Ordered off Uber eats and cheese enchiladas description says served with queso or gravy and I couldn't choose an option but it just came as a tortilla with uncooked center cheese drenched in their plasticky queso. Even the salsa was bad. Fajitas were OK but kind of bland and nothing special. I LOVE this little hole in the wall! Food feels homey and authentic. The serving sizes are very generous, I was full after just 2 pupusas. The service was great and did not rush us after we were done eating (wanted to stay to watch the rockets). Absolutely LOVE little hole in the wall places like this. Was going next door to Nobi and noticed they had papusas which I love! The bean was amaaazing! Enjoyed the cheese and meat one too. Their wings are actually DELICIOUS. Perfect fry ans spice level, dont even need sauce. We ordered take out and it was about a 15 min wait but worth it. We ate here several years ago. I don't know why we haven't been back. Sal stands for El Salvador or Salvadorian. One problem is the server, though pleasant and accommodating when available, is often in the kitchen or behind a barrier and cannot see customers when they need something. After waiting (aren't waiters supposed to be the ones who wait?) too long for the check, we had to get up and chase him down. The chips & salsa were good. I had the Carne Guisada which was quite good. She had tacos El Carbon, but the beef fajita meat was tough. That would have averaged 3 1/2 which I'm rounding up to 4 stars. The chips & salsa were good. I would definitely come back. Next time I was to try their pupusas. But we'll have to see if she's willing. __ We've eaten out every meal for 30 years read more

So it's a small place clean. But I ordered a carne asada which I had look at it and was disgusting looking and took a bite and spit it out. The rice needed flavor ( salt at least) so needless to say I did not eat that. The pupusas where just ok. Hubby was not satisfied with them an ordered one just to eat something. My girlfriend is a pupusa fanatic (she's half el salvadorian)- read some great reviews on the food here and decided to give it a shot. First- this isn't a romantic spot or a place for large parties- it's in a strip mall nestled between a pawn shop and Nobi public house. The restaurant is dated, but clean. Looks like a 2 man show- the server was also the food runner, busman and everything in between. That said, this guy busted his tail and provided awesome service. We started with an order of fried yuca followed by plato mixto and Plato trio. Yuca- Man this stuff is like gold. Cooked perfectly and served with cabbage and tomato sauce. Pupusa- we both had de revuelta pupusas- the cook knows his stuff. Loved it! Definitely coming back to this spot/ great service and great food to back it up! read more

