This is the fifth time I have come to the Velvet Taco in Baybrook and they do not have the micro cilantro for the tacos. The man who took my order knew that y'all did not have any, but didn't mention it, and then when I got my order and brought it up to the counter to point that out, he said "oh we just sold out". I said, it's on the menu that it comes with the taco. It's one of the flavor points of the taco. That's the only reason I ordered those particular tacos. And it happens every single time that they're out. The associate said "we're not gonna buy five boxes of them and then not use them" which is a crappy response to not having something that is on the menu, and not telling someone until after you hand them the order, that you don't have part of the ingredients for the items you ordered. It's pretty uncool giving a super negative energy response to someone who is pointing out that you didn't give them a correct order, because for the fifth time of visiting this location, they do not have ingredients for the items on the menu. read more

So big shout out to Joanna M for wonderful customer service. ! I've had the chimichuri taco, bacon burger taco, chicken tikka and the mexi Cali taco. All of them were really good and flavorful. But I keep going back to chicken tikka. It keeps me full! Today I tired the mexi Cali and it was very good, very flavorful. I saw that u can get lettuce instead of tortilla so I tried it. And honestly I couldn't even tell that I was eating a taco with lettuce instead place of tortillas. It was good and id ur watching ur carbs or ur diabetes, I think this is a great option. As far as parking, I've never had an issue, not even on a weekend. And the price is $10 for 2 tacos and a drink. I mean u can beat it. !! It's a deal. The flavors overpowered each other, it was just too much of everything that it was hard to taste anything. Nothing stood out and it fell apart with each bite. It was a meal but that's all it was. Some meals linger after you're done eating. I forgot what I had by the time I stepped out the door. The service was great but unfortunately it was difficult to find a clean table to sit down at. We had to clean our table off before our food was ready to be picked up at the pickup counter. We weren't the only ones having a hard time finding a clean table. I ate here a few times in the last week and everything I ordered from the tacos to the shrimp bowl was very good. They also offer a 'Say What combo' where you can choose 2 tacos, a side and a drink for around $15 I believe. They have a variety of tacos for you to choose from and a handful of bowl options as well. The flavors are delicious but one of my favorite things was the queso, it hit the spot!! A new WTF (Weekly Taco Feature) means a new chance for tacos with flavors you can't get anywhere else and I'm here for it. Aaron and Rijja at the drive thru are always so kind and helpful. So when I have questions about the tacos, they have answers. This week's taco is the Wicked Al Pastor and it. Is. Delicious! Don't bother if you're squeamish because it has crickets on it... yes, actual crickets. But, honestly, you should try it anyways because it tastes so good and it just adds a little crunch. I might choose torchys queso over it, but it's still fantastic. Their menu offers a wide array of flavors and signature tacos, but the Cadillac of all tacos and the reason I keep coming back is the tikka chicken taco. It's phenomenal This is probably a one-off, but I went with a coworker and I received my chips and queso and then my tacos long before he got any of his food. It was fairly busy, but people who came after us kept getting their food. Great selection and bold flavors! I'm visiting from Florida and needed a late night snack before checking into the hotel. I didn't want to eat too much and was torn on what to order. I asked the gentleman working the drive thru what his favorite was. He said the Chicken Tikka is a fan favorite, but he loves the Chimichurri Steak. I went with his selection and was pleasantly surprised at the bold and fresh flavor combinations. I leave early tomorrow to head home and am not sure if I'll have time to grab another snack from there, but it's on my radar for next time. This was my first time visiting Velvet Taco Baybrook. Unlike previous visits at other locations, this was the first time that I visited during daylight hours where drinks were not involved (see my review of the Montrose location). This location has a drive thru! I've never seen a drive thru at any of the other locations that I've visited. The staff was very friendly and the cashier was so nice and complimentary. I ordered the Picnic Chicken and Cuban Pig to go. The taco take out box held them in place and my food was still hot when I got home. I really liked the Picnic Chicken! All the flavors worked well and I enjoyed the crispy chicken skin. I've had the Cuban Pig before, but I didn't like it as much as the Picnic Chicken. They have a nice sized patio out front. Parking is plentiful for now, but that could change once other businesses open up in the shopping strip. Time will tell. The verdict: Velvet Taco tastes good at 2 am after bar hopping or at 6 pm after running errands lol. read more

