oreo, peanut butter chocolate. The peanut butter chocolate was a bit difficult to sip, so I don't think I'll get that one again. The chicken and waffles are really good. I've never had anything like that before! I've tried different mac and cheeses and the mac n cheese bites. It's really tasty vegan mac and cheese! Are we sure it's not real cheese? The Mac n cheese waffle burger was so crazy! It has waffles made of mac n cheese for buns! I'll be getting it again for sure. It's super indulgent in the best way that diner food should be. The desserts are the best part. I cannot even begin to say how amazing this spot is. Almost everything and anything can be made vegan and wow the QUANTITY is literally insane. So be careful of overordering. Staff is nice and helpful. Environment inside is very diner vibes- One thing we didnt like as much was how coconutty the milkshakes were but they were still good. Orange creamsicle/ rootbeer were delicious Mac and cheese balls were so delicious with the marinara sauce, french onion soup was very good too. Came with a group of friends for their first veggie Galaxy experience. It was a mix for folks, half the group liked their food, the other half with myself included were not as content. I've been here many times and enjoy most of the food, but my hash browns did not taste good. Something was burned so it wasn't very pleasant. The Italian sausage seitan was very good. Tons of flavor, outside of the texture I would've thought I was eating real Italian sausage. The eggs were poached perfectly, and the hollandaise was good for being vegan. I love hollandaise but unfortunately can't eat it anymore so this was a great alternative! I did get to try two new things! The poutine and mac and cheese bites. The Mac and cheese bites were fine, but I'm also not a fan of normal Mac and cheese bites so take my review with a grain of salt. Oh Veggie Galaxy... we meet again... my sweet, sweet love... you were everything I remembered you to be: menu egregiously long, potato salad banging, vegan cheese NOT sticking to the roof of my mouth (first time ever), delicious options up the wazoo... Truly a diamond in the rough of Cambridge. Our party got the Reuben, the Club with a side of ranch, and colas. We were perturbed to learn the Veggie Galaxy does not serve Coke products. The colas were kind of a flop, but that is a permissible error in the grand scheme of the wonders the establishment provides. The Reuben allows the orderer to pick their bread, which rocks. I wish there has been more sauerkraut in the sandwich because the bread to cheese to sauerkraut ratio was a little off, however I was not being artful in my eating pattern. The potato salad was divine. I've had it in the past, and it stood the test of time. I have thought it before and I will think about it after this trip. The Club was a hit. I have never had a club sandwich as a vegetarian so getting to chomp one was a blast. The vegan bacon was really good and came closest to any alternative I've had of creating a similar flavor profile. Thank god there was ranch in this establishment, which seems to not exist on the east coast. The portion size was bussin bussin. I will still continue to bother everyone I know to go back to the veggie galaxy. Would go back any day of the week. It's a blessing for my wallet I'm not from Boston. 4.99/5. I was excited to try Veggie Galaxy, especially since we are a vegetarian family. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. The food was average, and the service was disappointing. We ordered hot teas, French fries, and onion rings to start, followed by a chocolate chip pancake for our toddler, a Mac and Stack sandwich for me, and a cauliflower Po' Boy for my husband. The fries and onion rings were decent, but our hot teas never arrived. My sandwich, recommended by the server, was so overly salty that I couldn't take more than a couple of bites. I ended up sharing half of my husband's sandwich because the server disappeared after delivering our food and didn't return until it was time for the check. On the bright side, the coleslaw with my sandwich was good, and my toddler enjoyed the fries and pancake. When the check arrived, my sandwich had been removed (which I appreciated), but the teas we never received were still on the bill. After pointing this out, we were given a corrected check.We really felt invisible and despite the service issues the server was pretty nonchalant. Despite these issues we still left a 20% tip because we aren't the type to withhold it. Perhaps it was an off day, but I won't be driving all the way to Cambridge to dine here again. read more

