Brian is awesome! I have had him inspect my assembly of two E-bikes, and straighten a defect in another bike. He is very skilled, personable, and prompt. He responds in a reasonable time and his charges are very reasonable. A major advantage to using his on-site service is that once you have decided upon the service that you want, you schedule it and your bike will be fixed at your place in short order, BY THE PERSON WHO DOES THE REPAIR. This is as opposed to leaving it at a shop where it may sit for a couple of weeks and is handed from representative upon contact, to scheduler, to tech, to representative upon delivery weeks later. I'm new-ish to the Portland area and needed to find a bike mechanic. My former mechanic (in Seattle) was independent and did a really high quality level of work. Safe to say my expectations were high. I like the idea of an onsite/mobile mechanic to simplify things. I tracked down velofix via an online search, one day after filling out the online service request I received a call back from Brian. Scheduling was easy and it was less than a week lead time. He also asked the right questions that made me feel confident using Velofix. He also didn't over promise, I was told that one of the needed bike repairs might not be able to be accomplished without ordering parts. Brian was on time for the appointment. He also came prepared, when he looked at my bikes he mentioned some research that had done on the headset I thought needed replaced. We talked about bikes a little longer than we probably should have before he got to work. Everything brian had to say gave me more confidence he knew what he was doing. Not long after he got to work he let me know what parts were recommended to be replaced on bike #1 and gave me a couple of replacement options. The repairs on bike #2 weren't as straightforward, however, both repairs were made and recommendations were provided for future part replacements/improvements. Brian has an impressive attention to detail, very important for this type of work. The mobile repair shop is also very impressive. Every tool imaginable and plenty of standard parts available. I'd recommend Velofix for any range of needs. Fantastic service! Brian does top notch work, plus he's friendly, on-time, and offers fair prices. The mountain bike love of my life is in her 24th year with me and Brian treats us well. It makes me happy that I don't have to part with her for more than an hour (some shops want you to wait 3 weeks for a summer tune-up) and that he takes care of her right in front of my house. This service exceeded my expectations. I wanted to upgrade my bike with a new wheel set and new components but my schedule did not allow me to time to get to "normal" LBS hours. I came across this service and figured I'd try it out and was not disappointed. As soon as I placed my order I got a call from Brian to talk about the details of my build. He was personable and professional and made me feel comfortable. He came to my area of town to pick up my bike early so as to have it built and ready to go at the time of my actual scheduled appointment. He did a complete overhaul of my bike, taking everything apart and cleaning everything on the bike and even polished the frame. The bike looks amazing and Brian's attention to detail is evident. He talked to me in detail about everything he did and offered advice on how to change things to better optimize the bike. Furthermore, he made himself available if I had any questions or problems after the drop off. My rear disc brake wasn't working and the front brake was pretty unresponsive. I made an appointment at my place of work and he was there when I arrived on my bicycle. It turned out that the hydraulic line for the front brake had broken and leaked fluid on the disc. Brian said he would have to order a new line and it would take a couple of days. Off he went with my bicycle. He texted the next day that he had the part and I got my bicycle back! He went out of his way to track down the part and I am very happy. Brian drove his bicycle repair van to my house. He arrived at the appointed time and I rolled my bike to the van. A couple of hours later my bike was completely overhauled. The price was comparable to other shops I have used. I never had to leave my house. Brian is probably the best mechanic and bike fitter in the Portland/Vancouver Metropolitan area. Brian is the best mechanic I've ever hired. I put a lot of miles on my bike as a daily commuter, and I do some basic maintenance on my bike (greasing, cleaning, minor cable adjustments), but wear and tear had caught up to my bike, and it wasn't much fun to ride. I was considering getting a new bike, but thought I'd check in with a mechanic to see if it was even worth attempting. Brian looked over my bike and showed me specific issues that were making my ride less pleasant. He gave lots of options for how to fix those things, and the cost of those options. He tailored his recommendations to my needs, and told me about some issues which don't need to be fixed right away, but that I should keep an eye on. He happily answered all my questions, filling in a lot of gaps I had for years of riding. I felt confident that he was going to take great care of my bike. Once we agreed on the fixes, he worked on my bike and finished it right when he promised (this has been a big problem with other mechanics), and it was like getting a brand new bike! By simply changing the cable housing on my cyclocross bike, he gave me much better braking power with my disc brakes.