This fast casual Mexican place recently opened and has been among the few new establishments I wanted to try since I was hospitalized earlier this year. A quick in-and-out at Baybrook Mall today motivated me to grab lunch here. Talk about worth the wait. I would discover the eatery deserves the hype it's been given through sampling its rotisserie chicken and Korean fried rice tacos and brisket nachos. The tacos run through a delicious gamut of spicy and sweet. Tacos usually fall apart, but not the ones here. It was also obvious that the kitchen staff took preparation and presentation seriously. After finishing the tacos, I had the urge to try the brisket nachos, and I'm so glad I didn't leave the restaurant. If you want what's closest to a complete meal here, the nachos are it. They consist of slow-roasted Angus brisket, roasted corn pico, citrus lime crema, and more layered on top of blue corn chips. At least two people are required to wolf them down. Just like how Ohayo and Kura are adjacent to each other, Velvet Taco isn't far from Torchy's. If I were to choose between VT and Torchy's, the former wins hands down. read more

Super cute vibe! First time visiting Velvet Taco. I'm new to the area but I do love tacos! I was greeted by staff upon arrival. I opted for the combo meal which was two tacos and a side with a drink. I went with the Cuban pig and the Kobe smash burger. I chose queso as the side. I was so excited to see white queso! It has some taco sauce on top with some green salsa. It added a nice kick. The tacos were delicious. I would have never thought to do those combos with the tacos. The flavors were spot on and tortillas had a great texture and temperature. The restrooms were clean as well. The ordering process was quick. I appreciate the staff calling out your name to come get your order. I didn't wait too long for mine. There were hooks for bags under the wooden tables. It's pretty convenient. For the chips, it was quite stale. The guac dip, i kinda like it to be more creamier but that's just my opinion. Each taco were an interesting combo of flavors. Some of my favorite chain restaurant tacos! I prefer velvet taco to torchy's, and I like that they always have innovative creations and flavor combinations, especially their taco of the week/the one they change out. The tortillas are amazing here because they don't break a part easily or get soggy. The service is pretty fast and efficient, and the actual restaurant location is super cool and in a really convenient location near Baybrook Mall. I had heard a lot of positive reviews on the spicy tikka chicken taco so I wanted to try it. I also ordered the Nashville hot tofu taco. Both were okay. The chicken tikka one was honestly something I would want to eat as a meal, concept is very weird as a taco especially because it comes with rice on it. I probably won't be back again but I will say that this is a cool place for anyone who is interested in trying less traditional tacos. Generally speaking, I love Velvet Taco. They have delicious, imaginative food and friendly customer service. Here comes the big BUT... They changed their hours, which really stinks for those of us who work odd hours and would love to grab some awesome tacos at 11:00 PM on a weeknight. They took the Paloma off the menu, which was my favorite boozy beverage. Most annoyingly, they often don't have their WTF (weekly taco feature). Three times in the past month, I've gone in specifically for the WTF and have left without one. C'mon, VT. You can do better. I can deal with the suburban hours and the axed booze. On 11/28 at around 12pm I ordered some tacos and guac from the Webster, TX location through Door Dash. One taco I ordered was a Grilled Steak taco, but on the app I checked the box to remove the grilled steak, since who I was ordering it for is sensitive to red meat, and she wanted some mushrooms in her taco. Time passed and the order came - The dasher handed me the bag and told me that the store had removed the mushrooms and added the steak back to the taco. I asked why, he said they thought I has mis-ordered. I went into the app and put that the order was wrong and put in for a re-order. I wanted to make sure it was done correctly this time so I called the store directly. A young lady picked up the phone and I informed her of the situation. She apologized and said the next one would be done correctly. I asked her if it was normal for their location to change people's Door Dash orders. I didn't say this next part to her, but I only asked because this is the first time in 5 years of using the app any store has just up and purposefully changed my order, rather than just making a simple mistake. I told