What can I say? I drive 110 minutes one way to get here and I have zero regrets. I just went a few days ago but now I want to go back It is so good!!! We got two orders of brussel sprouts, two orders of chopped cheese one with fries and the other with potato salad, birthday cake slice and brocolli cheddar soup to heat up later. Eating at Veggie Galaxy is like eating at the Video Game Cafe whose food you always wanted to try. The decor and ambiance is unlike any place I've been, in the best way. Its modern aesthetics meet nostalgic diner, and create an instant magnetism. The staff's warm and friendly demeanor only adds to this ambiance!! Our waitress was incredible!! I wish I remembered her name, but when we asked her about her recommendations, we could just tell that she loved her job!! It was so refreshing to see someone so excited about their workplace and so knowledgeable about the myriad of combinations you could create. She catered to my gluten allergy flawless. Not a vegetarian. Never really tried much along those lines until I met a friend who is/does and they recommended this place highly. I can see why. I figured I'd go with something carnivore-esque. The vegetarian Reuben. Holy schmoly. The seitan, seasoned like corned beef, with the kraut, cheese and dressing on rye blew my doors off. Out-freakin-standing. I have since been back about a dozen times in the last couple months to try various items and it would appear they can do no wrong. Everything is great. Rh visit was no exception. On this visit, I started out with the Tater Tots. They came out hot and crispy without being overcooked. The ranch dressing on the side was creamy and delicious which complemented the hot potatoes very well. Next I moved on to the Big Mac and Cheese. It really tastes just like a cheese burger. It was super flavorful and filling. While it wasn't my favorite thing, it was good. The next thing I tried was the Vegan Cheddar and Broccoli Soup. Omg! It tasted like a hug. Like a literal hug in a bowl. It was savory and comforting on that very cold day. Just what the doctor ordered! I would order this again! Last was the waffle with strawberries and banana butter. It was just the sweet but of goodness necessary to end my meal. The strawberries were fresh and contrasted that warm waffle perfectly. And the banana butter was sweet and good. Overall, I would go back to Veggie Galaxy again. The food was great and the service was quick and efficient. Please note that this a diner and it is vibrant and loud. Great for a veggie and vegan diner place. But food is more aesthetic than actually amazing. But it is good average diner food. This is one of the better restaurants in central area, and I always come here if I do get hungry at central. The aesthetics inside are so cute and very typical American diner themed. So cool! This place is amazing if you're a vegan. Vegan options galore, for every meal of the day. The food is filling, packed with flavor, and exactly what the menu says it will be. I had the Galaxy breakfast sandwich and a mimosa. The mimosa was deadly and you could easily slam back five of these if it was five o'clock somewhere. The burger was just as amazing. I couldn't finish it all as it was a bit too much but I loved every bite. Further, they have cholula! Preference is tapitio but I was super happy it was Tabasco. Anytime someone suggests going to a "Veggie" someplace...I pause. I was raised in a meat lovin' household so it's hard to process anything other than. Nonetheless, I'm always up for trying new foods and supporting local businesses so I gave this place a shot. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety on the menu and everything we ate was delicious! It was nice to try something meat-less for a change and I think I'll try more of it. Food is tasty and fully customizable. For instance, you have a choice for potato salad, slaw, chips, fries, onion rings, and more as a side! Note that currently they're only accepting take out orders so the menu is limited due to COVID. The take out menu you can find online but still has a lot of the good stuff. Veggie Galaxy deserves so much better than 1 star. Unfortunately, due to their brand-new menu's impact on their handling of nut allergies, I have no choice but to give them this rating that is utterly unbecoming of such a well-run establishment. Around 1 in every 13 children has a nut allergy, and by adding more nuts to their menu and not taking adequate precautions, they are excluding those children (and therefore their families), as well as any adults with nut allergies. I ate there for years before this menu change, and it was without question my favorite restaurant due to its impeccable handling of my allergies and amazing food. However, today I was turned away because of the new menu change, and was also told that there has already been at least one allergic reaction due to the increased presence of nuts on their new menu. It is extremely disappointing that a restaurant so uniquely good at handling dietary restrictions has made this poor decision. If they could figure out any way to restart safely serving those with nut allergies, I would give them 5 stars in a heartbeat. If even remotely possible, please make some small change that will fix this. read more