Omgggg in my past life I'm sure I was Salvadoran!! This hidden gem will transport you to this country. Most important is the customer service and the service here is a 10++. Vanessa Was awesome even though she didn't speak much English the language of food is universal. I ordered the shrimp with veggies which comes with beans and rice and quac . The salsa was killer. The rest... not so much. Rivera's Mex-Sal is stripmall hole-in-the-wall. 7 booths and four large tables. For this, they've got TWO hi-def big-screen TV's, continuously playing black gangster-rap (50 Cent, Trey Songz) music videos on the Telemundo2 Urban Tip channel. But wait! they've got the sound turned down and salsa music playing on the juke box, which sometimes sort of synchronizes to the gangster dance numbers. I guess this is the Salvadoran side of the joint. The decor runs to Latino eclectic, with a great mural of a Salvadoran kitchen over the cash register (blurred badly in my photo, alas.) They've also got two mounted stag heads (hooray taxidermy! exceeds several local bbq joints) a carved wood elephant's head, a gilt statue of a reclining Buddha, a polyurathaned cutout of Christ's Last Supper and a glittering Chinese pig. The booths, formica tables and chairs are all heavily worn and the paint is chipped. My waiter brought me salsa - excellent, killer. Lots of cilantro, onion, chopped tomatoes were fresh, some other spices I couldn't quite place. I could have made a meal on the salsa alone. But I ordered the quarter chicken in mole, with the mole on the side. I got cabbage subbed for the rice. The chicken was a disappointment - two small chicken thighs, on the bone, with not much meat, not very tender. The mole sauce was good and not very sweet, presented nicely with some crumbled Salvadoran farm cheese over it. A side salad of chopped iceberg lettuce and pale tomatoes wasn't much to speak of, but it was somewhat saved by three wedges of avacado. Some dressing or lime juice would have helped it a lot. As the night was chill, I got coffee; sadly not very strong and served in a small plastic mug. But the waiter kept my cup full. The side of cabbage was actually the most interesting part of the dinner - crisp with vinegar, black pepper and some chiles, made a great accompaniment to the chicken. Great salsa, great cabbage, fairly good mole. Need to work on the meat and the rest of the package. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. We've only had Salvadorian food one time previously and decided to stop by after a day at NASA. I don't even know where to start. DD has a gluten allergy and can't even do corn chips, so we got a half order of Yuca and some queso for her... We were all blown away at how delicious that combination was. Next we tried the Horchata- DD and I both fell in love. They make their own Horchata from Morro, it was lovely... Kind of like drinking a cold chai. Hubby ate ALL of his fajitas, and commented on how the guacamole was really fresh. I ordered the Plato Mixto (plantains, 2 pupusas, and the corn tamale). Geez. Where has this food been all my life!? The pupusas were so awesome- I got one with beans and the other with the Loroco (AMAZING!!!!) it reminded me of the Arepas I had in Venezuela. That was so good I had to order another for the long drive back to Dallas. The Customer service was phenomenal! Jose was SUPER friendly and was really great about explaining everything. He has a great personality and was really fun to talk to about the food. He was busting his butt out on the floor, working all the tables himself. Half the restaurant was full and he was just hitting it... I can only imagine how hard the guy in the kitchen was working. Perfect end to our mini-vaca. I ordered the beef enchiladas with charro beans and 6pc wings to go. I am 10 minutes from the restaurant; called ahead to place my order; told order would be ready in 20 minutes. Once I arrived had to wait 10 minutes; so the order was ready on time. The enchiladas looked really good; flour tortillas made with fajita beef, covered with melted cheese and a gravy like sauce. So disappointing because the enchiladas were not hot, they were room temperature. The meat tasted old and there were a few dry pieces mixed in; the gravy like sauce had a good flavor. The charro beans were not hot, they were room temperature also, but they were seasoned well. They tasted really good once I heated them up. Wow! Such good food. Never had Pupusas before and this won't be my last. I got the Loroco Pupusas with the corn tamale. The spicy cabbage is so good. The guacamole was fresh. The ladies at the counter were friendly and sweet. The place is a hole in the wall but makes for really good food. The fried plantains were nice and sweet. Great pupusas! My parents are from El Salvador and I've yet to perfect making pupusas so I decided to try this place for my pupusa fix. I ordered the Plato Trio which comes with 2 pupusas (I ordered revuelta and solo queso), cassava (yucca root), and a chicken tamale. I couldn't tell if they used Salvadoran cheese in the pupusas but they were still damn good. The yucca and tamale were good too. My mom's are a little better though. I will definitely be coming back to try the bean and cheese pupusas and corn tamale. If you want your Salvadoran food fix, try this place out. read more

(These are lovely cornmeal-savory-pancake concoctions filled with cheese or beans or pork or squash blossoms!) You don't get more authentic than this place without a passport. Having grown up around this type of food, walking in and smelling all that deliciousness makes me feel like I'm having a flashback. The cooks know what they are doing and they do it very well. The pupusas are excellent. The curtido smells the same (I'm not a fan, so I can't tell you what it tastes like). They have Salvadoran cream and cheese that taste like they plucked them from my grandmother's kitchen. I've also had platanos from here and everything tastes like home. I wish I could review more food from this place, but seriously, I can't go there and have anything other than pupusas. They are so freaking good! The decor reminds me of some Salvadoran friends' homes. TV has been on every time I've been there and it's always something in Spanish, be it sports, news or novelas. It's nice, although the juke box can get a bit loud in such a small place. The parking situation kind of sucks. There's a health store and cafe on one side of the place and the cafe people take up lots of parking and there's a night club and pawnshop on the other side and the club-goers take up plenty of parking spots too. Despite the parking situation, this place still gets 5 stars because the food is amazing. Now I'm hungry. read more

Came here on the recommendation of an El Salvadorian friend, so you know it's good! My favorite was the maduros ( a sweet form of plantains)- not many people can make them as good as these. They were really delicious. The pupusas, of course, have to be tried. I recommend getting more than just cheese inside for a really filling meal. read more

We didn't come here for Mexican food--there are countless places for Mexican or Tex-Mex around here. Come here for fantastic Salvadoran food. This place is good stuff happiness. Never tried their Mex, but their Sal is off the chain. Their tamal de gallina, a bit of flavorful chicken hidden inside delicious, pillowy masa and paired with a delicate tomato salsa and vinegary cabbage salad called curtido, could be justification enough for this place to exist. And it's only a dollar f-ing fifty. For $5 you can get pastelitos, several deep fried cornmeal pies stuffed with potato, carrots and meat. Think samosas. They're a little greasy, but so is deliciousness. On the weekend they have a seafood soup that's also worth a trip. Eating from their Salvadoran menu alone you can stuff your roaring belly into a coma for about ten bucks. BTW...if you're having craft beer a couple suites down from this place, at least once you owe it to yourself to eat here first. read more