her if I had mistakenly ordered it in the app it would have been entirely my fault, but the DD app did have [ ] NO STEAK as an option. She apologized again and promised the next one would be correct. I told her thank you and we hung up. She was overall polite and professional, given the awkward situation. A few moments later I get a call on my cell phone. I answered and a different woman spoke, asking me if I was the Door Dash who spoke to an employee there just a moment ago. I told her I was and she said was the manager and wanted to inform me that it was the Dasher that told them I had changed the order and that she didn't appreciate me being rude to her employee. Before I could begin to answer she hung up on me. I was actually stunned a moment. I immediately canceled my re-order on the DD app for fear that someone at the location might spit in the food I had re-ordered. I wanted to calm things down and bury the hatchet so I tried to call back a few times but no one answered or they forcefully hung up on me early. I always try to be even and understanding with customer facing workers, but this is beyond childish. I did not insult, speak harshly or yell at that employee in any way. They have a hard enough time on a normal day and I just wanted my food correct. I don't believe that's too much to ask. Needless to say I can never get food from this location again. I hope someone can instruct that manager on how to not escalate an already diffused situation in the future. read more

The only negative was the tortilla for the shrimp taco was chewy and tough and had to use my hands to tear while the smash burger taco was much softer. I don't think the tortillas are handmade. This is my second time trying Velvet Taco as I had it 7+ years ago in the Houston area and I wasn't impressed so wanted to give it another shot. When I got to the counter to order, the employee at the register just looked at me and didn't say anything so after a few seconds of us exchanging looks, I was like "Are you ready for me?" and she just nodded. That was a little strange tbh. There is quite a lot of variety of taco options so I opted for the Korean fried rice and Kobe smash burger tacos and the queso blanco. There's no numbering system, they just call out something cute like "Michelle, it's taco time!" when your order is ready. I wish they gave you more chips to eat with the queso but boy was the queso rich and creamy. They really fill your tacos to the brim with toppings so it can get pretty messy and I liked that the Kobe smash burger came with a crispy taco. I order from Velvet Taco at least once a week. So, obviously I love it! I like that their website is user friendly and is so easy to calculate macros and figure out food allergies. I also just like the food. With all that said, they get my order wrong almost every time. I've given up on the NO TORTILLA. They always add it, so I just remove it when I get home. Today, it was the picked fresnos. You can see how many I had to pick out. They are good at helping if I return to let them know about the mistakes, but I don't usually notice until I get home and don't want to drive all the way back. Will it stop me from going? They only offer blue corn tortilla chips, but they were great. Velvet Taco offers vegan and gluten free options. They also offer limited time tacos on their menu weekly. Everything is made from scratch, with fresh ingredients. There is a kids menu too. Velvet Taco even offers catering! For those of you who love drinking (not me), Velvet Taco does serve margaritas. The vibe inside is cool, with a street flair. Fair warning, Velvet Taco gets very busy. When I was here, the line inside and their drive thru was packed! When calling out orders, you can barely understand the staff on their speaker. The ears of corn they use, were stored in the back, where the bathrooms are! DISGUSTING! That's a serious health code violation!! While I was in line for the bathroom, there was a long wait because, to my total shock, a GUY came out of the women's bathroom! That made me extremely uncomfortable and scared. To add insult to injury, that "guy" was one of Velvet Tacos' employees. That's not FAIR for the actual women that come here, especially for parents who bring their children to this restaurant too. I'm not being prejudice or trying to enforce my religious beliefs, it's just that this incident wasn't acceptable. I have no photos - we ate them too quickly. I have now decided, this is my go to taco place over Torchy's. The packaging is top notch. The tacos are filled to the brim with all the goodness. The staff is fun. They haven't messed up on one part of my order yet. Their online ordering is so convenient. We got: Korean Fried Rice, Birria, Smashburger, French Dip and the Cuban. So far I have tried the rotisserie chicken and beer battered cauliflower tacos and the guacamole and chips. My husband has had the picnic chicken and pork. I think his favorite is the picnic chicken.