I went to Veggie Galaxy several years ago and while I don't remember what I ordered, I remember enjoying it. A few days ago I was staying in Cambridge and was excited to see Veggie Galaxy now has delivery available. I ordered the "chicken" parm sandwich, buffalo cauliflower, vegan loaded mac and cheese, and peanut butter chocolate pie. I didn't realize initially but the delivery is through Doordash so technically not Veggie Galaxy's problem. With that said, it was their platform. The order arrived a few minutes late, which is not a big deal. The bigger deal was that it took the driver almost 40 minutes to make the 15 minute drive to us. By then a lot of the food was soggy or, in the case of the pie, kind of melty. I was also pretty bummed to learn that the upgraded onion ring side was only three onion rings. The mac and cheese was still pretty good. The cauliflower was a pile of mush. The bigger bummer was that when I contacted the restaurant to suggest they may want to talk to their contracted delivering company (DoorDash) they told me I should contact them myself. My $70 was already spent and I wasn't asking for a refund, but was trying to be helpful so their "Not our problem" response was really off-putting. I'd go back but would certainly not order delivery. read more

The gyro was a completely different story. Both the potato salad and the meat substitute just did not taste remotely close to what they should be and it made the experience a little lack luster. It's a nice concept with diner-style take on vegetarian food, but I found the flavors to be lacking in their dishes. We tried the French Onion Soup Mac and Cheese, which looks amazing in pictures. This comes in a vegan and a vegetarian version, we got the vegetarian. We also got the Seitan Gyro. Both dishes looked great, but needed some more punch to the flavors, or at least some more salt. The coffee, which I had been looking forward to since it's equal exchange, was almost undrinkable it was so bitter. The stand out dish was the salad special- scrumptious, with kale and chickpeas, and a nice dressing. The lentil soup was also good. Didn't really like the dressing on my sister's tofu kale salad, nor her vegan chicken wings. Not a fan of that gluten-y meat substitute. She also got mozzarella sticks. The sauce and crispy breading were good, but the vegan cheese was buttery and not exactly what I'm looking for in a mozzarella stick experience. I'm all for vegan options, especially when that means highlighting quality produce and ingredients. I don't think I'm super into substitutions for meat in the vegan kingdom though. I never thought I would eat at a vegan establishment but Veggie Galaxy showed me the error of my ways. The whole restaurant has a very classic diner atmosphere. Then you look at the menu and see there are no greasy burgers or tuna melts. Every item either includes meat substitutes or is simply meatless. A good chunk of options are strictly vegan options but I believe anything on the menu can be made vegan. On my first visit I got a grilled cheese special - gruyere with mushrooms and herbs. I recommend choosing the sourdough bread for whatever sandwich you put together. I was pleasantly surprised at the combination of flavors. I prefer the cabbage slaw as my side, which ranks among the most flavorful coleslaw I have ever had. My wife enjoyed the Kendall square black bean burger. For drinks we got to choose from at least ten different teas. Each pot has enough for 2 people with a bit extra left over. Also coconut milk frappes! Great option for the lactose intolerant. The chocolate frappe was very good and again great for two people. Hopefully they can host dine-in guests again soon! read more

i will always sing praises of veggie galaxy! everything on their menu is always made to perfection. their cauli of the sea is my current favorite! the outside was the perfect crunch texture and it paired so well with the coleslaw and dipping sauce! i came here 4th of july weekend for the blue plate special corndogs and i really wish those would become a permanent part of the menu. the waiters and staff are so incredibly kind and they make you feel so welcomed. i really respect that sometimes they'll have you wait 5-10 min to give the waitstaff a moment to catch up. well done! it seems like they treat their staff really well which makes me even happier to dine here. read more
